We study in detail a very natural metric for quantum states. This new proposal has two basic ingredients: entropy and purification. The metric for two mixed states is defined as the square root of the entropy of the average of representative purifications of those states. Some basic properties are analyzed and its relation with other distances is investigated. As an illustrative application, the proposed metric is evaluated for 1-qubit mixed states.
We provide an experimentally measurable local gauge $U(1)$ invariant Fubini-Study (FS) metric for mixed states. Like the FS metric for pure states, it also captures only the quantum part of the uncertainty in the evolution Hamiltonian. We show that this satisfies the quantum Cramer-Rao bound and thus arrive at a more general and measurable bound. Upon imposing the monotonicity condition, it reduces to the square-root derivative quantum Fisher Information. We show that on the Fisher information metric space dynamical phase is zero. A relation between square root derivative and logarithmic deriv…
The quantum information and the Bures metric are equivalent to each other, except at points where the rank of the density matrix changes. Here we show that by slightly modifying the definition of the Bures metric, the quantum information will be fully equivalent to the Bures metric without exception.
The metric-adjusted skew information establishes a connection between the geometrical formulation of quantum statistics and the measures of quantum information. We study uncertainty relations in product and summation forms of metric-adjusted skew information. We present lower bounds on product and summation uncertainty inequalities based on metric-adjusted skew information via operator representation of observables. Explicit examples are provided to back our claims.
Prompted by the open questions in Gibilisco [Int. J. Software Informatics, 8(3-4): 265, 2014], in which he introduced a family of measurement-induced quantum uncertainty measures via metric adjusted skew informations, we investigate these measures' fundamental properties (including basis independence and spectral representation), and illustrate their applications to detect quantum nonlocality and entanglement.
The uncertainty principle is one of the fundamental features of quantum mechanics and plays a vital role in quantum information processing. We study uncertainty relations based on metric-adjusted skew information for finite quantum observables. Motivated by the paper [Physical Review A 104, 052414 (2021)], we establish tighter uncertainty relations in terms of different norm inequalities. Naturally, we generalize the method to uncertainty relations of metric-adjusted skew information for quantum channels and unitary operators. As both the Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information and the quantum Fi…
We study the interrelationships between the Fisher information metric recently introduced, on the basis of maximum entropy considerations, by Brody and Hughston (quant-ph/9906085) and the monotone metrics, as explicated by Petz and Sudar. This new metric turns out to be not strictly monotone in nature, and to yield (via its normalized volume element) a prior probability distribution over the Bloch ball of two-level quantum systems that is less noninformative than those obtained from any of the monotone metrics, even the minimal monotone (Bures) metric. We best approximate the additional inform…

Information metrics give lower bounds for the estimation of parameters. The Cencov-Morozova-Petz Theorem classifies the monotone quantum Fisher metrics. The optimum bound for the quantum estimation problem is offered by the metric which is obtained from the symmetric logarithmic derivative. To get a better bound, it means to go outside this family of metrics, and thus inevitably, to relax some general conditions. In the paper we defined logarithmic derivatives through a phase-space correspondence. This introduces a function which quantifies the deviation from the symmetric derivative. Using th…
In this paper, we study metrics of quantum states. These metrics are natural generalization of trace metric and Bures metric. We will prove that the metrics are joint convex and contractive under quantum operation. Our results can find important application in studying the geometry of quantum states and is useful to detect entanglement.
Affine variables, which have the virtue of preserving the positive-definite character of matrix-like objects, have been suggested as replacements for the canonical variables of standard quantization schemes, especially in the context of quantum gravity. We develop the kinematics of such variables, discussing suitable coherent states, their associated resolution of unity, polarizations, and finally the realization of the coherent-state overlap function in terms of suitable path-integral formulations.
We show that two quantities in quantum metrology that were thought to be the same, the quantum Fisher information matrix and the Bures metric, are not the same. They differ at points at which the rank of the density matrix changes. The quantum Fisher information matrix is discontinuous at these points. However, these discontinuities are removable in some sense. We show that the expression given by the Bures metric represents the continuous version of the quantum Fisher information matrix. We also derive an explicit formula for the Bures metric for both singular and non-singular density matrice…
We study a quantum information metric (or fidelity susceptibility) in conformal field theories with respect to a small perturbation by a primary operator. We argue that its gravity dual is approximately given by a volume of maximal time slice in an AdS spacetime when the perturbation is exactly marginal. We confirm our claim in several examples.
We explore perturbative corrections to quantum information geometry. In particular, we study a Bures information metric naturally associated with the correlation functions of a conformal field theory. We compute the metric of holographic four-point functions and include corrections generated by tree Witten diagrams in the bulk. In this setting, we translate properties of correlators into the language of information geometry. Cross terms in the information metric encode non-identity operators in the OPE. We find that the information metric is asymptotically AdS. Finally, we discuss an informati…
Metrics and pseudometrics are defined on the group of unitary operators in a Hilbert space. Several explicit formulas are derived. A special feature of the work is investigation of pseudometrics in unitary groups. The rich classes of pseudometrics have many interesting applications. Three such applications, distinguishibility of unitary operators, quantum coding and quantum search problems are discussed.
Local quantum uncertainty and interferometric power have been introduced by Girolami et al. in [1,2] as geometric quantifiers of quantum correlations. The aim of the present paper is to discuss their properties in a unified manner by means of the the metric adjusted skew information defined by Hansen in [3].
