Phenomenological implications of the anomalous baryon current in the Standard Model are discussed, in particular neutrino-photon interactions at finite baryon density. A pedagogical derivation of the baryon current anomaly is given.
The anomalous dimension of spin-1/2 baryon operators in QCD is derived at leading 1/Nf order using the minimal subtraction scheme. A residual ambiguity, originating from the presence of evanescent operators in dimensional regularization, is parametrized by a function of the renormalized coupling. Our result is shown to agree with previous 2 and 3 loop calculations performed in two different renormalization schemes.
We construct all SU_L(3)*SU_R(3) chirally invariant anomalous magnetic, i.e. involving a Pauli tensor and one-derivative, interactions of one chiral-[(8,1)+(1,8)] meson field with chiral-[(6,3)+(3,6)], [(3,\bar3)+(\bar3,3)], and [(8,1)+(1,8)] baryon fields and their "mirror" images. We find strong chiral selection rules: e.g. there is only one off-diagonal chirally symmetric anomalous magnetic interaction between J=1/2 fields belonging to the [(6,3)+(3,6)] and the [(3,\bar3)+(\bar3,3)] chiral multiplets. We also study the chiral selection rules for the anomalous magnetic interactions of the [(…
We study anomalous high-$p_T$ baryon production in $AA$-collisions due to formation of the two parton collinear $gq$ system in the anti-sextet color state for quark jets and $gg$ system in the decuplet/anti-decuplet color states for gluon jets. Fragmentation of these states, which are absent for $NN$-collisions, after escaping from the quark-gluon plasma leads to baryon production. Our qualitative estimates show that this mechanism can be potentially important at RHIC and LHC energies.
We determine the anomalous dimensions of baryon operators for the three color theory as function of the number of massless flavours within the conformal window to the maximum known order in perturbation theory. We show that the anomalous dimension of the baryon is controllably small, within the $δ$-expansion, for a wide range of number of flavours. We also find that this is always smaller than the anomalous dimension of the fermion mass operator. These findings challenge the partial compositeness paradigm.
In ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions the baryon-meson ratio is not fully understood in the intermediate-to-high transverse momentum region. Although quark coalescence methods combined with jet fragmentation yield results close to the experimental data, some tendencies are not reproduced and require further investigation. We propose a new channel, namely extra quark-antiquark and diquark-antidiquark pair production from coherent gluon field created in the early stage of heavy ion collisions. This process is described quantitatively by the time-dependent Schwinger-mechanism. The extra diqua…
Using the most advanced model of the hadron resonance gas we reveal, at chemical freeze-out, remarkable irregularities such as an abrupt change of the effective number of degrees of freedom and plateaus in the collision-energy dependence of the entropy per baryon, total pion number per baryon, and thermal pion number per baryon at laboratory energies 6.9-11.6 AGeV. On the basis of the generalized shock adiabat model we show that these plateaus give evidence for the thermodynamic anomalous properties of the mixed phase at its boundary to the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). A new signal for QGP format…

The upper bounds from the ATLAS and CMS experiments on the decay rate of the Higgs boson to two muons provide the strongest constraint on an imaginary part of the muon Yukawa coupling. This bound is more than an order of magnitude stronger than bounds from $\mathcal{CP}$-violating observables, specifically the electric dipole moment of the electron. It excludes a scenario $-$ which had been viable prior to these measurements $-$ that a complex muon Yukawa coupling is the dominant source of the baryon asymmetry. Even with this bound, the muon source can still contribute ${\cal O}(16\%)$ of the …
We give heavy quark-diquark symmetry predictions for doubly heavy baryons and tetraquarks in light of the recent discovery of the $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ by LHCb. For five excited doubly charm baryons that are predicted to lie below the $Λ_c D$ threshold, we give predictions for their electromagnetic and strong decays using a previously developed chiral Lagrangian with heavy quark-diquark symmetry. Based on the mass of the $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$, the existence of a doubly heavy bottom $I=0$ tetraquark that is stable to the strong and electromagnetic decays has been predicted. If the mass of this state is below 1…
We present the first analytic scheme-independent series calculations of anomalous dimensions of several types of baryon operators at an infrared fixed point (IRFP) in an asymptotically free SU(3) gauge theory with $N_f$ fermions. Separately, for an asymptotically free gauge theory with a gauge group $G$ and $N_f$ fermions in a representation $R$ of $G$, we consider physical quantities at an IRFP, including the anomalous dimension of gauge-invariant fermion bilinears and the derivative of the beta function. These quantities have been calculated in series expansions whose coefficients have been …
We have witnessed a persistent puzzling anomaly in the muon magnetic moment that cannot be accounted for in the Standard Model even considering the large hadronic uncertainties. A new measurement is forthcoming, and it might give rise to a $5σ$ claim for physics beyond the Standard Model. Motivated by it, we explore the implications of this new result to five models based on the $SU(3)_C \times SU(3)_L \times U(1)_N$ gauge symmetry and put our conclusions into perspective with LHC bounds. We show that previous conclusions found in the context of such models change if there are more than one he…
The near-side depression in two-proton or two-antiproton azimuthal correlations in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$7 TeV has been observed experimentally and then qualitatively reproduced in our earlier studies with a multi-phase transport model. In this study, we further investigate the origin of the depression feature in two-baryon correlations in small collision systems. We find that the initial parton-level spatial correlation, a finite expansion in the parton stage, and quark coalescence are important ingredients leading to the near-side depression. In particular, we find that a finite expa…
We calculate the one-loop anomalous dimension matrix for the dimension-six baryon number violating operators of the Standard Model effective field theory, including right-handed neutrino fields. We discuss the flavor structure of the renormalization group evolution in the contexts of minimal flavor violation and unification.
The phenomenological approach in the framework of Quark-Gluon String Model (QGSM) has been applied to the description of transverse momentum spectra for the baryon production at colliders. The analysis of data on hyperon transverse momentum distributions,dN/dp_t, demonstrates a difference in the dynamics of multiparticle production in proton-proton vs. antiproton-proton collisions in the region of low p_t . The most important contribution in antip-p reaction goes from fragmentation of antidiquark-diquark side of pomeron diagram. The complete study of the energy dependence of average transverse…
We present an extended version of the dynamical model for a multi-quark droplet evolution described in our proceeding paper. The model includes collective expansion of the droplet, effects of the vacuum pressure and surface tension, and now a non-zero baryon number. The hadron emission from the droplet is described following Weisskopf's statistical model. We consider evolutions of droplets with different initial temperatures and net baryon number. It is found that the introduction of a non-zero net baryon number does not change the lifetime of the droplets significantly. Only when we consider …
We consider a non-Abelian gauge theory with $N_f$ fermions and discuss the possible existence of a non-trivial UV fixed point at large $N_f$. Specifically, we study the anomalous dimension of the (rescaled) glueball operator $\text{Tr}\ F^2$ to first order in $1/N_f$ by relating it to the derivative of the beta function at the fixed point. At the fixed point the anomalous dimension violates its unitarity bound and so the (rescaled) glueball operator is either decoupled or the fixed point does not exist. We also study the anomalous dimensions of the two spin-$1/2$ baryon operators to first orde…
The flavor changing decays of heavy bottom quarks to the corresponding lighter quarks ($u$, $c$ and $s$) in various $B$-meson decays via charged current and neutral current semileptonic transitions have emerged as promising candidates to explore the physics beyond the standard model. Experimentally the lepton flavor universality violation in $b \to (c,u)\,l\,ν$ and $b \to s\,l^+ l^-$ transitions have been reported to a higher precision. The measurements of the lepton flavor violating ratios such as $R_{D^{(*)}}$, $R_{J/Ψ}$ and $R_{K^{(*)}}$ are observed to deviate from the standard model expec…
In an unconventional presentation of the data on the transverse momentum spectra of baryons produced in heavy-ion collisions, regularities are found that make possible the discovery of a universal formula valid for $p, Λ, Ξ$ and $Ω$. The formula describes the baryon distributions over wide ranges of $p_T (0.5 \ ^<_\sim\ p_T \ ^<_\sim\ 5$ GeV/c) for $0.06 \ ^<_\sim\ \sqrt {s_{NN}} \ ^<_\sim\ 3$ TeV, except for very peripheral collisions. Some aspects of their empirical properties are derived in the recombination model, resulting in a revelation of some features of the light and strange quark di…

We show that both the baryon asymmetry of the universe and dark matter (DM) can be accounted for by the dynamics of a single axion-like field. In this scenario, the observed baryon asymmetry is produced through spontaneous baryogenesis---driven by the early evolution of the axion---while its late-time coherent oscillations explain the observed DM abundance. Typically, spontaneous baryogenesis via axions is only successful in regions of parameter space where the axion is relatively heavy, rendering it highly unstable and unfit as a dark matter candidate. However, we show that a field-dependent …
