A 3-bracket variant of the Virasoro-Witt algebra is constructed through the use of su(1,1) enveloping algebra techniques. The Leibniz rules for 3-brackets acting on other 3-brackets in the algebra are discussed and verified in various situations.
n-ary algebras have played important roles in mathematics and mathematical physics. The purpose of this paper is to construct a deformation of Virasoro-Witt n-algebra based on an oscillator realization with two independent parameters (p, q) and investigate its n-Lie subalgebra.
A proof of the vanishing of the third cohomology group of the Witt algebra with values in the adjoint module is given. Moreover, we provide a sketch of the proof of the one-dimensionality of the third cohomology group of the Virasoro algebra with values in the adjoint module. The proofs given in the present article are completely algebraic and independent of any underlying topology. They are a generalization of the ones provided by Schlichenmaier, who proved the vanishing of the second cohomology group of the Witt and the Virasoro algebra by using purely algebraic methods. In the case of the t…
We consider several ternary algebras relevant to physics. We compare and contrast the quantal versions of the algebras, as realized through associative products of operators, with their classical counterparts, as realized through classical Nambu brackets. In some cases involving infinite algebras, we show the classical limit may be obtained by a contraction of the quantal algebra, and then explicitly realized through classical brackets. We illustrate this classical-contraction method by the Virasoro-Witt example.
It is shown that the ternary Virasoro-Witt algebra of Curtright, Fairlie and Zachos can be constructed by applying the Nambu commutator to the vect(1) realization on scalar densities. This construction is generalized to vect(d), but the corresponding 3-algebra fails to close.
The main aim of this article is to prove the one-dimensionality of the third algebraic cohomology of the Virasoro algebra with values in the adjoint module. We announced this result in a previous publication with only a sketch of the proof. The detailed proof is provided in the present article. We also show that the third algebraic cohomology of the Witt and the Virasoro algebra with values in the trivial module is one-dimensional. We consider purely algebraic cohomology, i.e. our results are independent of any topology chosen. The vanishing of the third algebraic cohomology of the Witt algebr…
In this paper we analyze Whittaker modules for two families of Wittaker pairs related to the subalgebras of the Virasoro algebra generated by L_r,..., L_{2r} and L_1,L_n. The structure theorems for the corresponding universal Whittaker modules are proved and some of their consequences are derived. All the Gaiotto {arXiv:0908.0307} and the Bonelli-Maruyoshi-Tanzini {arXiv:1112.1691} states in an arbitrary Virasoro algebra Verma module are explicitly constructed.
In this paper we establish relations between three enumerative geometry tau-functions, namely the Kontsevich-Witten, Hurwitz and Hodge tau-functions. The relations allow us to describe the tau-functions in terms of matrix integrals, Virasoro constraints and Kac-Schwarz operators. All constructed operators belong to the algebra (or group) of symmetries of the KP hierarchy.
The $q$-deformation of the infinite-dimensional $n$-algebra is investigated. Based on the structure of the $q$-deformed Virasoro-Witt algebra, we derive a nontrivial $q$-deformed Virasoro-Witt $n$-algebra which is nothing but a sh-$n$-Lie algebra. Furthermore in terms of the pseud-differential operators on the quantum plane, we construct the (co)sine $n$-algebra and the $q$-deformed $SDiff(T^2)$ $n$-algebra. We prove that they are the sh-$n$-Lie algebras for the case of even $n$. An explicit physical realization of the (co)sine $n$-algebra is given.
The affine current algebra for Lie superalgebras is examined. The bilinear invariant forms of the Lie superalgebra can be either degenerate or non-degenerate. We give the conditions for a Virasoro construction, in which the currents are primary fields of weight one, to exist. In certain cases, the Virasoro central charge is an integer equal to the super dimension of the group supermanifold. A Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten action based on these Lie superalgebras is also found.
We will describe algebro-geometric solutions of the KdV hierarchy whose $τ$-functions in addition satisfy a generalization of the Virasoro constraints (and, in particular, a generalization of the string equation). We show that these solutions are closely related to embeddings of the positive half of the Virasoro algebra into the Lie algebra of differential operators on the circle. Our results are tested against the case of Witten-Kontsevich $τ$-function. As by-products, we exhibit certain links of our methods with double covers of the projective line equipped with a line bundle and with ${\rm …
We construct a representation of the zero central charge Virasoro algebra using string fields in Witten's open bosonic string field theory. This construction is used to explore extensions of the KBc algebra and find novel algebraic solutions of open string field theory.
The aim of this work is to further study the fractional bosonic string theory. In particular, we wrote the energy-momentum tensor in the fractional conformal gauge and study their symmetries. We introduced the Virasoro operators of all orders. In fact, we found the same $L_0 (\widetilde{L}_0)$ operator originally defined in the work of fractional bosonic string up to a shift transformation. Also, we compute the algebra of our Fractional Virasoro Operators, finding that the satifies the $Witt$ algebra. Lastly, we showed that in the boundary of our theory we recover the lost conservation law ass…
We construct an universal enveloping algebra associated to the ternary extension of Lie (super)algebras called Lie algebra of order three. A Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorem is proven is this context. It this then shown that this universal enveloping algebra can be endowed with a structure of Hopf algebra. The study of the dual of the universal enveloping algebra enables to define the parameters of the transformation of a Lie algebra of order three. It turns out that these variables are the variables which generate the three-exterior algebra.
A new set of realizations of the Virasoro algebra on a bosonic Fock space are found by explicitly computing the Virasoro representations associated with coadjoint orbits of the form (Diff S1) / S1. Some progress is made in understanding the unitary structure of these representations. The characters of these representations are exactly the bosonic partition functions calculated previously by Witten using perturbative and fixed-point methods. The representations corresponding to the discrete series of unitary Virasoro representations with c <= 1 are found to be reducible in this formulation, con…
We investigate the quantum Calogero-Moser model and reveal its hidden symmetries, i.e., the $W_{1+\infty}$ and Virasoro-Witt 3-algebras. In the large $N$ limit, we note that these two infinite dimensional 3-algebras reduce to the $w_{\infty}$ and special Virasoro-Witt 3-algebras which satisfy the fundamental identity condition, respectively.
We show how the recently again discussed $N$-point Witt, Virasoro, and affine Lie algebras are genus zero examples of the multi-point versions of Krichever--Novikov type algebras as introduced and studied by Schlichenmaier. Using this more general point of view, useful structural insights and an easier access to calculations can be obtained. The concept of almost-grading will yield information about triangular decompositions which are of importance in the theory of representations. As examples the algebra of functions, vector fields, differential operators, current algebras, affine Lie algebra…
We show that it is possible to construct a Virasoro algebra as a central extension of the fractional Witt algebra generated by non-local operators of the form, $L_n^a\equiv\left(\frac{\partial f}{\partial z}\right)^a$ where $a\in {\mathbb R}$. The Virasoro algebra is explicitly of the form, \beq [L^a_m,L_n^a]=A_{m,n}L^a_{m+n}+δ_{m,n}h(n)cZ^a \eeq where $c$ is the central charge (not necessarily a constant), $Z^a$ is in the center of the algebra and $h(n)$ obeys a recursion relation related to the coefficients $A_{m,n}$. In fact, we show that all central extensions which respect the special str…
We consider exceptional vertex operator algebras for which particular Casimir vectors constructed from the primary vectors of lowest conformal weight are Virasoro descendants of the vacuum. We discuss constraints on these theories that follow from an analysis of appropriate genus zero and genus one two point correlation functions. We find explicit differential equations for the partition function in the cases where the lowest weight primary vectors form a Lie algebra or a Griess algebra. Examples include the Wess-Zumino-Witten model for Deligne's exceptional Lie algebras and the Moonshine Modu…
The superselection structure of $\son$ WZW models is investigated from the point of view of algebraic quantum field theory. At level $1$ it turns out that the observable algebras of the WZW theory can be constructed in terms of even CAR algebras. This fact allows to give a formulation of these models close to the DHR framework. Localized endomorphisms are constructed explicitly in terms of Bogoliubov transformations, and the WZW fusion rules are proven using the DHR sector product. At level $2$ it is shown that most of the sectors are realized in $\HNSh=\HNS\otimes\HNS$ where $\HNS$ is the Nev…
Various holographic set-ups in string theory suggest the existence of non-local, UV complete two-dimensional QFTs that possess Virasoro symmetry, in spite of their non-locality. We argue that $J\bar T$-deformed CFTs are the first concrete realisation of such "non-local CFTs", through a detailed analysis of their classical and quantum symmetry algebra. Classically, the symmetries consist of an infinite set of left-moving conformal and affine $U(1)$ transformations that generate a Witt-Kac-Moody algebra, as well as a set of non-local, field-dependent generalizations of right-moving conformal and…
We investigate the supereigenvalue model in the Ramond sector. We prove that its partition function can be obtained by acting on elementary functions with exponents of the given operators. The Virasoro constraints for this supereigenvalue model are presented. The remarkable property of these bosonic constraint operators is that they obey the Witt algebra and null 3-algebra. The compact expression of correlators can be derived from these Virasoro constraints.
A dynamical symmetry, as well as special diffeomorphism algebras generalizing the Witt-Virasoro algebra, related to Poincaré-invariance and crucial with regard to quantisation, questions of integrability, and M(atrix) theory, are found to exist in the theory of relativistic extended objects of any dimension.
We show that the fermionic matrix model can be realized by $W$-representation. We construct the Virasoro constraints with higher algebraic structures, where the constraint operators obey the Witt algebra and null 3-algebra. The remarkable feature is that the character expansion of the partition function can be easily derived from such Virasoro constraints. It is a $τ$-function of the KP hierarchy. We construct the fermionic Aristotelian tensor model and give its $W$-representation. Moreover, we analyze the fermionic red tensor model and present the $W$-representation and character expansion of…
The asymptotics of characters $χ_{kλ}(\exp(h/k))$ of irreducible representations of a compact Lie group $G$ for large values of the scaling factor $k$ are given by Duistermaat-Heckman (DH) integrals over coadjoint orbits of $G$. This phenomenon generalises to coadjoint orbits of central extensions of loop groups $\widehat{LG}$ and of diffeomorphisms of the circle $\widehat{\rm Diff}(S^1)$. We show that the asymptotics of characters of integrable modules of affine Kac-Moody algebras and of the Virasoro algebra factorize into a divergent contribution of the standard form and a convergent contrib…
We consider the conformal $A_{n}$ Toda theory in AdS$_{2}$. Due to the bulk full Virasoro symmetry, this system provides an instance of a non-gravitational $\text{AdS}_{2}$/$\text{CFT}_{1}$ correspondence where the 1d boundary theory enjoys enhanced "$\frac{1}{2}$-Virasoro" symmetry. General boundary correlators are expected to be captured by the restriction of chiral correlators in a suitable $\mathcal WA_{n}$ Virasoro extension. At next-to-leading order in weak coupling expansion they have been conjectured to match the subleading terms in the large central charge expansion of the dual $\math…
