Using non chiral supersymmetry in 6D space time, we compute the explicit expression of the metric the scalar manifold $SO(1,1) \times \frac{SO(4,20) }{SO(4) \times SO(20)}$ of the 10D type IIA superstring on generic K3. We consider as well the scalar field self-couplings in the general case where the non chiral 6D supergravity multiplet is coupled to generic n vector supermultiplets with moduli space $SO(1,1) \times \frac{SO(4,n)}{SO(4) \times SO(n)}$. We also work out a dictionary giving a correspondence between hyperKahler geometry and the Kahler geometry of the Coulomb branch of 10D type IIA on Calabi-Yau threefolds. Others features are also discussed.
Extending prior investigations, we study three of the the four distinct minimal (4,0) scalar multiplets coupled to (4,0) supergravity. It is found that the scalar multiplets manifest their differences at the component level by possessing totally different couplings to the supergravity fields. Only the SM-I multiplet possesses a conformal coupling. For the remaining multiplets, terms linear in the world sheet curvature and/or SU(2) gauge field strengths are required to appear in the action by local supersymmetry.
The dualised formulation of the symmetric space sigma model is peformed for a general scalar coset G/K where G is a maximally non-compact group and K is it's maximal compact subgroup.By using the twisted self-duality condition the general form of the first-order equations are obtained. The results are applied to the example of SL(2,R)/SO(2) scalar manifold of the IIB supergravity.
We build the minimal supergravity model where the nilpotent chiral goldstino superfield is coupled to a chiral matter superfield, realising a different non-linear representation through a mixed nilpotency constraint. The model describes the spontaneous breaking of local supersymmetry in the presence of a generically massive Majorana fermion, but in the absence of elementary scalars. The sign and the size of the cosmological constant, the spectrum and the four-fermion interactions are controlled by suitable parameters.
We revisit and complete the study of curved BPS-domain walls in matter-coupled 5D, N=2 supergravity and carefully analyse the relation to gravitational theories known as "fake supergravities". We first show that \emph{curved} BPS-domain walls require the presence of non-trivial hypermultiplet scalars, whereas walls that are solely supported by vector multiplet scalars are necessarily \emph{flat}, due to the constraints from very special geometry. We then recover fake supergravity as the effective description of true supergravity where one restricts the attention to the flowing scalar field of …
The general non-split scalar coset of supergravity theories is discussed. The symmetric space sigma model is studied in two equivalent formulations and for different coset parametrizations. The dualisation and the local first order formulation is performed for the non-split scalar coset G/K when the rigid symmetry group G is a real form of a non-compact semisimple Lie group (not necessarily split) and the local symmetry group K is G's maximal compact subgroup.A comparison with the scalar cosets arising in the T^{10-D}-compactification of the heterotic string theory in ten dimensions is also ment…
d3 and d5 maximally SUSY gauged supergravity is considered in the parametrization (flow) of full scalar coset where the kinetic term for scalars takes the standard field theory form and the bulk potential is an arbitrary one subject to consistent parametrization. From such SG duals we calculate d2 and d4 holographic conformal anomaly which depends on bulk scalars potential. AdS/CFT correspondence suggests that such SG side conformal anomaly should be identified with (non-perturbative) QFT conformal anomaly (taking account of radiative corrections) for the theory living on the boundary of AdS s…
Starting from the 48+48 component multiplet of supercurrents for a rigid N=2 tensor multiplet in four spacetime dimensions, we obtain the transformation of the linearized supergravity multiplet which couples to this supercurrent multiplet. At the linearized level, this 48+48 component supergravity multiplet decouples into the 24+24 component linearized standard Weyl multiplet and a 24+24 component irreducible matter multiplet containing a real scalar field. By a consistent application of the supersymmetry algebra with field dependent structure constants appropriate to N=2 conformal supergravit…
We derive the scalar potential of the effective theory of type IIB orientifold with 3-form fluxes turned on in presence of non abelian brane coordinates. N=4 supergravity predicts a positive semidefinite potential with vanishing cosmological constant in the vacuum of commuting coordinates, with a classical moduli space given by three radial moduli and three RR scalars which complete three copies of the coset (U(1,1+n)/U(1)\otimes U(1+n)), together with 6n D3-branes coordinates, n being the rank of the gauge group G. Implications for the super Higgs mechanism are also discussed.
The double field theory action in the flux formulation is dimensionally reduced on a Calabi-Yau three-fold equipped with non-vanishing type IIB geometric and non-geometric fluxes. First, we rewrite the metric-dependent reduced DFT action in terms of quantities that can be evaluated without explicitly knowing the metric on the Calabi-Yau manifold. Second, using properties of special geometry we obtain the scalar potential of N=2 gauged supergravity. After an orientifold projection, this potential is consistent with the scalar potential arising from the flux-induced superpotential, plus an addit…
We discuss flat compactifications of supergravities in diverse dimensions in the presence of branes. The compactification is induced by the scalar fields of supergravity and it is such that there is no relic cosmological constant on the brane, rendering this way the latter flat. We discuss in particular the D=4, $N=2,4$ and D=8, N=1 supergravities with $n=1,2,3$ vector multiplets where the scalar manifolds are Grassmannian cosets of the form $SO(2,n)/SO(2)\times SO(n)$. By introducing branes at certain points in the transverse space, finite energy solutions to the field equations are construct…
We review and investigate different aspects of scalar fields in supergravity theories both when they parametrize symmetric spaces and when they parametrize spaces of special holonomy which are not necessarily symmetric (Kahler and Quaternionic-Kahler spaces): their role in the definition of derivatives of the fermions covariant under the R-symmetry group and (in gauged supergravities) under some gauge group, their dualization into (d-2)-forms, their role in the supersymmetry transformation rules (via fermion shifts, for instance) etc. We find a general definition of momentum map that applies t…
We investigate the scalar potential of gauged N=4 supergravity with matter. The extremum in the SU(1,1)/U(1) scalars is obtained for an arbitrary number of matter multiplets. The constraints on the matter scalars are solved in terms of an explicit parametrisation of an SO(6,6+n) element. For the case of six matter multiplets we discuss both compact and noncompact gauge groups. In an example involving noncompact groups and four scalars we find a potential with an absolute minimum and a positive cosmological constant.
Using AdS/CFT correspondence we found the conformal anomaly from d3 and d5 gauged supergravity with single scalar (dilaton) and the arbitrary scalar potential on AdS-like scalar-gravitational background. Such dilatonic gravity action describes the special RG flows in extended gauged SG when scalars lie in one-dimensional submanifold of complete scalars space. This dilaton-dependent conformal anomaly corresponds to dual non-conformal (gauge) QFT (which is classically conformally invariant) with account of radiative corrections. Equations of motion in d5 gauged supergravity put some restrictions…
In this paper we first give a simple parametrization of the scalar coset manifold of the only known anomaly free chiral gauged supergravity in six dimensions in the absence of linear multiplets, namely gauged minimal supergravity coupled to a tensor multiplet, E_6 x E_7 x U(1)_R Yang-Mills multiplets and suitable number of hypermultiplets. We then construct the potential for the scalars and show that it has a unique minimum at the origin. We also construct a new BPS dyonic string solution in which U(1)_R x U(1) gauge fields, in addition to the metric, dilaton and the 2-form potential, assume n…
We study a class of constant scalar invariant (CSI) spacetimes, which belong to the higher-dimensional Kundt class, that are solutions of supergravity. We review the known CSI supergravity solutions in this class and we explicitly present a number of new exact CSI supergravity solutions, some of which are Einstein.
We discuss the potential and mass-matrix of gauged N=4 matter coupled supergravity for the case of six matter multiplets, extending previous work by considering the dependence on all scalars. We consider all semi-simple gauge groups and analyse the potential and its first and second derivatives in the origin of the scalar manifold. Although we find in a number of cases an extremum with a positive cosmological constant, these are not stable under fluctuations of all scalar fields.
The list of six previously known nontrivial stationary points in the scalar potential of N=8, D=4 supergravity with gauge group SO(8) is extended by fourteen new entries, whose properties have been obtained numerically using the sensitivity backpropagation technique. Eight of the new solutions break the gauge group completely, while three have a residual symmetry of U(1). Three further ones break the gauge group to U(1)xU(1), and while the approximate numerical data are somewhat inconclusive, there is evidence that one of these may have a residual N=1 supersymmetry, hence correspond to a stabl…
We construct exact cosmological scaling solutions in N=8 gauged supergravity. We restrict to solutions for which the scalar fields trace out geodesic curves on the scalar manifold. Under these restrictions it is shown that the axionic scalars are necessarily constant. The potential is then a sum of exponentials and has a very specific form that allows for scaling solutions. The scaling solutions describe eternal accelerating and decelerating power-law universes, which are all unstable. An uplift of the solutions to 11-dimensional supergravity is carried out and the resulting timedependent geom…
We study compactification of five dimensional ungauged N=2 supergravity coupled to vector- and hypermultiplets on orbifold $S^1/Z_2$. In the model the vector multiplets scalar manifold is arbitrary while the hypermultiplet scalars span a generalized self dual Einstein manifold constructed by Calderbank and Pedersen. The bosonic and the fermionic sector of the low energy effective N=1 supergravity in four dimensions are derived.
We propose a novel class of $\mathcal{N}=1$ supergravity (called ``Relaxed supergravity'') that can enlarge the space of scalar potentials, relaxing the strongly-constrained form of the prototype supergravity potential. It has very long been considered that in $\mathcal{N}=1$ supergravity a negative term of scalar potential can be given only by the gravitino-mass term (i.e. $-3e^{G}$) from the F-term potential, while such negative term is absent in global supersymmetry (SUSY). In this letter, however, we firstly discover a new negative-definite contribution to the scalar potential in $\mathcal…
The general form of N=2 supergravity coupled to an arbitrary number of vector multiplets and hypermultiplets, with a generic gauging of the scalar manifold isometries is given. This extends the results already available in the literature in that we use a coordinate independent and manifestly symplectic covariant formalism which allows to cover theories difficult to formulate within superspace or tensor calculus approach. We provide the complete lagrangian and supersymmetry variations with all fermionic terms, and the form of the scalar potential for arbitrary quaternionic manifolds and special…
We consider ${\cal N}=4$ conformal supergravity with an arbitrary holomorphic function of the complex scalar $S$ which parametrizes the $SU(1,1)/U(1)$ coset. Assuming non-vanishings vevs for $S$ and the scalars in a symmetric matrix $E_{ij}$ of the $\overline{\bf 10}$ of $SU(4)$ R-symmetry group, we determine the vacuum structure of the theory. We find that the possible vacua are classified by the number of zero eigenvalues of the scalar matrix and the spacetime is either Minkowski, de Sitter or anti-de Sitter. We determine the spectrum of the scalar fluctuations and we find that it contains t…
We show that the higher-dimensional vanishing scalar invariant (VSI) spacetimes with fluxes and dilaton are solutions of type IIB supergravity, and we argue that they are exact solutions in string theory. We also discuss the supersymmetry properties of VSI spacetimes.
In this work we construct the vacuum configuration of supergravity interacting with homogeneous complex scalar matter fields. The corresponding configuration is of the FRW model invariant under the $n=2$ local conformal time supersymmetry, which is a subgroup of the four dimensional space-time supersymmetry. We show, that the potential of the scalar matter fields is a function of the Kähler potential and of the arbitrary parameter $α$. This parameter enumerates the vacuum states. The scalar matter potential induces the spontaneous breaking of supersymmetry in supergravity. On the quantum level…
We present a consistent truncation of IIB supergravity on manifolds admitting a Sasaki-Einstein structure, which keeps the metric and five real scalar fields. This theory can be further truncated to a constrained one-parameter family that depends on only the metric and one scalar, as well as to a theory with a metric and three scalars. The reduced theory admits supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric AdS_5 and AdS_4 x R solutions. We analyze the spectrum around the AdS critical points and identify the dual operators.
We readdress the question of whether any universal upper bound exists on the square mass m^2 of the lightest scalar around a supersymmetry breaking vacuum in generic N=2 gauged supergravity theories for a given gravitino mass m_3/2 and cosmological constant V. We review the known bounds which apply to theories with restricted matter content from a new perspective. We then extend these results to theories with both hyper and vector multiplets and a gauging involving only one generator, for which we show that such a bound exists for both V>0 and V<0. We finally argue that there is no bound for t…
Supergravity, a locally supersymmetric gauge theory, may provide to describe new physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM). In this sense, cosmological applications of supergravity can be the arena for probing outcomes of supergravity. It is also attractive that supergravity can appear as a low-energy effective theory of superstrings, a possible candidate of quantum gravity. Nevertheless, it is not trivial to build inflationary models in supergravity due to difficulties arising mainly from the extremely constrained form of supergravity scalar potentials, complicated structure of interaction term…
All quartic couplings of scalar fields $s^I$ that are dual to extended chiral primary operators in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM$_4$ are derived by using the covariant equations of motion for type IIB supergravity on $AdS_5\times S^5$. It is shown that despite some expectations if one keeps the structure of the cubic terms untouched, the quartic action obtained contains terms with two and four derivatives. It is shown that the quartic action vanishes on shell in the extremal case, e.g. k_1=k_2+k_3+k_4. Consistency of the truncation of the quartic couplings to the massless multiplet of the ${\cal N}=8$, d=5…
It has recently been shown that the equation of motion of a massless scalar field in the background of some specific p branes can be reduced to a modified Mathieu equation. In the following the absorption rate of the scalar by a D3 brane in ten dimensions is calculated in terms of modified Mathieu functions of the first kind, using standard Mathieu coefficients. The relation of the latter to Dougall coefficients (used by others) is investigated. The S-matrix obtained in terms of modified Mathieu functions of the first kind is easily evaluated if known rapidly convergent low energy expansions o…
We consider an inflection point inflationary model in supergravity with a single chiral superfield and show that the predicted values of the scalar spectral index and tensor-to-scalar ratio are consistent with the Planck 2015 results. In this model supersymmetry is strongly broken after inflation, which results in a non-SUSY de-Sitter vacuum responsible for the recent accelerated expansion of the Universe.
Repulsive singularities (repulsons) in extended supergravity theories are investigated. These repulsive singularities are related to attractive singularities (black holes) in moduli space of extended supergravity vacua. In order to study these repulsive singularities a scalar test-particle in the background of a repulson is investigated. It is shown, using a partial wave expansion, that the wave function of the scalar particle vanishes at the curvature singularity at the origin. In addition the connection to higher dimensional p-brane solutions including anti-branes is discussed.
We derive a scalar potential in the recently proposed N=1 supersymmetric generalization of f(R) gravity in four space-time dimensions. Any such higher-derivative supergravity is classically equivalent to the standard N=1 supergravity coupled to a chiral (matter) superfield, via a Legendre-Weyl transform in superspace. The Kaehler potential, the superpotential and the scalar potential of that theory are all governed by a single holomorphic function. We also find the conditions for the vanishing cosmological constant and spontaneous supersymmetry breaking, without fine-tuning, which define a no-…
We obtain Yang-Mills $SU(2)\times G$ gauged supergravity in three dimensions from $SU(2)$ group manifold reduction of (1,0) six dimensional supergravity coupled to an anti-symmetric tensor multiplet and gauge vector multiplets in the adjoint of $G$. The reduced theory is consistently truncated to $N=4$ 3D supergravity coupled to $4(1+\textrm{dim}\, G)$ bosonic and $4(1+\textrm{dim}\, G)$ fermionic propagating degrees of freedom. This is in contrast to the reduction in which there are also massive vector fields. The scalar manifold is $\mathbf{R}\times \frac{SO(3,\, \textrm{dim}\, G)}{SO(3)\tim…
We determine the conditions for maximally supersymmetric AdS_5 vacua of five-dimensional gauged N=2 supergravity coupled to vector-, tensor- and hypermultiplets charged under an arbitrary gauge group. In particular, we show that the unbroken gauge group of the AdS_5 vacua has to contain an U(1)_R-factor. Moreover we prove that the scalar deformations which preserve all supercharges form a Kahler submanifold of the ambient quaternionic Kahler manifold spanned by the scalars in the hypermultiplets.
This is an account of lectures that were given at TASI 2005, the Shanghai Summer School in M-theory 2005 and the Perimeter Institute. I review 1) the derivation of the potential for chiral scalar fields in ${\cal N}$=1 supergravity 2) the relation between F and D terms for chiral scalars, Weyl anomalies and the generation of non-perturbative terms in the superpotential and 3) the derivation of effective potentials for light moduli in type IIB string theory.
We consider the most general SU(3) singlet space of gauged N=8 supergravity in four-dimensions. The SU(3)-invariant six scalar fields in the theory can be viewed in terms of six real four-forms. By exponentiating these four-forms, we eventually obtain the new scalar potential. For the two extreme limits, we reproduce the previous results found by Warner in 1983. In particular, for the N=1 G_2 critical point, we find the constraint surface parametrized by three scalar fields on which the cosmological constant has the same value. We obtain the BPS domain-wall solutions for restricted scalar subm…
We study the general requirement for supersymmetric AdS$_6$ solutions in type IIB supergravity. We employ the Killing spinor technique and study the differential and algebraic relations among various Killing spinor bilinears to find the canonical form of the solutions. Our result agrees precisely with the work of Apruzzi et. al. \cite{Apruzzi:2014qva} which used the pure spinor technique. We also obtained the four-dimensional theory through the dimensional reduction of type IIB supergravity on AdS$_6$. This effective action is essentially a nonlinear sigma model with five scalar fields paramet…
We investigate the effect of (Curvature)^2-terms on N=1 and N=2 supergravity in three dimensions. We use the off-shell component fields (e_μ^m, ψ_μ, S) for N=1 and (e_μ^m, ψ_μ, ψ_μ^*, A_μ, B, B^*) for N=2 supergravity. The S, A_μand B are respectively a real scalar, a real vector and a complex scalar auxiliary fields. Both for N=1 and N=2, only two invariant actions for (Curvature)^2-terms exist, while only the actions with (Scalar Curvature)^2 are free of negative energy ghosts. Interestingly, the originally non-physical graviton and gravitino fields start propagating, together with the scala…
We find a new class of cosmic string solutions with non-vanishing magnetic flux of $\mathcal{N}=1$, D=4 supergravity with a cosmological constant and coupled to any number of Maxwell and scalar multiplets. We show that these magnetic cosmic string solutions preserve 1/2 of supersymmetry. We give an explicit example of such a solution for which the complex scalars are constant and the spacetime is smooth with topology $R^{1,1}\times S^2$. Two more examples are explored for which a complex scalar field takes values in $\mathbb{C} P^1$ and in $SL(2,\mathbb{R})/U(1)$.
We construct a new $N=4$ non-semisimple gauged supergravity in three dimensions with $E_{6(2)}/SU(6)\times SU(2)$ scalar manifold and $SO(4)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^6$ gauge group. Depending on the values of the gauge coupling constants, the theory admits both the maximally supersymmetric $AdS_3$ vacuum preserving $SO(4)$ gauge symmetry and half-supersymmetric domain walls with unbroken $SO(4)$ symmetry. We give all scalar masses at the supersymmetric $AdS_3$ critical point corresponding to an $N=(4,0)$ superconformal field theory (SCFT) in two dimensions. The scalar potential also admits two flat d…
The recent comprehensive numerical study of critical points of the scalar potential of four-dimensional N=8, SO(8) gauged supergravity using Machine Learning software has led to a discovery of a new N=1 vacuum with a triality-invariant SO(3) symmetry. Guided by the numerical data for that point, we obtain a consistent SO(3)xZ2-invariant truncation of the N=8 theory to an N=1 supergravity with three chiral multiplets. Critical points of the truncated scalar potential include both the N=1 point as well as two new non-supersymmetric and perturbatively unstable points not found by previous searche…
Several recent papers have made considerable progress in proving the existence of remarkable consistent Kaluza-Klein sphere reductions of D=10 and D=11 supergravities, to give gauged supergravities in lower dimensions. A proof of the consistency of the full gauged SO(8) reduction on S^7 from D=11 was given many years ago, but from a practical viewpoint a reduction to a smaller subset of the fields can be more manageable, for the purposes of lifting lower-dimensional solutions back to the higher dimension. The major complexity of the spherical reduction Ansatze comes from the spin-0 fields, and…
Some admissible gauge groups of N=4 Chern-Simons gauged supergravity in three dimensions with exceptional scalar manifolds $G_{2(2)}/SO(4)$, $F_{4(4)}/USp(6)\times SU(2)$, $E_{6(2)}/SU(6)\times SU(2)$, $E_{7(-5)}/SO(12)\times SU(2)$ and $E_{8(-24)}/E_7\times SU(2)$ are identified. In particular, a complete list of all possible gauge groups is given for the theory with $G_{2(2)}/SO(4)$ coset space. We also study scalar potentials for all of these gauge groups and find some critical points. In the case of $F_{4(4)}/USp(6)\times SU(2)$ target space, we give some semisimple gauge groups which are …
Bianchi attractors are homogeneous but anisotropic extremal black brane horizons. We study the $AdS_3 \times \mathbb{H}^2$ solution which is a special case of Bianchi type III in a $U(1)_R$ gauged supergravity. For a wide range of values for certain free parameters in gauged supergravity, there exist a large class of solutions that satisfy conditions for the attractor mechanism to hold. We investigate the response of the solution against linearized fluctuations of the scalar field. The sufficient conditions for the attractor mechanism ensure that there exist a solution for the scalar fluctuati…
The scalar potentials of the non-semi-simple CSO(p,8-p)(p=7,6,5) gaugings of N=8 supergravity are studied for critical points. The CSO(7,1) gauging has no G_2-invariant critical points, the CSO(6,2) gauging has three new SU(3)-invariant AdS critical points and the CSO(5,3) gauging has no SO(5)-invariant critical points. The scalar potential of CSO(6,2) gauging in four dimensions we discovered provides the SU(3) invariant scalar potential of five dimensional SO(6) gauged supergravity. The nontrivial effective scalar potential can be written in terms of the superpotential which can be read off f…
N=1, D=4 non linear sigma models, parametrized by chiral superfields, usually describe Kaehlerian geometries, provided that Einstein frame supergravity is used. The sigma model metric is no longer Kaehler when local supersymmetry becomes nonlinearly realized through the nilpotency of the supergravity auxiliary fields. In some cases the nonlinear realization eliminates one scalar propagating degree of freedom. This happens when the sigma model conformal-frame metric has co-rank 2. In the geometry of the inflaton, this effect eliminates its scalar superpartner. We show that the sigma model metri…
We describe the couplings of six-dimensional supergravity, which contain a self-dual tensor multiplet, to $n_T$ anti-self-dual tensor matter multiplets, $n_V$ vector multiplets and $n_H$ hypermultiplets. The scalar fields of the tensor multiplets form a coset $SO(n_T,1)/SO(n_T)$, while the scalars in the hypermultiplets form quaternionic Kähler symmetric spaces, the generic example being $Sp(n_H,1)/Sp(n_H)\otimes Sp(1)$. The gauging of the compact subgroup $Sp(n_H) \times Sp(1)$ is also described. These results generalize previous ones in the literature on matter couplings of $N=1$ supergravit…
We continue our previous analysis (hep-th/0412045) of 1/2 BPS solutions to minimal 6d supergravity of bubbling form. We show that, by turning on an axion field in the T^2 torus reduction, the constraint F \wedge F, present in the case of an S^1 x S^1 reduction, is relaxed. We prove that the four-dimensional reduction to a bosonic field theory, whose content is the metric, a gauge field, two scalars and a pseudo-scalar (the axion), is consistent. Moreover, these reductions when lifted to the six-dimensional minimal supergravity represent the sought-after family of 1/2 BPS bubbling solutions.
We revisit the D-term inflation and amend it with ghost-free higher derivative couplings of chiral superfields to super-curvature. These couplings realize a more generic inflationary phase in supergravity. After pointing out that a consistent embedding of these specific higher derivatives is known to exist only in the new-minimal supergravity, we show how a potential for the scalar component may arise due to a Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term. We then turn to inflationary cosmology and explicitly discuss different types of potentials, which capture properties of the common scenarios. These models thank…
All cubic couplings in type IIB supergravity on $AdS_5\times S^5$ that involve two scalar fields $s^I$ that are mixtures of the five form field strength on $S^5$ and the trace of the graviton on $S^5$ are derived by using the covariant equations of motion and the quadratic action for type IIB supergravity on $AdS_5\times S^5$. All corresponding three-point functions in SYM$_4$ are calculated in the supergravity approximation. It is pointed out that the scalars $s^I$ correspond not to the chiral primary operators in the ${\cal N}=4$ SYM but rather to a proper extension of the operators.
The uplift of SO(8) gauged N=8 supergravity to 11-dimensional supergravity is well studied in the literature. It is given by consistent relations between the respective vector and scalar fields of both theories. For example, recent work provided non-linear uplift Ansätze for the scalar degrees of freedom on the internal manifold: the inverse metric and the three-form flux with mixed index structure. However, one always found the metric of the compactified manifold by inverting the inverse metric --- a task that was only possible in particular cases, e.g. for the G$_2$, SO(3)$\times$SO(3) or SU…
After reviewing the existing results we give an extensive analysis of the critical points of the potentials of the gauged N=2 Yang-Mills/Einstein Supergravity theories coupled to tensor- and hyper multiplets. Our analysis includes all the possible gaugings of all N=2 Maxwell-Einstein supergravity theories whose scalar manifolds are symmetric spaces. In general, the scalar potential gets contributions from R-symmetry gauging, tensor couplings and hyper-couplings. We show that the coupling of a hypermultiplet into a theory whose potential has a non-zero value at its critical point, and gauging a…
The general form of N=2 supergravity coupled to an arbitrary number of vector multiplets and hypermultiplets, with a generic gauging of the scalar manifold isometries is given.
Recent work on consistent Kaluza-Klein reductions on Einstein-Sasaki spaces prompted an intriguing conjecture that there might exist a consistent $S^5$ reduction of type IIB supergravity to give five-dimensional ${\cal N}=8$ gauged supergravity coupled to a massive supermultiplet that includes the breathing-mode scalar. Motivated by this, we investigate the possibility of augmenting the usual ${\cal N}=8$ supergravity reduction to include a breathing-mode scalar, and we show that this is in fact inconsistent. The standard reduction to the massless ${\cal N}=8$ supermultiplet depends for its co…
We present the explicit expressions in N=8 supergravity for the bosonic 4-particle tree and 1-loop amplitudes including vectors and scalars. We also present the candidate 4-point UV divergences in a form of helicity amplitudes, corresponding to 3-loop manifestly N=8 supersymmetric and Lorentz covariant counterterm. This may shed some light on the 3-loop finiteness of N=8 SG and on a conjectured higher loop finiteness. We perform a supersymmetric deformation to complex momentum of the 4-point generating function including higher-loop counterterms and the 1-loop UV finite amplitudes. Using the e…
Motivated by the recently found 4-dimensional omega-deformed gauge supergravity, we investigate the black hole solutions within all the single scalar field consistent truncations of this theory. We construct black hole solutions that have spherical, toroidal, and hyperbolic horizon topology. The scalar field is regular everywhere outside the curvature singularity and the stress-energy tensor satisfies the null energy condition. When the parameter omega does not vanish, there is a degeneracy in the spectrum of black hole solutions for boundary conditions that preserve the asymptotic Anti-de Sit…
Inflationary slow-roll dynamics in Einstein gravity with a non-minimal scalar-curvature coupling can be equivalent to that in the certain f(R) gravity theory. We review the correspondence and extend it to N=1 supergravity. The non-minimal coupling in supergravity is rewritten in terms of the standard (`minimal') N=1 matter-coupled supergravity by using curved superspace. The established equivalence between two different inflationary theories means the same inflaton scalar potential, and does not imply the same post-inflationary dynamics and reheating.
The purpose of the present thesis is to give a self-contained review of the solvable Lie algebra approach to supergravity problems related with S, T and U dualities. After recalling the general features of dualities in both Superstring theory and Supergravity, we introduce the solvable Lie algebra formalism as an alternative description of the scalar manifold in a broad class of supergravity theories. It is emphasized how this mathematical technique on one hand allows to achieve a geometrical intrinsic characterization of Ramond-Ramond, Neveu-Schwarz and Peccei-Quinn scalars, once the supergra…
We classify half-supersymmetric solutions of gauged N=2, D=5 supergravity coupled to an arbitrary number of abelian vector multiplets for which all of the Killing spinors generate null Killing vectors. We show that there are four classes of solutions, and in each class we find the metric, scalars and gauge field strengths. When the scalar manifold is symmetric, the solutions correspond to a class of local near horizon geometries recently found by Kunduri and Lucietti.
