We study a variant of the majorization relation. In particular we consider inequalities involving some Schur-concave symmetric polynomials related to the multinomial expansion. We also discuss how these topics were motivated by conjectures on sharp Lp inequalities between complex exponential sums conjectured by Hardy and Littlewood (still open problems), and why the usual majorization relation does not hold in that context.

A simplified and unified generalization of some majorization results

We consider positive, integral-preserving linear operators acting on $L^1$ space, known as stochastic operators or Markov operators. We show that, on finite-dimensional spaces, any stochastic operator can be approximated by a sequence of stochastic integral operators (such operators arise naturally when considering matrix majorization in $L^1$). We collect a number of results for vector-valued functions on $L^1$, simplifying some proofs found in the literature. Symmetric polynomials and $l^p$ inequalities for certain intervals of $p$

We prove some sufficient conditions implying $l^p$ inequalities of the form $||x||_p \leq ||y||_p$ for vectors $ x, y \in [0,\infty)^n$ and for $p$ in certain positive real intervals. Our sufficient conditions are strictly weaker than the usual majorization relation. The conditions are expressed in terms of certain homogeneous symmetric polynomials in the entries of the vectors. These polynomials include the elementary symmetric polynomials as a special case. We also give a characterization of the majorization relation by means of symmetric polynomials.

On the sum of squared logarithms inequality and related inequalities

We consider the sum of squared logarithms inequality and investigate possible connections with the theory of majorization. Weighted norm inequalities for fractional maximal operators--a Bellman function approach

We study classical weighted $L^p\to L^q$ inequalities for the fractional maximal operators on $\R^d$, proved originally by Muckenhoupt and Wheeden in the 70's. We establish a slightly stronger version of this inequality with the use of a novel extension of Bellman function method. More precisely, the estimate is deduced from the existence of a certain special function which enjoys appropriate majorization and concavity. Two-weight norm inequalities on Morrey spaces

A description of all the admissible weights similar to the Muckenhoupt class $A_p$ is an open problem for the weighted Morrey spaces. In this paper necessary condition and sufficient condition for two-weight norm inequalities on Morrey spaces to hold are given for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator. A multilinear reverse Hölder inequality with applications to multilinear weighted norm inequalities

In this note we prove a multilinear version of the reverse Hölder inequality in the theory of Muckenhoupt $A_p$ weights. We give two applications of this inequality to the study of multilinear weighted norm inequalities. First, we prove a structure theorem for multilinear $A_{\vec{p}}$ weights; second, we give a new sufficient condition for multilinear, two-weight norm inequalities for the maximal operator.

One and two weight norm inequalities for Riesz potentials

We consider weighted norm inequalities for the Riesz potentials $I_α$, also referred to as fractional integral operators. First we prove mixed $A_p$-$A_\infty$ type estimates in the spirit of [13, 15, 17]. Then we prove strong and weak type inequalities in the case $p<q$ using the so-called log bump conditions. These results complement the strong type inequalities of Pérez [30] and answer a conjecture from [3]. For both sets of results our main tool is a corona decomposition adapted to fractional averages.

Weighted norms inequalities for a maximal operator in some subspace of amalgams

We give weighted norm inequalities for the maximal fractional operator $ \mathcal M_{q,β}$ of Hardy-Littlewood and the fractional integral $I_γ$. These inequalities are established between $(L^{q},L^{p}) ^α(X,d,μ)$ spaces (which are super spaces of Lebesgue spaces $L^α(X,d,μ)$, and subspaces of amalgams $(L^{q},L^{p})(X,d,μ)$) and in the setting of space of homogeneous type $(X,d,μ)$. The conditions on the weights are stated in terms of Orlicz norm.

Sharp weighted norm inequalities for Littlewood-Paley operators and singular integrals

We prove sharp $L^p(w)$ norm inequalities for the intrinsic square function (introduced recently by M. Wilson) in terms of the $A_p$ characteristic of $w$ for all $1<p<\infty$. This implies the same sharp inequalities for the classical Lusin area integral $S(f)$, the Littlewood-Paley $g$-function, and their continuous analogs $S_ψ$ and $g_ψ$. Also, as a corollary, we obtain sharp weighted inequalities for any convolution Calderón-Zygmund operator for all $1<p\le 3/2$ and $3\le p<\infty$, and for its maximal truncations for $3\le p<\infty$.

Weighted norm inequalities for oscillatory integrals with finite type phases on the line

We obtain two-weighted $L^2$ norm inequalities for oscillatory integral operators of convolution type on the line whose phases are of finite type. The conditions imposed on the weights involve geometrically-defined maximal functions, and the inequalities are best-possible in the sense that they imply the full $L^p(\mathbb{R})\rightarrow L^q(\mathbb{R})$ mapping properties of the oscillatory integrals. Our results build on work of Carbery, Soria, Vargas and the first author.
