The grading Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) method gives a way to construct the integer $W_{2,s}$ strings, where the BRST charge is written as $Q_B=Q_0+Q_1$. Using this method, we reconstruct the nilpotent BRST charges $Q_{0}$ for the integer $W_{2,s}$ strings and the half-integer $W_{2,s}$ strings. Then we construct the exact grading BRST charge with spinor fields and give the new realizations of the half-integer $W_{2,s}$ strings for the cases of $s=3/2$, 5/2, and 7/2.
In this paper, we construct the nilpotent Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin($BRST$) charges of spinor non-critical $W_{2,s}$ strings. The cases of $s=3,4$ are discussed in detail, and spinor realization for $s=4$ is given explicitly. The $BRST$ charges are graded.
We investigate the new spinor field realizations of the $W_{3}$ algebra, making use of the fact that the $W_{3}$ algebra can be linearized by the addition of a spin-1 current. We then use these new realizations to build the nilpotent Becchi-Rouet-Stora--Tyutin (BRST) charges of the spinor non-critical $W_{3}$ string.
In this paper, we investigate the spinor field realizations of the $W_{2,4}$ algebra, making use of the fact that the $W_{2,4}$ algebra can be linearized through the addition of a spin-1 current. And then the nilpotent BRST charges of the spinor non-critical $W_{2,4}$ string were built with these realizations.
It has been shown that certain W algebras can be linearized by the inclusion of a spin-1 current. This Provides a way of obtaining new realizations of the W algebras. In this paper, we investigate the new ghost field realizations of the W(2,s)(s=3,4) algebras, making use of the fact that these two algebras can be linearized. We then construct the nilpotent BRST charges of the spinor non-critical W(2,s) strings with these new realizations.
Although the chiral dotted spinor superfield should describe a Massive Superspin One Half multiplet, it has not been obvious how to derive this from an action. In this paper this is done by including a chiral undotted spinor superfield, finding the BRST transformations that govern both of these, and then finding the action as an invariant of the transformations. It turns out that both kinds of spinor superfields are needed. Moreover, the BRST transformations for the two kinds of chiral spinor superfields are generated from each other by a special involution that exchanges Grassmann odd (even) …
In this paper, we define a new spinor classification that encompasses the recently proposed spin-half bosons with mass dimension three-half. As it will be shown, these particles, which are governed by a first-order equation and consequently provide a local theory, belong to a specific subclass of class-2 spinors within the bosonic classification, playing a similar role to Dirac spinors within the Lounesto classification. Such bosonic classification is shown to be closely connected with the usual fermionic Lounesto classification, and thus, evincing a symmetry between Dirac fermions and spin-ha…
An earlier paper introduced an action for a new kind of irreducible massive superspin one half multiplet, using BRST cohomological techniques including `BRST Recycling'. A mass term was introduced in the earlier paper. A second mass term is discussed in this paper. This new mass invariant is an `Extraordinary Invariant'--it has Zinn sources in it. The natural treatment for this situation is to `Complete the Action' so that the new action yields zero for the BRST Poisson Bracket. In the present case, this Completion meets a BRST Obstruction. Setting the coefficient of this `Completion Obstructi…
This paper reviews how a two-state, spin-one-half system transforms under rotations. It then uses that knowledge to explain how momentum-zero, spin-one-half annihilation and creation operators transform under rotations. The paper then explains how a spin-one-half field transforms under rotations. The momentum-zero spinors are found from the way spin-one-half systems transform under rotations and from the Dirac equation. Once the momentum-zero spinors are known, the Dirac equation immediately yields the spinors at finite momentum. The paper then shows that with these spinors, a Dirac field tran…
We consider firstly simple D=4 superalgebra with six real tensorial central charges $Z_{μν}$, and discuss its possible realizations in massive and massless cases. Massless case is dynamically realized by generalized Ferber-Shirafuji (FS) model with fundamental bosonic spinor coordinates. The Lorentz invariance is not broken due to the realization of central charges generators in terms of bosonic spinors. The model contains four fermionic coordinates and possesses three kappa-symmetries thus providing the BPS configuration preserving 3/4 of the target space supersymmetries. We show that the phy…
The analytical algorithm previously proposed by the author for matching the Volkov-Akulov (VA) and Komargodski-Seiberg (KS) actions describing the Nambu-Goldstone (NG) fermion, is discussed. The essence of the algotithm is explained, its consistency is proved and the recent results obtained with computer assistance are reproduced, when the proper Fierz rearrangements for Majorana bispinors are taken into account. We reveal a linear space of composite spinorial monomials $Δ_{m}$ which are the solutions of the scalar constraint $(\partial^{m}\barψΔ_{m})=0$. This space is used to clarify relation…
We make use of O(2r+1) spinning particle models to construct linearized higher-spin curvatures in (A)dS spaces for fields of arbitrary half-integer spin propagating in a space of arbitrary (even) dimension: the field potentials, whose curvatures are computed with the present models, are spinor-tensors of mixed symmetry corresponding to Young tableaux with D/2 - 1 rows and r columns, thus reducing to totally symmetric spinor-tensors in four dimensions. The paper generalizes similar results obtained in the context of integer spins in (A)dS.
In this article, we extend the %Weyl-van der Waerden spinor technique for calculating helicity amplitudes to general massive fields of half-integer spins. We find that the little group generators can be represented as first-order differential operators in the spinor formalism. We use the spinor forms of the generators to get the explicit form of the massive fields of any spin and any helicity. We also deal with the three-particle S-matrix by these spinor form generators, and find that we are able to extend the explicit form of the three-particle vertex obtained by Benincasa and Cachazo to the …
After adding an RNS-like fermionic vector ψ^m to the pure spinor formalism, the non-minimal b ghost takes a simple form similar to the pure spinor BRST operator. The N=2 superconformal field theory generated by the b ghost and the BRST current can be interpreted as a "dynamical twisting" of the RNS formalism where the choice of which spin half ψ^m variables are twisted into spin 0 and spin 1 variables is determined by the pure spinor variables that parameterize the coset SO(10)/U(5).
In this letter we suggest a natural spinor-helicity formalism for massless fields in AdS${}_4$. It is based on the standard realization of the AdS${}_4$ isometry algebra $so(3,2)$ in terms of differential operators acting on $sl(2,\mathbb{C})$ spinor variables. We start by deriving the AdS counterpart of plane waves in flat space and then use them to evaluate simple scattering amplitudes. Finally, based on symmetry arguments we classify all three-point amplitudes involving massless spinning fields. As in flat space, we find that the spinor-helicity formalism allows to construct additional cons…
From a geometric point of view, massless spinors in $3+1$ dimensions are composed of primary fields of weights $(\frac{1}{2},0)$ and $(0,\frac{1}{2})$, where the weights are defined with respect to diffeomorphisms of a sphere in momentum space. The Weyl equation thus appears as a consequence of the transformation behavior of local sections of half--canonical bundles under a change of charts. As a consequence, it is possible to impose covariant constraints on spinors of negative (positive) helicity in terms of (anti--)holomorphy conditions. Furthermore, the identification with half--differentia…
The relation between Geisteswissenschaft and Naturwissenschaft has been discussed by Munster in hep-th/9305104. The plan of this paper is to begin with the empty set; use it to form sets and quivers (sets of points plus sets of arrows between pairs of points); and then use them to make complex vector spaces and to get the A-D-E Coxeter-Dynkin diagrams. The Dn Spin(2n) Lie algebras have spinor representations to describe fermions. D4 Spin(8) triality gives automorphisms among its vector and two half-spinor representations. D5 Spin(10) contains both Spin(8) and the complexification of the vector…
Within the context of the extended bi-spinor gauge theory we describe a new off-shell realization of scalar supersymmetry (s-susy) of massless interacting fields with U(1), U(1) x SU(N) and U(1) x SU(N_1) x SU(N_2) gauge groups. S-susy acts in the space of graded differential forms. The realization is non-linear in the non-abelian case. S-susy would not require the doubling of the SM particle spectrum. Instead, essentially only the forth generation of quarks and leptons would be needed as extra field content. The theory is by construction globally U(2,2) invariant and is an example of a supers…
Quaternionic and octonionic realizations of Clifford algebras and spinors are classified and explicitly constructed in terms of recursive formulas. The most general free dynamics in arbitrary signature space-times for both quaternionic and octonionic spinors is presented. In the octonionic case we further provide a systematic list of results and tables expressing, e.g., the relations of the octonionic Clifford algebras with the $G_2$ cosets over the Lorentz algebras, the identities satisfied by the higher-rank antisymmetric octonionic tensors and so on. Applications of these results range from…
We construct the $d$ dimensional "half" Schrödinger equation, which is a kind of the root of the Schrödinger equation, from the $d+1$ dimensional free Dirac equation. The solution of the "half" Schrödinger equation also satisfies the usual free Schrödinger equation. We also find that the explicit transformation laws of the Schrödinger and the half Schrödinger fields under the Schrödinger symmetry transformation are derived by starting from the Klein-Gordon equation and the Dirac equation in $d+1$ dimensions. We derive the 3 and 4 dimensional super-Schrödinger algebra from the superconformal al…
It is hard to understand spin-one-half fields without reading Weinberg. This paper is a pedagogical footnote to his formalism with an emphasis on the boost matrix, spinors, and Majorana fields.
We formulate the conditions for the generalized fields in the space with additional commuting Weyl spinor coordinates which define the infinite half-integer spin representation of the four-dimensional Poincaré group. Using this formulation we develop the BRST approach and derive the Lagrangian for the half-integer infinite spin fields.
We describe a new realization of supersymmetry, called scalar supersymmetry, acting in spaces of differential forms (bi-spinors), where transformation parameters are Lorentz scalars instead of spinors. The realization is related but is not reducible to the standard supersymmetry. Explicit construction of chiral multiplets that do not require doubling of the spectrum of a gauge theory is presented. A bi-spinor s-supersymmetric string action is described.
Using the pure spinor formalism for the superstring in an $AdS_5\times S^5$ background, a simple expression is found for half-BPS vertex operators. At large radius, these vertex operators reduce to the usual supergravity vertex operators in a flat background. And at small radius, there is a natural conjecture for generalizing these vertex operators to non-BPS states.
After adding a pair of non-minimal fields and performing a similarity transformation, the BRST operator in the pure spinor formalism is expressed as a conventional-looking BRST operator involving the Virasoro constraint and (b,c) ghosts, together with 12 fermionic constraints. This BRST operator can be obtained by gauge-fixing the Green-Schwarz superstring where the 8 first-class and 8 second-class Green-Schwarz constraints are combined into 12 first-class constraints. Alternatively, the pure spinor BRST operator can be obtained from the RNS formalism by twisting the ten spin-half RNS fermions…
The genuine Kaluza-Klein-like theories--with no fields in addition to gravity--have difficulties with the existence of massless spinors after the compactification of some space dimensions \cite{witten}. We proposed in previous paper a boundary condition for spinors in d=(1+5) compactified on a flat disk that ensures masslessness of spinors (with all positive half integer charges) in d=(1+3) as well as their chiral coupling to the corresponding background gauge gravitational field. In this paper we study the same toy model, proposing a boundary condition allowing a massless spinor of one handed…
The fact that certain non-linear $W_{2,s}$ algebras can be linearized by the inclusion of a spin-1 current can provide a simple way to realize $W_{2,s}$ algebras from linear $W_{1,2,s}$ algebras. In this paper, we first construct the explicit field realizations of linear $W_{1,2,s}$ algebras with double-scalar and double-spinor, respectively. Then, after a change of basis, the realizations of $W_{2,s}$ algebras are presented. The results show that all these realizations are Romans-type realizations.
Extending the results of a previous paper, we consider boundary conditions for spinor fields and other fields of non-zero spin in the AdS/CFT correspondence. We calculate the RG-flow induced by double trace perturbations dual to bulk spinor fields. For spinors there is a half-unit shift in the central charge in running from the UV to the IR, in accordance with the c-theorem.
We construct two families of globally supersymmetric counterparts of standard Poincaré supersymmetric SYM theories on curved space-times admitting Killing spinors, in all dimensions less than six and eight respectively. The former differs from the standard theory only by mass terms for the fermions and scalars and modified supersymmetry transformation rules, the latter in addition has cubic Chern-Simons like couplings for the scalar fields. We partially calculate the supersymmetry algebra of these models, finding R-symmetry extensions proportional to the curvature. We also show that genericall…
BPS black hole configurations which break half of supersymmetry in the theory of N=2, d=5 supergravity coupled to an arbitrary number of abelian vector multiplets are discussed. A general class of solutions comprising all known BPS rotating black hole solutions is obtained.
We describe a new realization of both global and local supersymmetry acting in spaces of commuting and anticommuting differential forms. Unlike the standard supersymmetry, it has Lorentz scalar transformation parameters. It is related but is not reducible to standard supersymmetry. Reformulation of the Standard Model with the new supersymmetry, called scalar supersymmetry, can be achieved with the particle content of the SM. BRST symmetry is extended to include scalar supersymmetry multiplets. Linear realization of scalar supersymmetry with free fields or with fields interacting with backgroun…
Open string boundary conditions for non-BPS D-branes in type II string theories discussed in hep-th/0505157 give rise to two sectors with integer (R sector) and half-integer (NS sector) modes for the combined fermionic matter and bosonic ghost variables in pure spinor formalism. Exploiting the manifest supersymmetry of the formalism we explicitly construct the DDF (Del Giudice, Di Vecchia, Fubini) states in both the sectors which are in one-to-one correspondence with the states in light-cone Green-Schwarz formalism. We also give a proof of validity of this construction. A similar construction …
Electrically charged solutions breaking half of the supersymmetry in Anti-De Sitter four dimensional N=2 supergravity coupled to vector supermultiplets are constructed. These static black holes live in an asymptotic $AdS_4$ space-time. The Killing spinor, i. e., the spinor for supersymmetry variation is explicitly constructed for these solutions.
We describe the scalar and spinor fields on noncommutative sphere starting from canonical realizations of the enveloping algebra ${\cal A}={\cal U}{u(2))}$. The gauge extension of a free spinor model, the Schwinger model on a noncommutative sphere, is defined and the model is quantized. The noncommutative version of the model contains only a finite number of dynamical modes and is non-perturbatively UV-regular. An exact expresion for the chiral anomaly is found. In the commutative limit the standard formula is recovered.
A variant for the superspin one-half massive superparticle in $ 4D $, $ \mathcal{N}=1 $, based on Dirac superfields, is offered. As opposed to the current known models that use spinor chiral superfields, the propagating fields of the supermultiplet are those of the lowest mass dimensions possible: scalar, Dirac and vector fields. Besides the supersymmetric chiral condition, the Dirac superfields are not further constrained, allowing a very straightforward implementation of the path-integral method. The corresponding superpropagators are presented. In addition, an interaction super Yukawa poten…
We solve for spectrum, obtain explicitly and study group properties of eigenfunctions of Dirac operator on the Riemann sphere $S^2$. The eigenvalues $λ$ are nonzero integers. The eigenfunctions are two-component spinors that belong to representations of SU(2)-group with half-integer angular momenta $l = |λ| - \half$. They form on the sphere a complete orthonormal functional set alternative to conventional spherical spinors. The difference and relationship between the spherical spinors in question and the standard ones are explained.
A universal minimal spinor set of linear differential equations describing anyons and ordinary integer and half-integer spin fields is constructed with the help of deformed Heisenberg algebra with reflection. The construction is generalized to some d=2+1 supersymmetric field systems. Quadratic and linear forms of action functionals are found for the universal minimal as well as for supersymmetric spinor sets of equations. A possibility of constructing a universal classical mechanical model for d=2+1 spin systems is discussed.
We initiate a systematic study of the solutions of three-dimensional matter-coupled half-maximal (N=8) supergravities which admit a Killing spinor. To this end we analyze in detail the invariant tensors built from spinor bilinears, a technique originally developed and applied in higher dimensions. This reveals an intriguing interplay with the scalar target space geometry SO(8,n)/(SO(8) x SO(n)). Another interesting feature of the three-dimensional case is the implementation of the duality between vector and scalar fields in this framework. For the ungauged theory with timelike Killing vector, …
We review how Elko arise as an extension of complex valued four-component Majorana spinors. This is followed by a discussion that constrains certain elements of phase freedom. A proof is reviewed that unambiguously establishes that Elko, and for that matter the indicated Majorana spinors, cannot satisfy Dirac equation. They, however do, as they must, satisfy spinorial Klein-Gordon equation. We then introduce a quantum field with Elko as its expansion coefficients and show that it is causal, satisfies Fermi statistics, and then refer to the existing literature to remind that its mass dimensiona…
We present a general formalism for simplifying manipulations of spin indices of massless and massive spinors and vectors in Feynman diagrams. The formalism is based on covariantly reducing the number of field components in the action in favor of chiral/self-dual fields. In this paper we concentrate on calculational simplifications involving fermions in gauge theories by eliminating half of the components of Dirac spinors. Some results are: (1) We find reference momenta for massless fermions analogous to those used for external gauge bosons. (2) Many of the known supersymmetry identities (tree …
There are Poincare group representations on complex Hilbert spaces, like the Dirac spinor field, or real Hilbert spaces, like the electromagnetic field tensor. The Majorana spinor is an element of a 4 dimensional real vector space. The Majorana spinor field is a space-time dependent Majorana spinor, solution of the free Dirac equation. The Majorana-Fourier and Majorana-Hankel transforms of Majorana spinor fields are defined and related to the linear and angular momenta of a spin one-half representation of the Poincare group. We show that the Majorana spinor field with finite mass is an unitary…
We give the full set of $S$ matrices for extensions of $D(n)_1$ permutation orbifolds, extending our previous work to the yet unknown case of integer spin spinor currents. The main tool is triality of SO(8). We also provide fixed point resolution matrices for spinor currents of $D(n)_1$ permutation orbifolds with $n$ even and not multiple of four, where the spinor currents have half-integer spin.
We provide a detailed description of our previously proposed scheme for topological interface engineering with constructed defects and textures perforating across coherent interfaces between different broken symmetries [M. O. Borgh and J. Ruostekoski, Phys. Rev. Lett. 109, 015302 (2012)]. We consider a spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate, in which polar and ferromagnetic phases are prepared in spatially separated regions. We show that a stable coherent interface is established between the two phases, allowing defects of different topology to connect continuously across the boundary. We provide ana…
Let $Θ$ be the Wigner time reversal operator for spin half and let $ϕ$ be a Weyl spinor. Then, for a left-transforming $ϕ$, the construct $ζ_λΘϕ^\ast$ yields a right-transforming spinor. If instead, $ϕ$ is a right-transforming spinor, then the construct $ζ_ρΘϕ^\ast$ results in a left-transforming spinor ($ζ_{λ,ρ}$ are phase factors). This allows us to introduce two sets of four-component spinors. Setting $ζ_λ$ and $ζ_ρ$ to $\pm i$ render all eight spinors as eigenspinor of the charge conjugation operator~$\mathcal{C}$ (called ELKO). This allows us to introduce two quantum fields. A calculation…
We construct the off-shell BV realization of N=1, d=10 SYM with 7 auxillary fields. This becomes possible due to materialized ghost phenomenon. Namely, supersymmetry ghosts are coordinates on a manifold B of 10-dimensional spinors with pure spinors cut out. Auxillary fields are sections of a bundle over B, and supersymmetry transformations are nonlinear in ghosts. By integrating out axillary fields we obtain on-shell supersymmetric BV action with terms quadratic in antifields. Exactly this on-shell BV action was obtained in our previous paper after integration out of auxiliary fields in the fr…
We investigate the effect of the intrinsic spin of a fundamental spinor field on the surrounding spacetime geometry. We show that despite the lack of a rotating stress-energy source (and despite claims to the contrary) the intrinsic spin of a spin-half fermion gives rise to a frame-dragging effect analogous to that of orbital angular momentum, even in Einstein-Hilbert gravity where torsion is constrained to be zero. This resolves a paradox regarding the counter-force needed to restore Newton's third law in the well known spin-orbit interaction. In addition, the frame-dragging effect gives rise…
A fundamental action, representing a mass dimension-transmuting operator between Dirac and ELKO spinor fields, is performed on the Dirac Lagrangian, in order to lead it into the ELKO Lagrangian. Such a dynamical transformation can be seen as a natural extension of the Standard Model that incorporates dark matter fields. The action of the mass dimension-transmuting operator on a Dirac spinor field, that defines and introduces such a mapping, is shown to be a composition of the Dirac operator and the non-unitary transformation that maps Dirac spinor fields into ELKO spinor fields, defined in a p…
