We investigate magnetic properties and statistical effects in 1D strongly repulsive two-component fermions and in a 1D mixture of strongly repulsive polarized fermions and bosons. Universality in the characteristics of phase transitions, magnetization and susceptibility in the presence of an external magnetic field $H$ are analyzed from the exact thermodynamic Bethe ansatz solution. We show explicitly that polarized fermions with a repulsive interaction have antiferromagnetic behavior at zero temperature. A universality class of linear field-dependent magnetization persists for weak and finite strong interaction. The system is fully polarized when the external field exceeds the critical value $H^F_c\approx \frac{8}γE_F$, where $E_F$ is the Fermi energy and $γ$ is the dimensionless interaction strength. In contrast, the mixture of polarized fermions and bosons in an external field exhibits square-root field-dependent magnetization in the vicinities of H=0 and the critical value $H=H^M_c\approx \frac{16}γE_F$. We find that a pure boson phase occurs in the absence of the external field, fully-polarized fermions and bosons coexist for $0<H<H^M_c$, and a fully-polarized fermion phase occurs for $H\ge H_c^M$. This phase diagram for the Bose-Fermi mixture is reminiscent of weakly attractive fermions with population imbalance, where the interacting fermions with opposite spins form singlet pairs.
We consider the asymptotic solutions to the Bethe ansatz equations of the integrable model of interacting bosons in the weakly interacting limit. In this limit we establish that the ground state maps to the highest energy state of a strongly-coupled repulsive bosonic pairing model.
Resonant Raman coupling between internal levels induced by continuous illumination of non-collinear laser beams can create double-well momentum-space potentials for multi-level ``periodically-dressed'' atoms. We develop an approximate many-body formalism for a weakly interacting, trapped periodically-dressed Bose gas which illustrates how a tunable exchange interaction yields correlated many-body ground states. In contrast to the case of a position-space double well, the ground state of stable periodically-dressed Bose gases with repulsive interactions tends toward a Schrödinger cat state in t…
We study weakly-repulsive Bose-Bose mixtures in two and three dimensions at zero temperature using the functional renormalization group (FRG). We examine the RG flows and the role of density and spin fluctuations. We study the condition for phase separation and find that this occurs at the mean-field point within the range of parameters explored. Finally, we examine the energy per particle and condensation depletion. We obtain that our FRG calculations compare favorably with known results from perturbative approaches for macroscopic properties.
We consider two-dimensional imperfect attractive Fermi and repulsive Bose gases consisting of spinless point particles whose total interparticle interaction energy is represented by $a N^2/2 V$ with $a=-a_{F}\leq 0$ for fermions, and $a=a_{B}\geq 0$ for bosons. We show that in spite of the attraction the thermodynamics of $d=2$ imperfect Fermi gas remains well defined for $0 \leq a_{F}\leq a_{0}=h^2/2πm$, and is exactly the same as the one of the repulsive imperfect Bose gas with $a_{B}=a_{0}-a_{F}$. In particular, for $a_{F}=a_{0}$ one observes the thermodynamic equivalence of the attractive …
We study a homogeneous Bose gas with purely repulsive forces. Using the Kac scaling of the binary potential we derive analytically the form of the thermodynamic functions of the gas for small but finite values of the scaling parameter in the low density regime. In this way we determine dominant corrections to the mean-field theory. It turns out that repulsive forces increase the pressure at fixed density and decrease the density at given chemical potential (the temperature is kept constant). They also flatten the Bose momentum distribution. However, the present analysis cannot be extended to t…
We study the Casimir effect for a three dimensional system of ideal free massive Bose gas in a slab geometry with Zaremba and anti-periodic boundary conditions. It is found that for these type of boundary conditions the resulting Casimir force is repulsive in nature, in contrast with usual periodic, Dirichlet or Neumann boundary condition where the Casimir force is attractive (Martin P. A. and Zagrebnov V. A., Europhys. Lett., 73 (2006) 15.). Casimir forces in these boundary conditions also maintain a power law decay function below condensation temperature and exponential decay function above …
We analytically calculate the spatial nonlocal pair correlation function for an interacting uniform 1D Bose gas at finite temperature and propose an experimental method to measure nonlocal correlations. Our results span six different physical realms, including the weakly and strongly interacting regimes. We show explicitly that the characteristic correlation lengths are given by one of four length scales: the thermal de Broglie wavelength, the mean interparticle separation, the healing length, or the phase coherence length. In all regimes, we identify the profound role of interactions and find…
We show that the Kapitza stabilization can occur in the context of nonlinear quantum fields. Through this phenomenon, an amplitude-modulated lattice can stabilize a Bose-Einstein condensate with repulsive interactions and prevent the spreading for long times. We present a classical and quantum analysis in the framework of Gross-Pitaevskii equation, specifying the parameter region where stabilization occurs. Effects of nonlinearity lead to a significant increase of the stability domain compared with the classical case. Our proposal can be experimentally implemented with current cold atom settin…
By examining the bound-state spectra of transverse fluctuations about one-dimensional, spatially localized dark and bright soliton wavetrains of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation, it is established that the low-temperature ground states of repulsive and attractive quasi-one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates are degenerate. In the one-soliton limit, both ground states are shown to possess two distinct transverse fluctuation modes which can couple to the spatial soliton: the first involves zero-energy exchange, costing only the soliton shape dressing via uniform translation of its centre of mass…
Ground state properties of trapped Bose condensate with repulsive interaction in non-homogeneous gravitational field are studied. Spatial structure of Bose condensate and its momentum distributions in 3-D anisotropic trap are considered by the solution of the modified non-linear Schrodinger equation. The results are compared with the corresponding properties of condensate in a harmonic trap without gravitational field.
A modified Gross-Pitaevskii approximation was introduced recently for bosons in dimension $d\le2$ by Kolomeisky {\it et al.} (Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 85} 1146 (2000)). We use the density functional approach with sixth-degree interaction energy term in the Bose field to reproduce the stationary-frame results of Kolomeisky {\it et al.} for a one-dimensional Bose-Einstein system with a repulsive interaction. We also find a soliton solution for an attractive interaction, which may be boosted to a finite velocity by a Galilean transformation. The stability of such a soliton is discussed analytically.…
Quantum heat engine with ideal gas has been well studied, yet the role of interaction was seldom explored. We construct a quantum Otto heat engine with N repulsive Bosonic particles in a 1D hard wall box. With the advantage of exact solution using Bethe Ansatz, we obtain not only the exact numerical result of efficiency in all interacting strength c, but also analytical results for strong interaction. We find the efficiency ηrecovers to the one of non-interacting case $η_{\mathrm{non}}=1-(L_{1}/L_{2})^{2}$ for strong interaction with asympotic behavior $η\simη_{\mathrm{non}}-4(N-1)L_{1}\left(L…
We study the statistical mechanics of a two-dimensional gas with a repulsive delta function interaction, using a mean field approximation. By a direct counting of states we establish that this model obeys exclusion statistics and is equivalent to an ideal exclusion statistics gas.
We investigate the large-distance asymptotic behavior of the static density-density and field-field correlation functions in the one-dimensional Bose gas at finite temperature. The asymptotic expansions of the Bose gas correlators are obtained performing a specific continuum limit in the similar low-temperature expansions of the longitudinal and transversal correlation functions of the XXZ spin chain. In the lattice system the correlation lengths are computed as ratios of the largest and next-largest eigenvalues of the XXZ spin chain quantum transfer matrix. In both cases, lattice and continuu…
We study by quantum Monte Carlo simulations the ground state of a harmonically confined dipolar Bose gas with aligned dipole moments, and with the inclusion of a repulsive two-body potential of varying range. Two different limits can be clearly identified, namely a classical one in which the attractive part of the dipolar interaction dominates and the system forms an ordered array of parallel filaments, and a quantum-mechanical one, wherein filaments are destabilized by zero-point motion, and eventually the ground state becomes a uniform cloud. The physical character of the system smoothly evo…
In 1963, a Simple Approach was developed to study the ground state energy of an interacting Bose gas. It consists in the derivation of an Equation, which is not based on perturbation theory, and which gives the exact expansion of the energy at low densities. This Equation is expressed directly in the thermodynamic limit, and only involves functions of $3$ variables, rather than $3N$. Here, we revisit this approach, and show that the Equation yields accurate predictions for various observables for all densities. Specifically, in addition to the ground state energy, we have shown that the Simple…
We consider rapid cooling processes in classical, 3-dimensional, purely repulsive binary mixtures in which an initial infinite-temperature (ideal-gas) configuration is instantly quenched to zero temperature. It is found that such systems display two kinds of ordering processes, the type of which can be controlled by tuning the interactions between unlike particles. While strong inter-species repulsion leads to chemical ordering in terms of an unmixing process, weak repulsion gives rise to spontaneous crystallization, maintaining chemical homogeneity. This result indicates the existence of a tr…
We investigate perturbative thermodynamic geometry of nonextensive ideal Classical, Bose and Fermi gases. We show that the intrinsic statistical interaction of nonextensive Bose (Fermi) gas is attractive (repulsive) similar to the extensive case but the value of thermodynamic curvature is changed by nonextensive parameter. In contrary to the extensive ideal classical gas, the nonextensive one may be divided to two different regimes. According to deviation parameter of the system to the nonextensive case, one can find a special value of fugacity, $z^{*}$, where the sign of thermodynamic curvatur…
We study by means of first principle Quantum Monte Carlo simulations the ground state phase diagram of a system of dipolar bosons with aligned dipole moments, and with the inclusion of a two-body repulsive potential of varying range. The system is shown to display a supersolid phase in a relatively broad region of the phase diagram, featuring different crystalline patterns depending on the density and on the range of the repulsive part of the interaction (scattering length). The supersolid phase is sandwiched between a classical crystal of parallel filaments and a homogeneous superfluid phase.…
We investigate the behavior of a dilute quasi two-dimensional, harmonically confined, weakly interacting Bose gas within the finite-temperature Thomas-Fermi approximation. We find that the thermodynamic properties of the system are markedly different for repulsive and attractive interactions. Specifically, in contrast to the repulsive case, there appears to be a phase transition when the atoms interact with an attractive pseudo-potential, in the sense that there is no self-consistent solution for the normal ground state below a certain temperature $T^{\star}$. These numerical findings are supp…
We calculate the asymptotic behaviour of correlation functions as a function of the microscopic parameters for a Bose-Fermi mixture with repulsive interaction in one dimension. For two cases, namely polarized and unpolarized fermions the singularities of the momentum distribution functions are characterized as a function of the coupling constant and the relative density of bosons.
We consider an impurity in a semi-infinite one-dimensional system of weakly-interacting bosons. We calculate the interaction potential for the impurity due to the end of the system, i.e., the wall. For local repulsive (attractive) interaction between the impurity and the Bose gas, the interaction potential is attractive (repulsive). At short distances from the wall it decays exponentially crossing over into a universal $1/r^2$ behavior at separations $r$ above the healing length. Our results can also be interpreted as a Casimir-like interaction between two impurities, where one of them is infi…
We consider the quantum delta-Bose gas on the infinite line. For repulsive interactions, Tracy and Widom have obtained an exact formula for the quantum propagator. In our contribution we explicitly perform its analytic continuation to attractive interactions. We also study the connection to the expansion of the propagator in terms of the Bethe ansatz eigenfunctions. Thereby we provide an independent proof of their completeness.
