We clearly show that the symplectic structures deformations lead, upon quantization, to quantum theories of non commutative fields. Two variants of deformations are considered. The quantization is performed and the modes expansions of the quantum fields are derived. The Hamiltonians are given and the degeneracies lifting induced by the deformation is also discussed. As illustration, we consider the noncommutative chiral boson fields in the context of fractional quantum Hall effect. A generalized fractional filling factor is derived and shown to reproduce the Jain Hall states. We also show that the coupling of left and right edge excitations of a quantum Hall sample, gives rise a noncommutative chiral boson theory. The coupling or the non-commutativity induces a shift of the chiral components velocities. A non linear dispersion relation is obtained corroborating some recent analytical and numerical analysis.
Quiver varieties have recently appeared in various different areas of Mathematics such as representation theory of Kac-Moody algebras and quantum groups, instantons on 4-manifolds, and resolutions Kleinian singularities. In this paper, we show that many important affine quiver varieties, e.g., the Calogero-Moser space, can be imbedded as coadjoint orbits in the dual of an appropriate infinite dimensional Lie algebra. In particular, there is an infinitesimally transitive action of the Lie algebra in question on the quiver variety. Our construction is based on an extension of Kontsevich's formal…
In this article, we define a non-commutative deformation of the "symplectic invariants" of an algebraic hyperelliptical plane curve. The necessary condition for our definition to make sense is a Bethe ansatz. The commutative limit reduces to the symplectic invariants, i.e. algebraic geometry, and thus we define non-commutative deformations of some algebraic geometry quantities. In particular our non-commutative Bergmann kernel satisfies a Rauch variational formula. Those non-commutative invariants are inspired from the large N expansion of formal non-hermitian matrix models. Thus they are expe…
Non-commutative analysis tools have successfully been applied to the integer quantum Hall effect, in particular for a proof of the stability of the Hall conductance in an Anderson localization regime and of the bulk-boundary correspondence. In this work, these techniques are implemented to study two-dimensional dirty superconductors described by Bogoliubov-de Gennes Hamiltonians. After a thorough presentation of the basic framework and the topological invariants, Kubo formulas for the thermal, thermoelectric and spin Hall conductance are analyzed together with the corresponding edge currents.
We give a short review of the algebraic procedure known as deformation quantisation, which replaces a commutative algebra with a non-commutative algebra. We use this framework to examine how the objects known as wavefunctions, as known in the quantum curve literature, arise from deformation quantisation. We give an example in terms of the planar conic $-y+x^2+2 xy + y^2$, and construct an associated wavefunction. We also give an example of the symplectic reduction of a wavefunction, following a procedure from Kontsevich and Soibelman arXiv:1701.09137.
We show that the integer quantum Hall effect systems in plane, sphere or disc, can be formulated in terms of an algebraic unified scheme. This can be achieved by making use of a generalized Weyl--Heisenberg algebra and investigating its basic features. We study the electromagnetic excitation and derive the Hamiltonian for droplets of fermions on a two-dimensional Bargmann space (phase space). This excitation is introduced through a deformation (perturbation) of the symplectic structure of the phase space. We show the major role of Moser's lemma in dressing procedure, which allows us to elimina…
Topological quantum numbers account for the precise quantization that occurs in the integer Hall effect. In this theory, Kubo's formula for the conductance acquires a topological interpretation in terms of Chern numbers and their non-commutative analog, the Fredholm Indices.
We investigate properties of the covariance matrix in the framework of non-commutative quantum mechanics for an one-parameter family of transformations between the familiar Heisenberg-Weyl algebra and a particular extension of it. Employing as a measure of the Robertson-Schrödinger uncertainty principle the linear symplectic capacity of the Weyl ellipsoid (and its dual), we determine its corresponding bounds. Inequalities between the capacities for non-commutative phase-spaces are established. We also present a constructive example based on a simple model to justify our theoretical predictions…
In this thesis we give obstructions for Drinfel'd twist deformation quantization on several classes of symplectic manifolds. Motivated from this quantization procedure, we further construct a noncommutative Cartan calculus on any braided commutative algebra, as well as an equivariant Levi-Civita covariant derivative for any non-degenerate equivariant metric. This generalizes and unifies the Cartan calculus on a smooth manifold and the Cartan calculus on twist star product algebras. We prove that the Drinfel'd functor leads to equivalence classes in braided commutative geometry and commutes wit…
The classical Einstein's gravity can be reformulated from the constrained U(2,2) gauge theory on the ordinary (commutative) four-dimensional spacetime. Here we consider a noncommutative manifold with a symplectic structure and construct a U(2,2) gauge theory on such a manifold by using the covariant coordinate method. Then we use the Seiberg-Witten map to express noncommutative quantities in terms of their commutative counterparts up to the first-order in noncommutative parameters. After imposing constraints we obtain a noncommutative gravity theory described by the Lagrangian with up to nonva…
Classical differential geometry can be encoded in spectral data, such as Connes' spectral triples, involving supersymmetry algebras. In this paper, we formulate non-commutative geometry in terms of supersymmetric spectral data. This leads to generalizations of Connes' non-commutative spin geometry encompassing non-commutative Riemannian, symplectic, complex-Hermitian and (Hyper-)Kaehler geometry. A general framework for non-commutative geometry is developed from the point of view of supersymmetry and illustrated in terms of examples. In particular, the non-commutative torus and the non-commuta…
The ``exotic'' particle model with non-commuting position coordinates, associated with the two-parameter central extension of the planar Galilei group, can be used to derive the ground states of the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect. The relation to other NC models is discussed. Anomalous coupling is presented. Similar equations arise for a semiclassical Bloch electron, used to explain the anomalous/spin/optical Hall effects.
The classical description of A_n internal degrees of freedom is given by making use of the Fock--Bargmann analytical realization. The symplectic deformation of phase space, including the internal degrees of freedom, is discussed. We show that the Moser's lemma provides a mapping to eliminate the fluctuations of the symplectic structure, which become encoded in the Hamiltonian of the system. We discuss the relation between Moser and Seiberg--Witten maps. One physics applications of this result is the electromagnetic excitation of a large collection of particles, obeying the generalized A_n stat…
Given a finite quiver, its double may be viewed as its non-commutative "cotangent" space, and hence is a non-commutative symplectic space. Crawley-Boevey, Etingof and Ginzburg constructed the non-commutative reduction of this space while Schedler constructed its quantization. We show that the non-commutative quantization and reduction commute with each other. Via the quantum and classical trace maps, such a commutativity induces the commutativity of the quantization and reduction on the space of quiver representations.
We study the large N asymptotics of the Brownian motions on the orthogonal, unitary and symplectic groups, extend the convergence in non-commutative distribution originally obtained by Biane for the unitary Brownian motion to the orthogonal and symplectic cases, and derive explicit estimates for the speed of convergence in non-commutative distribution of arbitrary words in independent Brownian motions. Using these results, we construct and study the large N limit of the Yang-Mills measure on the Euclidean plane with orthogonal, unitary and symplectic structure groups. We prove that each Wilson…
The noncommutativity of a four-dimensional phase space is introduced from a purely symplectic point of view. We show that there is always a coordinate map to locally eliminate the gauge fluctuations inducing the deformation of the symplectic structure. This uses the Moser's lemma; a refined version of the celebrated Darboux theorem. We discuss the relation between the coordinates change arising from Moser's lemma and the Seiberg--Witten map. As illustration, we consider the quantum Hall systems on CP^2. We derive the action describing the electromagnetic interaction of Hall droplets. In partic…
Operating in the framework of `supmech' (a scheme of mechanics which aims at providing a concrete setting for the axiomatization of physics and probability theory as required in Hilbert's sixth problem; integrating noncommutative symplectic geometry and noncommutative probability in an algebraic setting, it associates, with every `experimentally accessible' system, a symplectic algebra and operates essentially as noncommutative Hamiltonian mechanics with some extra sophistication in the treatment of states) it is shown that interaction between systems can be consistently described only if eith…
This review deals with strongly disordered topological insulators and covers some recent applications of a well established analytic theory based on the methods of Non-Commutative Geometry (NCG) and developed for the Integer Quantum Hall-Effect. Our main goal is to exemplify how this theory can be used to define topological invariants in the presence of strong disorder, other than the Chern number, and to discuss the physical properties protected by these invariants. Working with two explicit 2-dimensional models, one for a Chern insulator and one for a Quantum spin-Hall insulator, we first gi…
Inspired by recent studies on string theory with non-geometric fluxes, we develop a differential geometry calculus combining usual diffeomorphisms with what we call beta-diffeomorphisms. This allows us to construct a manifestly bi-invariant Einstein-Hilbert type action for the graviton, the dilaton and a dynamical (quasi-)symplectic structure. The equations of motion of this symplectic gravity theory, further generalizations and the relation to the usual form of the string effective action are discussed. The Seiberg-Witten limit, known for open strings to relate commutative with non-commutativ…
We study the relation between a given set of equations of motion in configuration space and a Poisson bracket. A Poisson structure is consistent with the equations of motion if the symplectic form satisfy some consistency conditions. When the symplectic structure is commutative these conditions are the Helmholtz integrability equations for the nonrestricted inverse problem of the calculus of variations. We have found the corresponding consistency conditions for the symplectic noncommutative case.
The decomposition of the non-commutative Landau (NCL) system into two uncoupled one-dimensional chiral components, advocated by Alvarez, Gomis, Kamimura and Plyushchay [1], is generalized to nonvanishing electric fields. This allows us to discuss the main properties of the NCL problem including its exotic Newton-Hooke symmetry and its relation to the Hall effect. The "phase transition" when the magnetic field crosses a critical value determined by the non-commutative parameter is studied in detail.
Extending earlier work(*), we examine the deformation of the canonical symplectic structure in a cotangent bundle $T^\star(\Q)$ by additional terms implying the Poisson non-commutativity of both configuration and momentum variables. In this short note, we claim this can be done consistently when $\Q$ is a Lie group. -- (*) F.J.Vanhecke, C.Sigaud and A.R.da Silva, arXiv:math-phys/0502003(2005) and Braz.J.Phys.{\bf 36},no IB,194(2006)
Some aspects of the "exotic" particle, associated with the two-parameter central extension of the planar Galilei group are reviewed. A fundamental property is that it has non-commuting position coordinates. Other and generalized non-commutative models are also discussed. Minimal as well as anomalous coupling to an external electromagnetic field is presented. Supersymmetric extension is also considered. Exotic Galilean symmetry is also found in Moyal field theory. Similar equations arise for a semiclassical Bloch electron, used to explain the anomalous/spin/optical Hall effects.
We discuss the classical and quantum reduction to the space of physical degrees of freedom of Yang--Mills theory on a circle (so that space-time is a cylinder). Although the classical reduced phase space is finite-dimensional, the quantum reduction procedure is mathematically fascinating, involving firstly the Wiener measure on a loop group, secondly a generalization of the Cameron--Martin theorem to loop groups, and thirdly Hall's coherent states for compact Lie groups. Our approach is based on a quantum analogue of the classical Marsden--Weinstein symplectic reduction process.
Geometrical optics is extended so as to provide a model for spinning light rays via the coadjoint orbits of the Euclidean group characterized by color and spin. This leads to a theory of ``geometrical spinoptics'' in refractive media. Symplectic scattering yields generalized Snell-Descartes laws that include the recently discovered optical Hall effect.
The topological terms of the bulk effective action for the integer quantum Hall effect, capturing the dynamics of gauge and gravitational fluctuations, reveal a curiosity, namely, the Abelian potential for the magnetic field appears in a particular combination with the Abelian spin connection. This seems to hold for quantum Hall effect on complex projective spaces of arbitrary dimensions. An interpretation of this in terms of the algebra of symplectic transformations is given. This can also be viewed in terms of the metaplectic correction in geometric quantization.
