A simple algebraic method to obtain exact solutions to the scalar field equations in spatially flat FRW cosmology is derived. The field potential fuction is reduced to two terms which can be used to determine some characteristic inflationary variables. To demonstrate the method, exact solutions resembling typical potentials of general interest are worked out. Finally, it is shown that this method of solution is also applicable to a perfect fluid in the same metric, for a curvature k>=0 and fixed gamma.
We discuss scalar-tensor cosmology with an extra $R^{-1}$ correction by the Noether Symmetry Approach. The existence of such a symmetry selects the forms of the coupling $ω(ϕ)$, of the potential $V(ϕ)$ and allows to obtain physically interesting exact cosmological solutions.
In the framework of f(R) scalar-tensor cosmology, we use the Noether symmetry approach to find the cosmological models consistent with the Noether symmetry. We obtain the functions f(R) and H(a), or the corresponding differential equations, according to specific choices for the scalar field potential V(ϕ), the Brans-Dicke function ω(ϕ), some cosmological parameters, and the constants of motion.
The chaotic behavior in FRW cosmology with a scalar field is studied for scalar field potentials less steep than quadratic. We describe a transition to much stronger chaos for appropriate parameters of such potentials. The range of parameters which allows this transition is specified. The influence of ordinary matter on the chaotic properties of this model is also discussed.
Exact solutions construction in scalar fields cosmology is of growing interest. In this work we review the results which obtained with the help of one of the most effective method. Namely, the method of generating functions for exact solutions construction in the scalar field cosmology. We also included into debate the superpotential method which may be considered as the bridge to slow roll approximation equations. Basing on the review, we suggested classification for the generating functions and found connection for all of them with the superpotential.
In this work we extend and apply a previous proposal to study noncommutative cosmology to the FRW cosmological background coupled to a scalar field, this is done in classical and quantum scenarios. In both cases noncommutativity is introduced in the gravitational field as well as in the scalar field through a deformation of minisuperspace and are able to find exact solutions. Finally, the effects of noncommutativity on the classical evolution are analyzed.
We study the cosmological model based on Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with non-minimal coupling of a scalar field to a Gauss-Bonnet term in 4D Friedmann universe. We show how constructing the exact solutions by the method based on a confrontation of the Hubble parameter in the model under consideration with that in a standard scalar field inflationary cosmology.
Using canonical quantization of a flat FRW cosmological model containing a real scalar field $ϕ$ endowed with a scalar potential $V(ϕ)$, we are able to obtain exact and semiclassical solutions of the so called Wheeler-DeWitt equation for a particular family of scalar potentials. Some features of the solutions and their classical limit are discussed.
We investigated the effects of bulk scalar field in the braneworld cosmological scenario. The Friedmann equations and acceleration condition in presence of the bulk scalar field for a zero tension brane and cosmological constant are studied. In DGP model the effective Einstein equation on the brane is obtained with bulk scalar field. The rescaled bulk scalar field on the brane in the DGP model behaves as an effective four dimensional field, thus standard type cosmology is recovered. In present study of the DGP model, the late-time accelerating phase of the universe can be explained .
Intrinsic time-dependent invariants are constructed for classical, flat, homogeneous, anisotropic cosmology with a massless scalar material source. Invariance under the time reparameterization-induced canonical symmetry group is displayed explicitly.
The new classes of homogeneous cosmological models for the scalar fields are build in the context of Lyra's geometry. The different types of exact solution for the model are obtained by applying two procedures, viz the generating function method and the first order formalism.
The present study investigates the nature of the field potential via new technique known as reconstruction method for the scalar field potentials. The key point of this technique is the assumption that Hubble parameter is dependent on the scalar field. We consider Bianchi type I universe in the gravitational framework of scalar-tensor gravity and explore the general form of the scalar field potential. In particular, this field potential is investigated for the matter contents like barotropic fluid, the cosmological constant and Chaplygin gas. It is concluded that for a given value of Hubble pa…
The Wheeler-DeWitt equation is solved for some scalar-tensor theories of gravitation in the case of homogeneous and isotropic cosmological models. We present general solutions corresponding to cosmological term: (i)λ(ϕ)=0$ and $(ii) λ(ϕ)=qϕ$.
The modified gravity with 1/R term (R being scalar curvature) and the Einstein-Hilbert term is studied by incorporating the phantom scalar field. A number of cosmological solutions are derived in the presence of the phantom field in the perfect fluid background. It is shown the current inflation obtained in the modified gravity is affected by the existence the phantom field.
We study the scalar modes of linear perturbations in loop quantum cosmology. This is done on a lattice where each cell is taken to be homogeneous and isotropic and can be quantized via standard homogeneous loop quantum cosmology techniques. The appropriate interactions between nearby cells are included in the Hamiltonian in order to obtain the correct physics. It is shown that the quantum theory is anomaly-free: the scalar and diffeomorphism constraint operators weakly commute with the Hamiltonian. Finally, the effective theory encoding the leading order quantum gravity corrections is derived …
We present a new approach for averaging in general relativity and cosmology. After a short review of the theory originally taken from the equivalence problem, we consider two ways how to deal with averaging based on Cartan scalars. We apply the theory for two different LTB models. In the first one, correlation term behaves as a positive cosmological constant, in the second example leading correlation term behaves like spatial curvature. We also show nontriviality of averaging for linearized monochromatic gravitational wave.
The influence of non-minimal coupling of a scalar field and the Gauss-Bonnet term on the inflationary stage of evolution of the universe is investigated in this paper. The main cosmological effects of such a coupling were considered. The deviations between Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet inflation and standard one based on Einstein gravity were determined. The corrections of a weak GB coupling preserving the type of the scalar field potential to standard inflationary models is considered as well.
We show that a recent letter claiming to present exact cosmological solutions in Brans-Dicke theory actually uses a flawed set of equations as the starting point for their analysis. The results presented in the letter are therefore not valid.
We investigate the cosmological model with complex scalar self-interacting inflaton field non-minimally coupled to gravity. The different geometries of the Euclidean classically forbidden regions are represented. The instanton solutions of the corresponding Euclidean equations of motion are found by numerical calculations. These solutions give a rather non-trivial examples of real tunnelling geometries. Possible interpretation of obtained results and their connection with inflationary cosmology is discussed.
We generalize the scalar tensor bigravity models to the non-minimal kinetic coupling scalar tensor bigravity models with two scalar fields whose kinetic terms are non-minimally coupled to two Einstein tensors constructed by two metrics. We show that a broad class of expanding universes can be explained by some solutions of this model. Then, we study the stability issue of the solutions by means of imposing homogeneous perturbation on the equations of motion and extract the stable solutions.

Three solutions of the Brans-Dicke theory with a self-interacting quartic potential and perfect fluid distribution are presented for a spatially flat geometry. The physical behavior is consistent with the recent cosmological scenario favored by type Ia supernova observations, indicating an accelerated expansion of the Universe.
We investigate the relative time scales associated with finite future cosmological singularities, especially those classified as Big Rip cosmologies, and the maximum predictability time of a coupled FRW-KG scalar cosmology with chaotic regimes. Our approach is to show that by starting with a FRW-KG scalar cosmology with a potential that admits an analytical solution resulting in a finite time future singularity there exists a Lyapunov time scale that is earlier than the formation of the singularity. For this singularity both the cosmological scale parameter a(t) and the Hubble parameter H(t) b…
Unlike Noether symmetry, a metric independent general conserved current exits for non-minimally coupled scalar-tensor theory of gravity, if the trace of the energy momentum tensor vanishes. Thus, in the context of cosmology, a symmetry exists both in the early vacuum and radiation dominated era. For slow roll, symmetry is sacrificed, but at the end of early inflation, such a symmetry leads to a Friedmann-like radiation era. Late time cosmic acceleration in the matter dominated era is realized in the absence of symmetry, in view of the same decayed and red-shifted scalar field. Thus, unificatio…
Based on the macroscopic equations of cosmological evolution obtained earlier by the Author, a closed system of macroscopic Einstein equations in the short-wave approximation for perturbations of the scalar Higgs and gravitational fields has been obtained and examined. The obtained exact solutions of macroscopic equations are determined by three microscopic parameters, depending on the spectrum of perturbations.
In this paper we investigate the accelerating and decelerating cosmological models with non-linear spinor fields and non-minimal interaction of $f(R)$ gravity with a scalar field. We combine two different approaches to the description of dark energy: modified gravity theory and introduction of the additional fields. Solutions for the FRW universe with power-law scale factor are reconstructed for the model under consideration with specific choice for scalar and spinor potentials. It is explained the role of scalar and spinor potentials as well as f(R) function for emergence of accelerating or d…
We present a simple, exact and self-consistent cosmology with a phenomenological model of quantum creation of radiation due to decay of the scalar field. The decay drives a non-isentropic inflationary epoch, which exits smoothly to the radiation era, without reheating. The initial vacuum for radiation is a regular Minkowski vacuum. The created radiation obeys standard thermodynamic laws, and the total entropy produced is consistent with the accepted value. We analyze the difference between the present model and a model with decaying cosmological constant previously considered.
The Multi-scalar field cosmology of the anisotropic Bianchi type I model is used in order to construct a family of potentials that are the best suited to model the inflation phenomenon. We employ the quantum potential approach to quantum mechanics due to Bohm in order to solve the corresponding Wheeler-DeWitt equation; which in turn enables us to restrict sensibly the aforementioned family of potentials. Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics (SUSYQM) is also employed in order to constrain the superpotential function, at the same time the tools from SUSY Quantum Mechanics are used to test the family…
A new thermodynamics of scalar-tensor gravity is applied to spatially homogeneous and isotropic cosmologies in this class of theories and tested on analytical solutions. A forever-expanding universe approaches the Einstein "state of equilibrium" with zero effective temperature at late times and departs from it near spacetime singularities. "Cooling" by expansion and "heating" by singularities compete near the Big Rip, where it is found that the effective temperature diverges in the case of a conformally coupled scalar field.
We study cosmology in scalar-tensor (Bergmann Wagoner) gravity, restricting the coupling function, $ω(ϕ)$ to be constant. Rather than specify the form of the cosmological function, $λ(ϕ)$, the scalar field is modelled as a function which decays to its present value $ϕ=1$. Solutions of the field equations are found for which $λ(ϕ)$ evolves from a large value (approximately 1) near the singularity to a small, non-zero value at later times, avoiding the problem of pre-inflationary collapse in standard general relativistic cosmology. Interpreting the model within the framework of Brans-Dicke theor…
We study an analytical solution to the Einstein's equations in 2+1-dimensions. The space-time is dynamical and has a line symmetry. The matter content is a minimally coupled, massless, scalar field. Depending on the value of certain parameters, this solution represents three distinct space-times. The first one is flat space-time. Then, we have a big bang model with a negative curvature scalar and a real scalar field. The last case is a big bang model with event horizons where the curvature scalar vanishes and the scalar field changes from real to purely imaginary.
We study the general properties of attractors in a cosmological model with tachyonic potential and a scalar field non-minimally coupled to matter. A general analytic formulation is given to derive fixed points with a discussion on their stability. We also check the consistency of the model by fitting it to the supernovae type Ia data.
We look for exact solutions in scalar field cosmology. To achieve this we use $f(R)$ modified gravity with a scalar field and do not specify the the form of the $f(R)$ function. In particular, we study Friedmann universe assuming that acceleration of the scalar curvature is negligible. We first present solutions for special cases and then the general solution. Using initial conditions which represent the universe at the present epoch, we evaluated the constants of integration. This allows for the comparison of the scale factor in the new solutions with that of the $ΛCDM$ solution, thereby affe…
In this paper within the scope of FRW cosmology for k = 0, \pm1 we study the dynamics of the universe for a cosmological model with a scalar field nonminimally coupled to matter. By best- fitting the model parameters with the observational data for the direct interaction between the dark sectors in the model we obtain observational constraints on cosmological parameters. The result shows that with the best fitted model parameters, only in flat universe, the phantom crossing occurs twice in the past and once in the future, whereas no crossing occurs for open and closed models of the universe.
Inhomogeneous multidimensional cosmological models with a higher dimensional space-time manifold M=M_0 x M_1 x ... M_n are investigated under dimensional reduction to tensor-multi-scalar theories. In the Einstein conformal frame, these theories take the shape of a flat sigma-model. For the singular case where M_0 is 2-dimensional, the dimensional reduction to dilaton gravity is preformed with different distinguished representations of the action.
We investigate the phase space of a scalar field theory obtained by minisuperspace deformation. We consider quintessence or phantom scalar fields in the action which arise from minisuperspace deformation on the Einstein-Hilbert action. We use a modified Poisson Algebra where Poisson brackets are the $α$-deformed ones and are related to the Moyal-Weyl star product. We discuss early and late-time attractors, and we reconstruct the cosmological evolution. We show that the model can have $Λ$CDM model as a future attractor if we initially consider a massless scalar field without a cosmological cons…
We consider the spatially flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker space time in the teleparallel model of gravity and assume that the universe is filled nearly by cold dark matter and a nonminimally coupled scalar field with a power-law potential as dark energy. We investigate the possibility that the universe undergoes a transition from quintessence to phantom phase. An analytical solution for the scalar field is obtained and necessary conditions required for such a transition are discussed.
A short review of recent results on exact solutions in multidimensional cosmology and overview of reports at workshop in MG8 (held by the author) are presented.
The important role of scalar field in cosmology was noticed by a number of authors. Due to the fact that the scalar field possesses zero spin, it was basically considered in isotropic cosmological models. If considered in an anisotropic model, the linear scalar field does not lead to isotropization of expansion process. One needs to introduce scalar field with nonlinear potential for the isotropization process to take place. In this paper the general form of scalar field potentials leading to the asymptotic isotropization in case of Bianchi type-I cosmological model, and inflationary regime in…
In this paper, we introduce a non-minimally conformally coupled scalar field and dark matter in F(T) cosmology and study their dynamics. We investigate the stability and phase space behavior of the parameters of the scalar field by choosing an exponential potential and cosmologically viable form of F(T). We found that the dynamical system of equations admits two unstable critical points; thus no attractor solutions exist in this cosmology. Furthermore, taking into account the scalar field mimicking quintessence and phantom energy, we discuss the corresponding cosmic evolution for both small an…
The Wheeler-DeWitt equation is solved for the Bergmann-Wagoner scalar-tensor gravitational theory in the case of Friedmann-Robertson- Walker cosmological model. We present solutions for several cosmological functions: i) λ(ϕ)=0, ii) λ(ϕ)=3Λ_0ϕand iii) a more complex λ(ϕ), that depends on the choice of the coupling function, considering closed, flat and hyperbolic Friedmann universes (k=1, 0, -1). In the first two cases we show particular quantum wormhole solutions. Also, classical solutions are considered for some scalar-tensor theories, and we study the third quantization of some minisuperspa…
Scalar-tensor theory has arbitrary functions of the scalar field in front of the geometric and scalar terms in the Lagrangain. The extent to which these arbitrary functions appear in the Wheeler-deWitt wavefunction of mini-super Robertson-Walker spacetimes is discussed. The function of the scalar field in front of the Einstein-Hilbert action allows a current to be constructed which suggests transfer from matter to geometry of aspects of the wavefunction.
This is in fact an Erratum to the paper published in Physics Letters A221 (1996) 359. The reduced-phase-space discussion remains essentially valid in spite of the fact that many equations are changed. However, the analysis based on the Wheeler-DeWitt equation should be very different from the one given in the paper, which must be disregarded.
We consider multiple scalar fields coupled to gravity, with special attention given to two-field theories. First, the conditions necessary for these theories to meet solar system tests are given. Next, we investigate the cosmological evolution of the fields to see if these conditions can be met. Solutions are found in the dust era, as well as radiation and cosmological constant dominated epochs. The possibility of inflation in these theories is discussed. While power law growth of the scalar fields can yield the appropriate conditions to meet solar system constraints, these solutions are unsta…
Using dynamical systems methods, we describe the evolution of a minimally coupled scalar field and a Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe in the context of general relativity, which is relevant for inflation and late-time quintessence eras. Focussing on the spatially flat case, we examine the geometrical structure of the phase space, locate the equilibrium points of the system (de Sitter spaces with a constant scalar field), study their stability through both a third-order perturbation analysis and Lyapunov functions, and discuss the late-time asymptotics. As we do not specify the scal…
We obtain a scaling relation for spherically symmetric k-essence scalar fields $ϕ(r,t)$ for an inhomogeneous cosmology with the Lemaitre-Tolman- Bondi (LTB) metric. We show that this scaling relation reduces to the known relation for a homogeneous cosmology when the LTB metric reduces to the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) metric under certain identifications of the metric functions. A k-essence lagrangian is set up and the Euler-Lagrangian equations solved assuming $ϕ(r,t)=ϕ_{1}(r) + ϕ_{2}(t)$. The solutions enable the LBT metric functions to be related to the fields. The LTB inhom…
Cosmological solutions of the Brans-Dicke theory are investigated by including a quantum effect coming from 1-loop correction of matter fields that couple to the scalar field. As the most serious result we face a cosmological ``constant'' in the original conformal frame which is shown to be ``physical'' after a careful analysis of the time variable employed in any of the conventional approaches. We find an ``attractor'' solution featuring no expansion during the radiation-dominated eras. To evade this unacceptable consequence, we suggest to modify one of the fundamental premises of the model, …
The existence of point symmetries in the cosmological field equations of generalized vacuum scalar--tensor theories is considered within the context of the spatially homogeneous cosmologies. It is found that such symmetries only occur in the Brans--Dicke theory when the dilaton field self--interacts. Moreover, the interaction potential of the dilaton must take the form of a cosmological constant. For the spatially flat, isotropic model, it is shown how this point symmetry may be employed to generate a discrete scale factor duality in the Brans--Dicke action.
We study the dynamics of a phantom scalar field dark energy interacting with dark matter in loop quantum cosmology (LQC). Two kinds of coupling of the form $α{ρ_m}{\dotϕ}$ (case I) and $3βH (ρ_ϕ+ρ_m)$ (case II) between the phantom energy and dark matter are examined with the potential for the phantom field taken to be exponential. For both kinds of interactions, we find that the future singularity appearing in the standard FRW cosmology can be avoided by loop quantum gravity effects. In case II, if the phantom field is initially rolling down the potential, the loop quantum effect has no influe…
We study the classical and quantum models of a scalar field Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmology with an eye to the issue of time problem in quantum cosmology. We introduce a canonical transformation on the scalar field sector of the action such that the momentum conjugate to the new canonical variable appears linearly in the transformed Hamiltonian. Using this canonical transformation, we show that, it may lead to the identification of a time parameter for the corresponding dynamical system. In the cases of flat, closed and open FRW universes the classical cosmological solutions are obt…
We study quantization ambiguities in loop quantum cosmology that arise for space-times with non-zero spatial curvature and anisotropies. Motivated by lessons from different possible loop quantizations of the closed Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker cosmology, we find that using open holonomies of the extrinsic curvature, which due to gauge-fixing can be treated as a connection, leads to the same quantum geometry effects that are found in spatially flat cosmologies. More specifically, in contrast to the quantization based on open holonomies of the Ashtekar-Barbero connection, the expansion an…
The paper deals with phantom scalar field cosmology in Einstein gravity. At first using Lie symmetry, the coupling function to the kinetic term and the potential function of the scalar field and the equation of state parameter of the matter field are determined and a simple solution is obtained. Subsequently, Noether symmetry is imposed on the Lagrangian of the system. The symmetry vector is obtained and the potential takes a very general form from which potential using Lie Symmetry can be obtained as a particular case. Then we choose a point transformation $(a,ϕ)\rightarrow(u,v)$ such that on…
We study relations between hydrodynamical (H) and scalar field (SF) models of the dark energy in the early Universe. Main attention is paid to SF described by the canonical Lagrangian within the homogeneous isotropic spatially flat cosmology. We analyze requirements that guarantee the same cosmological history for the SF and H-models at least for solutions with specially chosen initial conditions and we present a differential equation for the SF potential that ensures such a restricted equivalence of the SF and H-models. Also, we derived a condition that guarantees an approximate equivalence w…
In the Einstein-Cartan space $U_4$, an axial vector torsion together with a scalar field connected to a local scale factor have been considered. By combining two particular terms from the SO(4,1) Pontryagin density and then modifying it in a SO(3,1) invariant way, we get a Lagrangian density with Lagrange multipliers. Then under FRW-cosmological background, where the scalar field is connected to the source of gravitation, the Euler-Lagrange equations ultimately give the constancy of the gravitational constant together with only three kinds of energy densities representing mass, radiation and c…
