Periodic Orbits and Binary Collisions in the Classical Coulomb Three-Body Problem

In the helium case of the classical Coulomb three-body problem in two dimensions with zero angular momentum, we develop a procedure to find periodic orbits applying two symbolic dynamics for one-dimensional and planar problems. A sequence of periodic orbits are predicted and are actually found numerically. The results obtained here will be a cornerstone for finding the remaining periodic orbits, which needed for semiclassical applications such as periodic orbit quantization.

Dynamics of Coulombic and Gravitational Periodic Systems

We study the dynamics and the phase-space structures of Coulombic and self-gravitating versions of the classical one-dimensional 3-body system with periodic boundary conditions. We demonstrate that such a 3-body system may be reduced isomorphically to a spatially periodic system of a single particle experiencing a two-dimensional potential on a rhombic plane. From a unstable periodic orbit to Lyapunov exponent and macroscopic variable in a Hamiltonian lattice : Periodic orbit dependencies

We study which and how a periodic orbit in phase space links to both the largest Lyapunov exponent and the expectation values of macroscopic variables in a Hamiltonian system with many degrees of freedom. The model which we use in this paper is the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Using a method based on the modulational estimate of a periodic orbit, we predict the largest Lyapunov exponent and the expectation value of a macroscopic variable. Exact relations between homoclinic and periodic orbit actions in chaotic systems

Homoclinic and unstable periodic orbits in chaotic systems play central roles in various semiclassical sum rules. The interferences between terms are governed by the action functions and Maslov indices. Periodic orbit action correlations in the Baker map

Periodic orbit action correlations are studied for the piecewise linear, area-preserving Baker map. Semiclassical periodic orbit formulae together with universal spectral statistics in the corresponding quantum Baker map suggest the existence of universal periodic orbit correlations. The calculation of periodic orbit sums for the Baker map can be performed with the help of a Perron-Frobenius type operator. The Lyapunov exponents and the neighbourhood of periodic orbits

We show that the Lyapunov exponents of a periodic orbit can be easily obtained from the eigenvalues of the monodromy matrix. It turns out that the Lyapunov exponents of simply stable periodic orbits are all zero, simply unstable periodic orbits have only one positive Lyapunov exponent, doubly unstable periodic orbits have two different positive Lyapunov exponents and the two positive Lyapunov exponents of complex unstable periodic orbits are equal. Periodic orbits of the two fixed centers problem with a variational gravitational field

We prove the existence of periodic orbits of the two fixed centers problem bifurcating from the Kepler problem. We provide the analytical expressions of these periodic orbits when the mass parameter of the system is sufficiently small.
