We consider the effects of heavy Majorana neutrinos N with sub-TeV masses. We argue that the mere presence of these particles would be a signal of physics beyond the minimal seesaw mechanism and their interactions are, therefore, best described using an effective Lagrangian. We then consider the complete set of leading effective operators (up to dimension 6) involving the N and Standard Model fields and show that these interactions can be relatively easy to track at high-energy colliders. For example, we find that an exchange of a TeV-scale heavy vector field can yield thousands of characteristic same-sign lepton number violating l^+ l^+ j j events (j=light jet) at the LHC if m_N < 600 GeV, which can also have a distinctive forward-backward asymmetry signal; even the Tevatron has good prospects for this signature if m_N < 300 GeV.
The heavy singlet Majorana neutrinos are introduced to generate the neutrino mass in the so-called phenomenological type-I seesaw mechanism. The phenomena induced by the heavy Majorana neutrinos are important to search for new physics. In this paper, we explore the heavy Majorana neutrino production and decay at future $e^{-}p$ colliders. The corresponding cross sections via $W$ and photon fusion are predicted for different collider energies. Combined with the results of the heavy Majorana neutrino production via single $W$ exchange, this work can provide helpful information to search for heav…
The existence of Majorana neutrinos must lead to lepton-number violating processes, and the Majorana nature of neutrinos can only be experimentally verified via lepton-number violating processes. We propose a new approach to search for Majorana neutrinos at future electron-positron colliders by exploiting this feature. We investigate the $ΔL = 2$ like-sign dilepton production and find that lepton colliders with different center-of-mass energies have comparative advantages in resonant production of a Majorana neutrino in either light neutrino mass range or heavy mass range. At the future Circul…
A general feature of TeV-scale radiative seesaw models, in which tiny neutrino masses are generated via loop corrections, is an extended scalar (Higgs) sector. Another feature is the Majorana nature; e.g., introducing right-handed neutrinos with TeV-scale Majorana masses under the discrete symmetry, or otherwise introducing some lepton number violating interactions in the scalar sector. We study phenomenological aspects of these models at collider experiments. We find that, while properties of the extended Higgs sector of these models can be explored to some extent, the Majorana nature of the …
The nonzero neutrino mass can be a signal for new physics beyond the standard model. To explain the tiny neutrino mass, we can extend the standard model with right-handed Majorana neutrinos in a low-scale seesaw mechanism, while the CP violation effect can be induced due to the CP phase in the interference of heavy Majorana neutrinos. The existence of heavy Majorana neutrinos may lead to lepton number violation processes, which can be used as a probe to search for the signal of heavy Majorana neutrinos. In this paper, we focus on the CP violation effect related to two generations of heavy Majo…
We compare the prospects for observing theories with Majorana or Dirac gauginos at a future 100 TeV proton-proton collider. Calculating the expected discovery and exclusion regions, we find that for heavy gluino masses the squark discovery reach is significantly reduced in Dirac gluino models relative to the Majorana case. However, if the squark and gluino masses are close the reach is similar in both scenarios. We also consider the electroweak fine tuning of theories observable at such a collider, and the impact of existing constraints from flavour and CP violating observables. Models with Ma…
We study the possibility of future $e^{+}e^{-}$ colliders to disentangle different new physics contributions to the production of heavy sterile Majorana neutrinos in the lepton number violating channel $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow l^{+} l^{+}+ 4 jets$, with $l=e, μ, τ$. This is done investigating the final anti-tau polarization trails and initial beam polarization dependence of the signal on effective operators with distinct Dirac-Lorentz structure contributing to the Majorana neutrino production and decay, which parameterize new physics from a higher energy scale. We find both analyses could well d…
We investigate the signatures at the Large Hadron Collider of a minimal model where the dark matter particle is a Majorana fermion that couples to the Standard Model via one or several coloured mediators. We emphasize the importance of the production channel of coloured scalars through the exchange of a dark matter particle in the t-channel, and perform a dedicated analysis of searches for jets and missing energy for this model. We find that the collider constraints are highly competitive compared to direct detection, and can even be considerably stronger over a wide range of parameters. We al…
Neutrinos in the Standard Model (SM) are considered to be massless which is in contradiction with the evidence from the neutrino oscillation data. These experiments established that at least two SM neutrinos have non-zero masses and that individual lepton numbers are violated. This is strong evidence of new physics beyond the SM that should be responsible for generating non zero mass for the neutrinos. In this work, we study the collider phenomenology of an extension of the SM where neutrinos are generated radiatively at three-loop. We show that the production of same-sign dilepton at lepton c…
We present experimental sensitivity for the production of a fourth-generation Majorana neutrino ($N$) via an s-channel $Z$ boson $Z\to NN \to W\ell W\ell$ at hadron colliders. This channel has not been studied for the Tevatron dataset with $\int \mathcal{L}=5 $ fb$^{-1}$, where we find that a single experiment could significantly extend current 95% C.L. mass lower limits, to $m_N>175$ GeV$/c^2$, or report $3σ$ evidence for the $N$ if $m_N<150$ GeV$/c^2$. With 5 fb$^{-1}$, a single LHC experiment at $\sqrt{s}=10$ TeV could expect t o set a 95% C.L. mass lower limits of $m_N>300$ GeV$/c^2$, or r…
A gauged U$(1)$ extension of the Standard Model (SM) is a simple and anomaly free framework where three generations of Majorana type right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) are introduced to generate light neutrino mass and flavor mixings through the seesaw mechanism. We investigate such models at different hadron and lepton colliders via $Z^\prime$ induced Majorana type RHNs pair production. We derive bounds on U$(1)$ gauge coupling $(g^\prime)$ comparing the model cross sections with experimentally observed data for different $Z^\prime$ mass $(M_{Z^\prime})$ and RHNs mass $(M_N)$. Using these limits w…
We discuss the possibility of observing multi-lepton signals at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) from the production and decay of heavy Standard Model (SM) singlet neutrinos added in extensions of SM to explain the observed light neutrino masses by seesaw mechanism. In particular, we analyze two `smoking gun' signals depending on the Dirac or Majorana nature of the heavy neutrino: (i) for Majorana case, the same-sign di-lepton signal which can be used as a probe of lepton-number violation, and (ii) for Dirac case, the tri-lepton signal which conserves lepton number but may violate lepton flavor…
We study the Lepton number violating like-sign dilepton processes $h_1 h_2 \to l^\pm l^{\prime \pm} jj X$ and $h_1 h_2 \to l^\pm l^{\prime \pm} W^\pm X$, mediated by heavy GeV scale Majorana neutrinos. We focus on the resonantly enhanced contributions with a nearly on-mass-shell Majorana neutrino in the s-channel. We study the constraints on like-sign dilepton production at the Tevatron and the LHC on the basis of the existing experimental limits on the masses of heavy neutrinos and their mixings $U_{αN}$ with $α= ν_{e}, ν_μ, ν_τ$. Special attention is paid to the constraints from neutrinoless…
Production of heavy Majorana neutrino $N_{e}$ predicted by left-right symmetric extension of the Standard Model at future {\normalsize TeV} scale $ep$ colliders have been considered. In order to estimate potential of $ep$ colliders for $N_{e}$ search we consider back-groundless process $e^{-}p\rightarrow e^{+}X$ which is consequence of Majorana nature of $N_{e}$. It is shown that {\normalsize linac-LHC} and {\normalsize linac-FCC} based $ep$ colliders will cover much wider regions of $N_{e}$ and $W_{R}$ masses than corresponding linear electron-positron colliders.
Right-handed (RH) Majorana neutrinos play a crucial role in understanding the origin of neutrino mass, the nature of dark matter and the mechanism of matter-antimatter asymmetry. In this work, we investigate the observability of heavy Majorana neutrino through the top quark neutrinoless double beta decay process $t \to b \ell^+ \ell^+ j j$ at hadron colliders. By performing detector level simulation, we demonstrate that our method can give stronger limits on the light-heavy neutrino mixing parameters $|V_{eN, μN}|$ in the mass range of 15 GeV $< m_N <$ 80 GeV than other existing collider bound…
In the conventional type-(I+II) seesaw model, the effective mass matrix of three known light neutrinos is given by M_nu = M_L - M_D M^{-1}_R M^T_D in the leading-order approximation. We propose an intriguing scenario, in which the structural cancellation condition M_D M^{-1}_R M^T_D = 0 is guaranteed by the A_4 x Z_2 flavor symmetry. As a consequence, neutrino masses are mainly generated by the Higgs triplet M_nu = M_L, while the neutrino mixing matrix is non-unitary and takes on the nearly tri-bimaximal pattern. A discriminating feature of this scenario from the pure type-II seesaw model is t…
A collider probe of the radiative seesaw models are considered. Two key ingredients of these models, the extended Higgs sector and the source of the Majorana mass, although these details differ model by model, would be studied at the TeV-scale electron-positron and electron-electron colliders. The searches and mass determinations in the inert doublet model, which is the extended Higgs sector of the Ma model, are summarized as an example.
We explore model-independent collider constraints on light Majorana dark matter particles. We find that colliders provide a complementary probe of WIMPs to direct detection, and give the strongest current constraints on light DM particles. Collider experiments can access interactions not probed by direct detection searches, and outperform direct detection experiments by about an order of magnitude for certain operators in a large part of parameter space. For operators which are suppresssed at low momentum transfer, collider searches have already placed constraints on such operators limiting th…
Neutrino masses could originate in seesaw models testable at colliders, with light mediators and an approximate lepton number symmetry. The minimal model of this type contains two quasi-degenerate Majorana fermions forming a pseudo-Dirac pair. An important question is to what extent future colliders will have sensitivity to the splitting between the Majorana components, since this quantity signals the breaking of lepton number and is connected to the light neutrino masses. We consider the production of these neutral heavy leptons at the ILC, where their displaced decays provide a golden signal…
The neutrino masses and flavor mixings, which are missing in the Standard Model (SM), can be naturally incorporated in the type-I seesaw extension of the SM with heavy Majorana neutrinos being singlet under the SM gauge group. If the heavy Majorana neutrinos are around the electroweak scale and their mixings with the SM neutrinos are sizable, they can be produced at high energy colliders, leaving characteristic signatures with lepton-number violations. Employing the general parametrization for the neutrino Dirac mass matrix in the minimal seesaw scenario, we perform a parameter scan and identi…
The extension of the standard model with new high-scale weakly coupled physics involving right-handed neutrinos in an effective field theory framework (SMNEFT) allows for a systematic study of heavy neutrinos phenomenology in current and future experiments. We exploit the outstanding angular resolution in future lepton colliders to study the sensitivity of forward-backward asymmetries to discover the possible single production of heavy Majorana neutrinos via $e^{+}e^{-} \to N ν$, followed by a purely leptonic decay $N \to μ^{-} μ^{+} ν$ or a semi-leptonic decay $N \to μ^{-} \mathrm{j} \mathrm{…
We discuss the prospects of studying lepton number violating processes in order to identify Majorana neutrinos from low scale seesaw mechanisms at lepton-proton colliders. In particular, we consider the scenarios of colliding electrons with LHC energy protons and, motivated by the efforts towards the construction of a muon collider, the prospects of muon-proton collisions. We find that present constraints on the mixing of the Majorana neutrinos still allow for a detectable signal at these kind of facilities given the smallness of the Standard Model background. We discuss possible cuts in order…
We perform a comprehensive and model-independent analysis for characterizing the spin and dynamical structure of the production of a non-diagonal pair of Majorana particles with different masses and arbitrary spins, $e^-e^+\to X_2 X_1$, followed by a sequential two-body decay, $X_2\to Z X_1$, of the heavier particle $X_2$ into a $Z$ gauge boson and the lighter particle $X_1$ escaping undetected at high-energy $e^+e^-$ colliders. Standard leptonic $Z$-boson decays, $Z\to \ell^-\ell^+$ with $\ell=e$ or $μ$, are employed for precisely diagnosing the $Z$ polarization influenced by the production a…
We discuss the potential to observe lepton number violation (LNV) in displaced vertex searches for heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) at future lepton colliders. Even though a direct detection of LNV is impossible for the dominant production channel because lepton number is carried away by an unobservable neutrino, there are several signatures of LNV that can be searched for. They include the angular distribution and spectrum of decay products as well as the HNL lifetime. We comment on the perspectives to observe LNV in realistic neutrino mass models and argue that the dichotomy of Dirac vs Majorana…
Vector boson fusion processes become increasingly more important at higher collider energies and for probing larger mass scales due to collinear logarithmic enhancements of the cross section. In this context, we revisit the production of a hypothetic heavy Majorana neutrino $(N)$ at hadron colliders. Particular attention is paid to the fusion process $Wγ\rightarrow N\ell^{\pm}$. We systematically categorize the contributions from an initial state photon in the elastic, inelastic, and deeply inelastic channels. Comparing with the leading channel via the Drell-Yan production $q \bar{q}'\rightarr…
Non-zero neutrino mass and dark matter cast a shadow over the success of the Standard Model (SM) of Particle Physics. The most straightforward extension of the SM to explain these two phenomena is the Scotogenic model, where the SM particle spectrum extends with three isospin singlet right-handed neutrinos and one doublet scalar while all of these being odd under $Z_2$ symmetry. In this work, we have considered the lightest right-handed neutrino as the dark matter candidate and freeze-out mechanism for producing observed dark matter relic density. The observed dark matter relic density, neutri…
Whether in nature exists Majorana neutrino is one of the most fundamental questions in physics. It is directly related to the violation of accidental $U(1)$-lepton number symmetry(LNV). Enormous efforts had been put into such test and among them, one conventional experiment is the neutrinoless double-beta decay ($0νββ$). On the other hand, there have been proposals of future electron-positron colliders such as International Linear Collider (ILC) for precision measurements of Higgs boson or new discovered beyond SM particles and it can potentially be converted into an electron-electron collider…
The radiative type-I seesaw has been already implemented to explain the lightness of Majorana neutrinos with both Majorana and Dirac heavy fermions, and the lightness of Dirac neutrinos with Dirac heavy fermions. In this work we present a minimal implementation of the radiative type-I seesaw with light Dirac neutrinos and heavy Majorana fermions. An inert doublet and a complex singlet scalar complete the dark sector which is protected by an Abelian fermiophobic gauge symmetry that also forbids tree level mass contributions for the full set of light neutrinos. A fermion vector-like extension of…
While gluinos and neutralinos are Majorana fermions in the MSSM, they can be Dirac fermion fields in extended supersymmetry models. The difference between the two cases manifests itself in production and decay processes at colliders. In this contribution, results are presented for how the Majorana or Dirac nature of gluinos and neutralinos can be extracted from di-lepton signals at the LHC.
Heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) are hypothetical particles able to explain several puzzles of fundamental physics, first and foremost - neutrino oscillations. Being sterile with respect to Standard Model interactions, these particles admit Majorana masses, allowing for violation of the total lepton number. Lepton number violating (LNV) processes thus become a key signature of HNLs, pursued by many experiments. In this work, we demonstrate that if HNLs are the sole origin of neutrino masses, destructive interference between Majorana states suppresses the same-sign di-lepton signal. In the phenomen…
We consider the minimum extension of the SM denominated 2HDM-III, in which,it new coupling constants to the new Higgs field in the Lagrangian of Yukawa are added furtheremore a Majorana mass in generated via See-Saw mechanism SSM-I thus, the effective masses of the Dirac and Majorana neutrinos will be sensitive to te VEV of Higgs doublets and to the structure of the Yukawa constants. Then we consider the MSS-III,in which a $Z_{2}$ symmetry is imposed to Lagrangian 2HDM-III to attach a doublet to the particles of the SM, and the other doublet to the triplet of fermions included in this mechanis…
The article investigates the possibility that right-handed neutrinos are Majorana particles embedded in an abelian multiplicative $U(1)_R$ factor, with the Lagrangian in the new factor being invariant under chiral gauge transformations. Majorana neutrinos couple to charged and neutral currents, producing new signatures to (anti)neutrino-electron elastic scattering and an additional term to coherent scattering of neutrinos on atomic nuclei. The model is ultraviolet complete and depends on one extra hypercharge correlating the reactions and providing upper bounds for the new coupling constant.
We study the effects produced by sterile Majorana neutrinos on the $ν_τ$ flux traversing the Earth, considering the interaction between the Majorana neutrinos and the standard matter as modeled by an effective theory. The surviving tau-neutrino flux is calculated using transport equations including Majorana neutrino production and decay. We compare our results with the pure Standard Model interactions, computing the surviving flux for different values of the effective lagrangian couplings, considering the detected flux by IceCube for an operation time of ten years, and Majorana neutrinos with …
After developing a general criterion for deciding which neutrino mass models belong to the category of inverse seesaw models, we apply it to obtain the Dirac analogue of the canonical Majorana inverse seesaw model. We then generalize the inverse seesaw model and obtain a class of inverse seesaw mechanisms both for Majorana and Dirac neutrinos. We further show that many of the models have double or multiple suppressions coming from tiny symmetry breaking "$μ$-terms". These models can be tested both in colliders and with the observation of lepton flavour violating processes.
