We define push-forwards for Witt groups of schemes along proper morphisms, using Grothendieck duality theory. This article is an application of results of the authors on tensor-triangulated closed categories to such structures on some derived categories of schemes together with classical derived functors.
We give a geometric setup in which the connecting homomorphism in the localization long exact sequence for Witt groups decomposes as the pull-back to the exceptional fiber of a suitable blow-up followed by a push-forward.
In this paper we derive a simple and useful combinatorial formula for the push-forwards of cohomology classes down projective towers, in terms of the push-forwards down the individual steps in the tower.
In this note we prove that the kernel of the push-forward homomorphism on $d$-cycles modulo rational equivalence, induced by the closed embedding of an ample divisor linearly equivalent to some multiple of the theta divisor inside the Jacobian variety $J(C)$ is trivial. Here $C$ is a smooth projective curve of genus $g$.
We generalize, explain and simplify Langer's results concerning Frobenius direct images of line bundles on quadrics, describing explicitly the decompositions of higher Frobenius push-forwards of arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay bundles into indecomposables, with an additional emphasis on the case of characteristic two. These results are applied to check which Frobenius push-forwards of the structure sheaf are tilting.
We introduce a homological Lefschetz conjecture on (rational) Chow groups, which can be deduced from some well known conjectures, and illustrate it by a series of key examples. We then prove the injectivity of the push-forward morphism on Chow groups, induced by the closed embedding of the Theta divisor in it's Jacobian $J(C)$. Here $C$ is a smooth irreducible complex projective curve.
The aim of this paper is to describe how to obtain residue-type formulas for push-forwards in equivariant cohomology, using the Jeffrey-Kirwan nonabelian localization theorem and the related result of Guillemin and Kalkman. This paper relates the description of equivariant push-forwards for homogeneous spaces of classical Lie groups with the action of the maximal torus with symplectic geometry, using the example of projective spaces and classical Grassmannians.
In this article, we study the commutativity between the pull-back and the push-forward functors on constructible functions in Cluckers--Loeser motivic integration.
We study residue formulas for push-forward in K-theory of homogeneous spaces. First we review formulas for classical groups, which we derive from a formula for the classical Grassmannian case. Next we consider the homogeneous spaces for G2. One of them embeds in the Grassmannian Gr(2,7). We find its fundamental class in the equivariant K-theory and obtain the residue formula for the push-forward. This formula is valid for G2/B as well.
In this text we prove that if an abelian variety $A$ admits of an embedding into the Jacobian of a smooth projective curve $C$, and if we consider $\Th_A$ to be the divisor $\Th_C\cap A$, where $\Th_C$ denotes the theta divisor of $J(C)$, then the embedding of $\Th_A$ into $A$ induces an injective push-forward homomorphism at the level of Chow groups. We show that this is the case for every principally polarized abelian varieties.
We introduce a derived enhancement of the moduli space of sections defined by Chang-Li, and we compute its tangent complex. Special cases of this moduli space include stable maps and stable quasi-maps. As an application, we prove that G-theoretic stable map and quasi-map invariants of projective spaces are equal.
We present a geometric construction of push-forward maps along projective morphisms for cohomology theories representable in the stable motivic homotopy category assuming that the element corresponding to the stable Hopf map is inverted in the coefficient ring of the theory. The construction is parallel to the one given by A. Nenashev for derived Witt groups. Along the way we introduce cohomology groups twisted by a formal difference of vector bundles as cohomology groups of a certain Thom space and compute twisted cohomology groups of projective spaces.
We study two kinds of push-forwards of $δ$-forms and define the pull-backs of $δ$-forms. As a generalization of Gubler-Künnemann, we prove the projection formula and the tropical Poincaré-Lelong formula. As an application, we follow the idea of Gubler-Künnemann and generalize the notion of $δ$-forms on algebraic varieties, this allows us to define the first Chern forms for any piecewise smooth metrics.
We define tautological Chow classes on the moduli space of curves with linear series. In the case where the forgetful morphism to the moduli space of curves has relative dimension zero, we describe the images of these classes in the Chow group of Mgbar. As an application, we compute the (virtual) slopes of several different classes of divisors on Mgbar.
For an ordinary abelian variety $X$, $F^e_*\mathcal{O}_X$ is decomposed into line bundles for every positive integer $e$. Conversely, if a smooth projective variety $X$ satisfies this property and its Kodaira dimension is non-negative, then $X$ is an ordinary abelian variety.
In this note, we give Gysin formulas for partial flag bundles for the classical groups. We then give Gysin formulas for Schubert varieties in Grassmann bundles, including isotropic ones. All these formulas are proved in a rather uniform way by using the step-by-step construction of flag bundles and the Gysin formula for a projective bundle. In this way we obtain a comprehensive list of new universal formulas.
In this paper, we prove that a smooth projective variety $X$ of characteristic $p>0$ is an ordinary abelian variety if and only if $K_X$ is pseudo-effective and $F^e_*\mathcal O_X$ splits into a direct sum of line bundles for an integer $e$ with $p^e>2$.
Let $p:F\to G$ be a morphism of stacks of positive \emph{virtual} relative dimension $k$ and let $γ\in H^k(F)$. We give sufficient conditions for $p_*γ\cdot[F]^{virt}$ to be a multiple of $[G]^{virt}$. We apply this result to show an analogue of the conservation of number for virtually smooth families. We show implications to Gromov-Witten invariants and give a new proof of a theorem of Marian, Oprea and Pandharipande which compares the virtual classes of moduli spaces of stable maps and moduli spaces of stable quotients.
We show how to equip the cone complexes of toroidal embeddings with additional structure that allows to define a balancing condition for weighted subcomplexes. We then proceed to develop the foundations of an intersection theory on cone complexes including push-forwards, intersections with tropical divisors, and rational equivalence. These constructions are shown to have an algebraic interpretation: Ulirsch's tropicalizations of subvarieties of toroidal embeddings carry natural multiplicities making them tropical cycles, and the induced tropicalization map for cycles respects push-forwards, in…
Let $X$ be a smooth projective curve of genus $g(X)\geq 1$ over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p>0$ and $F_{X/k}:X\rightarrow X^{(1)}$ be the relative Frobenius morphism. Let $\mathfrak{M}^{s(ss)}_X(r,d)$ (resp. $\mathfrak{M}^{s(ss)}_{X^{(1)}}(r\cdot p,d+r(p-1)(g-1))$) be the moduli space of (semi)-stable vector bundles of rank $r$ (resp. $r\cdot p$) and degree $d$ (resp. $d+r(p-1)(g-1)$) on $X$ (resp. $X^{(1)}$). We show that the set-theoretic map $S^{ss}_{\mathrm{Frob}}:\mathfrak{M}^{ss}_X(r,d)\rightarrow\mathfrak{M}^{ss}_{X^{(1)}}(r\cdot p,d+r(p-1)(g-1))$ induced by $[…
Building on the results of Deligne and Illusie on liftings to truncated Witt vectors, we give a criterion for non-liftability that involves only the dimension of certain cohomology groups of vector bundles arising from the Frobenius pushforward of the de Rham complex. Using vector bundle methods, we apply this to show that exceptional Enriques surfaces, a class introduced by Ekedahl and Shepherd-Barron, do not lift to truncated Witt vectors, yet the base of the miniversal formal deformation over the Witt vectors is regular. Using the classification of Bombieri and Mumford, we also show that bi…
We compute decomposition of Frobenius push-forwards of line bundles on quadrics into a direct sum of line bundles and spinor bundles. As an application we show when the Frobenius push-forward gives a tilting bundle and we apply it to study D-modules on quadrics.
For a toric Deligne-Mumford (DM) stack, we can consider a certain generalization of the Frobenius endomorphism. For such an endomorphism on a two-dimensional toric DM stack, we show that the push-forward of the structure sheaf generates the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on the toric DM stack. We also choose a full strong exceptional collection from the set of direct summands of the push-forward in several examples of two dimensional toric DM orbifolds.
In this note, we reconcile two approaches that have been used to construct stringy multiplications. The pushing forward after pulling back that has been used to give a global stringy extension of the functors K_0,K^{top},A^*,H^* [CR, FG, AGV, JKK2], and the pulling back after having pushed forward, which we have previously used in our (re)-construction program for G-Frobenius algebras, notably in considerations of singularities with symmetries and for symmetric products. A similar approach was also used by [CH] in their considerations of the Chen-Ruan product in a deRham setting for Abelian or…
In this note we investigate the connection between polylogarithms on curves and abelian schemes. The main result shows that the polylogarithm on the abelian scheme can be obtained as the push-forward of the polylogarithm on a suitable sub-curve. If the abelian scheme is the Jacobian of a smooth projective curve, this push-forward can also be written as a cup-product with the fundamental class of the curve.
We prove a formula for the push-forward class of Bott-Samelson resolutions in the algebraic cobordism ring of the flag bundle. We then provide a geometric interpretation to the double beta-polynomials of Fomin and Kirillov by specializing our formula to the case of connected K-theory.
A theorem of Batyrev's asserts that if two nonsingular varieties V,W are birational, and their canonical bundles agree after pull-back to a resolution of indeterminacies of a birational map between them, then the Betti numbers of V and W coincide. We prove that, in the same hypotheses, the total homology Chern classes of V and W are push-forwards of the same class in the Chow group of the resolution. For example, it follows that the push-forward of the total Chern class of a crepant resolution of a singular variety is independent of the resolution.
In this article we generalize the injectivity of the push-forward homomorphism at the level of Chow groups, induced by the closed embedding of $\Sym^m C$ into $\Sym^n C$ for $m\leq n$, where $C$ is a smooth projective curve, to symmetric powers of a smooth projective variety of higher dimension. We also prove the analog of this theorem for product of symmetric powers of smooth projective varieties. As an application we prove the injectivity of the push-forward homomorphism at the level of Chow groups, induced by the closed embedding of self product of theta divisor into the self product of the…
We consider the D-module defined as the push-forward of a rank one linear system on the complement of a central plane hyperplane arrangement, and calculate its decomposition series, using algebraic calculations in the Weyl algebra.
We give push-forward formulas for all flag bundles of types A, B, C, D. The formulas (and also the proofs) involve only Segre classes of the original vector bundles and characteristic classes of universal bundles. As an application, we provide new determinantal formulas.
We calculate the decomposition series of the D-module defined as the push-forward of a rank one linear system on the complement of a normal crossings hyperplane configuration and use data of a resolution of singularities to give a sufficient criterion of the irreducibility of the corresponding module in general.
