Higher level quadratically twisted Gauss sums and totally isotropic subspaces

We consider a generalized Gauss sum supported on matrices over a number field. We evaluate this Gauss sum and relate it to the number of totally isotropic subspaces of related quadratic spaces. Then we consider a further generalization of such a Gauss sum, realizing its value in terms of numbers of totally isotropic subspaces of related quadratic spaces.

Strongly Regular Cayley Graphs, Skew Hadamard Difference Sets, and Rationality of Relative Gauss Sums

In this paper, we give constructions of strongly regular Cayley graphs and skew Hadamard difference sets. Both constructions are based on choosing cyclotomic classes in finite fields, and our results generalize ten of the eleven sporadic examples of cyclotomic strongly regular graphs given by Schmidt and White [24] and several of subfield examples into infinite families. These infinite families of strongly regular graphs have new parameters. The main tools that we employed are relative Gauss sums instead of explicit evaluations of Gauss sums.

Higher order moments of generalized quadratic Gauss sums weighted by $L$-functions

The main purpose of this paper is to study higher order moments of the generalized quadratic Gauss sums weighted by $L$-functions using estimates for character sums and analytic methods. We find asymptotic formulas for three character sums which arise naturally in the study of higher order moments of the generalized quadratic Gauss sums. We then use these character sum estimates to find asymptotic formulas for the $\nth{6}$ and $\nth{8}$ order moments of the generalized quadratic Gauss sums weighted by $L$-functions. Our asymptotic formulas satisfy a conjecture of Wenpeng Zhang.

On the Probability of Relative Primality in the Gaussian Integers

This paper studies the interplay between probability, number theory, and geometry in the context of relatively prime integers in the ring of integers of a number field. In particular, probabilistic ideas are coupled together with integer lattices and the theory of zeta functions over number fields in order to show that $$P(\gcd(z_{1},z_{2})=1) = \frac{1}{ζ_{\Q(i)}(2)}$$ where $z_{1},z_{2} \in \mathbb{Z}[i]$ are randomly chosen and $ζ_{\Q(i)}(s)$ is the Dedekind zeta function over the Gaussian integers. Higher Gauss sums of modular categories

The definitions of the $n^{th}$ Gauss sum and the associated $n^{th}$ central charge are introduced for premodular categories $\mathcal{C}$ and $n\in\mathbb{Z}$. We first derive an expression of the $n^{th}$ Gauss sum of a modular category $\mathcal{C}$, for any integer $n$ coprime to the order of the T-matrix of $\mathcal{C}$, in terms of the first Gauss sum, the global dimension, the twist and their Galois conjugates.
