We first review the $L^2$ bilinear generalizations of the $L^4$ estimate of Strichartz for solutions of the homogeneous 3D wave equation, and give a short proof based solely on an estimate for the volume of intersection of two thickened spheres. We then go on to prove a number of new results, the main theme being how additional, anisotropic Fourier restrictions influence the estimates. Moreover, we prove some refinements which are able to simultaneously detect both concentrations and nonconcentrations in Fourier space.
A bilinear estimate in terms of Bourgain spaces associated with a linearised Kadomtsev-Petviashvili-type equation on the three-dimensional torus is shown. As a consequence, time localized linear and bilinear space time estimates for this equation are obtained. Applications to the local and global well-posedness of dispersion generalised KP-II equations are discussed. Especially it is proved that the periodic boundary value problem for the original KP-II equation is locally well-posed for data in the anisotropic Sobolev spaces $H^s_xH^{\e}_y(\T^3)$, if $s \ge \frac12$ and $\e > 0$.
We study bilinear $L^2$ Fourier restriction estimates which are related to the 2d wave equation in the sense that we restrict to subsets of thickened null cones. In an earlier paper we studied the corresponding 3d problem, obtaining several refinements of the Klainerman-Machedon type estimates. The latter are bilinear generalizations of the $L^4$ estimate of Strichartz for the 3d wave equation. In 2d there is no $L^4$ estimate for solutions of the wave equation, but as we show here, one can nevertheless obtain $L^2$ bilinear estimates for thickened null cones, which can be viewed as analogues …
In this paper, our goal is to improve the local well-posedness theory for certain generalized Boussinesq equations by revisiting bilinear estimates related to the Schrödinger equation. Moreover, we propose a novel, automated procedure to handle the summation argument for these bounds.
In this paper, we initiate the study of global stability for anisotropic systems of quasilinear wave equations. Equations of this kind arise naturally in the study of crystal optics, and they exhibit birefringence. We introduce a physical space strategy based on bilinear energy estimates that allows us to prove decay for the nonlinear problem. This uses decay for the homogeneous wave equation as a black box. The proof also requires us to interface this strategy with the vector field method and take advantage of the scaling vector field. A careful analysis of the spacetime geometry of the inter…
Often considered in numerical simulations related to the control of quantum systems, the so-called monotonic schemes have not been so far much studied from the functional analysis point of view. Yet, these procedures provide an efficient constructive method for solving a certain class of optimal control problems. This paper aims both at extending the results already available about these algorithms in the finite dimensional case (i.e., the time-discretized case) and at completing those of the continuous case. This paper starts with some results about the regularity of a functional related to a…
In this paper we establish mapping properties of bilinear Coifman-Meyer multipliers acting on the product spaces $H^1(\mathbb{R}^n)\times\mathrm{bmo}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ and $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)\times\mathrm{bmo}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, with $1<p<\infty$. As application of these results, we obtain some related Kato-Ponce-type inequalities involving the endpoint space $\mathrm{bmo}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, and we also study the pointwise product of a function in $\mathrm{bmo}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ with functions in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^n)$, $h^1(\mathbb{R}^n)$ and $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$, with $1<p<\infty$.
We prove a sharp upper bound for the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of a class of nonlinear elliptic operators which includes the p-Laplace and the pseudo-p-Laplace operators. Moreover, we prove a stability result by means of a suitable isoperimetric deficity. Finally, we give a sharp lower bound for the anisotropic p-torsional rigidity.
We characterize the Wulff shape of an anisotropic norm in terms of solutions to overdetermined problems for the Finsler $p$-capacity of a convex set $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$, with $1<p<N$. In particular we show that if the Finsler $p$-capacitary potential $u$ associated to $Ω$ has two homothetic level sets then $Ω$ is Wulff shape. Moreover, we show that the concavity exponent of $u$ is $q=-(p-1)/(N-p)$ if and only if $Ω$ is Wulff shape.
We study optimal bilinear control problems for stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equations in both the mass subcritical and critical case. For general initial data of the minimal L2 regularity, we prove the existence and first order Lagrange condition of an open loop control. Furthermore, we obtain uniform estimates of (backward) stochastic solutions in new spaces of type U2 and V2, adapted to evolution operators related to linear Schrödinger equations with lower order perturbations. In particular, we obtain a new temporal regularity of rescaled (backward) stochastic solutions, which is the key…
We prove fractional Leibniz rules and related commutator estimates in the settings of weighted and variable Lebesgue spaces. Our main tools are uniform weighted estimates for sequences of square-function-type operators and a bilinear extrapolation theorem. We also give applications of the extrapolation theorem to the boundedness on variable Lebesgue spaces of certain bilinear multiplier operators and singular integrals.
We consider bilinear restriction estimates for wave-Schrödinger interactions and provided a sharp condition to ensure that the product belongs to $L^q_t L^r_x$ in the full bilinear range $\frac{2}{q} + \frac{d+1}{r} < d+1$, $1 \leqslant q, r \leqslant 2$. Moreover, we give a counter-example which shows that the bilinear restriction estimate can fail, even in the transverse setting. This failure is closely related to the lack of curvature of the cone. Finally we mention extensions of these estimates to adapted function spaces. In particular we give a general transference type principle for $U^2…
Let $p\in(0,1)$, $α:=1/p-1$ and, for any $τ\in [0,\infty)$, $Φ_{p}(τ):=τ/(1+τ^{1-p})$. Let $H^p(\mathbb R^n)$, $h^p(\mathbb R^n)$ and $Λ_{nα}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ be, respectively, the Hardy space, the local Hardy space and the inhomogeneous Lipschitz space on $\mathbb{R}^n$. In this article, applying the inhomogeneous renormalization of wavelets, the authors establish a bilinear decomposition for multiplications of elements in $h^p(\mathbb R^n)$ [or $H^p(\mathbb R^n)$] and $Λ_{nα}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, and prove that these bilinear decompositions are sharp in some sense. As applications, the authors also…
In this paper we generalize some classical estimates involving the torsional rigidity and the principal frequency of a convex domain to a class of functionals related to some anisotropic non linear operators.
We study the singular limit of a spatially inhomogeneous and anisotropic reaction-diffusion equation. We use a Finsler metric related to the anisotropic diffusion term and work in relative geometry. We prove a weak comparison principle and perform an analysis of both the generation and the motion of interfaces. The limit problem involves motion by anisotropic mean curvature. We also prove an optimal estimate of the thickness of the transition layer.
In this paper we prove Bourgain-Brezis-Mironescu's type results (cf. \cite{BBM2001}) (BBM for short) for an energy functional which is strongly related to the fractional anisotropic p-Laplacian. We also provide with the analogous of Maz'ya-Shaposhnikova (see \cite{MS}) type results for these energies and finally we apply these results to analyze the stability of solutions to anisotropic fractional $p-$laplacian equations.
In this paper we establish the best constant of an anisotropic Gagliardo-Nirenberg-type inequality related to the Benjamin-Ono-Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation. As an application of our results, we prove the uniform bound of solutions for such a equation in the energy space.
We continue our research on Fourier restriction for hyperbolic surfaces, by studying local perturbations of the hyperbolic paraboloid $z=xy$ which are of the form $z=xy+h(y),$ where $h(y)$ is a smooth function which is flat at the origin. The case of perturbations of finite type had already been handled before, but the flat case imposes several new obstacles. By means of a decomposition into intervals on which $|h'''|$ is of a fixed size $λ,$ we can apply methods devised in preceding papers, but since we loose control on higher order derivatives of $h$ we are forced to rework the bilinear meth…
