In integrable field theories the S-matrix is usually a product of a relatively simple matrix and a complicated scalar factor. We make an observation that in many relativistic integrable field theories the scalar factor can be expressed as a convolution of simple kernels appearing in the nested levels of the nested Bethe ansatz. We formulate a proposal, up to some discrete ambiguities, how to reconstruct the scalar factor from the nested Bethe equations and check it for several relativistic integrable field theories. We then apply this proposal to the AdS asymptotic Bethe ansatz and recover the dressing factor in the integral representation of Dorey, Hofman and Maldacena.
We compute the anomalous dimensions of field strength operators Tr F^L in N=4 SYM from an asymptotic nested Bethe ansatz to all-loop order. Starting from the exact solution of the one-loop problem at arbitrary L, we derive a single effective integral equation for the thermodynamic limit of these dimensions. We also include the recently proposed phase factor for the S-matrix of the planar AdS/CFT system. The terms in the effective equation corresponding to, respectively, the nesting and the dressing are structurally very similar. This hints at the physical origin of the dressing phase, which we…
Integrability is believed to underlie the AdS3/CFT2 correspondence with sixteen supercharges. We elucidate the role of massless modes within this integrable framework. Firstly, we find the dressing factors that enter the massless and mixed-mass worldsheet S matrix. Secondly, we derive a set of all-loop Bethe Equations for the closed strings, determine their symmetries and weak-coupling limit. Thirdly, we investigate the underlying Yangian symmetry in the massless sector and show that it fits into the general framework of Yangian integrability. In addition, we compare our S matrix in the near-r…
In this paper we study the function chi(x1,x2,g) that determines the dressing phase that appears in the all-loop Bethe Ansatz equations for the SL(2) sector of N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. First, we consider the coefficients c_{r,s}(g) of the expansion of chi(x1,x2,g) in inverse powers of x1, x2. We obtain an expression in terms of a single integral valid for all values of the coupling g. The expression is such that the small and large coupling expansion can be simply computed in agreement with the expected results. This proves the, up to now conjectured, equivalence of both expansions of the …
We prove the universality of the Hernandez-Lopez phase by deriving it from first principles. We find a very simple integral representation for the phase and discuss its possible origin from a nested Bethe ansatz structure. Hopefully, the same kind of derivation could be used to constrain higher orders of the full quantum dressing factor.
A general formalism for the study of excitations above equilibrium in Bethe ansatz solvable models is presented. Nonzero temperature expressions for dressed energy, momentum, spin and charge are obtained, and it is found that the dressed spin and charge are in general momentum dependent. For an electronic model one may only have spin-charge separation at zero temperature where the ground state is half-filled and has zero magnetisation. Finally, the excitations of the Hubbard-Shastry models are examined in detail.
We reformulate the nested coordinate Bethe ansatz in terms of coproducts of Yangian symmetry generators. This allows us to derive the nested Bethe equations for the bound state string S-matrices. We find that they coincide with the Bethe equations obtained from a fusion procedure. The bound state number dependence in the Bethe equations appears through the parameters x^{\pm} and the dressing phase only.
We develop the derivation we proposed in hep-th/0703177 of the dressing phase of the S-matrix in the AdS/CFT correspondence in the framework of the underlying bare integrable model. We elaborate the configuration of the Bethe roots describing the physical vacuum, which consists of a long Bethe string stretched along the imaginary axis and stacks distributed along the real axis. We determine the distribution of all Bethe roots in the thermodynamic limit. We then directly compute the scattering phase of the fundamental excitations over the physical vacuum and reproduce the BHL/BES dressing phase…
We derive the phase factor proposed by Beisert, Eden and Staudacher for the S-matrix of planar N=4 Super Yang-Mills, from the all-loop Bethe ansatz equations without the dressing factor. We identify a configuration of the Bethe roots, from which the closed integral formula of the phase factor is reproduced in the thermodynamic limit. This suggests that our configuration describes the ``physical vacuum'' in the sense that the dressing phase is nothing but the effective phase for the scattering of fundamental excitations above this vacuum, providing an interesting clue to the physical origin of …
We propose the exact S-matrix for the planar limit of the N=6 super Chern-Simons theory recently proposed by Aharony, Bergman, Jafferis, and Maldacena for the AdS_4/CFT_3 correspondence. Assuming SU(2|2) symmetry, factorizability and certain crossing-unitarity relations, we find the S-matrix including the dressing phase. We use this S-matrix to formulate the asymptotic Bethe ansatz. Our result for the Bethe-Yang equations and corresponding Bethe ansatz equations confirms the all-loop Bethe ansatz equations recently conjectured by Gromov and Vieira.
We prove that the validity of the recently proposed dressed, asymptotic Bethe ansatz for the planar AdS/CFT system is indeed limited at weak coupling by operator wrapping effects. This is done by comparing the Bethe ansatz predictions for the four-loop anomalous dimension of finite-spin twist-two operators to BFKL constraints from high-energy scattering amplitudes in N=4 gauge theory. We find disagreement, which means that the ansatz breaks down for length-two operators at four-loop order. Our method supplies precision tools for multiple all-loop tests of the veracity of any yet-to-be construc…
We first analyse the integrable scattering theory describing the massless excitations of $AdS_2 \times S^2 \times T^6$ superstrings in the relativistic limit. The matrix part of the S-matrix is obtained in the BMN limit from the conjectured exact expression, and compared with known S-matrices with N=1 supersymmetry. A dressing factor, yet unknown for the complete theory, is here constructed based on relativistic crossing symmetry. We derive a Bethe-ansatz condition by employing a transfer-matrix technique based on the so-called free-fermion condition. This is known to overcome the problem of l…

Recently two interesting conjectures about the string S-matrix on AdS_5 x S^5 have been made. First, assuming the existence of a Hopf algebra symmetry Janik derived a functional equation for the dressing factor of the quantum string Bethe ansatz. Second, Hernandez and Lopez proposed an explicit form of 1/\sqrtλcorrection to the dressing factor. In this note we show that in the strong coupling expansion Janik's equation is solved by the dressing factor up to the order of its validity. This observation provides a strong evidence in favor of a conjectured Hopf algebra symmetry for strings in AdS_…
We propose a number of modifications to the classical term in the dressing phase for integrable strings in AdS3 x S3 x S3 x S1, and check these against existing perturbative calculations, crossing symmetry, and the semiclassical limit of the Bethe equations. The principal change is that the phase for different masses should start with a term Q_1 Q_2, like the one-loop AdS3 dressing phase, rather than Q_2 Q_3 as for the original AdS5 AFS phase.
Using the S-matrix for the d(2,1;alpha)^2 symmetric spin-chain of AdS3/CFT2, we propose a new set of all-loop Bethe equations for the system. These equations differ from the ones previously found in the literature by the choice of relative grading between the two copies of the d(2,1;alpha) superalgebra, and involve four undetermined scalar factors that play the role of dressing phases. Imposing crossing symmetry and comparing with the near-BMN form of the S-matrix found in the literature, we find several novel features. In particular, the scalar factors must differ from the Beisert-Eden-Stauda…
A system of O(N)-matrix difference equations is solved by means of the off-shell version of the nested algebraic Bethe ansatz. In the nesting process a new object, the $Π$-matrix, is introduced to overcome the complexities of the O(N) group structure. The proof of the main theorem is presented in detail. In particular, the cancellation of all unwanted terms is shown explicitly. The highest weight property of the solutions is proved.
Motivated by the desire to relate Bethe ansatz equations for anomalous dimensions found on the gauge theory side of the AdS/CFT correspondence to superstring theory on AdS_5 x S5 we explore a connection between the asymptotic S-matrix that enters the Bethe ansatz and an effective two-dimensional quantum field theory. The latter generalizes the standard ``non-relativistic'' Landau-Lifshitz (LL) model describing low-energy modes of ferromagnetic Heisenberg spin chain and should be related to a limit of superstring effective action. We find the exact form of the quartic interaction terms in the g…
Moving from Beisert-Staudacher equations, the complete set of Asymptotic Bethe Ansatz equations and $S$-matrix for the excitations over the GKP vacuum is found. The resulting model on this new vacuum is an integrable spin chain of length $R=2\ln s$ ($s=$ spin) with particle rapidities as inhomogeneities, two (purely transmitting) defects and $SU(4)$ (residual R-)symmetry. The non-trivial dynamics of ${\cal N}=4$ SYM appears in elaborated dressing factors of the 2D two-particle scattering factors, all depending on the 'fundamental' one between two scalar excitations. From scattering factors we …
We bootstrap the all-loop dynamic S-matrix for the homogeneous psu(1,1|2)^2 spin-chain believed to correspond to the discretization of the massive modes of string theory on AdS_3 x S^3 x T^4. The S-matrix is the tensor product of two copies of the su(1|1)^2 invariant S-matrix constructed recently for the d(2,1;alpha)^2 chain, and depends on two antisymmetric dressing phases. We write down the crossing equations that these phases have to satisfy. Furthermore, we present the corresponding Bethe Ansatz, which differs from the one previously conjectured, and discuss how our construction matches se…
