We study an Anderson impurity embedded in a d-wave superconductor carrying a supercurrent. The low-energy impurity behavior is investigated by using the numerical renormalization group method developed for arbitrary electronic bath spectra. The results explicitly show that the local impurity state is completely screened upon the non-zero current intensity. The impurity quantum criticality is in accordance with the well-known Kosterlitz-Thouless transition.
Impurity nuclear spin relaxation is studied theoretically. A single impurity generates a bound state localized around the impurity atom in unconventional superconductors. With increasing impurity potential, the relaxation rate $T_1^{-1}$ is reduced by the impurity potential. However, it has a peak at low temperatures due to the impurity bound state. The peak disappears at non-impurity sites. The impurity site NMR measurement detecting a local electronic structure just on the impurity atom is very useful for identifying the unconventional pairing states.
A single impurity problem is investigated for multiband s-wave superconductors with different sign order parameters (+-s-wave superconductors) suggested in Fe-pnictide superconductors. Not only intraband but also interband scattering is considered at the impurity. The latter gives rise to impurity-induced local boundstates close to the impurity. We present an exact form of the energy of the local boundstates as a function of strength of the two types of impurity scattering. The essential role of the impurity is unchanged in finite number of impurities. The main conclusions for a single impurit…
To understand the impurity effect on Tc in FeAs superconductors, we analyze a simple two-band BCS model with repulsive interband interaction. The realized fully-gapped superconducting state with sign reversal, which is predicted by spin fluctuation theories in this compound, is suppressed by impurities due to the interband hopping of Cooper pairs, if the interband impurity scattering $I'$ is equal to the intraband one $I$. When $|I'/I| < 1$, in highly contrast, Tc is almost unchanged by strong impurity scattering since the interband scattering is almost prohibited by the multiple scattering ef…
We study the effects of nanoscale impurity structures on the local electronic structure of $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave superconductors. We show that the interplay between the momentum dependence of the superconducting gap, the geometry of the nanostructure and its orientation gives rise to a series of interesting quantum effects. Among these are the emergence of a zero bias conductance peak in the superconductor's density of states and the suppression of impurity states for certain nanostructures. The latter effect can be used to screen impurity resonances in the superconducting state.
We study the unconventional superconducting correlations caused by a single isolated magnetic impurity in a conventional s-wave superconductor. Due to the local breaking of time-reversal symmetry, the impurity induces unconventional superconductivity which is even in both space and spin variables but odd under time inversion. We derive an exact proportionality relation between the even-frequency component of the local electron density of states and the imaginary part of the odd-frequency local pairing function. By applying this relation to scanning tunneling microscopy spectra taken on top of …
We studied low-frequency spin dynamics near the impurity-induced superconductor-to-insulator transition for underdoped high-Tc superconductor YBa2(Cu1-xMx)4O8 (M=Ni, Zn) using the Cu nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spin-echo technique. We observed remarkable suppression of the normal-state pseudo spin-gap and a loss of Cu NQR spectrum intensity at low temperatures around the critical impurity concentration.
In this paper we study the effect of single non-magnetic impurity in two-band s-wave superconductors where the two s-wave order parameters have relative phase $δ\neq0$ between them. We show that in-gap bound states are always induced by non-magnetic impurities when $δ=π$ ($s_{\pm}$-wave superconductors). The bound state is a consequence of the topological nature of the corresponding Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation.
The sign-reversing fully gapped superconducting state, which is expected to be realized in oxypnictide superconductors, can be prominently affected by nonmagnetic impurities due to the interband scattering of Cooper pairs. We study this problem based on the isotropic two-band BCS model: In oxypnictide superconductors, the interband impurity scattering $I'$ is not equal to the intraband one $I$. In the Born scattering regime, the reduction in Tc is sizable and the impurity-induced density of states (DOS) is prominent if $I\sim I'$, due to the interband scattering. Although impurity-induced DOS …
We propose that impurity-induced electronic nematic state is realized above the orthorhombic structure transition temperature $T_S$ in iron-pnictide superconductors. In the presence of strong orbital fluctuations near $T_S$, it is theoretically revealed that a single impurity induces non-local orbital order with $C_2$-symmetry, consistently with recent STM/STS measurements. Each impurity-induced $C_2$ orbital order aligns along a-axis by applying tiny uniaxial pressure along b-axis. In this impurity-induced nematic phase, the resistivity shows sizable in-plane anisotropy ($ρ_b/ρ_a \sim 2$) eve…
A Josephson junction consisting of an Anderson impurity weakly coupled with two-band and single-band superconductors exposes a time reversal breaking ground state when the coupling between the two bands exceeds a certain threshold. The critical regime occurs around local moment formation. This indicates a fundamental and distinct role of strong correlations: Driving a system into a time reversal breaking ground state. One of the observable consequences is that the impurity magnetization in this phase is reduced.
We review recent developments in our understanding of how impurities influence the electronic states in the bulk of superconductors. Our focus is on the quasi-localized states in the vicinity of impurity sites in conventional and unconventional superconductors and our goal is to provide a unified framework for their description. The non-magnetic impurity resonances in unconventional superconductors are directly related to the Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states around magnetic impurities in conventional s-wave systems. We review the physics behind these states, including quantum phase transition between s…
We study the effect of strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) on bound states induced by impurities in superconductors. The presence of spin-orbit coupling breaks the $\mathbb{SU}(2)$-spin symmetry and causes the superconducting order parameter to have generically both singlet (s-wave) and triplet (p-wave) components. We find that in the presence of SOC the spectrum of Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) states is qualitatively different in s-wave and p-wave superconductor, a fact that can be used to identify the superconducting pairing symmetry of the host system. We also predict that in the presence of SOC the…
Local magnetic properties around a nonmagnetic impurity are investigated in high-Tc cuprate superconductors. We consider a model two-dimensional d-wave superconductor with strong antiferromagnetic (AF) spin fluctuations and calculate the spin susceptibility around the impurity. We show that the uniform susceptibility, which is usually suppressed in spin-singlet superconductivity, is enhanced at low temperatures around the impurity when the impurity scattering is in the unitarity limit. This anomalous behavior is more remarkable when the impurity potential is extended spatially and the AF spin …
We predict a resonance impurity state generated by the substitution of one Cu atom with a nonmagnetic atom, such as Zn, in the pseudogap state of a high-T_c superconductor. The precise microscopic origin of the pseudogap is not important for this state to be formed, in particular this resonance will be present even in the absence of superconducting fluctuations in the normal state. In the presence of superconducting fluctuations, we predict the existence of a counterpart impurity peak on a symmetric bias. The nature of impurity resonance is similar to the previously studied resonance in the d-…
Nonmagnetic impurity effect was studied on the n-type Fe-based superconductor BaFe1.87Co0.13As2 (Tc = 25 K) by a successful Zn substitution for Fe up to 7 at.%. Magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, specific heat, and Hall coefficient measurements indicated that Tc linearly decreases with the Zn concentration and disappears at 7 at.%. The result is quantitatively comparable with what was observed for YBCO, while it disagrees with a recent report for the p-type Ba0.5K0.5Fe2As2. Fragile SC against a nonmagnetic impurity was first confirmed for the n-type 122 Fe-based superconductor.
Present-day angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) has offered a tremendous advance in the understanding of electron energy spectra in cuprate superconductors and some related compounds. However, in high magnetic field, magnetic quantum oscillations at low temperatures indicate the existence of small electron (hole) Fermi pockets seemingly missing in ARPES of hole (electron) doped cuprates. Here ARPES and quantum oscillations are reconciled in the framework of an impurity band in the charge-transfer Mott-Hubbard insulator.
We obtain general expressions for the residual density of states, electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity for non-unitary superconductors due to impurity scattering. We apply the results to the so-called `B phase' of PrOs4Sb12, which we describe using a non-unitary gap function derived from symmetry considerations. The conductivity tensor has inequivalent diagonal components due to off-axis nodal positions which may be detectable in experiments.
We discuss the universal theory of localized impurities in the paramagnetic state of 2D antiferromagnets where the spin gap is assumed to be significantly smaller than a typical exchange energy. We study the impurity spin susceptibility near the host quantum transition from a gapped paramagnet to a Neel state, and we compute the impurity-induced damping of the spin-1 mode of the gapped antiferromagnet. Under suitable conditions our results apply also to d-wave superconductors.
We investigate the impurity resonant state induced by non-magnetic impurities in d-wave cuprate superconductors in two different impurity models: (i) in a pure potential scattering model within the T-matrix approach and (ii) in a Bose-Fermi Kondo model within the large-N formalism. We modify the superconducting host to resemble the nanoscale electronic inhomogeneities seen in the scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) spectra (i.e., the small- and large-gap domains) and study how this influences the impurity resonance. In the pure potential scattering model the resonant state is found to be a rat…
We study the impurity scattering on the $\pm$s-wave superconductor, with realistic parameters for the Fe-pnictide superconductors. Using $\mathcal{T}$-matrix method, generalized for the two bands, we found that impurity scattering of the unitary limit forms off-centered bound states inside of the superconducting gap, which modifies, surprisingly, the density of states (DOS) of a fully opened gap to a V-shaped one as in the case of a d-wave superconductor. This behavior provides coherent explanations to the several conflicting experimental issues of the Fe-pnictide superconductors: the V-shaped…
We investigate the effect of magnetic impurities on the local quasiparticle density of states (LDOS) in iron-based superconductors. Employing the two-orbital model where 3$d$ electron and hole conduction bands are hybridizing with the localized $f$-orbital of the impurity spin, we investigate how various symmetries of the superconducting gap and its nodal structure influence the quasiparticle excitations and impurity bound states. We show that the bound states behave qualitatively different for each symmetry. Most importantly we find that the impurity-induced bound states can be used to identi…
We study a Hubbard model with a strong onsite impurity potential based on an improved fluctuation-exchange (FLEX) approximation, which we call the GVI-FLEX method. We find that (i) both local and staggered susceptibilities are strongly enhanced around the impurity. By this reason, (ii) the quasiparticle lifetime as well as the local density of states (DOS) are strongly suppressed in a wide area around the impurity (like a Swiss cheese hole), which causes the ``huge residual resistivity'' beyond the s-wave unitary scattering value. These results by the GVI method naturally explains the various …
Motivated by the recent discovery of noncentrosymmetric superconductors, such as $CePt_{3}Si$, $CeRhSi_{3}$ and $CeIrSi_{3}$, we investigate theoretically the impurity resonance states with coexisting $s$- and p-wave pairing symmetries. Due to the nodal structure of the gap function, we find single nonmagnetic impurity-induced resonances appearing in the local density of state (LDOS). In particular, we analyze the evolution of the local density of states for coexisting isotropic s-wave and p-wave superconducting states and compare with that of anisotropic s-wave and p-wave symmetries of the su…
We report an impurity effect in the organic superconductor $κ$-(ET)$_2$Cu(NCS)$_2$ by substitution of the ET molecule with an analogue, bis(methyleneditio)tetrathiafulvalene (MT). The superconducting transition temperature decreases with increasing substitution. The in-plane magnetic penetration depth is enhanced with substitution, which is quantitatively attributed to the decrease in the in-plane mean free path. The enhancement of the penetration depth can also explain the reduction of the effective pinning in terms of the condensation energy.
Using the numerical renormalization group method, the effect due to a Kondo impurity in an $s$-wave superconductor is examined at finite temperature ($T$). The $T$-behaviors of the spectral function and the magnetic moment at the impurity site are calculated. At $T$=0, the spin due to the impurity is in singlet state when the ratio between the Kondo temperature $T_k$ and the superconducting gap $Δ$ is larger than 0.26. Otherwise, the spin of the impurity is in a doublet state. We show that the separation of the double Yu-Shiba-Rusinov peaks in the spectral function shrinks as $T$ increases if …
Impurity resonances observed by scanning tunneling spectroscopy in the superconducting state have been used to deduce properties of the underlying pure state. Here we study a longstanding puzzle associated with these measurements, the apparent extinction of these resonances for Ni and Zn impurities in large-gap regions of the inhomogeneous BSCCO superconductor. We calculate the effect of order parameter and hopping suppression near the impurity site, and find that these two effects are sufficient to explain the missing resonances in the case of Ni. There are several possible scenarios for the …
We study a model of a d-wave superconductor with strong potential scatterers in the presence of antiferromagnetic correlations and apply it to experimental nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) results on Zn impurities in the superconducting state of YBCO. We then focus on the contribution of impurity-induced paramagnetic moments, with Hubbard correlations in the host system accounted for in Hartree approximation. We show that local magnetism around individual impurities broadens the line, but quasiparticle interference between impurity states plays an important role in smearing out impurity satell…
Recent STM measurements have observed many inhomogeneous patterns of the local density of states on the surface of high-T_c cuprates. As a first step to study such disordered strong correlated systems, we use the BdG equation for the t-t'-t"-J model with an impurity. The impurity is taken into account by a local potential or local variation of the hopping/exchange terms. Strong correlation is treated by a Gutzwiller mean-field theory with local Gutzwiller factors and local chemical potentials. It turned out that the potential impurity scattering is greatly suppressed, while the local variation…
Nonmagnetic impurities in d-wave superconductors cause strong local suppressions of the order parameter. We investigate the observable effects of the scatterigng off such suppressions in bulk samples by treating the order parameter "hole" as a pointlike off-diagonal scatterer treated within a self-consistent t-matrix approximation. Strong scattering potentials lead to a finite-energy spectral feature in the d-wave "impurity band", the observable effects of which include enhanced low-temperature microwave power absorption and a stronger sensitivity of the London penetration depth to disorder th…
We present a method to compute the density of states induced by N non magnetic impurities in a d-wave superconductor, in the unitary limit of very strong scatering centers. For frequencies very small as compared to the superconducting gap ($ω\ll Δ_0$) the additional density of states has the leading divergence ${\displaystyle δρ(ω) \simeq n_i / [ | 2 ω| (\ln^2 |ω/Δ_0| + (π/2)^2)]}$. This result is non perturbative.
The quasiparticle resonant states around a single nonmagnetic impurity with unitary scattering in a d-wave superconductor is studied by solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations based on a t-J model. Both the spatial variation of the order parameter and the local density of states (LDOS) around the impurity have been investigated. We find: (i) A particle-hole symmetric system has a single symmetric zero-energy peak in the LDOS regardless of the size of the superconducting coherence length ξ_0; (ii) For the particle-hole asymmetric case, an asymmetric splitting of the zero-energy peak is intri…
Motivated by recent discoveries of novel superconductors such as Na$_x$CoO$_2\cdot y$H$_2$O and Sr$_2$RuO$_4$, we analysize features of quasi-particle scattering due to impurities and interfaces for possible gapful $d_{x^2-y^2}+id_{xy}$ and $p_x+ip_y$ Cooper pairing. A bound state appears near a local impurity, and a band of bound states form near an interface. We obtained analytically the bound state energy, and calculated the space and energy dependent local density of states resolvable by high-resolution scanning tunnelling microscopy. For comparison we also sketch results of impurity and s…
We show that an isolated impurity in a spin singlet d_{x2-y2} superconductor generates a d_{xy} order parameter with locally broken time-reversal symmetry. The origin of this effect is a coupling between the d_{x2-y2} and the d_{xy} order parameter induced by spin-orbit scattering off the impurity. The signature of locally broken time-reversal symmetry is an induced orbital charge current near the impurity, which generates a localized magnetic field in the vicinity of the impurity. We present a microscopic theory for the impurity induced d_{xy} component, discuss its spatial structure as well …
The effects of a non-magnetic Zn impurity substituting an in-plane Cu are studied by solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation self-consistently which is derived from the \ttju Hamiltonian with all the allowed order parameters included. The Zn impurity, modeled in terms of a potential scatterer in unitary limit, induces local staggered magnetic moments around itself, and the calculated NMR shifts from the induced moments are in agreement with the experimental Cu NMR spectra. We also note that the experimentally observed negative slope of the tunneling conductance can result from the next-neare…
The interplay of magnetic impurity and vortex in a topological superconductor is of fundamental interest with major implications for implementing quantum computation. There are multiple degrees of freedom interacting with the impurity in the system, including the Majorana zero mode (MZM), the Caroli de Gennes Matricon (CdGM) states, and the electron bulk states that form Cooper pairs, which makes the impurity pinned vortex state elusive to date in topological superconductors. Here, we present an accurate solution of the problem, based on a generalized mapping scheme and the density-matrix reno…
With the aim at understanding the non-monotonic $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$-wave gap, we analyze the local electronic structure near impurities in the electron-doped cuprate superconductors. We find that the local density of states near a non-magnetic impurity in the scenario of $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$-wave superconductivity with higher harmonics is qualitatively different from that obtained from the $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$-wave superconductivity coexisting with antiferromagnetic spin density wave order. We propose that spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy measurements can distinguish the two scenarios and …
In a recent Letter [PRL 103, 186402 (2009)], the energy band structure of Fe-As-based superconductors is fitted with a tight-binding model with two Fe ions per unit cell and two degenerate xz and yz orbitals per Fe ion. The author claims that the proposed model, which differs markedly from a model previously used by other authors for the same two orbitals in the same compounds, possesses the symmetry required to describe the Fe-As planes in iron-pnictide superconductors. In this comment we argue that this is not the case.
We have studied the effect of a single nonmagnetic impurity in the recently discovered (K,Tl)Fe$_x$Se$_2$ superconductors, within both a toy two-band model and a more realistic five-band model. We have found that, out of five types of pairing symmetry under consideration, only the $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave pairing gives rise to impurity resonance states. The intra-gap states have energies far away from the Fermi energy. The existence of these intra-gap states is robust against the presence or absence of inter-band scattering. However, the inter-band scattering does tune the relative distribution of l…
In this work, we investigate the local density of states (LDOS) near a magnetic impurity in single-layer FeSe superconductors. The two-orbital model with spin-orbit coupling proposed in Ref. [{\emph{Phys. Rev. Lett.} \textbf{119}, 267001 (2017)}] is used to describe the FeSe superconductor. In the strong coupling regime, two impurity resonance peaks appear with opposite resonance energies in the LDOS spectral function. For a strong spin-orbit coupling, the superconducting gap in this model is $d$-wave symmetric with nodes, the spatial distributions of the LDOS at the two resonance energies are…
We consider the superconducting state of $d+s$ symmetry with finite concentration of Anderson impurities in the limit $Δ_s/Δ_d \ll 1$. The model consists of a BCS-like term in the Hamiltonian and the Anderson impurity treated in the self-consistent large-$N$ mean field approximation. Increasing impurity concentration or lowering the ratio $Δ_s/Δ_d$ drives the system through a transition from a state with two sharp peaks at low energies and exponentially small density of states at the Fermi level to one with $N(0) \simeq (Δ_s/Δ_d)^2$. This transition is discontinuous if the energy of the impuri…
The {}^{17}O NMR spectra of Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O$_{8+δ}$ (Bi-2212) single crystals were measured in the temperature range from 4 K to 200 K and magnetic fields from 3 to 29 T, reported here principally at 8 T. The NMR linewidth of the oxygen in the CuO_{2} plane was found to be magnetically broadened with the temperature dependence of a Curie law where the Curie coefficient decreases with increased doping. This inhomogeneous magnetism is an impurity effect intrinsic to oxygen doping and persists unmodified into the superconducting state.
We study the impurity suppression of the critical temperature $T_c$ of the FeAs superconductors theoretically based on the the $\pm$s-wave pairing state of a two band model. The effects of non-magnetic and magnetic impurities are studied with the $\mathcal{T}$-matrix approximation, which can continuously treat impurity scattering from weak to strong coupling limit. We found that both magnetic and non-magnetic impurities suppress $T_c$ with a rate that is practically indistinguishable from the standard d-wave case despite a possibly large difference of the positive and negative s-wave order par…
We consider a model of an Anderson impurity embedded in a $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave superconducting state to describe the low-energy excitations of cuprate superconductors doped with a small amount of magnetic impurities. Due to the Dirac-like energy dispersion, a sharp localized resonance above the Fermi energy, showing a marginal Fermi liquid behavior ($ω\ln ω$ as $ω\to 0$) is predicted for the impurity states. The same logarithmic dependence of self-energy and a linear frequency dependence of the relaxation rate are also derived for the conduction electrons, characterizing a new universality class…
The $s_\pm$ and $s_{++}$ models for the superconducting state are subject of intense studies regarding Fe-based superconductors. Depending on the parameters, disorder may leave intact or suppress $T_c$ in these models. Here we study the special case of disorder with equal values of intra- and interband impurity potentials in the two-band $s_\pm$ and $s_{++}$ models. We show that this case can be considered as an isolated point and $T_c$ there has maximal damping for a wide range of parameters.
Josephson current for a system consisting of an Anderson impurity weakly coupled to two unconventional superconductors is studied and shown to be driven by a surface zero energy (mid-gap) bound-state. The repulsive Coulomb interaction in the dot can turn a $π$ junction into a 0-junction. This effect is more pronounced in p-wave superconductors while in high-temperature superconductors with $d_{x^2-y^2}$ symmetry it can exit for rather large artificial centers at which tunneling occurs within a finite region.
It has been observed that impurity doping and/or ion-beam-induced damage in high $T_{c}$ superconductors cause a metal-insulator transition and thereby suppress the critical temperature. Based on our recent theory of the weak localization effect on superconductivity, we examine the variation of $T_{c}$ with increasing of impurity concentration $\rm (x)$ in $\rm{La_{1.85}Sr_{0.15}Cu_{1-x}A_{x}O_{4}}$ systems, where A $=$ Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, or Ga. We find that the doping impurity decreases the scattering matrix elements for electron-electron attractions, such as $V_{nn'}=-V[1-{2\over πk_{F}\ell} ln…
We report muon-spin relaxation measurements of highly homogeneous samples of FeAs and FeAs2, both previously found as impurity phases in some samples of recently synthesized pnictide superconductors. We observe well defined muon precession in the FeAs sample with two precession frequencies of 38.2(3) and 22.7(9) MHz at 7.5 K, with the majority of the amplitude corresponding to the lower frequency component. In FeAs2 we confirm previous measurements showing that no long-ranged magnetic order occurs above 2 K and measure the muon spin relaxation rate, which increases on cooling. Our results excl…
We theoretically investigate intermodulation distortion in high-Tc superconductors. We study the effect of nonmagnetic impurities on the real and imaginary parts of nonlinear conductivity. The nonlinear conductivity is proportional to the inverse of temperature owing to the dependence of the damping effect on energy, which arises from the phase shift deviating from the unitary limit. It is shown that the final-states interaction makes the real part predominant over the imaginary part. These effects have not been included in previous theories based on the two-fluid model, enabling a consistent …
The variational approach of Gunnarsson and Schönhammer to the Anderson impurity model is generalized to study d-wave superconductors in the presence of dilute spin-1/2 impurities. We show that the local moment is screened when the hybridization exceeds a nonzero critical value at which the ground state changes from a spin doublet to a spin singlet. The electron spectral functions are calculated in both phases. We find that while a Kondo resonance develops above the Fermi level in the singlet phase, the spectral function exhibits a low-energy spectral peak below the Fermi level in the spin doub…
We present a systematic study of the impurity effect on Tc in Fe-based superconductors, assuming that the sign-reversal s-wave state due to inter-pocket repulsion ($s_\pm$-wave state) is realized. For this purpose, we introduce several realistic impurity models with non-local modifications of potentials and hopping integrals around the impurity site. When we use the impurity model parameters for 3d- and 4d-impurity atoms derived from the recent first principle study by Nakamura et al., we find that the $s_\pm$-wave state is very fragile against impurities: The superconductivity with $T_{c0}=30…
In a recent Letter Balatsky and Salkola made their conclusion about the absence of localization in disordered d-wave superconductors exploiting the idea that strongly overlapping impurity states formed a network capable to provide the transport. We present here the correct estimate of hopping matrix elements between two impurities which were the basic quantities for the subsequent consideration in the abovementioned Letter. We conclude, that the picture of the impurity-impurity potential acting only within the slowly broadening tails claimed by Balatsky and Salkola as well as all the physical …
Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) by providing images of the effects of individual zinc-impurities in cuprate superconductors with unprecedented atomic-resolution offers a stringent test to models of correlated fermions for high-temperature superconductors. Using a t-J model supplemented by Variational Monte Carlo many-body techniques, the spatial dependence of the hole density and of the valence bond and superconducting pairing amplitudes around the impurity are computed. A cross-shaped four-fold symmetric structure very similar to the observed STM observation is found, giving strong credit…
