In this paper we improve a result on the order of magnitude of certain cotangent sums associated to the Estermann and the Riemann zeta functions.
In this paper we extend a result on the asymptotics of moments of certain cotangent sums associated to the Estermann and Riemann zeta functions established in a previous paper for integer exponents to arbitrary positive real exponents.
The approximation properties of the trigonometric sums U_{n,p}^ψof a special type are investigated on the classes C^ψ_{β, \infty} of (ψ,β)-differentiable (in the sense of Stepanets) periodical functions. The solution of Kolmogorov-Nikol'skii problem in a sufficiently general case is found as a result of consistency between the parameters of approximating sums and approximated classes. It is shown that, in some important cases the sums under consideration provide higher order of approximation in the uniform metric on the classes C^ψ_{β, \infty} than Fourier sums, Zygmund sums and de la Valle Po…
By combining classical techniques together with two novel asymptotic identities contained in [FL], we analyse certain single sums of Riemann-zeta type. In addition, we analyse Euler-Zagier double exponential sums for particular values of $Re\{u\}$ and $Re\{v\}$ and for a variety of sets of summation, as well as particular cases of Mordell-Tornheim double sums. Some of these results are used in [F] where a novel approach to the Lindelöf hypothesis is presented.
The present article is devoted to some examples of functions whose arguments represented in terms of certain series of the Cantor type.

We consider the three conjectures stated in a 2003 paper of Wu, concerning the asymptotics of particular sums of products of binomials, powers and logarithms. These sums relate to the form of the regularised integrals used in loop regularisation. We show all three are true, extend them to more general powers and produce their full asymptotic series. We also extend a classical result to produce an exact formula for the sum in the last.
Many well-known positive linear operators (like Bernstein, Baskakov, Szász-Mirakjan) are constructed by using specific fundamental functions. The sums of the squared fundamental functions have been objects of study in some recent papers. We investigate the relationship between these sums and some special functions. Consequently, we get integral representations and upper bounds for the sums. Moreover, we show that they are solutions to suitable second order differential equations. In particular, we provide polynomial or rational solutions to some Heun equations.
We show that if $φ\colon \mathbb R\rightarrow\mathbb R$ is a continuous mapping and the set of nonlinearity of $φ$ has nonzero Lebesgue measure, then $φ$ maps bijectively a certain set that contains arbitrarily long arithmetic progressions onto a certain set with distinct sums of pairs.
An interplay between the sum of certain series related to Harmonic numbers and certain finite trigonometric sums is investigated. This allows us to express the sum of these series in terms of the considered trigonometric sums, and permits us to find sharp inequalities bounding these trigonometric sums. In particular, this answers positively an open problem of H. Chen (2010).
We improve a result of Bennett concerning certain sequences involving sums of powers of positive integers.
Let $α_{n1},\dots,α_{nn}$ be the zeros of the $n$th Bessel polynomial $y_n(z)$ and let $a_{nk}=1-α_{nk}/2$, $b_{nk}=1+α_{nk}/2$ $(k=1,\dots,n)$. We propose the new formula \[z f'(z)\approx \sum_{k=1}^n \big(f(a_{nk} z)-f(b_{nk} z)\big)\] for numerical differentiation of analytic functions $f(z)=\sum_0^\infty f_m z^m$. This formula is exact for all polynomials of degree at most $2n$. We find the sharp order of nonlocal estimate of the corresponding remainder for the case when all $|f_m|\le 1$. The estimate shows a high rate of convergence of the differentiating sums to $zf'(z)$ on compact subse…
It is shown how sums of squares of real valued functions can be used to give new proofs of the reality of the zeros of the Bessel functions $J_α(z)$ when $α\ge -1,$ confluent hypergeometric functions ${}_0F_1(c\/; z)$ when $c>0$ or $0>c>-1$, Laguerre polynomials $L_n^α(z)$ when $α\ge -2,$ and Jacobi polynomials $P_n^{(α,β)}(z)$ when $α\ge -1$ and $ β\ge -1.$ Besides yielding new inequalities for $|F(z)|^2,$ where $F(z)$ is one of these functions, the derived identities lead to inequalities for $\partial |F(z)|^2/\partial y$ and $\partial ^2 |F(z)|^2/\partial y^2,$ which also give new proofs of…
We study certain sequences involving sums of powers of positive integers and in connection with this, we give examples to show that power majorization does not imply majorization.
Historically, the polylogarithm has attracted specialists and non-specialists alike with its lovely evaluations. Much the same can be said for Euler sums (or multiple harmonic sums), which, within the past decade, have arisen in combinatorics, knot theory and high-energy physics. More recently, we have been forced to consider multidimensional extensions encompassing the classical polylogarithm, Euler sums, and the Riemann zeta function. Here, we provide a general framework within which previously isolated results can now be properly understood. Applying the theory developed herein, we prove se…
