We calculate some finite and infinite sums containing the digamma function in closed-form. For this purpose, we differentiate selected reduction formulas of the hypergeometric function with respect to the parameters applying some derivative formulas of the Pochhammer symbol. Also, we compare two different differentiation formulas of the generalized hypergeometric function with respect to the parameters. For some particular cases, we recover some results found in the literature. Finally, all the results have been numerically checked.
We obtained order estimations for the best uniform approximations by trigonometric polynomials and approximations by Fourier sums of classes of $2π$-periodic continuous functions, which $(ψ,β)$-derivatives $f_β^ψ$ belong to unit balls of spaces $L_{p}, 1\leq p<\infty$ in case at consequences $ψ(k)$ decrease to nought faster than any power function. We also established the analogical estimations in $L_{s}$-metric, $1<s\leq\infty$, for classes of the summable $(ψ,β)$-differentiable functions, such that $\parallel f_β^ψ\parallel_{1}\leq1$.
We examine convergent representations for the sum of Bessel functions \[\sum_{n=1}^\infty \frac{J_μ(na) J_ν(nb)}{n^α}\] for $μ$, $ν\geq0$ and positive values of $a$ and $b$. Such representations enable easy computation of the series in the limit $a, b\to0+$. Particular attention is given to logarithmic cases that occur both when $a=b$ and $a\neq b$ for certain values of $α$, $μ$ and $ν$. The series when the first Bessel function is replaced by the modified Bessel function $K_μ(na)$ is also investigated, as well as the series with two modified Bessel functions.
We consider some closed-form evaluations of certain infinite sums involving the Hurwitz zeta function $ζ(s,α)$ of the form \[\sum_{k=1}^\infty (\pm 1)^k k^m ζ(s,k),\] where $m$ is a non-negative integer. For the sums with $m=0$ and the argument $k$ in $ζ(s,k)$ replaced by $ka+b$, where $a$ and $b$ are positive parameters, we also obtain a transformation formula suitable for computation in the limit $a\to0$.
We show that if $φ\colon \mathbb R\rightarrow\mathbb R$ is a continuous mapping and the set of nonlinearity of $φ$ has nonzero Lebesgue measure, then $φ$ maps bijectively a certain set that contains arbitrarily long arithmetic progressions onto a certain set with distinct sums of pairs.
Translation of "Methodus succincta summas serierum infinitarum per formulas differentiales investigandi" (1780). Euler wants to represent some given series of functions S(x)=X(x)+X(x+1)+X(x+2)+etc. in a different way. He writes S as a series in derivatives of X with unknown coefficients. He makes a generating function V(z) out of these coefficients, which is the same as a generating function that involves the Bernoulli numbers.
Recently, several new results related to the evaluation of the series sum (-1)^n zeta(n)/(n+k) were published. In this short note we show that this series also possesses an interesting connection to the values of the zeta-function on the critical line and to the Euler constant.
We investigate several infinite product of cosines and find the closed form using the Fourier transform. The answers provide limiting distributions for some elementary probability experiments.
In this paper we derive many infinite families of explicit exact formulas involving either squares or triangular numbers, two of which generalize Jacobi's 4 and 8 squares identities to 4n^2 or 4n(n+1) squares, respectively, without using cusp forms. In fact, we similarly generalize to infinite families all of Jacobi's explicitly stated degree 2, 4, 6, 8 Lambert series expansions of classical theta functions. In addition, we extend Jacobi's special analysis of 2 squares, 2 triangles, 6 squares, 6 triangles to 12 squares, 12 triangles, 20 squares, 20 triangles, respectively. These results, depen…
