We present updated predictions for the total production cross section of top-quark pairs at the Tevatron and at the LHC, and, at the LHC, of heavy-quark pairs with mass in the range 0.5-2 TeV. For t\bar{t} production at the LHC we also present results at \sqrt{S}= 10 TeV, in view of the expected accelerator conditions during the forthcoming 2008 run. Our results are accurate at the level of next-to-leading order in alpha_s, and of next-to-leading threshold logarithms (NLO+NLL). We adopt the most recent parametrizations of parton distribution functions, and compute the corresponding uncertainties. We study the dependence of the results on the top mass, and we assess the impact of missing higher-order corrections by independent variations of factorisation and renormalisation scales.
The central value and theoretical uncertainties on the cross section ratio sigma_W/sigma_Z at the Tevatron are evaluated using the NNLO calculations and the latest MSTW PDFs. The partial width, total width and branching ratios of the W boson in the Standard Model, in the light of the latest electroweak calculations, are also updated.
We present updated predictions for the total cross section for Higgs boson production through gluon fusion at hadron colliders. In addition to renormalization-group improvement at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, we incorporate the two-loop electroweak corrections, which leads to the most precise predictions at present. Numerical results are given for Higgs masses between 115 GeV and 200 GeV at the Tevatron with \sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV and the LHC with \sqrt{s}=7-14 TeV.
Following the nonrelativistic QCD factorization scheme, by taking latest available measurement on $χ_b(3P)$ into consideration, we present an updated study on the yield and polarization of $Υ(1S,2S,3S)$ hadroproduction, and the fractions of $χ_b(mP)$ feed-down in $Υ(nS)$ production at QCD next-to-leading order. In the fitting, three schemes are applied with different choice of $χ_b(mP)$ feed-down ratios and NRQCD factorization scale. The results can explain the measurements on yield very well as in our previous work. The polarization puzzle to $Υ(3S)$ is now solved by considering the $χ_b(3P)$…
We present updated predictions for the total cross section for Higgs boson production by gluon--gluon fusion in hadron collisions. Our calculation includes the most advanced theoretical information available at present for this observable: soft-gluon resummation up to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, the exact treatment of the bottom-quark contribution up to next-to-leading order, and two-loop electroweak effects. We adopt the most recent parametrization of parton distribution functions at next-to-next-to-leading order, and we evaluate the corresponding uncertainties. In compariso…
We propose an alternative interpretation of the top events discovered at the Tevatron in 1995. Given that the charge of the $b$ quark jet cannot be measured for the whole sample with certainty, the signal can be due to a quark of charge -4/3 at the reported mass, i.e. 174 GeV, while the top quark is actually heavier, say above 230 GeV. We point out in this paper that such a scenario is actually hinted at by the latest precision electroweak measurements of $Z$ decay. To rule out this possibility in the future, the $b$ quark jet charge analysis has to become definitive, or the single "top" produ…
Present data indicates that the gluino (if it exists) must be heavier than about 95~GeV. During the next few years as the Tevatron integrated luminosity increases, gluino searches will be able to probe the mass range between 100 and 200~GeV. For masses in this range, a variety of gluino decay modes can provide viable signatures for gluino detection. Apart from the classic missing transverse energy signal, the detection of high transverse momentum like-sign dileptons may be the cleanest signature for gluino production. Other signatures such as the production of a hard photon in the gluino casca…
Updated Standard Model Higgs boson search results from the Tevatron experiments are presented. We focus on the updated CDF MET+bb result, where a significant shift in observed limits is explained. For the Tevatron combinations, upper limits at 95% credibility level and best-fit values for the Higgs boson cross section times branching ratio are presented. We also place constraints on the Higgs couplings to fermions and electroweak vector bosons. All results are consistent with the existence of a Standard Model Higgs boson with a mass of 125 GeV/c2, and with the Standard-Model predictions associ…
We study the possibility of discovering or excluding a light top squark (stop) based on top quark decays in the t-tbar events produced at the Fermilab Tevatron. In particular, we consider the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with the sparticle spectrum m_{chi^+_1}+m_b, M_W+m_{chi^0_1}+m_b > m_{stop} > m_{chi^0_1}+m_c, where chi^0_1 is the lightest neutralino and chi^+_1 is the lightest chargino, so that t -> stop chi^0_1 and stop -> c chi^0_1. All other sparticle masses are assumed to be heavier than m_t. Such a spectrum seeks to explain the experimental values of alpha_s(M_Z^2), R_b and …
We examine the prospects of detecting the light Higgs h^0 of the Constrained MSSM at the Tevatron. To this end we explore the CMSSM parameter space with μ>0, using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo technique, and apply all relevant collider and cosmological constraints including their uncertainties, as well as those of the Standard Model parameters. Taking 50 GeV < m_{1/2}, m_0 < 4 TeV, |A_0| < 7 TeV and 2 < tan(beta) < 62 as flat priors and using the formalism of Bayesian statistics we find that the 68% posterior probability region for the h^0 mass lies between 115.4 GeV and 120.4 GeV. Otherwise, h^…
We present updated predictions for Higgs boson production at the Tevatron and the LHC and we review their corresponding uncertainties. We report on a study of the impact of QCD radiative corrections on the Higgs boson search at the Tevatron.
In extended Higgs models, the Higgs boson may decay into a pair of light CP-odd scalars, with distinctive collider signatures. We study the ensuing Higgs signals at the upgraded Tevatron, considering the subsequent decays of the scalars into pairs of gluons or photons. For CP-odd scalars lighter than a few GeV, the Higgs boson manifests itself as a diphoton resonance and can be discovered up to masses of a few hundred GeV. For heavier CP-odd scalars the reach extends at most up to $M_h\sim 120$ GeV. We also discuss the capabilities of the LHC and lepton colliders in these channels.
The single diffractive production of the standard model Higgs boson is computed using the diffractive factorization formalism, taking into account a parametrization for the Pomeron structure function provided by the H1 Collaboration. We compute the cross sections at next-to-leading order accuracy for the gluon fusion process, which includes QCD and electroweak corrections. The gap survival probability ($<\!|S|^2\!>$) is also introduced to account for the rescattering corrections due to spectator particles present in the interaction, and to this end we compare two different models for the survi…
Within a wide class of models, the LEP2 lower limit of 95 GeV on the chargino mass implies gluinos are heavier than $\sim$300 GeV. In this case electroweak $\tw_1\twb_1$ and $\tw_1\tz_2$ production are the dominant SUSY processes at the Tevatron, and the extensively examined isolated trilepton signal from $\tw_1\tz_2$ production assumes an even greater importance. We update our previous calculations of the SUSY reach of luminosity upgrades of the Fermilab Tevatron in this channel incorporating ({\it i}) decay matrix elements in the computation of the momenta of leptons from chargino and neutra…
We consider the transverse-momentum (q_T) distribution of Standard Model Higgs bosons produced by gluon fusion in hadron collisions. At small q_T (q_T<<m_H, m_H being the mass of the Higgs boson), we resum the logarithmically-enhanced contributions due to multiple soft-gluon emission to all order in QCD perturbation theory. At intermediate and large values of q_T (q_T <~m_H), we consistently combine resummation with the known fixed-order results. We use the most advanced perturbative information that is available at present: next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic resummation combined with the nex…
We report on progress in the determination of the unpolarised nucleon PDFs within the ABM global fit framework. The data used in the ABM analysis are updated including the charm-production and the high-Q2 neutral-current samples obtained at the HERA collider, as well as the LHC data on the differential Drell-Yan cross-sections. An updated set of the PDFs with improved experimental and theoretical accuracy at small x is presented. We find minimal impact of the t-quark production cross section measured at the Tevatron and the LHC on the gluon distribution and the value of the strong coupling con…
New gauge bosons with Standard Model-like couplings to leptons are constrained by collider searches to be heavier than approximately ~1 TeV. A Z' boson with suppressed couplings to leptons, however, could be much lighter and possess substantial couplings to Standard Model quarks. In this article, we consider a new leptophobic Z' gauge boson as a simple and well motivated extension of the Standard Model, and discuss several of its possible signatures at the Tevatron. We find that three of the recent anomalies reported from the Tevatron - in particular the top-quark forward-backward asymmetry an…
Both the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC have reported the observation of the particle of mass around 125GeV which is consistent to the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson, but with an excess of events beyond the SM expectation in the diphoton decay channel at each of them. There still remains room for a logical possibility that we are not seeing the SM Higgs but something else. Here we introduce the minimal dilaton model in which the LHC signals are explained by an extra singlet scalar of the mass around 125GeV that slightly mixes with the SM Higgs heavier than 600GeV. When this scalar has a…
We present numerical calculations of the production cross section of a heavy Z' resonance in hadron-hadron collisions with subsequent decay into top-antitop pairs. In particular, we consider the leptophobic topcolor Z' discussed under Model IV of hep-ph/9911288 which has predicted cross sections large enough to be experimentally accessible at the Fermilab Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. This article presents an updated calculation valid for the Tevatron and all proposed LHC collision energies. Cross sections are presented for various Z' widths, in p-pbar collisions at \sqrt{s}=…
We provide the most up-to-date predictions for the top-quark charge asymmetry A_C at the LHC with a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. Our result is accurate at the NNLO level in the strong interactions and at the complete-NLO level in both the strong and electroweak interactions. We present results for the inclusive A_C, several differential asymmetries as well as the P_{T,tt} and M_{tt} cumulative asymmetries. Similarly to the Tevatron forward-backward asymmetry A_FB, both NNLO QCD and NLO EW corrections to A_C are found to be significant. The inclusion of higher-order corrections reduces the r…
In a recent paper, we updated the theoretical predictions for the production cross sections of the Standard Model Higgs boson at the Tevatron and estimated the various uncertainties affecting these predictions. We found that there is a large theoretical uncertainty, of order 40%, on the cross section for the main production channel, gluon-gluon fusion into a Higgs boson. Since then, a note from the Higgs working groups of the CDF and D0 collaborations criticizing our modeling of the $gg\to H$ cross section has appeared. In this addendum, we answer to this criticism point by point and, in parti…
Novel contributions to the total inclusive cross section for Higgs-Strahlung in the Standard Model at hadron colliders are evaluated. Although formally of order $α_s^2$, they have not been taken into account in previous NNLO predictions. The terms under consideration are induced by Higgs radiation off top-quark loops and thus proportional to the top-quark Yukawa coupling. At the Tevatron, their effects to HW production are below 1% in the relevant Higgs mass range, while for HZ production, we find corrections between about 1% and 2%. At the LHC, the contribution of the newly evaluated terms to…
Aspects of a flavor-changing W' model with right-handed couplings are addressed in this paper in light of Tevatron and LHC data. Our fit to the Tevatron top-quark forward-backward asymmetry and the tt_bar inclusive cross section includes higher-order loop effects in the effective interaction. The higher order corrections change the best fit value of the W' effective coupling strength as a function of the W' mass. The consistency of the model is checked against the shape of the tt_bar invariant mass distribution. We use these updated W' parameters to compute the expected contributions from W't …
Results for b-quark production at hadron colliders, both current and proposed, are presented. Distributions in $p_t$ are presented for the TeVatron and SSC. Confirmation of agreement between the ${\cal O}(α_S^3)$ calculations and UA1 data is presented, and the discrepancy between the ${\cal O}(α_S^3)$ calculations and the CDF results is updated with the most recent data.
The $Wtb$ vertex structure and the search for new anomalous couplings is studied using top quark measurements obtained at the LHC, for a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. By combining the latest and most precise results on the single top quark production cross section and the measurements of the $W$-boson helicity fractions ($F_0$ and $F_L$), it is possible to set new limits, at 95% CL (confidence level), on the real and imaginary components of the new couplings. The combination of the LHC observables clearly improves the limits obtained when using the individual results alone. The updated measu…
We present an update of the Standard Model fit to electroweak precision data. We include newest experimental results on the top quark mass, the W mass and width, and the Higgs boson mass bounds from LEP, Tevatron and the LHC. We also include a new determination of the electromagnetic coupling strength at the Z pole. We find for the Higgs boson mass (91 +30 -23) GeV and (120 +12 -5) GeV when not including and including the direct Higgs searches, respectively. From the latter fit we indirectly determine the W mass to be (80.360 +0.014 -0.013) GeV. We exploit the data to determine experimental co…
We present a preliminary set of updated NLO parton distributions. For the first time we have a quantitative extraction of the strange quark and antiquark distributions and their uncertainties determined from CCFR and NuTeV dimuon cross sections. Additional jet data from HERA and the Tevatron improve our gluon extraction. Lepton asymmetry data and neutrino structure functions improve the flavour separation, particularly constraining the down quark valence distribution.
We explore the constraints on the parameter space of a Randall-Sundrum warped geometry scenario, where a radion field arises out of the attempt to stabilise the radius of the extra compact spacelike dimension, using the most recent data from higgs searches at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Tevatron. We calculate contributions from both the scalar mass eigenstates arising from radion-higgs kinetic mixing in all important search channels. The most important channel to be affected is the decay via WW*, where no invariant mass peak can discern the two distinct physical states. Improving u…
The invariant mass distribution of dijets produced in association with W bosons, recently observed by the CDF Collaboration at Tevatron, reveals an excess in the dijet mass range 120-160 GeV/c^2, 3σbeyond Standard Model expectations. We show that such an excess is a generic feature of low mass string theory, due to the production and decay of a leptophobic Z', a singlet partner of SU(3) gluons coupled primarily to the U(1) baryon number. In this framework, U(1) and SU(3) appear as subgroups of U(3) associated with open strings ending on a stack of 3 D-branes. In addition, a minimal model conta…
In the context of minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), we discuss the possibility of the lightest Higgs boson with mass $M_h = 98 $ GeV to be consistent with the $2.3σ$ excess observed at the LEP in the decay mode $e^+e^- \to Zh$, with $h \to b {\bar b}$. In the same region of the MSSM parameter space, the heavier Higgs boson $(H)$ with mass $M_H \sim 125 $ GeV is required to be consistent with the latest data on Higgs coupling measurements at the end of 7 + 8 TeV LHC run with $25{\rm fb}^{-1}$ of data. While scanning the MSSM parameter space, we impose constraints coming from flavour…
We study the transverse momentum ($Q_T$) distribution of an electro-weak vector boson produced via the Drell-Yan mechanism, in the context of joint resummation. This formalism allows for the simultaneous resummation of logarithmic contributions that are enhanced at small $Q_T$ and at partonic threshold. We extend joint resummation to next-to-next-to leading logarithmic accuracy and we present resummed and matched results for three different phenomenological setups. In particular, we study the production of a $Z$ boson at the Tevatron and at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), as well as the produ…
We discuss both MSSM and NMSSM scenarios in which the lightest Higgs boson with $m_h=98$~GeV is consistent with the small excess ($\sim 2.3 σ$) observed at the LEP in $e^+ e^-\rightarrow Zh$, with $h \rightarrow b {\bar b}$ process and the heavier Higgs boson of mass close to 125~GeV as the observed candidate of the SM Higgs like particle at the LHC. We show the allowed regions in the non-decoupling Higgs zone of MSSM parameter space which are consistent with several low energy constraints coming from heavy flavour physics, latest experimental data on Higgs signals and lower limit on superpart…
We present updated NLO predictions for the electroweak t-channel production of heavy quarks at the Tevatron and at the LHC. We consider production of single top and fourth generation t' starting from both 2 to 2 and 2 to 3 Born processes. Predictions for tb' and t'b' cross sections at NLO are also given for the first time. A thorough study of the theoretical uncertainties coming from parton distribution functions, renormalisation and factorisation scale dependence and heavy quark masses is performed.
We present updated predictions for single top-quark production in hadronic collisions. The analysis is based on next-to-leading order QCD calculations. The input parameters are fixed to recent measurements. We compare different PDF sets and investigate the related uncertainties. The impact of uncalculated higher orders is estimated using an independent variation of the renormalisation and factorisation scale. The theoretical predictions are compared with recent measurements from Tevatron and LHC. Furthermore, the cross section measurements are used to estimate the top-quark mass. To perform th…
Universal Extra Dimension (UED) models tend to favor a distinctively heavier Higgs mass than in the Standard Model (SM) and its supersymmetric extensions when the Kaluza-Klein (KK) scale is not much higher than the electroweak one, which we call the weak scale UED, in order to cancel the KK top contributions to the T-parameter. Such a heavy Higgs, whose production through the gluon fusion process is enhanced by the KK top loops, is fairly model independent prediction of the weak scale UED models regardless of the brane-localized mass structure at the ultraviolet cutoff scale. We study its clea…
Constraints on the non-standard top-gluon couplings composed of the chromomagnetic- and chromoelectric-dipole moments of the top quark are updated by combining the latest data of top-pair productions from the Tevatron, 7-TeV LHC, and 8-TeV LHC. We find that adding the recent 8-TeV data to the analysis is effective to get a stronger constraint on the chromoelectric-dipole moment than the one from the Tevatron and 7-TeV LHC alone. We also discuss how those constraints on the non-standard couplings could be further improved when 14-TeV LHC results become available in the near future.
Recent discoveries of the Xi_b, Sigma_b and Sigma_b^* baryons at the Tevatron are in good agreement with model-independent mass predictions made a decade ago based on a combined expansion in 1/N_c, 1/m_Q and SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking. Using the new experimental data as input, mass predictions for the undiscovered bottom baryons Xi_b^\prime, Xi_b^*, Omega_b and Omega_b^* and for many unmeasured bottom baryon mass splittings are updated. The observed ground state charm baryons exhibit the mass hierarchy previously predicted by the 1/N_c, 1/m_Q and SU(3) flavor breaking expansion.
We report on recent developments in the public computer code HiggsBounds, which confronts arbitrary Higgs sector predictions with 95% C.L. exclusion limits from Higgs searches at the LEP, Tevatron and LHC experiments. We discuss in detail the performance of the Standard Model (SM) likeness test as implemented in the latest version HiggsBounds-3.8.0, whose outcome decides whether a search for a SM Higgs boson can be applied to a model beyond the SM. Furthermore, we give a preview of features in the upcoming version HiggsBounds-4.0.0 and the new program HiggsSignals, which performs a chi-squared…
Neutralino and tau slepton pair production can naturally produce an excess of tau lepton pairs at the current LEP collider energies. We describe the constraints this has on the values of the mass parameters in the softly broken Supersymmetric Lagrangian, and consider the consequences for superpartner production at LEP and at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The pair production of the LSP and a heavier neutralino, followed by a 2-body decay to a tau slepton and tau lepton, is consistent with the present LEP data, predicts a chargino mass below 125 GeV, and provides an interesting Cold Dark Matte…
We present updated predictions for the total cross section of top-quark pair production at Tevatron and LHC. For the LHC we also provide results at sqrt(s) = 10 TeV, in view of the anticipated run in 2008 and quote numbers for the production of new heavy-quark pairs with mass in the range 0.5 - 2 TeV. Our two-loop results incorporate all logarithmically enhanced terms near threshold including Coulomb corrections as well as the exact dependence on the renormalization and factorization scale through next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD.
Sparticle landscapes in mSUGRA, in SUGRA models with nonuniversalities (NUSUGRA), and in D brane models are analyzed. The analysis exhibits the existence of Higgs Mass Patterns (HPs) (for $μ>0$) where the CP odd Higgs could be the next heavier particle beyond the LSP and sometimes even lighter than the LSP. It is shown that the Higgs production cross sections from the HPs are typically the largest enhancing the prospects for their detection at the LHC. Indeed it is seen that the recent Higgs production limits from CDF/DØ are beginning to put constraints on the HPs. It is also seen that the $B_…
We investigate the prospects for the discovery of a neutral Higgs boson produced with one bottom quark followed by Higgs decay into a pair of bottom quarks at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We work within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. The dominant physics background is calculated with realistic acceptance cuts and efficiencies including the production of $bb\bar{b}$, $\bar{b}b\bar{b}$, $jb\bar{b}$ ($j = g, q, \bar{q}$; $q = u, d, s, c$), $t\bar{t} \to b\bar{b}jj\ellν$, and $t\bar{t} \to b\bar{b}jjjj$. Promising results are…
The updated CDF measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry (FBA) in the top quark production p{bar p} -> t{bar t} at Tevatron (with the CMS energy 1.96 TeV) shows a deviation of 2*sigma from the value predicted by the Standard QCD Model. We present calculation of this quantity in the scenario where colored unparticle physics contributes to the s-channel of the process, and obtain the regions in the plane of the unparticle parameters lambda and dU which give the values of the FBA and of the total t{bar t} production cross section compatible with the present measurements.
An updated global analysis within the Standard Model (SM) of all relevant electroweak precision and Higgs boson search data is presented with special emphasis on the implications for the Higgs boson mass, M_H. Included are, in particular, the most recent results on the top quark and W boson masses, updated and significantly shifted constraints on the strong coupling constant, alpha_s, from tau decays and other low energy measurements such as from atomic parity violation and neutrino deep inelastic scattering. The latest results from searches for Higgs production and decay at the Tevatron are i…
The Higgs boson was postulated in 1964, and phenomenological studies of its possible production and decays started in the early 1970s, followed by studies of its possible production in electron-positron, antiproton-proton and proton-proton collisions, in particular. Until recently, the most sensitive searches for the Higgs boson were at LEP between 1989 and 2000, which were complemented by searches at the Fermilab Tevatron. Then the LHC experiments ATLAS and CMS entered the hunt, announcing on July 4, 2012 the discovery of a "Higgs-like" particle with a mass of about 125~GeV. This identificati…
Gluino-SUGRA ($\tilde{g}$SUGRA), which is an economical extension of the predictive mSUGRA, adopts much heavier gluino mass parameter than other gauginos mass parameters and universal scalar mass parameter at the unification scale. It can elegantly reconcile the experimental results on the Higgs boson mass, the muon $g-2$, the null results in search for supersymmetry at the LHC and the results from B-physics. In this work, we propose several new ways to generate large gaugino hierarchy (i.e. $M_3\gg M_1,M_2$) for $\tilde{g}$SUGRA model building and then discuss in detail the implications of th…

Recent developments in the public code $\texttt{FeynHiggs}$ for the prediction of the Standard Model-like Higgs mass in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model are presented. Improvements in the prediction based on an effective-field theory concern the cases of multi-scale hierarchies where the gluino is much heavier than the sfermions or where the additional Higgs bosons have masses between the electroweak and supersymmetry scales. The fixed-order part is improved by a re-implementation and extension of the two-loop corrections, now containing the contributions of orders $\big(α_t+α_b\big)\…
We present the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) discovery potential in the Z' sector of a U(1)_{B-L} enlarged Standard Model also encompassing three heavy Majorana neutrinos, for \sqrt{s}=7 centre-of-mass energy, considering both the Z'_{B-L}\rightarrow e^+e^- and Z'_{B-L}\rightarrow μ^+μ^- decay channels. Electrons provide a higher sensitivity to smaller couplings at small Z'_{B-L} boson masses than do muons. The run of the LHC at \sqrt{s}=7 TeV, assuming at most \int \mathcal{L} \sim 1 fb^{-1}, will be able to give similar results to those that will be available soon at the Tevatron in the lower …
Color-octet scalars, if present at the TeV scale, will be produced in abundance at the LHC. We discuss in some detail the phenomenology of scalars in the (8,2)_{1/2} representation, recently identified by Manohar and Wise as an addition to the standard-model Higgs sector consistent with the principle of minimal flavor violation. Couplings of this multiplet to the Higgs lift the mass degeneracy among its states, possibly allowing for two-body decays of a heavier colored scalar to a lighter one and a gauge boson. We perform a renormalization group analysis of these couplings and find that limits…
Adopting the complete $α_s^4$ approach of the perturbative QCD (pQCD) and updated parton distribution functions, we have estimated the hadronic production of $P$-wave excited $B_c$-states ($B_{cJ,L=1}^*$). In the estimate, special care on the relation of the production amplitude to the derivative of wave function at origin of the potential model is payed. For experimental references, main uncertainties are discussed, and the total cross sections and the distributions of the production with reasonable cuts at the energies of Tevatron and LHC are computed and presented. The results show that $P$…
We study the constraints from updated electroweak data on the three leptophobic Z' models, the $η$ model with an appropriate $U(1)'-U(1)_Y$ kinetic mixing, a Z' model motivated by the flipped SU(5) \times U(1) unification, and the phenomenological Z' model of Agashe, Graesser, and Hinchliffe. The $Z-Z'$ mixing effects are parametrized in terms of a positive contribution to the $T$ parameter, $T_{new}$, and the effective mass mixing parameter, $\barξ$. All the theoretical predictions for the $Z$ boson parameters, the $W$ boson mass and the observables in low-energy neutral current experiments a…
Present limits on the top mass from LEP1 and Tevatron point to a top quark that is considerably heavier than the $W$ vector boson in the standard model. Hence, e+e- colliders with \sqrt{s} \simeq 300 GeV (the c.m. energy foreseen at the first phase of the Next Linear e+e- Collider) could be well below the energy threshold for real top-pair production. We argue that, if this is the case, single top production through the process e+e- --> t\bar{b}W- (\bar{t}bW+), where t\bar{b} (\bar{t}b) are produced mainly by means of a virtual W, becomes the dominant top production mechanism. Total cross sect…
A low-energy supersymmetry scenario with a light gluino of mass 12 - 16 GeV and light sbottom (b1) of mass 2 - 6 GeV has been used to explain the apparent overproduction of b quarks at the Tevatron. In this scenario the other mass eigenstate of the sbottom, i.e. b2, is favored to be lighter than 180 GeV due to constraints from electroweak precision data. We survey its decay modes in this scenario and show that decay into a b quark and gluino should be dominant. Associated sbottom production at LEP via e+ e- -> Z* -> b1 b2* + b1* b2 is studied and we show that it is naturally a three-jet proces…
We present the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) discovery potential in the $Z'$ sector of a $U(1)_{B-L}$ enlarged Standard Model (that also includes three heavy Majorana neutrinos and an additional Higgs boson) for $\sqrt{s}=7$, 10 and 14 TeV centre-of-mass (CM) energies, considering both the $Z'_{B-L}\rightarrow e^+e^-$ and $Z'_{B-L}\rightarrow μ^+μ^-$ decay channels. The comparison of the (irreducible) backgrounds with the expected backgrounds for the D$Ø$ experiment at the Tevatron validates our simulation. We propose an alternative analysis that has the potential to improve the D$Ø$ sensitivity…
Hadron collider cross sections for tt~ production and di-lepton, single-lepton and all-jet decays with up to 2 additional jets are calculated using complete LO matrix elements with 6-, 7- and 8-particle final states. The fixed-width, complex-mass and overall-factor schemes (FWS, CMS & OFS) are employed and the quality of narrow-width and double-pole approximations (NWA & DPA) is investigated for inclusive production and suppressed backgrounds to new particle searches. NWA and DPA cross sections differ by 1% or less. The inclusion of sub- and non-resonant amplitudes effects a cross section incr…
We study LHC Higgs signatures from topflavor seesaw realization of electroweak symmetry breaking with a minimal gauge extension SU(2) x SU(2) x U(1). This elegant renormalizable construction singles out top quark sector (instead of all other light fermions) to join the new SU(2) gauge force. It predicts extra vector-like spectator quarks (T, B), new gauge bosons (W', Z'), and a pair of neutral Higgs bosons (h, H). We demonstrate that for the lighter Higgs boson h of mass 125GeV, this model predicts modified Higgs signal rates in h --> γγ, WW*, ZZ* channels via gluon fusions, in h --> tau tau m…
We show that, the result recently reported by the CDF collaboration showing an excess in the invariant mass distribution of jet pairs produced in association with a W-boson can be explained by a simple extension of the Standard Model (SM) with an additional quasi-inert Higgs doublet. The two additional neutral Higgs states H^0 and A^0 have a mass of about 150 GeV and decay into a pair of jets. W^\pm H^0/A^0 pairs are produced from the decay of the heavier charged Higgs boson H^\pm. Depending on the precise masses of the neutral and charged Higgs bosons, the model is shown to be in agreement wi…
Heavy quark production has been very well studied over the last years both theoretically and experimentally. Theory has been used to study heavy quark production in $e p$ collisions at HERA, in $pp$ collisions at Tevatron and at RHIC, in $pA$ and $dA$ collisions at RHIC and in $AA$ collisions at CERN-SPS and at RHIC. However, to the best of our knowledge, heavy quark production in $eA$ has received almost no attention. With the possible construction of a high energy electron-ion collider, updated estimates of heavy quark production are needed. We address the subject from the perspective of sat…
We compute the 3-loop O(αα_s) correction to the Higgs boson production cross section arising from light quarks using an effective theory approach. Our calculation probes the factorization of QCD and electroweak perturbative corrections to this process. We combine our results with the best current estimates for contributions from top and bottom quarks to derive an updated theoretical prediction for the Higgs boson production cross section in gluon fusion. With the use of the MSTW 2008 parton distribution functions that include the newest experimental data, our study results in cross sections ap…
