We present updated predictions for the total cross section of top-quark pair production at Tevatron and LHC. For the LHC we also provide results at sqrt(s) = 10 TeV, in view of the anticipated run in 2008 and quote numbers for the production of new heavy-quark pairs with mass in the range 0.5 - 2 TeV. Our two-loop results incorporate all logarithmically enhanced terms near threshold including Coulomb corrections as well as the exact dependence on the renormalization and factorization scale through next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD.
We review the recent theoretical progress in heavy quarkonium spectroscopy within the boundstate theory based on perturbative QCD. New microscopic pictures of the heavy quarkonium systems are obtained.
This paper is devoted to the calculation of the quark-gluon-Reggeized quark effective vertex in perturbative QCD in the next-to-leading order. The case of QCD with massive quarks is considered. This vertex has a number of applications, in particular, the result can be used for determination of the next-to-leading correction to the massive Reggeized quark trajectory.
In this talk, we give a short review of our recent works on studying the singly heavy baryon, doubly heavy baryon, and triply heavy baryon spectra from QCD sum rules.
Treating the bilocal quark-quark interaction kernel as an input parameter, the self-energy functions can be determined from the ``rainbow'' Dyson-Schwinger equation, which is obtained in the global color symmetry model. The tensor susceptibility of QCD vacuum can be calculated directly from these self-energy functions. The values we obtained are much smaller than the estimations from QCD sum rules and from chiral constituent quark model.
We investigate the quark-gluon mixed condensate based on an AdS/QCD model. Introducing a holographic field dual to the operator for the quark-gluon mixed condensate, we obtain the corresponding classical equation of motion. Taking the mixed condensate as an additional free parameter, we show that the present scheme reproduces very well experimental data. A fixed value of the mixed condensate is in good agreement with that of the QCD sum rules.
We introduce the quark virtuality distribution [$λ^{2}_{q}(x)$] as an extenson of the quark virtuality by using nonlocal rather than local quark vacuum condensates. Our results show that the quark virtuality distribution decreases gradually from a finite value to zero as $x$ increases. This clearly indicates that quarks are confined inside hadrons, whereas, as $x$ approaches zero quarks have a finite virtuality, which shows asymptotic freedom of quarks in QCD. The present predictions are important not only for studying the properties of QCD vacuum states, and non-perturbative QCD problems, but…
We investigate a possible use of direct photon production in association with a heavy quark to test different models of intrinsic heavy quark parton distribution function (PDF) at the Tevatron, at the large hadron collider (LHC) and at RHIC.
We argue that consistency of the combined heavy quark and chiral effective lagrangian requires the QCD scale which multiplies $1/M$ in the heavy quark expansion to be the chiral symmetry breaking scale, $Λ_{CSB}$, rather than the QCD scale, $Λ_{QCD}$. This means that either there is large uncertainty in the accuracy with which the heavy quark effective theory can be applied to $c$ quarks or the cutoff scale of the heavy quark chiral effective theory is lower than has been assumed.
Masses of the p-wave excited heavy baryons have been calculated to the Lambda_{QCD}/m_Q order using QCD sum rule method within the framework of heavy quark effective theory. Numerical results for kinetic energy lambda_1 and chromo-magnetic interaction lambda_2 are presented. The splitting between spin 1/2 and 3/2 doublet derived from our calculation is given, for which the agreement with the current experiment is desirable.
Matching of light-light quark currents in QCD with a heavy flavour and in the low-energy effective QCD is calculated in MSbar at two loops. Heavy-light HQET currents are similarly considered.
We present a method for determining a purely quark Lagrangian by mocking up the QCD partition function for large gauge couplings $g$. The resulting effective theory displays all the symmetries of low energy QCD and can be potentially used to explore hadron properties.
In this article, we study the ${3\over 2}^+$ heavy and doubly heavy baryon states $Ξ^*_{cc}$, $Ω^*_{cc}$, $Ξ^*_{bb}$, $Ω^*_{bb}$, $Σ_c^*$, $Ξ_c^*$, $Ω_c^*$, $Σ_b^*$, $Ξ_b^*$ and $Ω_b^*$ by subtracting the contributions from the corresponding ${3\over 2}^-$ heavy and doubly heavy baryon states with the QCD sum rules, and make reasonable predictions for their masses.
The superconducting pairing of quarks induced by instantons in QCD is studied by means of the functional integral method. The integral equation determining the critical temperature of the superconducting phase transition is established. It is shown that the Bose condensate of diquarks consists of color antitriplet $(\bar{3}) $ scalar diquarks
We present a detailed analysis of the use of heavy quark fragmentation into heavy hadrons for testing the heavy quark effective theory through comparison of the measured fragmentation parameters of the $c$ and $b$ quarks. Our analysis is entirely model independent. We interpret the known perturbative evolution in a way useful for exploiting heavy quark symmetry at low energy. We first show consistency with perturbative QCD scaling for measurements done solely with $c$ quarks. We then apply the perturbative analysis and the heavy quark expansion to relate measurements from ARGUS and LEP. We pla…
The radiative decays of heavy baryons and lowest three doublets of heavy mesons are studied with the light cone QCD sum rules in the leading order of heavy quark effective theory.
Using the analytic properties of two-point functions in QCD, as well as unitarity, bounds on the B meson form factor F(q^2) can be derived. Heavy quark spin symmetry, correctly taken into account, is shown to improve these bounds significantly.
Quarkonia -- mesons made of a heavy quark and anti-quark -- have been extensively studied experimentally. Theoretical calculations of quarkonia based on lattice QCD are possible with control over the systematic errors. The comparison with experimental measurements of the quarkonia spectra leads to determinations of Standard Model parameters: the strong coupling, $α_s$, and the heavy quark masses.
Straightforward use of AdS/CFT correspondence can give QCD with quarks in adjoint representations. Using an asymmetric orbifold approach we obtain nonsupersymmetric QCD with four quark flavors in fundamental representations of color.
We perform the first studies of various inter-quark potentials in SU(3)$_{\rm c}$ lattice QCD. From the accurate lattice calculation for more than 300 different patterns of three-quark (3Q) systems, we find that the static 3Q potential $V_{\rm 3Q}$ is well described by Y-Ansatz, i.e., the Coulomb plus Y-type linear potential. Quark confinement mechanism in baryons is also investigated in maximally-Abelian projected QCD. We next study the multi-quark potentials $V_{n{\rm Q}}$ ($n$=4,5) in SU(3)$_{\rm c}$ lattice QCD, and find that they are well described by the one-gluon-exchange Coulomb plus m…
Using a specific scheme of the QCD sum rules for heavy quarkonium in the leading approximation over the inverse heavy quark mass, one gets the estimate of the difference between the masses of the heavy meson and heavy quark $\bar Λ= 0.59\pm 0.02$ GeV.
In this paper the quark zero modes creation effect is studied in the context of the AdS/QCD approach. This effect is generated, in presence of instantons, by a new that can be added in the bulk.
The non-local vacuum condensates of QCD describe the distributions of quarks and gluons in the non-perturbative QCD vacuum. Physically, this means that vacuum quarks and gluons have nonzero mean-squared momentum, called virtuality. In this paper we study the quark virtuality which is given by the ratio of the local quark-gluon mixed vacuum condensate to the quark local vacuum condensate. The two vacuum condensates are obtained by solving Dyson-Schwinger Equations of a fully dressed quark propagator with an effective gluon propagator. Using our calculated condensates, we obtain the virtuality o…
We calculate fragmentation functions for a b-quark to fragment into color-singlet P-wave bound states $\bar c b$ in the Heavy Quark Effective Theory with the exact account of $O(1/m_b)$ corrections. We demonstrate an agreement of the obtained results with the corresponding calculations carried out in quantum chromodynamics.
One loop corrections to the coupling of the reggeized gluon to quarks are calculated in QCD. Combining this result with the known corrections to the gluon-gluon-reggeon vertex, we check the self-consistency of the representation of the amplitudes with gluon quantum numbers and negative signature in the $t$-channel in terms of Regge pole contribution.
We present the two-loop virtual QCD corrections to the production of heavy quarks in gluon fusion. The results are exact in the limit when all kinematical invariants are large compared to the mass of the heavy quark up to terms suppressed by powers of the heavy-quark mass. Our derivation uses a simple relation between massless and massive QCD scattering amplitudes as well as a direct calculation of the massive amplitude at two loops. The results presented here together with those obtained previously for quark-quark scattering form important parts of the next-to-next-to-leading order QCD correc…
Direct photon production in association with a heavy quark can serve as an excellent tool for the study of the heavy quark distributions. Currently it is believed that heavy quarks are produced radiatively inside the nucleon, and so there is no need to take into account heavy quark parameters inside global PDF analyses. Certain models taking into account the possibility of an intrinsic charm component exist. Here we present how these affect the γ+ c cross section. While at pA collisions the potential of this process to constrain the gluon nuclear PDF which is currently largely unconstrained is…
We compute the Noncommutative QCD (NCQCD) contributions to the three gluon decay modes of heavy quarkonia. For triplet quarkonia (ortho-quarkonia), the NCQCD correction to the QCD three gluon decay mode, like the standard model contribution, is infrared finite. In the case of singlet quarkonia (para-quarkonia), whose QCD three gluon decay mode has infrared singularities which are removed using one-loop corrections to the two gluon mode, we find that NCQCD contribution is also infrared finite. The calculations are performed in the weak binding limit and do not require the introduction of additi…
This review of the Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD),the early universe Cosmoloical Phase Transition from the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) to our present universe (QCDPT), Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions (RHIC) which can produce the QGP, the possible detection of the QGP produced by the production of mixed hybrid heavy quark mesons. We also review recent studies of the production of mixed heavy quark hybrids via RHIC and heavy quark meson supression in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions.
A detailed investigation of the low-energy chiral expansion is presented within a model truncation of QCD. The model dependence of the chiral coefficients is tested for several forms of the quark-quark interaction by varying the form of the running coupling in the infrared region. Furthermore we demonstrate how the UA(1)$ anomaly and a mass for the eta' can arise in this approach.
We present an analytical calculation of the $α_s$ corrections for the coefficient of $ρ_D/m_Q^3$ term in the heavy quark expansion for the inclusive semileptonic decays of heavy hadrons, such as $B \to X_c \ell \barν$. The full dependence of the coefficient on the final-state quark mass is taken into account. Our result leads to further improvement of the theoretical predictions for the precision determination of CKM matrix element $|V_{cb}|$.
We compute the quark and gluon condensates in $QCD$ with $N$ colors and $N_f$ flavors based on the renormalization group equations and on the knowledge of a single scale $Λ_{QCD}$. For $N=3$ and $N_f=3$ our findings are in the good range for $0.2\leqΛ_{QCD}\leq 0.36$ and in excellent agreement with the results in the literature from sum rules for a value $Λ_{QCD}=0.28$.
We review the developments of QCD multipole expansion and its applications to hadronic transitions and some radiative decays of heavy quarkonia. Theoretical predictions are compsred with updated experimental results.
QCD-like theories provide testing grounds for truncations of functional equations at non-zero density, since comparisons with lattice results are possible due to the absence of the sign problem. As a first step towards such a comparison, we determine for QCD and $G_2$ QCD the chiral and confinement/deconfinement transitions from the quark propagator Dyson-Schwinger equation at zero chemical potential by calculating the chiral and dual chiral condensates, respectively.
In the framework of QCD sum rules one uses a scheme, allowing one to apply the conditions of both nonrelativistic heavy quark motion inside mesons and independence of nonsplitting nS-state density on the heavy quark flavours. In the leading order an analitic expression is derived for leptonic constants of both heavy quarkonia and heavy mesons with a single heavy quark. The expression allows one explicitly to determine scaling properties of the constants.
We have studied the weak decay constants and the Isgur-Wise form factor of the B and D mesons in the heavy quark limit, by employing a relativistic quark confinement model. It is an attempt to improve our previous work within the same line of thinking, but by incorporating a couple of novel aspects. First, the infrared behavior of the heavy quark is considered by modifying its conventional propagator in terms of a single parameter $ν$. Second, the mass difference of the heavy meson and heavy quark: $E=m_H-M_Q$ has been included. It is found that the weak decay constants depend strongly on the …
I review the studies, which were reported after the last Linear Collider Workshop, on top quark physics and QCD physics at a future e+e- linear collider.
A modified method for calculating the pion vacuum susceptibility from an effective quark-quark interaction model is derived. Within this approach it is shown that the pion vacuum susceptibility is free of ultraviolet divergence and is much smaller than the previous estimations.
We present the two-loop virtual QCD corrections to the production of heavy quarks in the quark--anti-quark--annihilation channel in the limit when all kinematical invariants are large compared to the mass of the heavy quark. Our result is exact up to terms suppressed by powers of the heavy-quark mass. The derivation is based on a simple relation between massless and massive scattering amplitudes in gauge theories proposed recently by two of the authors as well as a direct calculation of the massive amplitude at two loops. The results presented here form an important part of the next-to-next-to…
The spin-averaged binding energy and the hyperfine mass splitting of heavy-light mesons are investigated within the constituent quark model as a function of the inverse heavy-quark mass. It is shown that the so-called heavy-quark kinetic energy, -lambda1 / 2mQ, may differ remarkably from the non-relativistic expectation <p**2> / 2mQ, thanks to relativistic effects in the effective interquark potential for heavy-light mesons, which may yield substantial 1 / mQ corrections to the heavy-quark static limit. The determination of the difference of the hadronic parameter lambda1 in the B(u(d)) and B(…
We present non-perturbative results for the spectrum of heavy quarkonia. Using an anisotropic formulation of Lattice QCD we achieved an unprecedented control over statistical and systematic errors. We also study relativistic corrections to the leading order predictions for heavy hybrids and conventional bound states.
We construct the heavy baryonic currents by using the Bethe-Salpeter wave functions in the heavy quark limit. We discuss the one-loop renormalization of these heavy baryonic currents as well as their two-point correlators up to the order $1/M_h$. For a special case, we do the QCD sum rule for masses of the doublet (3/2,5/2).
We review recent calculations of second order corrections to heavy quark decays. Techniques developed in this context are applicable to many processes involving heavy charged particles, for example the nonabelian dipole radiation. Calculations involving relativistic radiating particles are also discussed.
We perform the QCD testing of the Quasilocal Quark Model (QQM) based on Operator Product Expansion (OPE). The quark current correlators calculated in framework of the model, are compared to their OPE in QCD at intermediate energies. The QQM provides a reasonable resolution for mass spectrum of parity doublers in scalar and vector meson channels.
Within NRQCD factorization framework, in this work we compute, at the lowest order in velocity expansion, the next-to-leading-order (NLO) perturbative corrections to the short-distance coefficients associated with heavy quark fragmentation into the ${}^1S_0^{(1,8)}$ components of a heavy quarkonium. Starting from the Collins and Soper's operator definition of the quark fragmentation function, we apply the sector decomposition method to facilitate the numerical manipulation. It is found that the NLO QCD corrections have a significant impact.
Assuming the gluon field is well approximated by instanton configurations we derive a light quarks determinant and calculate its contribution to the specific heavy quarks correlators -- namely, the heavy quark propagator and heavy quark-aniquark correlator, receiving the instanton generated light-heavy quarks interaction terms contributions. With these knowledge we calculate the light quark contribution to the interaction between heavy quarks, which might be essential for the properties of a few heavy quarks systems.
We discuss QCD condensate contributions to the gluon propagator both in the fixed-point gauge and in covariant gauges for the external QCD vacuum gluon fields with the conclusion that a covariant gauge is essential to obtain a gauge invariant QCD vacuum energy density difference and to retain the unitarity of the quark scattering amplitude. The gauge-invariant QCD condensate contributions to the effective one-gluon exchange potential are evaluated by using the effective gluon propagator which produces a gauge-independent quark scattering amplitude.
We present the results of a recent investigation of the short-distance structure of non-perturbative interaction between light quarks. We analyze the connection between topology and the dynamics responsible for the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry. By measuring some appropriate correlation functions on the lattice, we provide compelling evidence for instanton-induced dynamics.
The combined large N_c and heavy quark limit for baryons containing a single heavy quark is discussed. The combined large N_c and heavy quark expansion of the heavy quark bilinear operators is obtained. In the combined expansion the corrections proportional to m_N/m_Q are summed to all orders. In particular, the combined expansion can be used to determine semileptonic form factors of heavy baryons in the combined limit.
We give an overview over recent calculations of baryonic correlator functions with finite mass quarks in view on their applicability for QCD sum rules. The QCD sum rule method is then demonstrated within the Heavy Quark Effective Theory.
Non-relativistic bound state theories for QED and QCD have become fairly mature and amenable to a textbook-level understanding and computation. In this talk we give an introductory review of the following subjects related to the recent computation of the heavy quarkonium spectrum using perturbative QCD: (1) Technological developments in higher-order computation, (2) Physics predictions, (3) Challenge towards analytic evaluation of the 3-loop static QCD potential.
We review recent developments in QCD pertaining to its application to weak decays of heavy hadrons. We concentrate on exclusive rare and nonleptonic B-meson decays, discussing both the theoretical framework and phenomenological issues of current interest.
We calculate the mixed tensor susceptibility of QCD vacuum in the framework of the global color symmetry model. In our calculation, the functional integration over gluon fields can be performed and the gluonic vacuum observable can be expressed in terms of the quark operators and the gluon propagator. The mixed tensor susceptibility was obtained with the subtraction of the perturbative contribution which is evaluated by the Wigner solution of the quark gap equation. Using several different effective quark-quark interaction models, we find the values of the mixed tensor susceptibility are very …
In this article, we restudy the mass spectrum of the ground state triply-heavy baryon states with the QCD sum rules by carrying out the operator product expansion up to the vacuum condensates of dimension 6 in a consistent way and preforming a novel analysis. It is the first time to take into account the three-gluon condensates in the QCD sum rules for the triply-heavy baryon states.
