In a framework that makes close contact with modern effective field theories for non-relativistic bound states at zero temperature, we study the real-time evolution of a static quark-antiquark pair in a medium of gluons and light quarks at finite temperature. For temperatures ranging from values larger to smaller than the inverse distance of the quark and antiquark, 1/r, and at short distances, we derive the potential between the two static sources, and calculate their energy and thermal decay width. Two mechanisms contribute to the thermal decay width: the imaginary part of the gluon self energy induced by the Landau damping phenomenon, and the quark-antiquark color singlet to color octet thermal break up. Parametrically, the first mechanism dominates for temperatures such that the Debye mass is larger than the binding energy, while the latter, which we quantify here for the first time, dominates for temperatures such that the Debye mass is smaller than the binding energy. If the Debye mass is of the same order as 1/r, our results are in agreement with a recent calculation of the static Wilson loop at finite temperature. For temperatures smaller than 1/r, we find new contributions to the potential, both real and imaginary, which may be relevant to understand the onset of heavy quarkonium dissociation in a thermal medium.

Multiple Parton Scattering in Nuclei: Quark-quark Scattering
本文系统地研究了核介质中夸克-夸克(反夸克)双散射对夸克和反夸克碎裂函数的修正,直到\cal{O}(α_{s}^2)$ in deeply inelastic scattering (DIS) off nuclear targets. At the order $ \cal{O}(α_s^2)$, twist-four contributions from quark-quark (antiquark) rescattering also exhibit the Landau-Pomeranchuck-Midgal (LPM) interference feature similar to gluon bremsstrahlung induced by multiple parton scattering. Compared to quark-gluon scattering, the modification, which is dominated by $ t $-channel quark-quark (antiquark) scattering, is only smaller by a factor of $ C_F/C_A=4/9$乘以介质中夸克和胶子的分布比.这种修改对于现实的运动学和有限的介质尺寸是不可忽略的。夸克-反夸克湮灭过程对夸克(反夸克)碎裂函数的修正由介质…
In this paper we study the interactions among a static quark-antiquark pair in the presence of dense two-color quark matter with lattice simulation. To this end we compute Polyakov line correlation functions and determine the renormalized color averaged, color singlet and color triplet grand potentials. The color singlet grand potential allows us to elucidate the number of quarks induced by a static quark antiquark source, as well as the internal energy of such a pair in dense quark matter. We furthermore determine the screening length, which in the confinement phase is synonymous with the str…
In this paper, we study the spatial correlations among quarks and antiquarks produced at mid-rapidity by gluon pair production in the color glass condensate framework. This paper is the first part of a series in which we calculate a complete set of quark/quark, quark/antiquark, and antiquark/antiquark spatial correlation functions in heavy-light ion collisions, with the goal of incorporating their conserved charges into the initial conditions of hydrodynamics. The physical mechanisms captured in this calculation include geometric, entanglement, and interaction-mediated correlations. In this fi…
In the context of the dual superconductor picture for the confinement mechanism, we study maximally Abelian (MA) projection of quark confinement in SU(3) quenched lattice QCD with $32^4$ at $β$=6.4 (i.e., $a \simeq$ 0.058 fm). We investigate the static quark-antiquark potential $V(r)$, its Abelian part $V_{\rm Abel}(r)$ and its off-diagonal part $V_{\rm off}(r)$, respectively, from the on-axis lattice data. As a remarkable fact, we find almost perfect Abelian dominance for quark confinement, i.e., $σ_{\rm Abel} \simeq σ$ for the string tension, on the fine and large-volume lattice. We find als…
We study the quark-antiquark scattering phase shift and meson spectral function in the pion superfluid described by the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The meson mixing in the pion superfluid changes dramatically the full scattering phase shift and spreads strongly the spectral function of some of the collective modes.
We compute hybrid static potentials in SU(2) lattice gauge theory using a multilevel algorithm and three different small lattice spacings. The resulting static potentials, which are valid for quark-antiquark separations as small as 0.05 fm, are important e.g. when computing masses of heavy hybrid mesons in the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. We also discuss and exclude possible systematic errors from topological freezing, the finite lattice volume and glueball decays.
I discuss 3 related quantities: the cusp anomalous dimension, the HQET heavy-quark field anomalous dimension, and the quark-antiquark potential. Leading large $n_f$ terms can be calculated to all orders in $α_s$. Next to leading terms with the abelian color structure $C_F^2$ also can be found to all orders (but not non-abelian $C_F C_A$ terms). This talk is based on Appendices C and D in [arXiv:1510.07803].
In the quantum statistical parton distributions approach proposed more than one decade ago, one imposes relations between quarks and antiquarks expressions, which lead to very specific properties for the antiquarks. These properties have been verified up to now by recent data and it is a real challenge also for forthcoming experimental results, mainly in the high $x$ region.
We present a local subtraction scheme for computing next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the production of a massive quark-antiquark pair from a colourless initial state. The subtraction terms are built following the CoLoRFulNNLO method and refined in such a way that their integration gives rise to compact, fully analytic expressions. All ingredients necessary for a numerical implementation of our subtraction scheme are provided in detail. As an example, we calculate the fully differential decay rate of the Standard Model Higgs boson to massive bottom quarks at next-to-next-to-lead…
We study a system in which a quark-antiquark antenna emits a hard gluon in a medium, and an extra very soft emission afterwards. Considering the coherence effects in terms of the survival probability, we can describe the interaction of the $q\bar{q}g$ configuration with the medium. We extrapolate previous analyzes of the antenna radiation to the case of two hard splittings inside the medium, and prove that this generalization keeps back the picture of jet quenching with effective emitters in the parton QCD cascade.
In QCD at high density, the color-octet quark-antiquark condensate $\langle\overlineψγ_0(λ^A)_C (λ^A)_Fψ\rangle$ is generally nonzero and dynamically breaks the $\mathrm{SU}(3)_C\times \mathrm{SU}(3)_L\times\mathrm{SU}(3)_R$ symmetry down to the diagonal $\mathrm{SU}(3)_V$. We evaluate this condensate in the mean-field approximation and find that it is of order $μΔ^2\log(μ/Δ)$ where $Δ$ is the BCS gap of quarks. Next we propose a novel non-Hermitian chiral random matrix theory that describes the formation of colorful quark-antiquark condensates. We take the microscopic large-$N$ limit and find…
In this work we calculate the static limit of the energy for a quark-antiquark pair from the Nambu-Goto action using a holographic approach with a deformed AdS space, with warp factor $\exp\{(κz)^n/n\}$. From this energy we derive the Cornell potential for the quark-antiquark interaction. We also find a range of values for our parameters which fits exactly the Cornell potential parameters. In particular, setting the zero energy of the Cornell potential at 0.33 fermi, we find that $κ=0.56$ GeV and $n=1.3$.
While lattice QCD allows for reliable results at small momentum transfers (large quark separations), perturbative QCD is restricted to large momentum transfers (small quark separations). The latter is determined up to a reference momentum scale $Λ$, which is to be provided from outside, e.g. from experiment or lattice QCD simulations. In this article, we extract $Λ_{\overline{\textrm{MS}}}$ for QCD with $n_f=2$ dynamical quark flavors by matching the perturbative static quark-antiquark potential in momentum space to lattice results in the intermediate momentum regime, where both approaches are…
We study the relaxation time required for the alignment between the spin of a finite-mass quark/antiquark and the thermal vorticity, at finite temperature and baryon chemical potential, in the context of relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The relaxation time is computed as the inverse of the total reaction rate that in turn is obtained from the imaginary part of the quark/antiquark self-energy. We model the interaction between spin and thermal vorticity within the medium by means of a vertex coupling quarks and thermal gluons that, for a uniform temperature, is proportional to the global angul…
We study the transitions between the different color states of a static quark-antiquark pair, singlet and octet, in a thermal medium. This is done non-perturbatively exploiting the infinite mass limit of QCD. This study is interesting because it can be used for future developments within the framework of Effective Field Theories (EFTs) and because it can be combined with other techniques, like lattice QCD or AdS/CFT, to gain non-perturbative information about the evolution of quarkonium in a medium. We also study the obtained expressions in the large $N_{c}$ limit. This allows us to learn less…
