In this paper, the divisibility property of the type 2 $(p, q)$-analogue of the $r$-Whitney numbers of the second kind is established. More precisely, a congruence relation modulo $pq$ for this $(p,q)$-analogue is derived.
Silverman proved the analogue of Zsigmondy's Theorem for elliptic divisibility sequences. For elliptic curves in global minimal form, it seems likely this result is true in a uniform manner. We present such a result for certain infinite families of curves and points. Our methods allow the first explicit examples of the elliptic Zsigmondy Theorem to be exhibited.
Divisibility of an analogue of $t$-core partition function by powers of primes
Let $C$ be a smooth genus one curve described by a quartic polynomial equation over the rational field $\mathbb Q$ with $P\in C(\mathbb Q)$. We give an explicit criterion for the divisibility-by-$2$ of a rational point on the elliptic curve $(C,P)$. This provides an analogue to the classical criterion of the divisibility-by-$2$ on elliptic curves described by Weierstrass equations. We employ this criterion to investigate the question of extending a rational $D(q)$-quadruple to a quintuple. We give concrete examples to which we can give an affirmative answer. One of these results implies that a…
Let $\mathcal S$ be a multiset of integers. We say $\mathcal S$ is a $\textit{zero-sum sequence}$ if the sum of its elements is 0. We study zero-sum sequences whose elements lie in the interval $[-k,k]$ such that no subsequence of length $t$ is also zero-sum. Given these restrictions, Augspurger, Minter, Shoukry, Sissokho, Voss show that there are arbitrarily long $t$-avoiding, $k$-bounded zero-sum sequences unless $t$ is divisible by $\mathrm{LCM}(2,3,4,\dots,2k-1)$. We confirm a conjecture of these authors that for $k$ and $t$ such that this divisibility condition holds, every zero-sum seque…
We obtain divisibility conditions on the multiplicative orders of elements of the form $ζ+ ζ^{-1}$ in a finite field by exploiting a link to the arithmetic of real quadratic fields.
Over 200 years ago, Gauss discovered a composition law on the $SL_2({\mathbb Z})$-equivalence classes of primitive binary quadratic forms. Since then, bijections of classes of binary forms have been found with ideal class groups of quadratic rings. This paper uses one such bijection given by Bhargava, relating classes of projective binary cubic forms to the $3$-torsion of an ideal class group, to find an explicit form for a cubic analogue of Gaussian composition.
Explicit determinations of several classes of trigonometric sums are given. These sums can be viewed as analogues or generalizations of Gauss sums. In a previous paper, two of the present authors considered primarily sine sums associated with primitive odd characters. In this paper, we establish two general theorems involving both sines and cosines, with more attention given to cosine sums in the several examples that we provide.
We consider the problem of estimating the error term $\mathcal{E}_{q}(x)=\big|\mathbb{Z}^{2q+1}\capδ_{x}\mathcal{B}\big|-\textit{vol}\big(\mathcal{B}\big)x^{2q+2}$ which occurs in the counting of lattice points in Heisenberg dilates of the Cygan-Kor{á}nyi ball. We prove three type of results regarding the order of magnitude of $\mathcal{E}_{q}(x)$, which are valid for any $q\geq3$. An upper bound estimate of the form $|\mathcal{E}_{q}(x)|\ll x^{2q-2/3}$ ; A sharp second moment estimate, which shows that $\mathcal{E}_{q}(x)$ has order of magnitude $x^{2q-1}$ in mean-square ; And an $Ω$-estimate…
In this paper, we study the polynomial Gauss sums over finite fields, and present an analogue of Davenport-Hasse's theorem for the entire polynomial Gauss sums, which is a generalization of the previous result obtained by Hayes.
We use the 1907 Hurwitz formula along with the Jacobi triple product identity to understand representation properties of two JP (Jones-Pall) forms of Kaplansky: 9x^2+ 16y^2 +36z^2 + 16yz+ 4xz + 8xy and 9x^2+ 17y^2 +32z^2 -8yz+ 8xz + 6xy. We also discuss three nontrivial analogues of the Gauss EYPHKA theorem. The technique used can be applied to all known spinor regular ternary quadratic forms.
An analogue of the Gauss-Lucas theorem for polynomials over the algebraic closure $\mathbb C_p$ of the field of $p$-adic numbers is considered.
