In this paper we consider a quintom model of dark energy with a single scalar field $T$ given by a Lagrangian which inspired by tachyonic Lagrangian in string theory. We consider non-minimal coupling of tachyon field to the scalar curvature, then we obtain the equation of state (EoS), and the condition required for the model parameters when $ω$ crosses over -1.
In this letter, we study the condition for a generalized DBI action providing a quintom scenario of dark energy. We consider a development of string-inspired quintom by introducing non-minimal coupling. Then we show that the bouncing solution can appear in the universe dominated by the non-minimally coupled quintom matter.
We study dynamics of equation of state parameter for a non-minimally coupled quintom dark energy component on the warped DGP brane. We investigate crossing of the cosmological constant line in this scenario. This crossing occurs in both DGP$^{\pm}$ branches of the model.
Motivated by the recent work of Zhang and Chen \cite{bin}, we generalize their work to the non-minimally coupled case. We consider a quintom model of dark energy with a single scalar field $T$ given by a Lagrangian which inspired by tachyonic Lagrangian in string theory. We consider non-minimal coupling of tachyon field to the scalar curvature, then we reconstruct this model in the light of three forms of parametrization for dynamical dark energy.
We construct a quintom dark energy model with two non-minimally coupled scalar fields, one quintessence and the other phantom field, confined on the warped DGP brane. We study some important issues such as phantom divide line crossing, existence of the bouncing solutions and the stability of the solutions in this framework. We show that this model accounts for crossing of the phantom divide line and realization of the bouncing solutions. This model allows for stability of the solutions in separate regions of the $ω$-$ω'$ phase-plane.
Motivated by our recent work \cite{set1}, we generalize this work to the interacting non-flat case. Therefore in this paper we deal with canonical, phantom and quintom models, with the various fields being non-minimally coupled to gravity, within the framework of interacting holographic dark energy. We employ the holographic model of interacting dark energy to obtain the equation of state for the holographic energy density in non-flat (closed) universe enclosed by the event horizon measured from the sphere of horizon named $L$.
In this paper we consider a quintom model of dark energy with non-minimal coupling between scalar field and modified gravity which is known $f(R)$ gravity. The Lagrangian for scalar field has been inspired by tachyonic Lagrangian in string theory. Then we obtain the equation of state (EoS), and the condition required for the model parameters when $ω$ crosses over -1. This model shows that for having $ω$ across over -1, one doesn't need to add some higher derivative operator in the tachyonic part of action (the way that usually used to obtain crossing of the phantom divide line for EoS paramete…
We investigate canonical, phantom and quintom models, with the various fields being non-minimally coupled to gravity, in the framework of holographic dark energy. We classify them and we discuss their cosmological implications. In particular, we examine the present value of the dark energy equation-of-state parameter and the crossing through the phantom divide, and we extract the conditions for a future cosmological singularity. The combined scenarios are in agreement with observations and reveal interesting cosmological behaviors.
We investigate quintom cosmology in FRW universes using isomorphic models consisting of three coupled oscillators, one of which carries negative kinetic energy. In particular, we examine the cosmological paradigms of minimally-coupled massless quintom, of two conformally-coupled massive scalars and of conformally-coupled massive quintom, and we obtain their qualitative characteristics as well as their quantitative asymptotic behavior. For open or flat geometries, we find that, independently of the specific initial conditions, the universe is always led to an eternal expansion.
We propose in this paper a quintom model of dark energy with a single scalar field $ϕ$ given by the lagrangian ${\cal L}=-V(ϕ)\sqrt{1-α^\prime\nabla_μϕ\nabla^μϕ+β^\prime ϕ\Boxϕ}$. In the limit of $β^\prime\to$0 our model reduces to the effective low energy lagrangian of tachyon considered in the literature. We study the cosmological evolution of this model, and show explicitly the behaviors of the equation of state crossing the cosmological constant boundary.
We study a scalar field non-minimally coupled to the curvature, in the framework of holographic dark energy. We obtain a relation between the coupling of the scalar field and the holographic DE parameters. In the model without potential we found the EOS parameter in different regions of the parameters, giving rise to accelerated expansion. For some restrictions on the parameters, the model presents quintom behavior.

We construct a DGP inspired braneworld scenario where a scalar field non-minimally coupled to the induced Ricci curvature is present on the brane. We show that this model allows for an embedding of the standard Friedmann cosmology in the sense that the cosmological evolution of the background metric on the brane can be described by the standard Friedmann equation. The relation between our framework and the dark-energy formalism is explored.
The bouncing cosmology provides a successful solution of the cosmological singularity problem. In this paper, we study the bouncing behavior of a single scalar field model with tachyon field non-minimally coupled to itself, its derivative and to the curvature. By utilizing the numerical calculations we will show that the bouncing solution can appear in the universe dominated by such a quintom matter with equation of state crossing the phantom divide line. We also investigate the classical stability of our model using the phase velocity of the homogeneous perturbations of the tachyon scalar fie…
We construct a DGP inspired braneworld scenario where a scalar field non-minimally coupled to the induced Ricci curvature is present on the brane. First we investigate the status of gravitational potential with non-minimal coupling and observational constraints on this non-minimal model. Then we further deepen the idea of embedding of FRW cosmology in this non-minimal setup. Cosmological implications of this scenario are examined with details and the quintessence and late-time expansion of the universe within this framework are examined. Some observational constraints imposed on this non-minim…
I investigate the impact of a "would be" fundamental symmetry of the laws of nature under the interchange of gravity and antigravity, on the understanding of negative energies in general relativity. For this purpose a toy model that is based on Einstein-Hilbert gravity with two minimally coupled self-interacting scalar fields is explored, where the second (exotic) scalar field with negative energy density may be regarded, alternatively, as an antigravitating field with positive energy. Spontaneous breakdown of reflection symmetry is then considered in order to discuss the implications the prop…
In this paper, we consider rolling tachyon, with steep run-away type of potentials non-minimally coupled to massive neutrino matter. The coupling dynamically builds up at late times as neutrino matter turns non-relativistic. In case of scaling and string inspired potentials, we have shown that non-minimal coupling leads to minimum in the field potential. Given a suitable choice of model parameters, it is shown to give rise to late-time acceleration with the desired equation of state.
We consider the dynamics of a contracting universe ruled by two minimally coupled scalar fields with general exponential potentials. This model describes string-inspired scenarios in the Einstein frame. Both background and perturbations can be solved analytically in this model. Curvature perturbations are generated with a scale invariant spectrum only for a dust-like collapse, as happens for a single field model with an exponential potential. We find the conditions for which a scale invariant spectrum for isocurvature perturbation is generated.
In multi-scalar field cosmologies new dynamical degrees of freedom are introduced which can explain the observational phenomena. Unlike the usual scalar field theory where a single scalar field is considered, the multi-scalar field cosmologies allow more than one scalar field and exhibits interetsing consequences, such as quintom, hybrid inflation etc. The current work studies the existence of exact solutions and integrable dynamical systems in multi-scalar field cosmology. We present the exact analytic solutions for a system of $N$-scalar fields. In particular, we consider a multi scalar fiel…
We study a large family of metric-affine theories with a projective symmetry, including non-minimally coupled matter fields which respect this invariance. The symmetry is straightforwardly realised by imposing that the connection only enters through the symmetric part of the Ricci tensor, even in the matter sector. We leave the connection completely free (including torsion) and obtain its general solution as the Levi-Civita connection of an auxiliary metric, showing that the torsion only appears as a projective mode. This result justifies the widely used condition of setting vanishing torsion …
We apply dynamical systems techniques to investigate cosmological models inspired in scalar-tensor theories written in the Einstein frame. We prove that if the potential and the coupling function are sufficiently smooth functions, the scalar field almost always diverges into the past. The dynamics of two important invariant sets is investigated in some detail. By assuming some regularity conditions for the potential and for the coupling function, it is constructed a dynamical system well suited to investigate the dynamics where the scalar field diverges, i.e. near the initial singularity. The …
In this paper we consider two different nonlinear $σ$-models minimally coupled to Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity. We show that the resultant geometries represent minimal modifications with respect to those found in GR, though with important physical consequences. In particular, wormhole structures always arise, though this does not guarantee by itself the geodesic completeness of those space-times. In one of the models, quadratic in the canonical kinetic term, we identify a subset of solutions which are regular everywhere and are geodesically complete. We discuss characteristic feature…
We consider non-minimally coupled (with gravity) scalar field with non-canonical kinetic energy. The form of the kinetic term is of Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) form.We study the early evolution of the universe when it is sourced only by the k-field, as well as late time evolution when both the matter and k-field are present. For the k-field, we have considered constant potential as well as potential inspired from Boundary String Field Theory (B-SFT). We show that it is possible to have inflationary solution in early time as well as late time accelerating phase. The solutions also exhibit attractor…
The problem of dark energy can be roughly stated as the proposition and validation of a cosmological model that can explain the phenomenon of the accelerated expansion of the Universe. This problem is an open discussion topic in modern physics. One of the most common approaches is that of the "Dark Energy" (DE), a matter component still unknown, with repulsive character (to explain the accelerated expansion), which fills about 2/3 of the total content of the Universe. In this thesis are investigated two cosmological models, a non-minimally coupled quintessence field, based on a Scalar-Tensor T…
We consider a string-inspired, gravitational theory of scalar and electromagnetic fields and we investigate the existence of axially-symmetric, Gödel-type cosmological solutions. The neutral case is studied first and an "extreme" Gödel-type rotating solution, that respects the causality, is determined. The charged case is considered next and two new configurations for the, minimally-coupled to gravity, electromagnetic field are presented. Another configuration motivated by the expected distribution of currents and charges in a rotating universe is studied and shown to lead to a Gödel-type solu…
An integral representation of the 1-loop partition function for charged scalars and spinors, minimally coupled to a uniform $U(1)$ field on $S^2$, is given in terms of $SO(1,2)$ Harish-Chandra group characters and evaluated exactly in terms of Hurwitz $ζ$-functions. Analytically continuing the $U(1)$ field, we interpret the path integrals as quasicanonical partition functions in $dS_2$ with an electric field. The character itself is obtained as a trace over states living at the future boundary of de Sitter and has a quasinormal mode expansion. The imaginary part of the partition function captu…

We consider the appearance of multiple scalar fields in SFT inspired non-local models with a single scalar field at late times. In this regime all the scalar fields are free. This system minimally coupled to gravity can be analyzed approximately or numerically. The main result of this note is the introduction of an exactly solvable model which obeys an exact solution in the cosmological context for the Friedmann equations and that reproduces the behavior expected from SFT in the asymptotic regime. Different applications of such a potential to multi-field cosmological models are discussed.

We show how minimally-coupled matter fields of arbitrary spin, when coupled to Ricci-Based Gravity theories, develop non-trivial effective interactions that can be treated perturbatively only below a characteristic high-energy scale $Λ_Q$. Our results generalize to arbitrary matter fields those recently obtained for spin 1/2 fields in \cite{Latorre:2017uve}. We then use this interactions to set bounds on the high-energy scale $Λ_Q$ that controls departures of Ricci-Based Gravity theories from General Relativity. Particularly, for Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity we obtain the strong boun…
An analytic approach to phenomenological models inspired by cubic string field theory is introduced and applied to some examples. We study a class of actions for a minimally coupled, homogeneous scalar field whose energy density contains infinitely many time derivatives. These nonlocal systems are systematically localized and an algorithm to find cosmological solutions of the dynamical equations is provided. Our formalism is able to define the nonlocal field in regions of the parameter space which are inaccessible by standard methods. Also, problems related to nonlocality are reinterpreted und…
In scalar-tensor theories the scalar fields generically couple nontrivially to gravity. We study the observable properties of inflationary models with non-minimally coupled inflaton and Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) kinetic term. Within the assumptions of the priors of our Monte-Carlo simulations we find these models can generate new interesting observable signatures. Our discussion focuses on string theory inspired phenomenological models of relativistic D-brane inflation. While successful string theory constructions of ultra-violet DBI brane inflation remain elusive, we show that in suitable regio…

The virtual black hole phenomenon, which has been observed previously in specific models, is established for generic 2D dilaton gravity theories with scalar matter. The ensuing effective line element can become asymptotically flat only for two classes of models, among them spherically reduced theories and the string inspired dilaton black hole (CGHS model). We present simple expressions for the lowest order scalar field vertices of the effective theory which one obtains after integrating out geometry exactly. Treating the boundary in a natural and simple way asymptotic states, tree-level verti…
We consider four-dimensional Einstein gravity minimally coupled to a dilaton scalar field with a supergravity-inspired scalar potential. We obtain an exact time-dependent spherically symmetric solution describing gravitational collapse to a static scalar-hairy black hole. The solution can be asymptotically AdS, flat or dS depending on the value of the cosmological constant parameter $Λ$ in the potential. As the advanced time $u$ increases, the spacetime reaches equilibrium in an exponential fashion, i.e., $e^{-u/u_0}$ with $u_0\sim1/(α^4 M_0)^{1/3}$, where $M_0$ is the mass of the final black …
We investigate the inflationary attractors in models of inflation inspired from general conformal transformation of general scalar-tensor theories to the Einstein frame. The coefficient of the conformal transformation in our study depends on both the scalar field and its kinetic term. Therefore the relevant scalar-tensor theories display the subset of the class I of the degenerate higher-order scalar-tensor theories in which both the scalar field and its kinetic term can non-minimally couple to gravity. We find that if the conformal coefficient $Ω$ takes a multiplicative form such that $Ω\equi…
Massless minimally coupled quantum scalar field with an asymmetric self interaction, $V(ϕ)=λϕ^4/4!+ βϕ^3/3! $ (with $λ>0$) is considered in the $(3+1)$-dimensional inflationary de Sitter spacetime. This potential is bounded from below irrespective of the sign of $β$. Earlier computations mostly considered the quartic part. Our chief motivation behind this study is to assess the vacuum expectation values of $V(ϕ)$ and $ϕ$, both of which can be negative, and hence may lead to some screening of the inflationary cosmological constant value. First using the in-in formalism, the renormalised quantum…
Tensor non-Gaussianity represents an important future probe of the physics of inflation. Inspired by recent works, we elaborate further on the possibility of significant primordial tensor non-Gaussianities sourced by extra fields during inflation. Unitarity constraints limit the impact of extra (spinning) particle content by means of a lower bound on the corresponding mass spectrum. For spin-2 particles, this takes the form of the well-known Higuchi bound. Massive ($m\gtrsim H$) particles will typically decay during inflation unless they are non-minimally coupled to the inflaton sector: the in…
