The aim of the present paper is twofold. We study directed porosity in connection with conformal iterated function systems (CIFS) and with singular integrals. We prove that limit sets of finite CIFS are porous in a stronger sense than already known. Furthermore we use directed porosity to establish that truncated singular integral operators, with respect to general Radon measures $μ$ and kernels $K$, converge weakly in some dense subspaces of $L^2(μ)$ when the support of $μ$ belongs to a broad family of sets. This class contains many fractal sets like CIFS's limit sets.
A new method for constructing self-referential tilings of Euclidean space from a graph directed iterated function system, based on a combinatorial structure we call a pre-tree, is introduced. In the special case that we refer to as balanced, the resulting tilings have a finite set of prototiles, are quasiperiodic but not periodic, and are self-similar. A necessary and sufficient condition for two balanced tilings to be congruent is provided.
In this paper we propose a new model of random graph directed fractals that extends the current well-known model of random graph directed iterated function systems, $V$-variable attractors, and fractal and Mandelbrot percolation. We study its dimensional properties for similarities with and without overlaps. In particular we show that for the two classes of $1$-variable and $\infty$-variable random graph directed attractors we introduce, the Hausdorff and upper box counting dimension coincide almost surely, irrespective of overlap. Under the additional assumption of the uniform strong separati…
Feng and Wang showed that two homogeneous iterated function systems in $\mathbb{R}$ with multiplicatively independent contraction ratios necessarily have different attractors. In this paper, we extend this result to graph directed iterated function systems in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with contraction ratios that are of the form $\frac{1}β$, for integers $β$. By using a result of Boigelot et al., this allows us to give a proof of a conjecture of Adamczewski and Bell. In doing so, we link the graph directed iterated function systems to Büchi automata. In particular, this link extends to real numbers $β$. …
The theory of fractal tilings of fractal blow-ups is extended to graph-directed iterated function systems, resulting in generalizations and extensions of some of the theory of Anderson and Putnam and of Bellisard et al. regarding self-similar tilings.
This paper presents a detailed symbolic approach to the study of self-similar tilings. It uses properties of addresses associated with graph-directed iterated function systems to establish conjugacy properties of tiling spaces. Tiles may be fractals and the tiled set may be a complicated unbounded subset of $\mathbb{R}^{M}$.
Fractal interpolation function (FIF) is a special type of continuous function which interpolates certain data set and the attractor of the Iterated function system (IFS) corresponding to the data set is the graph of the FIF. Coalescence Hidden-variable Fractal Interpolation Function (CHFIF) is both self-affine and non self-affine in nature depending on the free variables and constrained free variables for a generalized IFS. In this article graph directed iterated function system for a finite number of generalized data sets is considered and it is shown that the projections of the attractors on…
In this paper we introduce and develop the theory of non-autonomous graph directed Markov systems which is a generalization of the theory of conformal graph directed Markov systems of Mauldin and Urbański, first presented in their book, and the theory of non-autonomous conformal iterated function systems set forth by Rempe-Gillen and Urbański. We exhibit several large classes of functions for which Bowen's formula for Hausdorff dimension holds. In particular we consider weakly balanced finite systems, where we have some control over the growth of the derivatives, and ascending systems. Our res…
In this paper we study the dimension spectrum of general conformal graph directed Markov systems modeled by countable state symbolic subshifts of finite type. We perform a comprehensive study of the dimension spectrum addressing questions regarding its size and topological structure. As a corollary we obtain that the dimension spectrum of infinite conformal iterated function systems is compact and perfect. On the way we revisit the role of the parameter $θ$ in graph directed Markov systems and we show that new phenomena arise. We also establish topological pressure estimates for subsystems in …
We show that for the attractor $(K_{1},\dots,K_{q})$ of a graph directed iterated function system, for each $1\leq j\leq q$ and $\varepsilon>0$ there exits a self-similar set $K\subseteq K_{j}$ that satisfies the strong separation condition and $\dim_{H}K_{j}-\varepsilon<\dim_{H}K$. We show that we can further assume convenient conditions on the orthogonal parts and similarity ratios of the defining similarities of $K$. Using this property as a `black box' we obtain results on a range of topics including on dimensions of projections, intersections, distance sets and sums and products of sets.
We develop a comprehensive theory of conformal graph directed Markov systems in the non-Riemannian setting of Carnot groups equipped with a sub-Riemannian metric. In particular, we develop the thermodynamic formalism and show that, under natural hypotheses, the limit set of an Carnot conformal GDMS has Hausdorff dimension given by Bowen's parameter. We illustrate our results for a variety of examples of both linear and nonlinear iterated function systems and graph directed Markov systems in such sub-Riemannian spaces. These include the Heisenberg continued fractions introduced by Lukyanenko an…
This paper is the first paper of three papers in a series, which intend to provide a systematic treatment for the space-filling curves of self-similar sets. In the present paper, we introduce a notion of \emph{linear graph-directed IFS} (linear GIFS in short). We show that to construct a space-filling curve of a self-similar set, it is amount to explore its linear GIFS structures. Some other notions, such as chain condition, path-on-lattice IFS, and visualizations of space-filling curves are also concerned. In sequential papers \cite{Dai15} and \cite{RZ14}, we obtain a universal algorithm to c…
For a self-similar set in $\mathbb{R}^d$ that is the attractor of an iterated function system that does not verify the weak separation property, Fraser, Henderson, Olson and Robinson showed that its Assouad dimension is at least $1$. In this paper, it is shown that the Assouad dimension of such a set is the sum of the dimension of the vector space spanned by the set of $\textit{overlapping directions}$ and the Assouad dimension of the orthogonal projection of the set self-similar set onto the orthogonal complement of that vector space. This result is applied to give sufficient conditions on th…
In this paper we investigate the multifractal decomposition of the limit set of a finitely generated, free Fuchsian group with respect to the mean cusp winding number. We will completely determine its multifractal spectrum by means of a certain free energy function and show that the Hausdorff dimension of sets consisting of limit points with the same scaling exponent coincides with the Legendre transform of this free energy function. As a by-product we generalise previously obtained results on the multifractal formalism for infinite iterated function systems to the setting of infinite graph di…
The study of escape rates for a ball in a dynamical systems has been much studied. Understanding the asymptotic behavior of the escape rate as the radius of the ball tends to zero is an especially subtle problem. In the case of hyperbolic conformal systems this has been addressed by various authors. In this paper we consider a far more general realm of conformal maps where the analysis is correspondingly more complicated. We prove the existence of escape rates and calculate them in the context of countable alphabets, either finite or infinite, uniformly contracting conformal graph directed Mar…
The ultimate goal of our book is to present a unified approach to the dynamics, ergodic theory, and geometry of elliptic functions from $\C$ to $\oc$. We consider elliptic functions as a most regular class of transcendental meromorphic functions. Poles form an essential feature of such functions but the set of critical values is finite and an elliptic function is "the same" on its of its fundamental regions. In a sense this is the class of transcendental meromorphic functions which resembles rational functions most. On the other hand, the differences are huge. We will touch on them in the cour…
