We study a de-Sitter model in the framework of a Deformed Special Relativity (DSR) inspired structure. The effects of this framework appear as the existence of a fundamental length which influences the behavior of the scale factor. We show that such a deformation can either be used to control the unbounded growth of the scale factor in the present accelerating phase or account for the inflationary era in the early evolution of the universe.
We develop the physics of dual kappa Poincare algebra, which we will call dual DSR. First, we show that the dual kappa Poincare algebra is isomorphic to de Sitter algebra and its spactime is essentially de Sitter spacetime. Second, we show how to derive the coproduct rules for Beltrami and conformal coordinates of de Sitter spacetime. It follows from the current literature on de Sitter relativity that the speed of light c and the de Sitter length are the two invariant scales of the physics of dual kappa Poincare algebra. Third, we derive the Casimir invariant of the dual kappa Popincare algebr…
We show that the existence of a fundamental length, introduced in Deformed Special Relativity (DSR) inspired minisuper (phase-) space, causes the behavior of the scale factor of the universe to change from that of a universe filled with dust to an accelerating universe driven by a cosmological constant.
It is known that the space of momenta of DSR can be identified with de Sitter space. In this paper, we discuss the relation of the noncanonical phase space of the Magueijo-Smolin model of DSR with the canonical 5-dimensional phase space in which the de Sitter space of momenta is embedded. We suggest that in analogy with the momentum variables, also the position variables should be constrained to lie on a null hypersurface of the five-dimensional space
In many different ways, Deformed Special Relativity (DSR) has been argued to provide an effective limit of quantum gravity in almost-flat regime. Unfortunately DSR is up to now plagued by many conceptual problems (in particular how it describes macroscopic objects) which forbids a definitive physical interpretation and clear predictions. Here we propose a consistent framework to interpret DSR. We extend the principle of relativity: the same way that Special Relativity showed us that the definition of a reference frame requires to specify its speed, we show that DSR implies that we must also ta…
We consider an Einstein-Yang-Mills Lagrangian in a five dimensional space-time including a cosmological constant. Assuming all fields to be independent of the extra coordinate, a dimensional reduction leads to an effective (3+1)-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs-dilaton model where the cosmological constant induces a Liouville potential in the dilaton field. We construct spherically symmetric solutions analytically in specific limits and study the generic solutions for vanishing dilaton coupling numerically. We find that in this latter case the solutions bifurcate with the branch of (Anti-…
In many different ways, Deformed Special Relativity (DSR) has been argued to provide an effective limit of quantum gravity in almost-flat regime. Some experiments will soon be able to test some low energy effects of quantum gravity, and DSR is a very promising candidate to describe these latter. Unfortunately DSR is up to now plagued by many conceptual problems (in particular how it describes macroscopic objects) which forbids a definitive physical interpretation and clear predictions. Here we propose a consistent framework to interpret DSR. We extend the principle of relativity: the same way …
We develop a method for treating a series of secularly growing terms obtained from quantum perturbative calculations: autonomous first-order differential equations are constructed such that they reproduce this series to the given order. The exact solutions of these equations are free of secular terms and approach a finite limit at late times. This technique is illustrated for the well-known problem of secular growth of correlation functions of a massless scalar field with a quartic self-interaction in de Sitter space. For the expectation value of the product of two fields at coinciding space-t…
We find a new rotating black hole in three-dimensional anti-de Sitter space using an anisotropic perfect fluid inspired by the noncommutative black hole. We deduce the thermodynamical quantities of this black hole and compare them with those of a rotating BTZ solution.
We find a new charged black hole in three-dimensional anti-de Sitter space using an anisotropic perfect fluid inspired by the noncommutative black hole as the source of matter and a gaussian distribution of electric charge. We deduce the thermodynamical quantities of this black hole and compare them with those of a charged BTZ solution.
We investigate the possible effect of cosmological-constant type dark energy during the inflation period of the early universe. This is accommodated by a new dispersion relation in de Sitter space. The modified inflation model of a minimally-coupled scalar field is still able to yield an observation-compatible scale-invariant primordial spectrum, simultaneously having potential to generate a spectrum with lower power at large scales. A qualitative match to the WMAP 7-year data is presented. We obtain an $Ω_Λ$ of the same order of that in the $Λ$-CDM model. Possible relations between the de Sit…

We consider scalar-Gauss-Bonnet and modified Gauss-Bonnet gravities and reconstruct these theories from the universe expansion history. In particular, we are able to construct versions of those theories (with and without ordinary matter), in which the matter dominated era makes a transition to the cosmic acceleration epoch. It is remarkable that, in several of the cases under consideration, matter dominance and the deceleration-acceleration transition occur in the presence of matter only. The late-time acceleration epoch is described asymptotically by de Sitter space but may also correspond to…
Some sixty years ago Buchdahl pioneered a program in search of static spherically symmetric vacua for pure $R^{2}$ gravity (Nuovo Cimento, Vol 23, No 1, pp 141-157 (1962); [https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/BF02733549]). Surpassing several obstacles, his work culminated in a non-linear second-order ordinary differential equation (ODE) which required being solved. However Buchdahl deemed the ODE intractable and prematurely abandoned his pursuit for an analytical solution. We have finally managed to break this six-decades-old impasse and accomplish his goal. Reformulating the Buchdahl OD…
We consider the quasilocal thermodynamics of rotating black holes in asymptotically flat and asymptotically anti de Sitter spacetimes. Using the minimal number of intrinsic boundary counterterms inspired by the AdS/CFT correspondence, we find that we are able to carry out an analysis of the thermodynamics of these black holes for virtually all possible values of the rotation parameter and cosmological constant that leave the quasilocal boundary well-defined, going well beyond what is possible with background subtraction methods. Specifically, we compute the quasilocal energy $E$ and angular mo…
We study higher derivative terms associated with scalar field cosmology. We consider a coupling between the scalar field and the geometry inspired by the Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator, given by $α\partial_μ\partial^μϕ\partial_ν\partial^νϕ.$ We investigate the cosmological dynamics in a phase space. For $α>0$, we provide conditions for the stability of de Sitter solutions. In this case the crossing of the phantom divide $w_{DE}=-1$ occurs once; thereafter, the equation of state parameter remains under this line, asymptotically reaching towards the de Sitter solution from below. For $α<0,$ which is …
Beyond Schwarzschild-de Sitter spacetimes: II. An exact non-Schwarzschild metric in pure $R^{2}$ gravity and new anomalous properties of $R^{2}$ spacetimes
The effect of string and quantum gravity inspired minimum-length deformed quantization on a free, massless scalar field is studied on de Sitter background at the level of second quantization. Analytic solution of a field operator is obtained to the first order in deformation parameter. Using this solution we then estimate the two point and four point correlation functions (with respect to the Bunch-Davies vacuum). The field operator shows up a non-linear dependence on creation and annihilation operators, therefore the perturbation spectrum proves to be non-Gaussian. The correction to the power…
We investigate the evolution of the Universe filled with barotropic perfect fluid in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity. We consider both the isotropic and the anisotropic universe. At the early stage when the energy density is high, the evolution is modified considerably compared with that in general relativity. For the equation-of-state parameter $w>0$, the initial singularity is not accompanied as it was discovered for radiation in earlier work. More interestingly, for pressureless dust ($w=0$), the initial state approaches a de Sitter state. This fact opens a new possibility of singula…
Inspired by some recent works of Lovelock Brans-Dicke gravity and mimetic gravity, cosmology solutions in extensions of these two modified gravities are investigated. A non-local term is added to the Lovelock Brans-Dicke action and Gauss-Bonnet terms to the mimetic action, correspondingly. De Sitter and power scale factor solutions are then obtained in both theories. They can provide natural new approaches to a more accurate description of the unverse evolution.
The "twin paradox" of special relativity offers the possibility to make interstellar flights within a lifetime. For very long journeys with velocities close to the speed of light, however, we have to take into account the expansion of the universe. Inspired by the work of Rindler on hyperbolic motion in curved spacetime, we study the worldline of a uniformly accelerated observer in de Sitter spacetime and the communication between the traveling observer and an observer at rest.

In our previous paper (Phys. Rev. D 94, 104030 (2016)), inspired by the work of Allen and Turyn (Nucl. Phys. B 292, 813 (1987)), we expressed the graviton two-point function in terms of maximally symmetric bitensors in de Sitter spacetime. Quite contrary to the result of their work, however, we explicitly showed that the de Sitter symmetry breaking is universal and the associated infrared divergences cannot be gauged away. In this Letter, the origin of this contradiction, which is greatly related to the well-known scientific dispute about the infrared behavior of the graviton two-point functio…
Since the Randall-Sundrum 1999 papers, braneworlds have been a favourite playground to test string inspired cosmological models. The subject has developped into two main directions : elaborating more complex models in order to strenghten the connection with string theories, and trying to confront them with observations, in particular the Cosmic Microwave Background anisotropies. We review here the latter and see that, even in the simple, "paradigmatic", case of a single expanding brane in a 5D anti-de Sitter bulk, there is still a missing link between the "view from the brane" and the "view fr…

Some years ago Dray and 't Hooft found the necessary and sufficient conditions to introduce a gravitational shock wave in a particular class of vacuum solutions to Einstein's equations. We extend this work to cover cases where non-vanishing matter fields and cosmological constant are present. The sources of gravitational waves are massless particles moving along a null surface such as a horizon in the case of black holes. After we discuss the general case we give many explicit examples. Among them are the $d$-dimensional charged black hole (that includes the 4-dimensional Reissner-Nordström an…
For theories formulated with a maximally symmetric momentum space we propose a general characterization for the description of interactions in terms of the isometry group of the momentum space. The well known cases of $κ$-Poincaré-inspired and (2+1)-dimensional gravity-inspired composition laws both satisfy our condition. Future applications might include the proposal of a class of models based on momenta spaces with anti-de Sitter geometry.
Massless minimally coupled quantum scalar field with an asymmetric self interaction, $V(ϕ)=λϕ^4/4!+ βϕ^3/3! $ (with $λ>0$) is considered in the $(3+1)$-dimensional inflationary de Sitter spacetime. This potential is bounded from below irrespective of the sign of $β$. Earlier computations mostly considered the quartic part. Our chief motivation behind this study is to assess the vacuum expectation values of $V(ϕ)$ and $ϕ$, both of which can be negative, and hence may lead to some screening of the inflationary cosmological constant value. First using the in-in formalism, the renormalised quantum…

This paper shows the need of the emergence of a universal minimum speed in the space-time by means of a more thorough investigation of Dirac's large number hypothesis (LNH). We will realize that there should be a minimum speed $V$ with the same status of the invariance of the speed of light $c$, however $V$ has gravitational origin. Hence, such a minimum speed forms a new kinematic basis in the space-time, thus leading to a new Deformed Special Relativity (DSR) for the quantum world so-called Symmetrical Special Relativity (SSR). Furthermore, we will show that such a new structure of space-tim…
In this paper, inspired by the holographic dual of the entanglement entropy, we consider the behaviour of extremal, codimension two, spacelike surfaces in the background of three and four dimensional charged boson stars in asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime. We find conditions for which families of minimal area surfaces fail to contain the entire bulk spacetime and construct a phase diagram showcasing the transition between regimes. In addition, we use the relation between the star's mass and the central density of the scalar field to argue for a possible instability of such hollow soluti…
We investigate a string-inspired scenario associated with a rolling massive scalar field on D-branes and discuss its cosmological implications. In particular, we discuss cosmological evolution of the massive scalar field on the ant-D3 brane of KKLT vacua. Unlike the case of tachyon field, because of the warp factor of the anti-D3 brane, it is possible to obtain the required level of amplitude of density perturbations. We study the spectra of scalar and tensor perturbations generated during the rolling scalar inflation and show that our scenario satisfies the observational constraint coming fro…
We investigate several problems in relativity and particle physics where symmetries play a central role; in all cases geometric properties of Lie groups and their quotients are related to physical effects. The first part is concerned with symmetries in gravity. We apply the theory of Lie group deformations to isometry groups of exact solutions in general relativity, relating the algebraic properties of these groups to physical properties of the spacetimes. We then make group deformation local, generalising deformed special relativity (DSR) by describing gravity as a gauge theory of the de Sitt…
We show that a string-inspired Planck scale modification of general relativity can have observable cosmological effects. Specifically, we present a complete analysis of the inflationary perturbation spectrum produced by a phenomenological Lagrangian that has a standard form on large scales but incorporates a string-inspired short distance cutoff, and find a deviation from the standard result. We use the de Sitter calculation as the basis of a qualitative analysis of other inflationary backgrounds, arguing that in these cases the cutoff could have a more pronounced effect, changing the shape of…
Inspired by the universality of computation, we advocate for a principle of spacetime complexity, where gravity arises as a consequence of spacetime optimizing the computational cost of its own quantum dynamics. This principle is explicitly realized in the context of the Anti-de Sitter/Conformal Field Theory correspondence, where complexity is naturally understood in terms of state preparation via Euclidean path integrals, and Einstein's equations emerge from the laws of quantum complexity. We visualize spacetime complexity using Lorentzian threads which, conceptually, represent the operations…
