We have investigated the impact of long-range forces induced by unparticle operators of scalar, vector and tensor nature coupled to fermions in the interpretation of solar neutrinos and KamLAND data. If the unparticle couplings to the neutrinos are mildly non-universal, such long-range forces will not factorize out in the neutrino flavour evolution. As a consequence large deviations from the observed standard matter-induced oscillation pattern for solar neutrinos would be generated. In this case, severe limits can be set on the infrared fix point scale, Lambda_u, and the new physics scale, M, as a function of the ultraviolet (d_UV) and anomalous (d) dimension of the unparticle operator. For a scalar unparticle, for instance, assuming the non-universality of the lepton couplings to unparticles to be of the order of a few per mil we find that, for d_UV=3 and d=1.1, M is constrained to be M > O(10^9) TeV (M > O(10^10) TeV) if Lambda_u= 1 TeV (10 TeV). For given values of Lambda_u and d, the corresponding bounds on M for vector [tensor] unparticles are approximately 100 [3/Sqrt(Lambda_u/TeV)] times those for the scalar case. Conversely, these results can be translated into severe constraints on universality violation of the fermion couplings to unparticle operators with scales which can be accessible at future colliders.
We place limits on scalar and vector unparticle couplings to electrons and neutrinos using data from reactor neutrino experiments originally designed to search for neutrino magnetic moment. Upper bounds on Standard Model lepton-scalar unparticle and lepton-vector unparticle couplings $λ_0$, and $λ_1$ are given for various values of the unparticle mass dimension d, and the unparticle energy scale $Λ_{\cal U}$. Especially for smaller values of the mass dimension d (1 <d <1.3) these bounds are very significant and comparable to those obtained from production rates at high energy colliders. These …
Neutrino-electron scatterings are purely leptonic processes with robust Standard Model (SM) predictions. Their measurements can therefore provide constraints to physics beyond SM. The $\nuebar$-e data taken at the Kuo-Sheng Reactor Neutrino Laboratory were used to probe two scenarios: Non-Standard Neutrino Interactions (NSI) and Unparticle Physics. New constraints were placed to the NSI parameters ($\el$,$\er$) and ($\etl$,$\etr$) for the Non-Universal and Flavor-Changing channels, respectively, as well as to the coupling constants for scalar ($λ_0$) and vector ($λ_1$) unparticles to the neutr…
Interest has been directed recently towards low energy implications of a non-trivial conformal sector of an effective field theory with an IR fixed point (Λ), manifest in terms of ``unparticles'' with bizarre properties. We re-examine the implications of the limits on decay lifetimes of solar neutrinos for unparticle interactions. We study in detail the fundamental parameter space (Λ, M) and derive bounds on the energy scale M characterizing the new physics. We work strictly within the framework where conformal invariance holds down to low energies. We first assume that couplings of the unpart…
We have constrained unparticle interactions with neutrinos and electrons using available data on neutrino-electron elastic scattering and the four CERN LEP experiments data on mono photon production. We have found that, for neutrino-electron elastic scattering, the MUNU experiment gives better constraints than previous reported limits in the region d>1.5. The results are compared with the current astrophysical limits, pointing out the cases where these limits may or may not apply. We also discuss the sensitivity of future experiments to unparticle physics. In particular, we show that the measu…
We show how neutrino data can be used in order to constrain the free parameters of possible extensions to the standard model of elementary particles (SM). For definiteness, we focus in the recently proposed unparticle scenario. We show that neutrino data, in particular the MUNU experiment, can set stronger bounds than previous reported limits in the scale dimension parameter for certain region (d > 1.5). We compute the sensitivity of future neutrino experiments to unparticle physics such as future neutrino-electron scattering detectors, coherent neutrino-nuclei scattering as well as the ILC . …
We discuss the limits on the neutrino magnetic moment and hypothetical interactions with a hidden unparticle sector, coming from the first neutrino data release of the Borexino experiment. The observed spectrum in Borexino depends weakly on the solar model used in the analysis, since most of the signal comes from the mono-energetic 7Be neutrinos. This fact allows us to calibrate the nu-e scattering cross section through the spectral shape. In this way, we have derived a limit on the magnetic moment for the neutrinos coming from the Sun (in which a nu_mu and nu_tau component is present): mu_nu<…
We review the current status of the solar neutrino oscillation parameters. We discuss the conditions under which measurements from future solar neutrino experiments would determine the oscillation parameters precisely. Finally we expound the potential of long baseline reactor anti-neutrino experiments in measuring the solar neutrino oscillation parameters.
We discuss constraints on three flavor neutrino mixings from the accelerator and reactor experiments, the Kamiokande multi-GeV data, and the solar neutrino observations. The LSND result is excluded at 90\%CL by the constraints imposed by all the data of reactor and accelerator experiments and the Kamiokande multi-GeV data if the mass scale required for the solution to the solar neutrino problem is hierarchically small. The region of a set of the effective two-flavor mixing parameters ($Δm^2$, $\sin^22θ$) is given for the channel $ν_μ\rightarrowν_e$ which is allowed at 90\%CL by the multi-GeV K…
New limits for the Violation of Equivalence Principle (VEP) are obtained considering the mass-flavor mixing hypothesis. This analysis includes observations of solar and reactor neutrinos and has obtained a limit for the VEP parameter $|Δγ|$ contributing to the $ν_e$ and $\barν_e$ disappearance channels of the order $|Δγ|<10^{-14}$, when it is assumed that neutrinos are mainly affected by the gravitational potential $φ\approx 10^{-5}$ due to the Great Attractor.
When solar neutrino and KamLAND data are analyzed separately one finds that, even though allowed regions of neutrino parameters overlap, the values of $δm^2$ and the mixing angle $θ_{12}$ at the $χ^2$ minima are different. We show that a non-zero, but small value of the angle $θ_{13}$ can account for this behavior. From the joint analysis of solar neutrino and KamLAND data we find the best fit value of $\sin^2 2 θ_{13} = 0.01 ^{-0.01}_{+0.09}$.
We present a short review of the existing evidence in favor of neutrino mass and neutrino oscillations which come from different kinds of experiments. We focus our attention in particular on solar neutrinos, presenting a review of some recent analysis of all available neutrino oscillation evidence in Solar experiments including the recent $SNO CC$ and $NC$ data. We present in detail the power of the reactor experiment KamLAND for discriminating existing solutions to the SNP and giving accurate information on neutrino masses and mixing angles.
We use solar neutrino data to derive stringent bounds on Majorana neutrino transition moments (TMs). Such moments, if present, would contribute to the neutrino-electron scattering cross section and hence alter the signal observed in Super-Kamiokande. Using the latest solar neutrino data, combined with the results of the reactor experiment KamLAND, we perform a simultaneous fit of the oscillation parameters and TMs. Furthermore, we include data from the reactor experiments Rovno, TEXONO and MUNU in our analysis, improving significantly the current constraints on TMs. A comparison with previous …
We review the potential of long and intermediate baseline reactor neutrino experiments in measuring the mass and mixing parameters. The KamLAND experiment can measure the solar mass squared difference very precisely. However it is not at the ideal baseline for measuring the solar neutrino mixing angle. If low-LMA is confirmed by the next results from KamLAND, a reactor experiment with a baseline of 70 km should be ideal to measure precisely the solar neutrino mixing angle. If on the contrary KamLAND re-establishes high-LMA as a viable solution, then a 20--30 km intermediate baseline reactor ex…
We derive the constraints imposed on neutrino masses and mixing angles by performing a combined analysis of the data from the Los Alamos and the other terrestrial neutrino oscillation experiments with the assumption of the flavor-mixing solutions to the solar neutrino problem. In a three-flavor mixing scheme which ignores the possibility of sterile neutrinos, we obtain severe constraints on the pattern of masses and flavor mixing of neutrinos. For example, we show that in the standard Kobayashi-Maskawa type mixing matrix $s_{13}^2 \lsim 10^{-2}$ independent of the choice of the solar neutrino …
Recently T2K gives hint in favor of large reactor angle. Most of the models, with tri-bimaximal mixing at the leading order, can not reproduce such a large mixing angle since they predict typically corrections for the reactor angle of the order of the Cabibbo angle. In this letter, we discuss the possibility to have large reactor angle within the T2K region with maximal atmospheric mixing angle and trimaximal solar mixing angle, through the deviation from tri-bimaximal. We derive the structure of neutrino mass matrix that leads to the large reactor angle leaving maximal atmospheric angle and t…
We perform a phenomenological analysis of neutrino oscillation in a four generation framework introducing an additional sterile neutrino. In such a scenario, more than one pattern is possible that can accommodate three hieararchically different mass squared differences as required by the present experiments. We considered two different spectrums. Choosing the ${Δ{m}}^2$s in the ranges suitable for the LSND, atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillation, limits on the mixing angles are derived, consistent with the most restrictive accelerator and reactor data as well as the atmospheric and solar n…
Most neutrino mass extensions of the standard electroweak model entail non-standard interactions which, in the low energy limit, can be parametrized in term of effective four-fermion operators $ν_αν_β\bar f f $. Typically of sub-weak strength, $ε_{αβ} G_F$, these are characterized by dimensionless coupling parameters, $ε_{αβ}$, which may be relatively sizeable in a wide class of schemes. Here we focus on non-universal (NU) flavor conserving couplings ($α= β$) with electrons ($f = e$) and analyse their impact on the phenomenology of solar neutrinos. We consistently take into account their effec…
In this work we study the phenomenological consequences of the environment dependence of neutrino mass on solar and reactor neutrino phenomenology. Such dependence can be induced, for example, by Yukawa interactions with a light scalar particle which couples to neutrinos and matter and it is expected, among others, in mass varying neutrino scenarios. Under the assumption of one mass scale dominance, we perform a global analysis of solar and KamLAND neutrino data which depends on 4 parameters: the two standard oscillation parameters, Delta m^2 and tan^2(theta), and two new coefficients, which p…
In this work we study the phenomenological consequences of the existence of long-range forces coupled to lepton flavour numbers in solar neutrino oscillations. We study electronic forces mediated by scalar, vector or tensor neutral bosons and analyze their effect on the propagation of solar neutrinos as a function of the force strength and range. Under the assumption of one mass scale dominance, we perform a global analysis of solar and KamLAND neutrino data which depends on the two standard oscillation parameters, Δm^2_{21} and \tan^2θ_{12}, the force coupling constant, its range and, for the…
We consider the problem of determination of the neutrino mass ordering via precise study of the vacuum neutrino oscillations in the JUNO and other future medium baseline reactor neutrino experiments. We are proposing to resolve neutrino mass ordering by determination of the neutrino oscillation parameters from analysis of the data of the reactor experiments and comparison them with the oscillation parameters obtained from analysis of the solar and KamLAND experiments.
The upcoming reactor neutrino experiment, KamLAND, has the ability to explore the Large Mixing Angle (LMA) solution to the solar neutrino problem. Here, we investigate the precision to which KamLAND should be able to measure these parameters, utilizing the distortion of the energy spectrum of reactor neutrinos. Incomplete knowledge of the fuel composition of the reactors will lead to some error on this measurement. We estimate the size of this effect.
In the presence of Non-Standard neutral current Interactions (NSI) a new solution to solar neutrino anomaly with $\cos 2θ_{12}<0$ appears. We investigate how this solution can be tested by upcoming intermediate baseline reactor experiments, JUNO and RENO-50. We point out a degeneracy between the two solutions when both hierarchy and the $θ_{12}$ octant are flipped. We then comment on how this degeneracy can be partially lifted by long baseline experiments sensitive to matter effects such as the NOvA experiment.
We point out that the recent data from the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, together with other relevant measurements from solar and reactor neutrino experiments, convincingly show that the flavor transitions of solar neutrinos are affected by Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein (MSW) effects. More precisely, one can safely reject the null hypothesis of no MSW interaction energy in matter, despite the fact that the interaction amplitude (formally treated as a free parameter) is still weakly constrained by the current phenomenology. Such a constraint can be improved, however, by future data from the KamL…
We suggest a would-be solution to the solar neutrino tension why solar neutrinos appear to mix differently from reactor antineutrinos, in theoretical respect. To do that, based on an extended theory with light sterile neutrinos added we derive a general transition probability of neutrinos born with one flavor tuning into a different flavor. Three new mass-squared differences are augmented in the extended theory: two $Δm^2_{\rm ABL}\lesssim{\cal O}(10^{-11})\,{\rm eV}^2$ optimized at astronomical-scale baseline (ABL) oscillation experiments and one $Δm^2_{\rm SBL}\sim{\cal O}(1)\,{\rm eV}^2$ op…
We present an updated analysis of the current solar neutrino data in terms of three-flavor oscillations, including the additional constraints coming from terrestrial neutrino oscillation searches at the CHOOZ (reactor), Super-Kamiokande (atmospheric), and KEK-to-Kamioka (accelerator) experiments. The best fit is reached for the subcase of two-family mixing, and the additional admixture with the third neutrino is severely limited. We discuss the relevant features of the globally allowed regions in the oscillation parameter space, as well as their impact on the amplitude of possible CP-violation…
We show that the combined data from solar neutrino experiments and from the KamLAND reactor neutrino experiment can establish an upper limit on, or detect, potential CPT violation in the neutrino sector of order 10^{-20} GeV to 10^{-21} GeV.
SuperKamiokande (SK) doped with gadolinium has the capability to efficiently identify electron-antineutrinos through inverse beta-decay. Given the size of SK and the number of nuclear reactors in its vicinity, we argue that SK can observe the oscillations of reactor antineutrinos driven by the so-called solar mass-squared difference $Δm^2_{21}$. After only one year of data taking, we estimate that SK can measure $Δm^2_{21}$ with enough precision to help inform the current small tension between existing results from KamLAND and solar neutrino experiments.
We reanalyze the non-standard interaction (NSI) solutions to the solar neutrino problem in the light of the latest solar, atmospheric and reactor neutrino data. We show that such solutions, although preferred by the solar data and consistent with the oscillation description of the atmospheric neutrino data, are ruled out by the first results of the KamLAND reactor experiment, at more than 3_sigma.
We present a reanalysis of nonstandard neutrino-down-quark interactions of electron and tau neutrinos using solar, reactor and accelerator data. In addition updating the analysis by including new solar data from SNO phase III and Borexino, as well as new KamLAND data and solar fluxes, a key role is played in our analysis by the combination of these results with the CHARM data. The latter allows us to better constrain the axial and axial-vector electron and tau-neutrino nonstandard interaction parameters characterizing the deviations from the Standard Model predictions.
We discuss several new ideas for reactor neutrino oscillation experiments with a Large Liquid Scintillator Detector. We consider two different scenarios for a measurement of the small mixing angle $θ_{13}$ with a mobile $\barν_e$ source: a nuclear-powered ship, such as a submarine or an icebreaker, and a land-based scenario with a mobile reactor. The former setup can achieve a sensitivity to $\sin^2 2θ_{13} \lesssim 0.003$ at the 90% confidence level, while the latter performs only slightly better than Double Chooz. Furthermore, we study the precision that can be achieved for the solar paramet…
We consider the determination of the solar neutrino oscillation parameters $Δm^2_{21}$ and $θ_{12}$ by studying oscillations of reactor anti-neutrinos emitted by nuclear power plants (located mainly in France) with a detector installed in the Frejus underground laboratory. The performances of a water Cerenkov detector of 147 kt fiducial mass doped with 0.1% of Gadolinium (MEMPHYS-Gd) and of a 50 kt scale liquid scintillator detector (LENA) are compared. In both cases 3$σ$ uncertainties below 3% on $Δm^2_{21}$ and of about 20% on $\sin^2θ_{12}$ can be obtained after one year of data taking. The…
We show that spin flavor precession solutions to the solar neutrino problem, although preferred by the latest solar data, are ruled out by the first results from the KamLAND reactor experiment, at more than 3_sigma. An illustrative chi2 plot comparing these descriptions with oscillations is given.
In the recent years important discoveries in the field of low energy neutrino physics (E$_ν$ in the $\approx$ MeV range) have been achieved. Results of the solar neutrino experiment SNO show clearly flavor transitions from $ν_e$ to $ν_{μ,τ}$. In addition, the long standing solar neutrino problem is basically solved. With KamLAND, an experiment measuring neutrinos emitted from nuclear reactors at large distances, evidence for neutrino oscillations has been found. The values for the oscillation parameters, amplitude and phase, have been restricted. In this paper the potential of future projects …

In this paper we use solar neutrino data to derive stringent bounds on Majorana neutrino transition moments (TMs). Should such be present, they would contribute to the neutrino--electron scattering cross section and hence alter the signal observed in Super-Kamiokande. Motivated by the growing robustness of the LMA-MSW solution of the solar neutrino problem indicated by recent data, and also by the prospects of its possible confirmation at KamLAND, we assume the validity of this solution, and we constrain neutrino TMs by using the latest global solar neutrino data. We find that all elements of …
There is a well known 2$σ$ tension in the measurements of the solar $Δm^2$ between KamLAND and SNO/Super-KamioKANDE. Precise determination of the solar $Δm^2$ is especially important in connection with current and future long baseline CP violation measurements. Reference \cite{Seo:2018rrb} points out that currently running short baseline reactor neutrino experiments, Daya Bay and RENO, can also constrain solar $Δm^2$ value as demonstrated by a GLoBES simulation with a limited systematic uncertainty consideration. In this work, the publicly available data, from Daya Bay (1,958 days) and RENO (2…
We propose a parametrization of the lepton mixing matrix in terms of an expansion in powers of the deviations of the reactor, solar and atmospheric mixing angles from their tri-bimaximal values. We show that unitarity triangles and neutrino oscillation formulae have a very compact form when expressed in this parametrization, resulting in considerable simplifications when dealing with neutrino phenomenology. The parametrization, which is completely general, should help to establish possible relations between the deviations of the reactor, solar and atmospheric mixing angles from their tri-bimax…
Insofar as the detection of anti-neutrinos from nuclear reactors is concerned, the SNO+ detector -- a 1 kilo-tonne liquid scintillator detector that inherits the experimental infrastructure from the recently finished SNO experiment -- is expected to perform just as well as the KamLAND experiment. The most important difference between these experiments is the distribution of nuclear reactors: whereas KamLAND has 9 nuclear reactor sites within 300 km with a flux-averaged baseline of about 180 km, SNO+ has only 1 within 300 km, with an average baseline of $\approx 750$ km. As a result, the reacto…
At present there is good agreement between the neutrino mass-squared difference determined from the solar neutrino data and the anti-neutrino mass-squared difference determined from the KamLAND reactor anti-neutrino experiment. However, the central values of the two cases differ from each other by about $10^{-5}$ eV$^2$. An improvement in the accuracy of both the solar neutrino experiments and reactor anti-neutrino experiments can establish the existence of a non-zero difference between neutrino and anti-neutrino mass-squared differences and provide a signal for CPT violation. In this paper, w…
We explore the potential of measuring the solar neutrino oscillation parameters in the proposed gadolinium loaded Super-Kamiokande (SK-Gd) detector. Gadolinium dissolved in water can detect neutrons much more efficiently than pure water. This imparts the detector the ability to observe electron type antineutrinos, transforming Super-Kamiokande into a huge reactor antineutrino detector with an event rate approximately 43 times higher than that observed in KamLAND. We simulate the reactor antineutrino data expected in this high statistics detector. We use these prospective data to study the prec…
Here we update our previous global fit of neutrino oscillations by including the recent results which have appeared since the Neutrino-2012 conference. These include the measurements of reactor anti-neutrino disappearance reported by Daya Bay and RENO, together with latest T2K and MINOS data including both disappearance and appearance channels. We also include the revised results from the third solar phase of Super-Kamiokande, SK-III, as well as new solar results from the fourth phase of Super-Kamiokande, SK-IV. We find that the preferred global determination of the atmospheric angle $θ_{23}$ …
We discuss the possibilities of high precision measurement of the solar neutrino mixing angle $θ_\odot \equiv θ_{12}$ in solar and reactor neutrino experiments. The improvements in the determination of $\sin^2θ_{12}$, which can be achieved with the expected increase of statistics and reduction of systematic errors in the currently operating solar and KamLAND experiments, are summarised. The potential of LowNu $ν-e$ elastic scattering experiment, designed to measure the $pp$ solar neutrino flux, for high precision determination of $\sin^2θ_{12}$, is investigated in detail. The accuracy in the m…
In the context of three-neutrino oscillations, we study the possibility of using antineutrinos from nuclear reactors to explore the 10^{-4} {\rm eV^2} < \ms \ltap 8\times 10^{-4} {\rm eV^2} region of the LMA MSW solution of the solar neutrino problem and measure $\ms$ with high precision. The KamLAND experiment is not expected to determine $\ms$ if the latter happens to lie in the indicated region. By analysing both the total event rate suppression and the energy spectrum distortion caused by \barν_e oscillations in vacuum, we show that the optimal baseline of such an experiment is L \sim (20 …
In a previous paper [Phys. Rev. D 83, 113013 (2011)] we have shown that the solar sector data (solar and KamLAND) are sensitive to the parameter theta_14, encoding the admixture of the electron neutrino with a fourth (essentially) sterile mass eigenstate. In that work we evidenced that such data prefer a non-zero value of theta_14 and that such a preference is completely degenerate with that of non-zero theta_13. In this report we show how the evidence of theta_13 > 0, recently emerged from global neutrino data analyses, lifts such a degeneracy and disfavors the case of sterile neutrino mixing…
In the forthcoming months, the KamLAND experiment will probe the parameter space of the solar large mixing angle (LMA) MSW solution as the origin of the solar neutrino deficit with $\nuebar$'s from distant nuclear reactors. If however the solution realized in nature is such that $\Dm2_{sol} \gsim 2 \cdot 10^{-4}$ eV$^2$ (thereafter named the HLMA region), KamLAND will only observe a rate suppression but no spectral distortion and hence it will not have the optimal sensitivity to measure the mixing parameters. In this case, we propose a new medium baseline reactor experiment located at Heilbron…
We analyze the impact of recent solar, atmospheric and reactor data in the determination of the neutrino oscillation parameters, taking into account that both the solar nu_e and the atmospheric nu_mu may convert to a mixture of active and sterile neutrinos. We use the most recent global solar neutrino data, including the 1496-day Super-K neutrino data sample, and we investigate in detail the impact of the SNO neutral current, spectral and day/night data by performing also an analysis using only the charged current rate from SNO. The implications of the first 145.1 days of KamLAND data on the d…
Present neutrino data are consistent with neutrino masses arising from a common seed at some ``neutrino unification'' scale $M_X$. Such a simple theoretical ansatz naturally leads to quasi-degenerate neutrinos that could lie in the electron-volt range with neutrino mass splittings induced by renormalization effects associated with supersymmetric thresholds. In such a scheme the leptonic analogue of the Cabibbo angle $θ_{\odot}$ describing solar neutrino oscillations is nearly maximal. Its exact value is correlated with the smallness of $θ_{reactor}$. These features agree both with latest data …
A new reactor power plant Shika-2, with a power of approximately 4 GW and at a distance of about 88 km from the KamLAND detector is scheduled to start operating in March 2006. We study the impact of the $\barν_e$ flux from this reactor on the sensitivity of the KamLAND experiment to the solar neutrino oscillation parameters. We present results on prospective determination of $Δm^2_\odot$ and $\sin^2θ_\odot$ using the combined data from KamLAND and the solar neutrino experiments, including the effect of the Shika-2 contribution to the KamLAND signal and the latest data from the salt enriched ph…
Recent measurements of the neutrino mixing angles cast doubt on the validity of the so-far popular tri-bimaximal mixing ansatz. We propose a parametrization for the neutrino mixing matrix where the reactor angle seeds the large solar and atmospheric mixing angles, equal to each other in first approximation. We suggest such bi-large mixing pattern as a model building standard, realized when the leading order value of the reactor angle equals the Cabibbo angle.

The neutrino parameters determined from the solar neutrino data and the anti-neutrino parameters determined from KamLAND reactor experiment are in good agreement with each other. However, the best fit points of the two sets differ from each other by about $10^{-5}$ eV$^2$ in mass-square differenc and by about $2^\circ$ in the mixing angle. Future solar neutrino and reactor anti-neutrino experiments are likely to reduce the uncertainties in these measurements. This, in turn, can lead to a signal for CPT violation in terms a non-zero difference between neutrino and anti-neutrino parameters. In t…
Observed reactor and atmospheric neutrino oscillation mixing values appear to be related to the neutrino scale ratio $\sqrt{Δm^2_{sol}/Δ^2_{ATM}}$ in a way that suggest that the neutrino mass matrix can be expanded as a power series by using this ratio as the smallness parameter. This approach provides a simple and natural way to expose the inner hierarchies among neutrino mass terms, which amounts to also explain the solar oscillation mixing as well as solar oscillation scale. We explore a class of mass matrix textures that realize this scenario, for both normal and inverted neutrino mass hie…
We propose an extension of tri-bimaximal mixing to include a non-zero reactor angle $θ_{13}$ while maintaining the tri-bimaximal predictions for the atmospheric angle $θ_{23}=45^o$ and solar angle $θ_{12}=35^o$. We show how such tri-bimaximal-reactor mixing can arise at leading order from the(type I) see-saw mechanism with partially constrained sequential dominance. Partially constrained sequential dominance can be realized in GUT models with a non-Abelian discrete family symmetry, such as $A_4$, spontaneously broken by flavons with a particular vacuum alignment.
Recent T2K, MINOS and Double CHOOZ results, together with global fits of mixing parameters, indicate a sizeable reactor angle theta13 ~ 8 deg which, if confirmed, would rule out tri-bimaximal (TB) lepton mixing. Recently two of us studied the vacuum alignment of the Altarelli-Feruglio A4 family symmetry model including additional flavons in the 1' and 1" representations, leading to so-called "trimaximal" neutrino mixing and allowing a potentially large reactor angle. Here we show how such a model may arise from a Supersymmetric (SUSY) Grand Unified Theory (GUT) based on SU(5), leading to sum r…
A global analysis of the solar, atmospheric and reactor neutrino data is presented in terms of three-neutrino oscillations. We include the most recent solar neutrino rates of Homestake, SAGE, GALLEX and GNO, as well as the recent 1117 day Super-Kamiokande data sample, including the recoil electron energy spectrum both for day and night periods and we treat in a unified way the full parameter space for oscillations, correctly accounting for the transition from the matter enhanced (MSW) to the vacuum oscillations regime. Likewise, we include in our description conversions with $θ_{12} > π/4$. Fo…
This article summarises the status of the solar neutrino oscillation phenomenology at the end of 2002 in the light of the SNO and KamLAND results. We first present the allowed areas obtained from global solar analysis and demonstrate the preference of the solar data towards the Large-Mixing-Angle (LMA) MSW solution. A clear confirmation in favor of the LMA solution comes from the \kl reactor neutrino data. The \kl spectral data in conjunction with the global solar data further narrows down the allowed LMA region and splits it into two allowed zones -- a low $Δm^2$ region (low-LMA) and high $Δm…
By combining the inputs from the neutrinoless double beta decay and the fits of cosmological models of dark matter with solar and atmospheric neutrino data, we obtain constraints on two of the mixing angles of Majorana neutrinos, which become stronger when coupled with the reactor neutrino data. These constraints are strong enough to rule out Majorana neutrinos if the small angle solution of solar neutrino puzzle is borne out.
