We suggest a would-be solution to the solar neutrino tension why solar neutrinos appear to mix differently from reactor antineutrinos, in theoretical respect. To do that, based on an extended theory with light sterile neutrinos added we derive a general transition probability of neutrinos born with one flavor tuning into a different flavor. Three new mass-squared differences are augmented in the extended theory: two $Δm^2_{\rm ABL}\lesssim{\cal O}(10^{-11})\,{\rm eV}^2$ optimized at astronomical-scale baseline (ABL) oscillation experiments and one $Δm^2_{\rm SBL}\sim{\cal O}(1)\,{\rm eV}^2$ optimized at reactor short-baseline (SBL) oscillation experiments. With a so-called composite matter effect that causes a neutrino flavor change via the effects of sinusoidal oscillation including the Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein matter effect, we find that the value of $Δm^2$ measured from reactor antineutrino experiments can be fitted with that from the $^8$B solar neutrino experiments for roughly $Δm^2_1\lesssim10^{-13}\,{\rm eV}^2$ and $Δm^2_2\simeq{\cal O}(10^{-11})\,{\rm eV}^2$. Nonetheless, we find that the current data (solar neutrino alone) is not precise enough to test the proposed scenario. Future precise measurements of $^8$B and $pep$ solar neutrinos may confirm and/or improve the value of $Δ{m}^2_2$.
Using the derivative expansion applied to the Wigner transform of the two - point Green function this is possible to derive the response of various nondissipative currents to the external gauge fields. The corresponding currents are proportional to the momentum space topological invariants. This allows to analyse systematically various anomalous transport phenomena including the anomalous quantum Hall effect and the chiral separation effect. We discuss the application of this methodology both to the solid state physics and to the high energy physics.
The interrelation between quantum anomalies and electromagnetic fields leads to a series of non-dissipative transport effects in QCD. In this work we study anomalous transport phenomena with lattice QCD simulations using improved staggered quarks in the presence of a background magnetic field. In particular, we calculate the conductivities both in the free case and in the interacting case, analysing the dependence of these coefficients with several parameters, such as the temperature and the quark mass.
We present a first principles approach to study the Chiral Magnetic Effect during the pre-equilibrium stage of a heavy-ion collision. We discuss the dynamics of the Chiral Magnetic Effect and Chiral Magnetic Wave based on real-time lattice simulations with dynamical (Wilson and Overlap) fermions simultaneously coupled to color and electromagnetic fields. While for light quarks we observe a dissipation-less transport of charges as in anomalous hydrodynamics, we demonstrate that for heavier quarks the effects of explicit chiral symmetry breaking lead to a significant reduction of the associated …
A derivation of the anomaly-induced transport phenomena---the chiral magnetic/vortical effect---is revisited based on the imaginary-time formalism of quantum field theory. Considering the simplest anomalous system composed of a single Weyl fermion, we provide two derivations: perturbative (one-loop) evaluation of the anomalous transport coefficient, and the anomaly matching for the local thermodynamic functional.
Chiral anomaly implies the existence of non-dissipative transport phenomena, such as the chiral magnetic effect. At second order in the derivative expansion, novel quantum transport phenomena emerge. In this paper, we focus on the anomalous transport driven by a combination of shear, vorticity and magnetic field. We find that the corresponding transport phenomena -- shear-induced chiral magnetic and chiral vortical effects (siCME and siCVE) -- induce characteristic charge correlations among the hadrons produced in heavy ion collisions. We propose the charge asymmetry of triangular flow as a si…
The effect of quark anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) to chiral restoration and deconfinement phase transitions in baryon chemical potential-temperature $(μ_B-T)$ plane under magnetic fields is investigated in frame of a Pauli-Villars regularized PNJL model. It's found that the quark AMM plays the role of inverse catalysis to the phase transitions, and large quark AMM will change the magnetic catalysis phenomena of phase transitions to inverse magnetic catalysis in the whole $μ_B-T$ plane. For a fixed magnetic field, the critical temperature $T_c$ and critical baryon chemical potential $μ_B^c$ d…
The hot and dense matter generated in heavy-ion collisions may contain domains which are not invariant under P and CP transformations. Moreover, heavy-ion collisions can generate extremely strong magnetic fields as well as electric fields. The interplay between the electromagnetic field and triangle anomaly leads to a number of macroscopic quantum phenomena in these P- and CP-odd domains known as the anomalous transports. The purpose of the article is to give a pedagogical review of various properties of the electromagnetic fields, the anomalous transports phenomena, and their experimental sig…
Models of gauged $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ can provide a solution to the long-standing discrepancy between the theoretical prediction for the muon anomalous magnetic moment and its measured value. The extra contribution is due to a new light vector mediator, which also helps to alleviate an existing tension in the determination of the Hubble parameter. In this article, we explore ways to probe this solution via the scattering of solar neutrinos with electrons and nuclei in a range of experiments and considering high and low solar metallicity scenarios. In particular, we reevaluate Borexino constraints …
Spin rotation and depolarization of high-energy particles in crystals at Hadron Collider (LHC) and Future Circular Collider (FCC) energies and the possibility to measure the anomalous magnetic moments of short-lived particles
The Berry curvature involving time and momentum derivatives, which we term emergent electric field, induces a nondisspative current known as the adiabatic charge pumping or Thouless pumping in periodically driven systems. We study dissipative currents originated from the interplay between emergent electric fields and electric/magnetic fields in two and three dimensions on the basis of the Boltzmann transport theory. As an example of two-dimensional models, we study the Rashba Hamiltonian with time-dependent and anisotropic spin-orbit coupling. We show that the interplay between emergent electr…
What do the orbital motions of the outer planets of the Solar System tell us about the Pioneer anomaly?
Relativistic heavy-ion collisions create hot quark-gluon plasma as well as very strong electromagnetic (EM) and fluid vortical fields. The strong EM field and vorticity can induce intriguing macroscopic quantum phenomena such as chiral magnetic, chiral separation, chiral electric separation, and chiral vortical effects as well as the spin polarization of hadrons. These phenomena provide us with experimentally feasible means to study the nontrivial topological sector of quantum chromodynamics, the possible parity violation of strong interaction at high temperature, and the subatomic spintronics…
We investigate the anomalous triangle singularity (ATS) and its possible manifestations in various processes. We show that the ATS should have important impact on our understanding of the nature of some newly observed threshold states. Discussions on how to distinguish the ATS phenomena from genuine dynamic pole structures are presented.
We investigate novel transport phenomena in a chiral fluid originated from an interplay between a vorticity and strong magnetic field, which induces a redistribution of vector charges in the system and an axial current along the magnetic field. The corresponding transport coefficients are obtained from an energy-shift argument for the chiral fermions in the lowest Landau level (LLL) due to a spin-vorticity coupling and also from diagrammatic computations on the basis of the linear response theory. Based on consistent results from the both methods, we observe that the transport coefficients are…
We discuss a number of examples for recent connections between emergent phenomena in many-body systems in atomic and condensed matter physics, and confinement and other non-perturbative effects in quantum chromodynamics.
