In a recent paper [hep-lat/0701012] we presented precise lattice QCD results of our European Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC). They were obtained by employing two mass-degenerate flavours of twisted mass fermions at maximal twist. In the present paper we give details on our simulations and the computation of physical observables. In particular, we discuss the problem of tuning to maximal twist, the techniques we have used to compute correlators and error estimates. In addition, we provide more information on the algorithm used, the autocorrelation times and scale determination, the evaluation of disconnected contributions and the description of our data by means of chiral perturbation theory formulae.
We present results for the eta prime meson and the topological susceptibility in two flavour lattice QCD. The results are obtained using Wilson twisted mass fermions at maximal twist with pion masses ranging from 340 MeV down to the physical point. A comparison to literature values is performed giving a handle on discretisation effects.
The Adaptive Aggregation-based Domain Decomposition Multigrid method (arXiv:1303.1377) is extended for two degenerate flavors of twisted mass fermions. By fine-tuning the parameters we achieve a speed-up of the order of hundred times compared to the conjugate gradient algorithm for the physical value of the pion mass. A thorough analysis of the aggregation parameters is presented, which provides a novel insight into multigrid methods for lattice QCD independently of the fermion discretization.
We present the Adaptive Aggregation-based Domain Decomposition Multigrid method extended to the twisted mass fermion discretization action. We show comparisons of results as a function of tuning the parameters that enter the twisted mass version of the DDalphaAMG library (https://github.com/sbacchio/DDalphaAMG). Moreover, we linked the DDalphaAMG library to the tmLQCD software package and give details on the performance of the multigrid solver during HMC simulations at the physical point.

We present results for the nucleon electromagnetic and axial form factors using an N$_f$=2 twisted mass fermion ensemble with pion mass of about 131 MeV. We use multiple sink-source separations to identify excited state contamination. Dipole masses for the momentum dependence of the form factors are extracted and compared to experiment, as is the nucleon magnetic moment and charge and magnetic radii.
We present results on the isovector and isoscalar nucleon axial form factors including disconnected contributions, using an ensemble of $N_f =2$ twisted mass clover- improved Wilson fermions simulated with approximately the physical value of the pion mass. The light disconnected quark loops are computed using exact deflation, while the strange and the charm quark loops are evaluated using the truncated solver method. Techniques such as the summation and the two-state fits have been employed to access ground-state dominance.
We compute the low lying eigenvalues of the Hermitian Dirac operator in lattice QCD with $N_{\rm f} = 2+1+1$ twisted mass fermions. We discuss whether these eigenvalues are in the $ε$-regime or the $p$-regime of Wilson chiral perturbation theory ($χ$PT) for twisted mass fermions. Reaching the deep $ε$-regime is practically unfeasible with presently typical simulation parameters, but still the few lowest eigenvalues of the employed ensemble evince some characteristic $ε$-regime features. With this conclusion in mind, we develop a fitting strategy to extract two low energy constants from analyti…
The latest results from the Twisted-Mass collaboration on disconnected diagrams at the physical value of the pion mass are presented. In particular, we focus on the sigma terms, the axial charges and the momentum fraction, all of them for the nucleon. A detailed error analysis for each observable follows, showing the strengths and weaknesses of the one-end trick. Alternatives are discussed.
We show that maximally twisted mass fermions can be employed to regularize on the lattice the fully unquenched QCD+QED theory with vanishing $θ$-term. We discuss how the critical mass of the up and down quarks can be conveniently determined beyond the electroquenched approximation by imposing that certain symmetries of continuum QCD+QED, which are broken by Wilson terms, get restored in the continuum limit. A mixed action setup is outlined that allows to extend beyond the electroquenched approximation the computation (with only O($a^2$) artifacts) of the leading isospin breaking corrections to…
We present the QCD simulation of the first gauge ensemble of two degenerate light quarks, a strange and a charm quark with all quark masses tuned to their physical values within the twisted mass fermion formulation. Results for the pseudoscalar masses and decay constants confirm that the produced ensemble is indeed at the physical parameters of the theory. This conclusion is corroborated by a complementary analysis in the baryon sector. We examine cutoff and isospin breaking effects and demonstrate that they are suppressed through the presence of a clover term in the action.
We present a general strategy aimed at generating $N_f=2+1+1$ configurations with quarks at their physical mass using maximally twisted mass fermions to ensure automatic $O(a)$ improvement, in the presence of a clover term tuned to reduce the charged to neutral pion mass difference. The target system, for the moment, is a lattice of size $64^3 \times 128$ with a lattice spacing $a\sim 0.08$ fm. We show preliminary results on the pion and kaon mass and decay constants.
The masses of the low-lying baryons are evaluated using an ensemble with two degenerate light twisted mass clover-improved quarks with mass tuned to reproduce the physical pion mass. The Iwasaki improved gluonic action is employed. The coupling constant value corresponds to a lattice spacing of $a=0.0938(3)(2)$ fm, determined from the nucleon mass. We find that the clover term supresses isospin symmetry breaking as compared to our previous results using $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass fermions. The masses of the hyperons and charmed baryons evaluated using this ensemble are in agreement with the expe…
