We present a new framework for calculating multi-jet observables through resummation. The framework is based on the factorisation of scattering amplitudes in an asymptotic limit. By imposing simple constraints on the analytic behaviour of the result when applied away from this limit, we get good agreement with the known lowest order perturbative behaviour of the scattering amplitude, and predictions for the behaviour to all orders in the perturbative series. As an example of application we study predictions for Higgs Boson production through gluon fusion at the LHC in association with at least two jets.
We present results of the simulation of electroweak Higgs boson production at the Large Hadron Collider using both the NLO multijet merging and NLO matching frameworks provided by the general purpose event generator Herwig 7. For the simulation of the hard scattering processes, we use the HJets library for the full calculation and VBFNLO for the approximate calculation to compute the $2\to h+n$ amplitudes at tree-level with $n=2,3,4$ and at one-loop with $n=2,3$.
Higher-dimensional multi-gluon interactions affect essentially all effective Lagrangian analyses at the LHC. We show that, contrary to common lore, such operators are best constrained in multi-jet production. Our limit on the corresponding new physics scale in the multi-TeV range exceeds the typical reach of global dimension-6 Higgs and top analyses. This implies that the pure Yang-Mills operator can safely be neglected in almost all specific higher-dimensional analyses at Run II.
We first build a minimal model of vector-like quarks where the dominant Higgs boson production process at LHC -- the gluon fusion -- can be significantly suppressed, being motivated by the recent stringent constraints from the search for direct Higgs production over a wide Higgs mass range. Within this model, compatible with the present experimental constraints on direct Higgs searches, we demonstrate that the Higgs ($h$) production via a heavy vector-like top-partner ($t_2$) decay, $pp \to t_2 \bar t_2$, $t_2\to t h$, allows to discover a Higgs boson at the LHC and measure its mass, through t…
We introduce three alternative angular variables-denoted by $\tildeω_\text{min}$, $\hatω_\text{min}$, and $χ_\text{min}$-for QCD multijet event suppression in supersymmetry searches in events with large missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at CERN. In searches in all-hadronic final states in the CMS and ATLAS experiments, the angle $Δφ_i$, the azimuthal angle between a jet and the missing transverse momentum, is widely used to reduce QCD multijet background events with large missing transverse momentum, which is primarily caused by a jet momentum mismeasurement or…
At the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the most abundant processes which take place in proton-proton collisions are the generation of multijet events. These final states rely heavily on phenomenological models and perturbative corrections which are not fully understood, and yet for many physics searches at the LHC, multijet processes are an important background to deal with. It is therefore imperative that the modelling of multijet processes is better understood and improved. For this reason, a study has been done with several state-of-the-art Monte Carlo event generators, and their predictions a…
Triple gauge boson hadroproduction, in particular the production of three $W$-bosons at the LHC, is considered at next-to leading order accuracy in QCD. The NLO matrix elements are combined with parton showers. Multijet merging is invoked such that NLO matrix elements with one additional jet are also included. The studies here incorporate both the signal and all relevant backgrounds for $VH$ production with the subsequent decay of the Higgs boson into $W$-- or $τ$--\-pairs. They have been performed using \SherpaOpenLoops in combination with Collier.
The ttbar asymmetry measured at the Tevatron continues to disagree with Standard Model predictions at the 3 sigma level. We update the status of the phenomenological light axigluon model in explaining the asymmetry data, taking into account constraints from the charge asymmetry at the LHC and the ttbar cross section at both Tevatron and LHC. We find that an axigluon with a mass between 100 and 400 GeV provides an excellent fit to the data. Recent searches by ATLAS and CMS for pair production of heavy resonances which decay to dijets rule out axigluons with large branching fractions to dijets. …

Some of the cleanest signals for new physics in the early runs of the LHC will involve strongly-produced particles which give rise to multiple leptons by undergoing cascade decays through weakly-interacting states to stable particles. Some of the most spectacular final states will involve three or more leptons, multiple jets and generally missing energy-momentum as well. A triad of the most interesting models of new physics which induce such signals is known to consist of (i) supersymmetry with R-parity conservation, (ii) a universal extra dimension with conservation of KK-parity and (iii) lit…
We consider electro-weak Higgs plus three jets production at NLO QCD beyond strict VBF acceptance cuts. We investigate, for the first time, how accurate the VBF approximation is in these regions and within perturbative uncertainties, by a detailed comparison of full and approximate calculations. We find that a rapidity gap between the tagging jets guarantees a good approximation, while an invariant mass cut alone is not sufficient, which needs to be confronted with experimental choices. We also find that a significant part of the QCD corrections can be attributed to Higgs-Strahlungs-type topol…
W+jets, Z+jets and QCD multijet production processes at hadron colliders are backgrounds to many searches for physics beyond the Standard Model which involve leptons and missing energy in the final state. We review the current theoretical and experimental status of these processes at the LHC. Furthermore, we discuss several methods that allow for reliable predictions for these processes in the context of new-physics searches.
Recently it was shown that there is a class of models in which colored vector and scalar resonances can be copiously produced at the Tevatron with decays to multijet final states, consistent with all experimental constraints and having strong discovery potential. We investigate the collider phenomenology of TeV scale colored resonances at the LHC and demonstrate a strong discovery potential for the scalars with early data as well as the vectors with additional statistics. We argue that the signal can be self-calibrating and using this fact we propose a search strategy which we show to be robus…
A novel method is proposed here to precisely model the multi-dimensional features of QCD multi-jet events in hadron collisions. The method relies on the schematization of high-pT QCD processes as 2->2 reactions made complex by sub-leading effects. The construction of libraries of hemispheres from experimental data and the definition of a suitable nearest-neighbor-based association map allow for the generation of artificial events that reproduce with surprising accuracy the kinematics of the QCD component of original data, while remaining insensitive to small signal contaminations. The method i…
We study resonant pair production of heavy particles in fully hadronic final states by means of jet substructure techniques. We propose a new resonance tagging strategy that smoothly interpolates between the highly boosted and fully resolved regimes, leading to uniform signal efficiencies and background rejection rates across a broad range of masses. Our method makes it possible to efficiently replace independent experimental searches, based on different final state topologies, with a single common analysis. As a case study, we apply our technique to pair production of Higgs bosons decaying in…
We examine the first ATLAS Collaboration 8 TeV 5.8/fb supersymmetry (SUSY) multijet data observations in the context of No-Scale Flipped SU(5) with extra TeV-Scale vector-like flippon multiplets, dubbed F-SU(5), finding that the recent 8 TeV collider data is statistically consistent with our prior 7 TeV results. Furthermore, we synthesize all currently ongoing experiments searching for beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics with this fit to the 8 TeV data, establishing a suggestive global coherence within a No-Scale F-SU(5) high-energy framework. The SUSY mass scale consistent with all BSM da…
We study $W$-boson production accompanied by multiple jets at 7 TeV at the LHC. We study the jet-production ratio, of total cross sections for $W$+$n$- to $W$+($n-1$)-jet production, and the ratio of distributions in the total transverse hadronic jet energy $H_{\rm T}^{\rm jets}$. We use the ratios to extrapolate the total cross section, and the differential distribution in $H_{\rm T}^{\rm jets}$, to $W$+6-jet production. We use the BlackHat software library in conjunction with SHERPA to perform the computations.
We present a fully automated implementation of next-to-leading order electroweak (NLO EW) corrections in the OpenLoops matrix-element generator combined with the Sherpa and Munich Monte Carlo frameworks. The process-independent character of the implemented algorithms opens the door to NLO QCD+EW simulations for a vast range of Standard Model processes, up to high particle multiplicity, at current and future colliders. As a first application, we present NLO QCD+EW predictions for the production of positively charged on-shell W bosons in association with up to three jets at the Large Hadron Coll…
We establish that the light Higgs boson mass in the context of the No-Scale Flipped SU(5) GUT with TeV scale vector-like matter multiplets (flippons) is consistent with m_h = 125.5+-0.5 GeV in the region of the best supersymmetry (SUSY) spectrum fit to low statistics data excesses observed by ATLAS in multijet and light stop 5/fb SUSY searches at the LHC7. Simultaneous satisfaction of these disparate goals is achieved by employing a minor decrease in the SU(5) partial unification scale M_{32} to lower the flippon mass, inducing a larger Higgs boson mass shift from the flippon loops. The reduct…
We use modern jet-substructure techniques to propose LHC searches for multijet-resonance signals without leptons or missing energy. We focus on three-jet resonances produced by R-parity-violating decays of boosted gluinos, showing that shape analyses searching for a mass peak can probe such gluinos up to masses of ~ 750 GeV (650 GeV) with 20/fb (5/fb) at the LHC at 8 TeV. This complements existing search strategies, which also include counting methods that are inherently more prone to systematic uncertainties. Since R-parity-violating gluinos lighter than all squarks hadronize before decaying,…
Universal Extra Dimension (UED) is a well-motivated and well-studied scenario. One of the main motivations is the presence of a dark matter (DM) candidate namely, the lightest level-1 Kaluza-Klein (KK) particle (LKP), in the particle spectrum of UED. The minimal version of UED (mUED) scenario is highly predictive with only two parameters namely, the radius of compactification and cut-off scale, to determine the phenomenology. Therefore, stringent constraint results from the WMAP/PLANCK measurement of DM relic density (RD) of the universe. The production and decays of level-1 quarks and gluons …
While the presence of a light stop is increasingly disfavored by the experimental limits set on R-parity conserving scenarios, the naturalness of supersymmetry could still be safely concealed in the more challenging final states predicted by the existence of non-null R-parity violating couplings. Although R-parity violating signatures are extensively looked for at the Large Hadron Collider, these searches always assume 100\% branching ratios for the direct decays of supersymmetric particles into Standard Model ones. In this paper we scrutinize the implications of relaxing this assumption by fo…
We discuss recently proposed observables, sensitive to BFKL dynamics, in the context of multijet production at the large hadron collider (LHC). In particular, we consider ratios of azimuthal angle differences in final states with three jets, well separated in rapidity from each other, with two of them being very forward/backward and the third one in the central region.
This letter presents results for the two-loop matching coefficients for the dimension eight operators that contribute to Higgs production via gluon fusion. The coefficients can be used to calculate the first correction to the infinite top mass limit to Higgs production with large transverse momentum at two loops. To date such processes have been studied at two loop order only in the leading term in the top mass expansion. These corrections become enhanced in processes with large final state invariant mass, typical of multijet processes.
Precision measurement of the cross section for single top production is an important test of the Standard Model (SM). The purity of the collected data in single top events is limited by the understanding of the shape and yield of background contributions. Besides electroweak and $\rm{t\bar{t}}$ processes, QCD multijet events constitute a non-negligible background for the considered signal bq$'\rightarrow$ tq ($\textit{t}$-channel) process. The data-driven technique for constraining QCD contribution, employed in the measurement of the $\textit{t}$-channel single top-quark cross section using th…
In this contribution, we study the resonant pair production of heavy particles in hadronic final states using jet substructure techniques. We discuss a recently proposed resonance tagging strategy, which interpolates between the highly boosted and fully resolved regimes, leading to uniform signal efficiencies and background rejection rates for a broad range of masses. With this method, one can efficiently replace independent experimental searches, based on different final state topologies, with a single common analysis. We show using this strategy that the LHC has sensitivity to the enhanced r…
We study the potential LHC discovery of the Z1 KK gauge boson unitarizing longitudinal W+W- scattering amplitude. In particular, we explore the decay mode Z1->t tbar along with Z1-> W+W- without specifying the branching fractions. We propose to exploit the associated production pp-> W Z1, and select the final state of like-sign dileptons plus multijets and large missing energy. We conclude that it is possible to observe the Z1 resonance at a 5 sigma level with an integrated luminosity of 100 inverse fb at the LHC upto 650 GeV for a dominant WW channel, and 560 GeV for a dominant ttbar channel.
This letter presents a study of the inclusive production of X$\rightarrow b\bar{b}$ plus a recoil, using simulated samples of $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV for an integrated luminosity in the range between 30 fb$^{-1}$ to 3 ab$^{-1}$. The case for experiments to include un-prescaled $b$-tag multijet triggers for this topology is made and the ideal jet thresholds are discussed. The sensitivity to Standard Model Higgs with a transverse momentum of at least 200 GeV is evaluated with respect to a continuous background, dominated by multijet processes. The mass of $b$-jet-pairs is analysed, …
Searches for charged Higgs bosons are an integral part of current and future investigations at the LHC. The LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group (LHCHXSWG) was created to provide cross sections, branching ratios, analysis strategies etc. for Higgs boson searches at the LHC. We briefly review progress and results for charged Higgs bosons in and for the LHCHXSWG.
We celebrate the recent Higgs discovery announcement with our experimental colleagues at the LHC and look forward to the implications that this success will bring to bear upon the continuing search for supersymmetry (SUSY). The model framework named No-Scale F-SU(5) possesses the rather unique capacity to provide a light CP-even Higgs boson mass in the favored 124-126 GeV window while simultaneously retaining a testably light SUSY spectrum that is consistent with emerging low-statistics excesses beyond the Standard Model expectation in the ATLAS and CMS multijet data. In this letter we review …
We review the potential of the LHC to detect a very light CP-odd Higgs boson of the NMSSM, $a_1$, through its direct production in association with a bottom-quark pair at large tan$β$. We also review the LHC discovery potential of the two lightest CP-even Higgs states, decaying into two lighter Higgs states or into the lightest CP-odd Higgs state and the $Z$ gauge boson.
One of the major goal of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is to probe the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism and the generation of the masses of the elementary particles. We review the physics of the Higgs sector in the Standard Model. The main production channels of the Higgs production at the LHC are reviewed. The prospects for the discovering the Higgs particles at the LHC and the study of their fundamental properties are summarizes.
We present next-to-leading order (NLO) predictions including QCD and electroweak (EW) corrections for the production and decay of off-shell electroweak vector bosons in association with up to two jets at the 13 TeV LHC. All possible dilepton final states with zero, one or two charged leptons that can arise from off-shell W and Z bosons or photons are considered. All predictions are obtained using the automated implementation of NLO QCD+EW corrections in the OpenLoops matrix-element generator combined with the Munich and Sherpa Monte Carlo frameworks. Electroweak corrections play an especially …
In this talk I discuss the status and future prospects of testing the Higgs self-couplings at the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) as well as several Beyond Standard Model (BSM) scenarios that could be probed via Higgs pair production in the coming years.
We review the most relevant LHC searches at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV looking for low mass bosons arising from exotic decay of the Standard Model Higgs and highlighting their impact on both supersymmetric and not supersymmetric Beyond the Standard Model scenarios.
We update our analysis of the Higgs sector masses in Minimal Supersymmetry and in the Two-Higgs Doublet Model to the final ATLAS and CMS data from the 2011-2012 LHC run.
Following recent ATLAS and CMS publications we interpret the results of their Higgs searches in terms of Standard Model operators. For a Higgs mass of 125 GeV we determine several Higgs couplings from 2011 data and extrapolate the results towards different scenarios of LHC running. Even though our analysis is limited by low statistics we already derive meaningful constraints on modified Higgs sectors.
Light states associated with the hierarchy problem affect the Higgs LHC production and decays. We illustrate this within the MSSM and two simple extensions applying the latest bounds from LHC Higgs searches. Large deviations in the Higgs properties are expected in a natural SUSY spectrum. The discovery of a non-Standard-Model Higgs may signal the presence of light stops accessible at the LHC. Conversely, the more the Higgs is Standard-Model-like, the more tuned the theory becomes. Taking the ratio of different Higgs decay channels at the LHC cancels the leading QCD uncertainties and potentiall…
LHC constraints on Higgs-portal WIMPs are studied. Scalar, vector and anti-symmetric tensor fields are considered. They are assumed to be heavier than a half of the Higgs boson mass. We investigate 8 TeV LHC results on signatures of the vector boson fusion, mono-jet and associated production of the $Z$ boson, which proceed via virtual exchange of the Higgs boson. We show that Higgs-portal interactions of the vector and tensor WIMPs are constrained to be less than 0.43 and 0.16, respectively, while those for the scalar are very weak. Prospects of the 14 TeV LHC are also discussed.
In the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT), we study the $t$-channel single top production in association with a Higgs boson at 8 and 14 TeV LHC. We find that the cross section can be enhanced obviously in this model compared to the Standard Model. By performing a simple parton-level simulation through $pp\rightarrow t(\rightarrow \ell^{+}νb)h(\rightarrow b\bar{b})j$ at 14 TeV LHC, we find that the observability of the signal is promising in the favorable parameter space.
We propose a method to determine the trilinear Higgs self coupling that is alternative to the direct measurement of Higgs pair production total cross sections and differential distributions. The method relies on the effects that electroweak loops featuring an anomalous trilinear coupling would imprint on single Higgs production at the LHC. We first calculate these contributions to all the phenomenologically relevant Higgs production ($gg{\rm F}$, VBF, $WH$, $ZH$, $t\bar tH$) and decay ($γγ$, $WW^{*}/ZZ^{*}\to 4f$, $b\bar b$, $ττ$) modes at the LHC and then estimate the sensitivity to the trili…
