In [LW], we construct examples of two-dimensional Hamiltonian stationary self-shrinkers and self-expanders for Lagrangian mean curvature flows, which are asymptotic to the union of two Schoen-Wolfson cones. These self-shrinkers and self-expanders can be glued together to yield solutions of the Brakke flow - a weak formulation of the mean curvature flow. Moreover, there is no mass loss along the Brakke flow. In this paper, we generalize these results to higher dimension. We construct new higher dimensional Hamiltonian stationary cones of different topology as generalizations of the Schoen-Wolfson cones. Hamiltonian stationary self-shrinkers and self-expanders that are asymptotic to these Hamiltonian stationary cones are also constructed. They can also be glued together to produce eternal solutions of the Brakke flow without mass loss. Finally, we show the same conclusion holds for those Lagrangian self-similar examples recently found by Joyce, Tsui and the first author in [JLT].
We show that any closed oriented immersed Hamiltonian stationary isotropic surface $Σ$ with genus $g_Σ$ in $S^{5}\subset\mathbb{C}^{3}$ is (1) Legendrian and minimal if $g_Σ=0$; (2) either Legendrian or with exactly $2g_Σ-2$ Legendrian points if $g_Σ\geq1.$ In general, every compact oriented immersed isotropic submanifold $L^{n-1}\subset S^{2n-1}\subset\mathbb{C}^{n}$ such that the cone $C\left( L^{n-1}\right) $ is Hamiltonian stationary must be Legendrian and minimal if its first Betti number is zero. Corresponding results for non-orientable links are also provided.
A Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian submanifold of a Kaehler manifold is a Lagrangian submanifold whose volume is stationary under Hamiltonian variations. We find a sufficient condition on the curvature of a Kaehler manifold of real dimension four that guarantees the existence of a family of small Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian tori.
For a sequence of immersed connected closed Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian submaniolds in $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ with uniform bounds on their volumes and the total extrinsic curvatures, we prove that a subsequence converges either to a point or to a Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian $n$-varifold locally uniformly in $C^{k}$ for any nonnegative integer $k$ away from a finite set of points, and the limit is Hamiltonian stationary in ${\mathbb{C}}^{n}$. We also obtain a theorem on extending Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian submanifolds $L$ across a compact set $N$ of Hausdorff codimension at least …
We construct examples of shrinkers and expanders for Lagrangian mean curvature flows. These examples are Hamiltonian stationary and asymptotic to the union of two Hamiltonian stationary cones found by Schoen and Wolfson. The Schoen-Wolfson cones $C_{p,q}$ are obstructions to the existence problems of special Lagrangians or Lagrangian minimal surfaces in the variational approach. It is known that these cone singularities cannot be resolved by any smooth oriented Lagrangian submanifolds. The shrinkers and expanders that we found can be glued together to yield solutions of the Brakke motion-a wea…
In this paper, we prove that any $C^{1}$-regular Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian submanifold in a symplectic manifold is smooth. More broadly, we develop a regularity theory for a class of fourth order nonlinear elliptic equations with two distributional derivatives. Our fourth order regularity theory originates in the geometrically motivated variational problem for the volume functional, but should have applications beyond.
We prove a new logarithmic epiperimetric inequality for multiplicity-one stationary cones with isolated singularity by flowing in the radial direction any given trace along appropriately chosen directions. In contrast to previous epiperimetric inequalities for minimal surfaces (e.g. those of Reifenberg, Taylor and White), we need no a priori assumptions on the structure of the cone (e.g. integrability). Moreover, if the cone is integrable (not only through rotations), we recover the classical epiperimetric inequality. As a consequence we deduce a new $\varepsilon$-regularity result for almost …
We consider smooth radial solutions to the Hamiltonian stationary equation which are defined away from the origin. We show that in dimension two all radial solutions on unbounded domains must be special Lagrangian. In contrast, for all higher dimensions there exist non-special Lagrangian radial solutions over unbounded domains; moreover, near the origin, the gradient graph of such a solution is continuous if and only if the graph is special Lagrangian.
We prove a Morrey-type theorem for Hamiltonian stationary submanifolds of $\mathbb{C}^{n}$. Namely, if $L$ $\subset$ $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ is a $C^{1}$ Lagrangian submanifold with weakly harmonic Lagrangian phase $θ,$ then $L$ must be smooth. In the process we also discuss a local version of the equation, which is a nonlinear fourth order double divergence equation of the potential function whose gradient graph defines the Hamiltonian stationary submanifolds locally, and we establish full regularity and removability of singular sets of capacity zero for weak solutions with $C^{1,1}$ norm below a di…
Lagrangian submanifolds of a Kaehler manifold are called Hamiltonian-stationary (or $H$-stationary for short) if it is a critical point of the area functional restricted to compactly supported Hamiltonian variations. In [B. Y. Chen, F. Dillen, L. Verstraelen and L. Vrancken, Lagrangian isometric immersions of a real-space-form $M^{n}(c)$ into a complex-space-form $\tilde{M}^{n}(4c)$, Math. Proc. Cambridge Philo. Soc. 124 (1998), 107-125], an effective method to constructing Lagrangian submanifolds of constant curvature $\varepsilon$ in complex space form $M^n(4\varepsilon)$ was introduced. In …
We construct $\sorth{p} \times \sorth{q}$-invariant special Lagrangian (SL) cones in $\C^{p+q}$. These SL cones are natural higher-dimensional analogues of the $\sorth{2}$-invariant SL cones constructed previously by MH and used in our gluing constructions of higher genus SL cones in $\C^{3}$. We study in detail the geometry of these $\sorth{p}\times \sorth{q}$-invariant SL cones, in preparation for their application to our higher dimensional special Legendrian gluing constructions. In particular the symmetries of these cones and their asymptotics near the spherical limit are analysed. All $\s…
We prove a bubble tree convergence theorem for a sequence of closed Hamiltonian Stationary Lagrangian surfaces with bounded areas and Willmore energies in a complete K{ä}hler surface. We also prove two strong compactness theorems on the space of Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian tori in $\mathbb C^2$ and $\mathbb{CP}^2$ respectively.
We study Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian surfaces in C^2, i.e. Lagrangian surfaces in C^2 which are stationary points of the area functional under smooth Hamiltonian variations. Using loop groups, we propose a formulation of the equation as a completely integrable system. We construct a Weierstrass type representation and produce all tori through either the integrable systems machinery or more direct arguments.
In this paper we generalize examples of Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian submanifolds constructed by Lee and Wang in $\mathbb{C}^m$ to toric almost Calabi-Yau manifolds. We construct examples of weighted Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian submanifolds in toric almost Calabi-Yau manifolds and solutions of generalized Lagrangian mean curvature flows starting from these examples. We allow these flows to have some singularities and topological changes.
Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian spheres in Kaehler-Einstein surfaces are minimal. We prove that in the family of non-Einstein Kaehler surfaces given by the product $Σ_1\timesΣ_2$ of two complete orientable Riemannian surfaces of different constant Gauss curvatures, there is only a (non minimal) Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian sphere. This example is defined when the surfaces $Σ_1$ and $ Σ_2$ are spheres.
We prove an equivariant deformation result for Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian submanifolds of a Kahler manifold, with respect to deformations of its metric and almost complex structure that are compatible with an isometric Hamiltonian group action. This yields existence of Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian submanifolds in possibly non-Kahler symplectic manifolds whose metric is arbitrarily close to a Kahler metric.
We extend the results of Hardt and Simon on area-minimizing cones to prove that isolated singularities of stationary one-sided area-minimizing hypersurfaces can be locally perturbed away on the side that they are minimizing.
The Clifford torus is a torus in a three-dimensional sphere. Homogeneous tori are simple generalization of the Clifford torus which still in a three-dimensional sphere. There is a way to construct tori in a three-dimensional sphere using the Hopf fibration. In this paper, all Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian tori which is contained in a hypersphere in the complex Euclidean plane are constructed explicitly. Then it is shown that they are homogeneous tori. For the construction, flat quaternionic connections of Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian tori are considered and a spectral curve of an asso…
In this work, we prove a compactness theorem on the space of all Hamiltonian stationay Lagrangian submanifolds in a compact symplectic manifold with uniform bounds on area and total extrinsic curvature.
We analyze here Hamiltonian stationary surfaces in the complex projective plane as (local) solutions to an integrable system, formulated as a zero curvature on a loop group. As an application, we show in details why such tori are finite type solutions, and eventually describe the simplest of them: the homogeneous ones.
Let (M,w) be a compact symplectic 2n-manifold, and g a Riemannian metric on M compatible with w. For instance, g could be Kahler, with Kahler form w. Consider compact Lagrangian submanifolds L of M. We call L Hamiltonian stationary, or H-minimal, if it is a critical point of the volume functional under Hamiltonian deformations. It is called Hamiltonian stable if in addition the second variation of volume under Hamiltonian deformations is nonnegative. Our main result is that if L is a compact, Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian in C^n satisfying the extra condition of being Hamiltonian rigid, th…
Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian submanifolds (HSLAG) are a natural generalization of special Lagrangian manifolds (SLAG). The latter only make sense on Calabi-Yau manifolds whereas the former are defined for any almost Kähler manifold. Special Lagrangians, and, more specificaly, fibrations by special Lagrangians play an important role in the context of the geometric mirror symmetry conjecture. However, these objects are rather scarce in nature. On the contrary, we show that HSLAG submanifolds, or fibrations, arise quite often. Many examples of HSLAG fibrations are provided by toric Käh-ler g…
We proved a uniqueness theorem of tangent connections for a Yang-Mills connection with an isolated singularity with a quadratic growth of the curvature at the singularity. We also obtained controls over the rate of the asymptotic convergence of the connection to the tangent connection under assumptions that the connection is stationary or the tangent connection is integrable. There are parallel results for the cones at infinity of a Yang-Mills connection on an asymptotically flat manifold. We also gave an application of our methods to the Yang-Mills flow and proved that the Yang-Mills flow exi…
The multiplier spectral curve of a conformal torus in the 4-sphere is essentially, see arXiv:0712.2311, given by all Darboux transforms of the conformal torus. In the particular case when the conformal immersion is a Hamiltonian stationary torus in Euclidean 4-space, the left normal of the immersion is harmonic, hence we can associate a second Riemann surface: the eigenline spectral curve of the left normal, as defined by Hitchin. We show that the multiplier spectral curve of a Hamiltonian stationary torus and the eigenline spectral curve of its left normal are biholomorphic Riemann surfaces o…
This paper is the third of a series on Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian surfaces. We present here the most general theory, valid for any Hermitian symmetric target space. Using well-chosen moving frame formalism, we show that the equations are equivalent to an integrable system, generalizing the C^2 subcase analyzed in the first article (arXiv:math.DG/0009202). This system shares many features with the harmonic map equation of surfaces into symmetric spaces, allowing us to develop a theory close to Dorfmeister, Pedit and Wu's, including for instance a Weierstrass-type representation. Notice t…
Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangians are Lagrangian submanifolds that are critical points of the volume functional under Hamiltonian deformations. They can be considered as a generalization of special Lagrangians or Lagrangian and minimal submanifolds. Joyce, Schoen and the author show that given any compact rigid Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian in $\C^n$, one can always find a family of Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangians of the same type in any compact symplectic manifolds with a compatible metric. The advantage of this result is that it holds in very general classes. But the disadvantage is …
It is known that all weakly conformal Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian immersions of tori in the complex projective plane may be constructed by methods from integrable systems theory. This article describes the precise details of a construction which leads to a form of classification. The immersion is encoded as spectral data in a similar manner to the case of minimal Lagrangian tori in the complex projective plane, but the details require a careful treatment of both the "dressing construction" and the spectral data to deal with a loop of flat connexions which is quadratic in the loop paramet…
This article determines the spectral data, in the integrable systems sense, for all weakly conformally immersed Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian in $\R^4$. This enables us to describe their moduli space and the locus of branch points of such an immersion. This is also an informative example in integrable systems geometry, since the group of ambient isometries acts non-trivially on the spectral data and the relevant energy functional (the area) need not be constant under deformations by higher flows.
On a manifold equipped with a bivector field, we introduce for every Hamiltonian a Lagrangian on paths valued in the cotangent space whose stationary points projects onto Hamiltonian vector fields. We show that the remaining components of those stationary points tell whether the bivector field is Poisson or at least defines an integrable distribution - a class of bivector fields generalizing twisted Poisson structures that we study in detail.
