In this paper, we give a proof of the DDVV conjecture which is a pointwise inequality involving the scalar curvature, the normal scalar curvature and the mean curvature on a submanifold of a real space form. Furthermore we solved the problem of its equality case.
Wintgen ideal submanifolds in space forms are those ones attaining equality pointwise in the so-called DDVV inequality which relates the scalar curvature, the mean curvature and the scalar normal curvature. They are Moebius invariant objects. The mean curvature sphere defines a conformal Gauss map into a Grassmann manifold. We show that any Wintgen ideal submanifold has a Riemannian submersion structure over a Riemann surface with the fibers being round spheres. Then the conformal Gauss map is shown to be a super-conformal and harmonic map from the underlying Riemann surface. Some of our previ…
Wintgen ideal submanifolds in space forms are those ones attaining equality pointwise in the so-called DDVV inequality which relates the scalar curvature, the mean curvature and the scalar normal curvature. Using the framework of Moebius geometry, we show that in the codimension two case, the mean curvature sphere of the Wintgen ideal submanifold corresponds to an 1-isotropic holomorphic curve in a complex quadric Q. Conversely, any 1-isotropic complex curve in Q describes a 2-parameter family of m-dimensional spheres whose envelope is always a m-dimensional Wintgen ideal submanifold at the re…
In order to give a unified generalization of the BW inequality and the DDVV inequality, Lu and Wenzel proposed three Conjectures 1, 2, 3 and an open Question 1 in 2016. In this paper we discuss further these conjectures and put forward several new conjectures which will be shown equivalent to Conjecture 2. In particular, we prove Conjecture 2 and hence all conjectures in some special cases. For Conjecture 3, we obtain a bigger upper bound $2+\sqrt{10}/2$, and we also give a weaker answer for the more general Question 1. In addition, we obtain some new simple proofs of the complex BW inequality…
The Positive Mass Conjecture states that any complete asymptotically flat manifold of nonnnegative scalar curvature has nonnegative mass. Moreover, the equality case of the Positive Mass Conjecture states that in the above situation, if the mass is zero, then the Riemannian manifold must be Euclidean space. The Positive Mass Conjecture was proved by R. Schoen and S.-T. Yau for all manifolds of dimension less than 8, and it was proved by E. Witten for all spin manifolds. In this paper, we consider complete asymptotically flat manifolds of nonnegative scalar curvature that are also harmonically …
We give a counter example to a conjecture of E. Bueler stating the equality between the DeRham cohomology of complete Riemannian manifold and a weighted $L^2$ cohomology where the weight is the heat kernel.
We prove the equality of the analytic torsion and the value at zero of a Ruelle dynamical zeta function associated with an acyclic unitarily flat vector bundle on a closed locally symmetric reductive manifold. This solves a conjecture of Fried. This article should be read in conjunction with an earlier paper by Moscovici and Stanton.
We affirm the rigidity conjecture of the spacetime positive mass theorem in dimensions less than eight. Namely, if an asymptotically flat initial data set satisfies the dominant energy condition and has $E=|P|$, then $E=|P|=0$, where $(E, P)$ is the ADM energy-momentum vector. The dimensional restriction can be removed if we assume the positive mass inequality holds. Previously the result was only known for spin manifolds.
Ehrhart's conjecture proposes a sharp upper bound on the volume of a convex body whose barycenter is its only interior lattice point. Recently, Berman and Berndtsson proved this conjecture for a class of rational polytopes including reflexive polytopes. In particular, they showed that the complex projective space has the maximal anticanonical degree among all toric Kaehler-Einstein Fano manifolds. In this note, we prove that projective space is the only such toric manifold with maximal degree by proving its corresponding convex-geometric statement. We also discuss a generalized version of Ehrh…
Without using the $L^2$ extension theorem, we provide a new proof of the equality part in Suita's conjecture, which states that for any open Riemann surface admitting a Green's function, the Bergman kernel and the logarithmic capacity coincide at one point if and only if the surface is biholomorphic to a disc possibly less a relatively closed polar set. In comparison with Guan and Zhou's proof, our proof essentially depends on Maitani and Yamaguchi's variation formula for the Bergman kernel, and we explore the harmonicity in such variations. As applications, we characterize the above surface b…
Up to dimension five, we can prove that given any closed Riemannian manifold with nonnegative scalar curvature, of which the universal covering has vanishing homology group $H_k$ for all $k\geq 3$, either it is flat or it has Gauss-Bonnet quantity (defined by (1.3)) no greater than $8π$. In the second case, the equality for Gauss-Bonnet quantity yields that the universal covering splits as the Riemannian product of a $2$-sphere with non-negative sectional curvature and the Euclidean space. We also establish a dominated version of this result and its application to homotopical $2$-systole estim…
In this article, we consider the set of points for the holding of the equality in a weighted version of Suita conjecture for higher derivatives, and give relations between the set and the integer valued points of a class of harmonic functions (maybe multi-valued). For planar domains bounded by finite analytic closed curves, we give relations between the set and Dirichlet problem.
We show an equality between the analytic torsion and the absolute value at the zero point of the Ruelle dynamical zeta function on a closed odd dimensional locally symmetric space twisted by an acyclic flat vector bundle obtained by the restriction of a representation of the underlying Lie group. This generalises author's previous result for unitarily flat vector bundles, and the results of Bröcker, Müller, and Wotzke on closed hyperbolic manifolds.
It was conjectured by Escobar [J. Funct. Anal. 165 (1999), 101--116] that for an $n$-dimensional ($n\geq 3$) smooth compact Riemannian manifold with boundary, which has nonnegative Ricci curvature and boundary principal curvatures bounded below by $c>0$, the first nonzero Steklov eigenvalue is greater than or equal to $c$ with equality holding only on isometrically Euclidean balls with radius $1/c$. In this paper, we confirm this conjecture in the case of nonnegative sectional curvature. The proof is based on a combination of Qiu--Xia's weighted Reilly-type formula with a special choice of the…
We formulate a plausible conjecture for the optimal Ehrhard-type inequality for convex symmetric sets with respect to the Gaussian measure. Namely, letting $J_{k-1}(s)=\int^s_0 t^{k-1} e^{-\frac{t^2}{2}}dt$ and $c_{k-1}=J_{k-1}(+\infty)$, we conjecture that the function $F:[0,1]\rightarrow\mathbb{R},$ given by $$F(a)= \sum_{k=1}^n 1_{a\in E_k}\cdot(β_k J_{k-1}^{-1}(c_{k-1} a)+α_k)$$ (with an appropriate choice of a decomposition $[0,1]=\cup_{i} E_i$ and coefficients $α_i, β_i$) satisfies, for all symmetric convex sets $K$ and $L,$ and any $λ\in[0,1]$, $$ F\left(γ(λK+(1-λ)L)\right)\geq λF\left(…
