Next-to-Leading-Order(NLO) QCD corrections to double J/psi production in e^+e^- annihilation at sqrt{s}=10.6 GeV are calculated. We find that they greatly decrease the cross section, with a K factor (NLO/LO) ranging from -0.31 to 0.25 depending on the renormalization scale. Although the renormalization scale dependence indicates a large uncertainty, when combined with the NLO QCD corrections to J/psi + eta_c production, it can explain why the double J/psi$ production could not be found at B factories while the J/psi + eta_c production could, despite the fact that cross section of the former is larger than that of the latter at LO by a factor of 1.8.
The multiplicity distributions at high energy $e^+e^-$ annihilation are described well within the Two Stage Model in the region from 14 to 189 GeV. Energy dependence of parameters of this model gives the dynamic picture of the parton stage and the stage of hadronization. It is shown that oscillations in sign of the ratio of factorial cumulant moments over factorial moments of increasing order can be confirmed by this model.
We review the charmonium production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at $\sqrt{s}=10.6GeV$. NRQCD predictions for the $J/ψ$ production are compared with the recent measurements by BaBar and Belle. A NRQCD calculation for the $D$-wave charmonium production is reported to further test the color-octet mechanism and detect the $J^{PC}=2^{--}$ state. The issue of double $c \bar c$ production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation observed by Belle is also discussed.
In this paper we study inclusive production of vector charmonium states $J/ψ$ or $ψ(2S)$ in two-photon $\epem$-annihilation at $\sqrt s=10.6 \rm GeV$ using color-singlet model. Analytic expressions for differential cross sections, numerical values of total cross sections and plots of different distributions are presented. These distributions differ significantly from the one-photon case so these modes can be easily separated.
The calculational precision of $\ee\to\tautau$ and $\ee\to\mumu$ production cross-sections in electron-positron annihilations at \roots = 10.58 \gev are studied for the \kk Monte Carlo simulation program. We determine $σ(\ee\to\tautau) = (0.919 \pm 0.003) \nb$ and $σ(\ee\to\mumu) = (1.147 \pm 0.005) \nb$, where the error represents the precision of the calculation.
In this paper the production of excited vector and pseudoscalar charmonium mesons in $\epem$ annihilation is analyzed in the framework of light cone. In particular the cross sections $\epem \to ψ(2S)η_c(1S), ψ(1S)η_c(2S),ψ(2S)η_c(2S)$ have been calculated. It is shown, that contrary to NRQCD the cross sections calculated in the framework of light cone agree with experimental data.
Recent measurements of the Belle Collaboration of the exclusive production of two charmonia in the $e^+e^-$ annihilation differ substantially from theoretical predictions. Recently it was suggested that a significant part of this discrepancy can be explained by the process $e^2e^- --> 2J/psi$ and value for its cross-section was published. In this paper it is shown, that these results are incorrect and the values for the cross-sections of the production of different vector charmonia are presented.
Next-to-Leading-Order(NLO) QCD corrections to J/jpsi plus eta_c production in e+e- annihilation at sqrt{s}=10.6 GeV is calculated in this paper, and an analytic result is obtained. By choosing proper physical parameters, a K factor (ratio of NLO to LO) of about 2, which is in agreement with the result in Ref.\cite{Zhang:2005ch}, is obtained. Our results show that the Next-Next-to-Leading-Order(NNLO) corrections might be quite large. The plot of the K-factor vs the center-of-mass energy sqrt{s} shows that it is more difficult to obtain a convergent result from the perturbative QCD without resum…
Based on the nonrelativistic QCD factorization approach, ${\mathcal O}(α_s v^2)$ corrections to $\jpsi$ plus $η_c$ production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at $\sqrt{s}=10.6 \gev$ is calculated in this work. The numerical results show that the correction at $α_s v^2$ order is only about a few percent for the total theoretical result. It indicates that the perturbative expansions for the theoretical prediction become convergence and higher order correction will be smaller. The uncertainties from the long-distance matrix elements, renormalization scale and the measurement in experiment are also discu…
In this work we study the process $e^{+}+e^{-}\longrightarrow J/Ψ+η_{c} $ at energy $\sqrt{s}= 10.6 GeV$ observed recently at B-factories whose measurements were made by Babar and Belle groups. We calculate the cross section for this process in the Bethe-salpeter formalism under Covariant Instantaneous Anstaz (CIA). To simplify our calculation, the heavy quark approximation $(q<<M, P M)$ is employed in the quark and gluon propagators. In the exclusive process of $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation into two heavy quarkonia, the cross section calculated in this scenario is compatible with the experimental…
We consider the use of directionality in the search for monoenergetic sub-GeV neutrinos arising from the decay of stopped kaons, which can be produced by dark matter annihilation in the core of the Sun. When these neutrinos undergo charged-current interactions with a nucleus at a neutrino detector, they often eject a proton which is highly peaked in the forward direction. The direction of this track can be measured at DUNE, allowing one to distinguish signal from background by comparing on-source and off-source event rates. We find that directional information can enhance the signal to backgro…
We suggest searching for excited charmonium states in $e^+e^-$ annihilation via double charmonium production at $\sqrt{s}=10.6$ GeV with $B$ factories, based on a more complete leading order calculation including both QCD and QED contributions for various processes. In particular, for the C=+ states, the $χ_{c0}(nP)$ (n=2,3) and $η_c(mS)$ (m=3,4) may have appreciable potentials to be observed; while for the C=- states, the $η_ch_c$ production and especially the $χ_{c1}h_c$ production might provide opportunities for observing the $h_c$ with higher statistics in the future. A brief discussion fo…
The processes of D^{(*)}-mesons and Λ_c-baryons production in e^+e^--annihilation at 10.58 GeV and 91.18 GeV energies are concerned. At the 10.58 GeV energy the production of charmed particles via the B-mesons decays is also concerned. Scaling violation of the fragmentation functions is calculated at the NLL-accuracy. Nonperturbative fragmentation functions are retrieved from the experimental data of B-factories and are approximated by simple analytic expressions. It is proved, that the difference between nonperturbative fragmentation functions of mesons and baryons can be easily explained by …
We calculate the D-wave charmonium production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at BELLE and BABAR at $\sqrt{s}=10.6$ GeV using the nonrelativistic QCD factorization formalism, including color singlet and color octet contributions. We analyze the contributions of various processes for $δ_J(J=1,2)$ production. We find that both the color singlet and color octet channels may give substantial contributions, and the production rates are estimated to be $σ(δ_1)\simeq 0.043-0.16pb$ and $σ(δ_2)\simeq 0.094-0.29pb$, which, however, are very sensitive to the choice of the color octet matrix elements of the D-wa…
The total cross section for electron-positron annihilation into hadrons is calculated in the region just below the B meson threshold. QCD corrections up to third order, quark mass effects, initial state radiation, the running of alpha_QED and the tails of the Upsilon resonances are included in the prediction. For given alpha_s the prediction is accurate to 0.5 percent. An experimental measurement with the corresponding precision would allow to determine alpha_s with high accuracy at intermediate energies.
Using recent CLEO III results for the cross section for $e^+e^- \to {\rm hadrons}$ at seven centre-of-mass energies between 6.964 and 10.538 GeV, we derive a value for the strong coupling constant $α_s(M_Z^2)=0.110_{-0.012}^{-0.010}{}_{-0.011}^{+0.010}$ where the uncertainties are uncorrelated and correlated, respectively. Our result differs significantly from the one derived by CLEO III, as a consequence of inclusion of quark mass effects and the proper matching between the effective theories with four and five flavours. Combining this new result with an analysis based on earlier cross sectio…
GeV-scale dark matter is an increasingly attractive target for direct detection, indirect detection, and collider searches. Its annihilation into hadronic final states produces a challenging zoo of light hadronic resonances. We update Herwig7 to study the photon and positron spectra from annihilation through a vector mediator. It covers dark matter masses between 250 MeV and 5 GeV and includes an error estimate.
In present work we study the production of ground and excited charmonium pairs in $e^- e^+ \rightarrow Ψ(nS)+ χ_{cJ}(nP)$ for $J=0,1$ and $n=1,2$, through leading order (LO) tree-level diagrams $\sim O(α_{em} α_s)$, which proceed through exchange of a virtual photon and an internal gluon line connecting two quark lines (in the triangle quark loop part of the diagram), in the framework of $4\times 4$ Bethe-Salpeter equation, at center of mass energy, $\sqrt{s}=10.6 GeV.$ We have tried to show that the cross sections for this process calculated with use of the four leading order $\sim O(α_{em} α…
Recently, ATLAS and CMS collaboration reported an excess in the diphoton events, which can be explained by a new resonance with mass around 750 GeV. In this work, we explored the possibility of identifying if the hypothetical new resonance is produced through gluon-gluon fusion or quark-antiquark annihilation, or tagging the beam. Three different observables for beam tagging, namely the rapidity and transverse momentum distribution of the diphoton, and one tagged bottom-jet cross section, are proposed. Combining the information gained from these observables, a clear distinction of the producti…
Using the nonrelativistic QCD(NRQCD) factorization formalism, we calculate the color-singlet cross sections for exclusive production processes ${e^++e^-\to J/ψ+η_c}$~ and ~$e^++e^-\to J/ψ+ χ_{cJ}$~$(J=0,1,2)$ at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$=10.6 GeV. The cross sections are estimated to be 5.5fb, 6.7fb, 1.1fb, and 1.6fb for $η_c, χ_{c0}, χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$, respectively. The calculated $J/ψ+η_c$ production rate is smaller than the recent Belle data by about an order of magnitude, which might indicate the failure of perturbative QCD calculation to explain the double-charmonium producti…
In the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, neutralino dark matter can annihilate into a pair of photons through the exchange of a CP-odd Higgs boson in the s-channel. The CP-odd Higgs boson couples to two photons through a loop of dominantly higgsino-like charginos. We show that the parameter space of the NMSSM can accommodate simultaneously i) neutralino-like dark matter of a mass of about 130 GeV giving rise to a 130 GeV photon line; ii) an annihilation cross section of or larger than 10^{-27}cm^3s^{-1}; iii) a relic density in agreement with WMAP constraints; iv) a direct detecti…
Exclusive proton-antiproton annihilation into two photons at large s (~10 GeV^2) and |t|,|u| ~ s can be described by a generalized parton picture analogous to the 'soft mechanism' in wide-angle real Compton scattering. The two photons are emitted in the annihilation of a single fast quark and antiquark. The matrix element describing the transition of the p-pbar system to a q-qbar pair can be related to the timelike proton elastic form factors as well as to the quark/antiquark distributions measured in inclusive deep-inelastic scattering. The reaction could be studied with the proposed 1.5-15 G…
We explore the possibility that the annihilation of dark matter (DM) is boosted due to enhanced substructure in the presence of primordial black holes (PBHs) which constitute a sub-component of DM. The PBHs can generate entropy fluctuations at the small scales which trigger early structure formation, and a large fraction of the whole DM can reside in these collapsed objects that formed at high redshift ($z\gtrsim 100$). Such early forming minihalos consequently possess higher densities than those in the conventional scenarios (without PBHs) and would be more resilient to tidal disruptions. Our…
It was recently reported that there may exist monochromatic $γ$-ray emission at $\sim 130$ GeV from the Galactic center in the Fermi Large Area Telescope data, which might be related with dark matter (DM) annihilation. In this work we carry out a comprehensive check of consistency of the results with the DM annihilation scenario, using the 3.7 yrs Fermi observation of the inner Galaxy, Galactic halo, clusters of galaxies and dwarf galaxies. The results found are as follows. 1) Very strong constraints on the DM annihilation into continuous $γ$-rays from the Galactic center are set, which are as…
We examine whether the cosmic ray positron excess observed by PAMELA can be explained by neutralino annihilation in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM). The main dark matter annihilation products are the lightest CP-even scalar h1 plus the lightest CP-odd scalar a1, with the a1 decaying into two muons. The energetic positrons needed to explain PAMELA are thus obtained in the NMSSM simply from kinematics. The required large annihilation cross section is obtained from an s-channel resonance with the heavier CP-odd scalar a2. Various experiments constrain the PAMELA-favored …
Two-photon and two-gluon annihilation rates of $η_c$, $η'_c$, $η_b$ and $η'_b$ are estimated in the relativistic Salpeter method. By solving the full Salpeter equation with a well defined relativistic wave function, we estimate $M_{η_c}=2.979\pm 0.432$ GeV, $M_{η'_c}=3.566\pm 0.437$ GeV, $M_{η_b}=9.364\pm 1.120$ GeV and $M_{η'_b}=9.941\pm 1.112$ GeV. We calculated the transition amplitude using the Mandelstam formalism and estimate the decay widths: $Γ(η_c \to 2γ)=7.14\pm 0.95$ KeV, $Γ(η'_c \to 2γ)=4.44\pm 0.48$ KeV, $Γ(η_b \to 2γ)=0.384\pm 0.047$ KeV and $Γ(η'_b \to 2γ)=0.191\pm 0.025$ KeV. W…
The process $e^+e^- \to π^0ρ$ is described in the framework of the expanded NJL model in the energy region from 0.9 GeV to 1.5 GeV. The contribution of intermediate state with vector mesons $ω(782), \,\,ϕ(1020)$, and $ω'(1420)$, where $ω'$ is the first radial excitation of $ω$ - meson was taken into account. Results obtained are in satisfactory agreement with experimental data.
We consider the effect of gluon radiation on the energy of top/antitop quarks and on the anticollinearity of top-antitop quark pairs produced in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. Our results are presented in terms of the $E_q$-dependence of the $t\bar tg$ cross section and the dependence on the cosine of the opening angle $θ_{12}$ between top and antitop for a center of mass energy of $\sqrt{q^2}=500 GeV$. We then go on to determine mean values for the top quark's energy as well as its longitudinal and transverse projections, and for the deviation of $\sinθ_{12}$ and $\cosθ_{12}$ from the anticollinearit…
In this paper initial state radiation corrections to double production of charmonium mesons on one-photon electron-positron annihilation at center of mass energy $\sqrt{s}=10.6\GeV$ are studied. It is shown, that these corrections have noticeable effect and must be taken into consideration.
We study UA5 published data on $p\bar{p}$ interaction cross-sections and on charged particles pseudorapidity distribution in single-diffractive, non-single diffractive and inelastic events and investigate their consistency/inconsistency.
Recent claims of a line in the Fermi-LAT photon spectrum at 130 GeV are suggestive of dark matter annihilation in the galactic center and other dark matter-dominated regions. If the Fermi feature is indeed due to dark matter annihilation, the best-fit line cross-section, together with the lack of any corresponding excess in continuum photons, poses an interesting puzzle for models of thermal dark matter: the line cross-section is too large to be generated radiatively from open Standard Model annihilation modes, and too small to provide efficient dark matter annihilation in the early universe. …
Weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) can be captured by the Sun and annihilate in the core, which may result in production of kaons that can decay at rest into monoenergetic 236 MeV neutrinos. Several studies of detection of these neutrinos at DUNE have been carried out. It has been shown that if the WIMP mass is below 4 GeV, then they will evaporate prior to annihilation, suppressing the signal. Since Jupiter has a cooler core, WIMPs with masses in the 1-4 GeV range will not evaporate and can thus annihilate into monoenergetic neutrinos. We calculate the flux of these neutrinos near t…
Recently, several groups identified a tentative $γ$-ray line signal with energy $\sim 130$ GeV in the central Galaxy from the Fermi-LAT data. %The morphology study shows that the signal is consistent with dark matter %annihilation, but with an offset $\sim 220$ pc ($1.5^{\circ}$) of the %center from the Galactic center Sgr A$^{\star}$, Such a $γ-$ray line can be interpreted as the signal of dark matter annihilation. However, the offset $\sim 220$ pc ($1.5^{\circ}$) of the center of the most prominent signal region from the Galactic center Sgr A$^{\star}$ has been thought to challenge the dark …
The deployment of DeepCore array significantly lowers IceCube's energy threshold to about 10 GeV and enhances the sensitivity of detecting neutrinos from annihilations and decays of light dark matter. To match this experimental development, we calculate the track event rate in DeepCore array due to neutrino flux produced by annihilations and decays of galactic dark matter. We also calculate the background event rate due to atmospheric neutrino flux for evaluating the sensitivity of DeepCore array to galactic dark matter signatures. Unlike previous approaches, which set the energy threshold for…
We show that the behavior of the excitation curves of some $e^+e^-$ annihilation processes close to the nucleon-antinucleon threshold can be explained either by the $ρ(1900)$ resonance itself or by its interference with other resonances. Besides the six-pion annihilation and the $e^+e^- \to K^+K^-π^+π^-$ and $e^+e^- \to Φπ^0$ processes, we also analyze the final states $ηπ^+ π^-$, $K^+ K^- π^+ π^- π^0$, and $K^+ K^-π^0 π^0$, the behavior of which around 1.6 GeV has not yet attracted attention. Analysis of the data on the $e^+e^- \to p \bar p$ and $e^+e^- \to n \bar n$ reactions clearly shows t…
The measurements of the total cross section of the $ e^+e^-\toγγ$ reaction from the VENUS, TOPAS, OPAL, DELPHI, ALEPH and L3 collaborations, collected between 1989 to 2003, are used to perform a $ χ^{2} $ test to search for a finite interaction length in direct contact term. The experimental data of the total cross section compared to the QED cross section of a $ χ^{2} $ test allows, to set limit on a finite interaction length $ r_{e}=(1.25\pm 0.16) \times 10 ^{-17} [cm] $. In the direct contact term annihilation is this interaction lengths a measure for the size of the electron.
Using the CLEO III detector, we measure absolute cross sections for e+e- -> hadrons at seven center-of-mass energies between 6.964 and 10.538 GeV. R, the ratio of hadronic and muon pair production cross sections, is measured at these energies with a r.m.s. error <2% allowing determinations of the strong coupling alpha_s. Using the expected evolution of alpha_s with energy we find alpha_s(M_Z^2)=0.126 +/- 0.005 ^{+0.015}_{-0.011}, and Lambda=0.31^{+0.09+0.29}_{-0.08-0.21}.
Recently Liang et al. found a tentative line signal at about 43 GeV in the directions of sixteen nearby Galaxy Clusters. If arising from dark matter annihilation, the mass of the dark matter particles should be $m_χ\sim 43$ GeV and the annihilation cross section $\langle σv \rangle \sim 5\times10^{-28}(\overline{\rm BF}/10^{3})^{-1}~{\rm cm^3~s^{-1}}$ is needed, where $\overline{\rm BF}$ is the averaged boost factor of the annihilation signal of these Galaxy Clusters. In this work we discuss several models which could interpret these features and estimate the model parameters. Usually sizeable…
(Context) We calculate constraints from current and future cosmic microwave background (CMB) measurements on annihilating dark matter (DM) with masses below the electroweak scale: m_{DM}=5-100 GeV. In particular, we focus our attention on the lower end of this mass range, as DM particles with masses m_{DM} ~ 10 GeV have been recently claimed to be consistent with the CoGeNT and DAMA/LIBRA results, while also providing viable DM candidates to explain the measurements of Fermi and WMAP haze. (Aims) We study the model (in)dependence of CMB spectrum on particle physics DM models, large scale struc…
We explore the effects of shadowing on inclusive J/psi and Upsilon(1S) production at AFTER@LHC. We also present the rates as a function of p_T and rapidity for p+Pb and Pb+p collisions in the proposed AFTER@LHC rapidity acceptance.
Hints in the Fermi data for a 130 GeV gamma line from the galactic center have ignited interest in potential gamma line signatures of dark matter. Explanations of this line based on dark matter annihilation face a parametric tension since they often rely on large enhancements of loop-suppressed cross sections. In this paper, we pursue an alternative possibility that dark matter gamma lines could arise from "semi-annihilation" among multiple dark sector states. The semi-annihilation reaction with a single final state photon is typically enhanced relative to ordinary annihilation into photon pai…
We study the fluctuations in the brightness temperature of 21-cm signal $δT_{21}$ at the dark ages ($z\sim100$) with a dark matter candidate in Inter Doublet Model (IDM). We then explore the effects of different fractions of IDM dark matter on $δT_{21}$ signal. The IDM dark matter masses are chosen in few tens of GeV region as well as in the high mass region beyond 500 GeV. It has been observed that the $δT_{21}$ signal is more sensitive in the dark matter mass range of $70 - 80$ GeV. A lower bound on annihilation cross-section for this dark matter is also obtained analyzing the $δT_{21}$ sign…
The diffused gamma halo around our Galaxy recently discovered by EGRET could be produced by annihilations of relic neutrinos N (of fourth generation), whose mass is within a narrow range (Mz /2 < M < Mz). Neutrino annihilations in the halo may lead to either ultrarelativistic electron pairs whose inverse Compton Scattering on infrared or optical galactic photons could be the source of the observed GeV gamma rays, or to prompt 100 MeV- 1 GeV photons (due to neutral pion secondaries) born by N - anti N --> Z--> quark pairs reactions. The consequent gamma flux (10 ^(-7)- 10^(-6) cm ^(-2) s^(-1) s…
We analyze publicly available Fermi-LAT high-energy gamma-ray data and confirm the existence of clear spectral feature peaked at E=130GeV. Scanning over the Galaxy we identify several disconnected regions where the observed excess originates from. Our best optimized fit is obtained for the central region of Galaxy with a clear peak at 130GeV with local statistical significance 4.5 sigma. The observed excess is not correlated with Fermi bubbles. We compute the photon spectra induced by dark matter annihilations into two and four standard model particles, the latter via two light intermediate st…
The CACTUS experiment recently observed a gamma ray excess above 50 GeV from the direction of the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy. Considering that Draco is dark matter dominated the gamma rays may be generated through dark matter annihilation in the Draco halo. In the framework of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model we explore the parameter space to account for the gamma ray signals at CACTUS. We find that the neutralino mass is constrained to be approximately in the range between 100 GeV ~ 400 GeV and a sharp central cuspy of the dark halo profile in Draco is necessary t…
We use a non-detection in $ν= 1.4\,$GHz Green Bank Telescope observations of the ultra-faint dwarf spheroidal galaxy Segue I, which could be immersed in a non-negligible halo magnetic field of the Milky Way, to place bounds on particle dark matter properties. We model the galaxy using an Einasto dark matter profile, and compute the expected synchrotron flux from dark matter annihilation as a function of the magnetic field strength $B$, diffusion coefficient $D_0$, and particle mass $m_χ$ for different annihilation channels. The data strongly disfavor annihilations to $e^+e^-$ for $m_χ\lesssim …
We consider dark matter annihilation into a general set of final states of Standard Model particles, including two-body and four-body final states that result from the decay of intermediate states. For dark matter masses ~10-10^5 GeV, we use updated data from Planck and from high gamma-ray experiments such as Fermi-LAT, MAGIC, and VERITAS to constrain the annihilation cross section for each final state. The Planck constraints are the most stringent over the entire mass range for annihilation into light leptons, and the Fermi-LAT constraints are the most stringent for four-body final states up …
Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) have long reigned as one of the leading classes of dark matter candidates. The observed dark matter abundance can be naturally obtained by freezeout of weak-scale dark matter annihilations in the early universe. This "thermal WIMP" scenario makes direct predictions for the total annihilation cross section that can be tested in present-day experiments. While the dark matter mass constraint can be as high as $m_χ\gtrsim100$ GeV for particular annihilation channels, the constraint on the total cross section has not been determined. We construct the fir…
Using the latest AMS-02 cosmic ray antiproton flux data, we search for potential dark matter annihilation signal. The background parameters about the propagation, source injection, and solar modulation are not assumed {\it a priori}, but based on the results inferred from the recent B/C ratio and proton data measurements instead. The possible dark matter signal is incorporated into the model self-consistently under a Bayesian framework. Compared with the astrophysical background only hypothesis, we find that a dark matter signal is favored. The rest mass of the dark matter particles is $\sim 2…
Several extensions of the Standard Model contain right-handed (sterile) neutrinos in the GeV-TeV mass range. Due to their mixing with the active neutrinos, they may give rise to novel effects in cosmology, neutrino physics, and collider searches. In addition, right-handed neutrinos can also appear as final states from dark matter annihilations, with important implications for dark matter indirect detection searches. In this paper, we use current data from the Fermi Large Area Telescope (6-year observation of dwarf spheroidal galaxies) and H.E.S.S. (10-year observation of the Galactic center) t…
Indirect detection of dark matter via its annihilation products is a key technique in the search for dark matter in the form of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs). Strong constraints exist on the annihilation of WIMPs to highly visible Standard Model final states such as photons or charged particles. In the case of s-wave annihilation, this typically eliminates thermal relic cross sections for dark matter of mass below $\cal{O}$(10) GeV. However, such limits typically neglect the possibility that dark matter may annihilate to assumed invisible or hard-to-detect final states, such as …
We obtain a detailed description of all available hadron multiplicity yields in central Pb--Pb collisions at LHC measured in the rapidity interval $|y|<0.5$. We find that the hadronization of the fireball at LHC occurs at nearly identical intensive physical bulk conditions for all centralities similar to those seen already at RHIC.
Very recently, the {\it BABAR} Collaboration indicated that there exist an explicit enhancement structure near 2.2 GeV when focusing on the $e^+e^-\toπ^+π^-$ process again, which inspires our interest in studying the production of higher $ρ$ mesonic states. Since the branching ratio of $π^+π^-$ channel of $D-$wave $ρ$ states are much smaller than $S-$wave states, we choose $ρ(1900)$ and $ρ(2150)$ as the intermediate states in $e^+e^-\toπ^+π^-$, where $ρ(1900)$ and $ρ(2150)$ are treated as $ρ(3S)$ and $ρ(4S)$ states, respectively. Our result indicates that the $BABAR$'s data of $e^+e^-\toπ^+π^-…
Recently published results from the PAMELA experiment have shown conclusive evidence for an excess of positrons at high (~ 10 - 100 GeV) energies, confirming earlier indications from HEAT and AMS-01. Such a signal is generally expected from dark matter annihilations. However, the hard positron spectrum and large amplitude are difficult to achieve in most conventional WIMP models. The absence of any associated excess in anti-protons is highly constraining on any model with hadronic annihilation modes. We revisit an earlier proposal, whereby the dark matter annihilates into a new light (<~GeV) b…
Data recorded by the JADE experiment at the PETRA e^+e^- collider were used to measure the event shape observables thrust, heavy jet mass, wide and total jet broadening and the differential 2-jet rate in the Durham scheme. For the latter three observables, no experimental results have previously been presented at these energies. The distributions were compared with resummed QCD calulations (O(alpha_s^2)+NLLA), and the strong coupling constant alpha_s(Q) was determined at different energy scales Q=sqrt{s}. The results, α_s(22 GeV) = 0.161 ^{+0.016}_{-0.011}, α_s(35 GeV) = 0.143 ^{+0.011}_{-0.00…
