Let G be a semi-simple non-compact Lie group with unitary lowest/highest weight representations. We consider explicitly the relation between three types of representations of G: positive energy (unitary lowest weight)representations, (holomorphic) discrete series representations and non-unitary finite-dimensional irreps. We consider mainly the conformal groups SO(n,2) treating in full detail the cases n=1,3,4.

Automorphic Bloch theorems for hyperbolic lattices

Discrete Holomorphicity in the Chiral Potts Model

We construct lattice parafermions for the $Z(N)$ chiral Potts model in terms of quasi-local currents of the underlying quantum group. We show that the conservation of the quantum group currents leads to twisted discrete-holomorphicity (DH) conditions for the parafermions. At the critical Fateev-Zamolodchikov point the parafermions are the usual ones, and the DH conditions coincide with those found previously by Rajabpour and Cardy. Discrete Holomorphic Parafermions in the Eight Vertex Model

We show that holomorphic Parafermions exist in the eight vertex model. This is done by extending the definition from the six vertex model to the eight vertex model utilizing a parameter redefinition. These Parafermions exist on the critical plane and integrable cases of the eight vertex model. We show that for the case of staggered eight vertex model, these Parafermions correspond to those of the Ashkin-Teller model. Non-holomorphic Modular Forms and SL(2,R)/U(1) Superconformal Field Theory

We study the torus partition function of the SL(2,R)/U(1) SUSY gauged WZW model coupled to N=2 U(1) current. Starting from the path-integral formulation of the theory, we introduce an infra-red regularization which preserves good modular properties and discuss the decomposition of the partition function in terms of the N=2 characters of discrete (BPS) and continuous (non-BPS) representations. Lessons on Black Holes from the Elliptic Genus

We further study the elliptic genus of the cigar SL(2,R)/U(1) coset superconformal field theory. We find that, even in the small curvature, infinite level limit, there are holomorphic and non-holomorphic parts that are due to the discrete states and a mismatch in the spectral densities of the continuum, respectively. The mismatch in the continuum is universal, in the sense that it is fully determined by the asymptotic cylindrical topology of the cigar's throat. On the Implications of Discrete Symmetries for the Beta Function of Quantum Hall Systems

We argue that the large discrete symmetry group of quantum Hall systems is insufficient in itself to determine the complete beta function for the scaling of the conductivities, $σ_{xx}$ and $σ_{xy}$. We illustrate this point by showing that a recent ansatz for this function is one of a many-parameter family. A clean prediction for the delocalization exponents for these systems therefore requires the specification of more information, such as past proposals that the beta function is either holomorphic or quasi-holomorphic in the variable $z = (\hbar/e^2)(σ_{xy} + iσ_{xx})$.

We extend our previous work arXiv:1012.5721 [hep-th] on the non-compact N=2 SCFT_2 defined as the supersymmetric SL(2,R)/U(1)-gauged WZW model. Starting from path-integral calculations of torus partition functions of both the axial-type (`cigar') and the vector-type (`trumpet') models, we study general models of the Z_M-orbifolds and M-fold covers with an arbitrary integer M. Nonlinear $O(3)$ sigma model in discrete complex analysis

We present a discrete version of the two-dimensional nonlinear $O(3)$ sigma model examined by Belavin and Polyakov. We formulate it by means of Mercat's discrete complex analysis and its elaboration by Bobenko and Günther. We define a weighted discrete Dirichlet energy and area on a planar quad-graph and derive an inequality between them. Non-vanishing Superpotentials in Heterotic String Theory and Discrete Torsion

We study the non-perturbative superpotential in E_8 x E_8 heterotic string theory on a non-simply connected Calabi-Yau manifold X, as well as on its simply connected covering space \tilde{X}. The superpotential is induced by the string wrapping holomorphic, isolated, genus 0 curves. Three-dimensional gravity is a topological field theory, which can be quantized as the Ponzano-Regge state-sum model built from the $\{3nj\}$-symbols of the recoupling of the $\SU(2)$ representations, in which spins are interpreted as quantized edge lengths in Planck units.
