We extract the early parton momentum distribution using the STAR Collaboration data of ridge particles associated with a near-side jet in central AuAu collisions at \sqrt{s_{NN}}=200 GeV. The ridge particles are identified as medium partons kicked by the jet near the surface and they carry direct information on the parton momentum distribution at the moment of jet-parton collisions. The extracted parton momentum distribution has a thermal-like transverse momentum distribution but a rapidity plateau structure with a relatively flat rapidity distribution at mid-rapidities with sharp kinematic boundaries at large rapidities that depend on the transverse momentum.
Jet quenching has successfully served as a hard probe to study the properties of Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). As a multi-particle system, jets take time to develop from a highly virtual parton to a group of partons close to mass shells. In this study, we present a systematical study on the effects of this formation time on jet quenching in relativistic nuclear collisions. Jets from initial hard scatterings were simulated with Pythia, and their interactions with QGP were described using a Linear Boltzmann Transport (LBT) model that incorporates both elastic and inelastic scatterings between jet pa…
Photons resulting from jet-medium interactions offer the opportunity of studying the evolving quark distribution in a heavy ion collision. The spectra of jet-medium photons is presented within the JETSCAPE framework for two different energy loss models, MARTINI and CUJET. Jet-medium photons can contribute significantly to the spectrum of direct photons in the intermediate $p_T$ range.
A Linear Boltzmann Transport model within perturbative QCD is developed for the study of parton propagation inside the quark-gluon plasma. Both leading partons and thermal recoil partons are tracked so that one can also study jet-induced medium excitations. In this study, we implement the complete set of elastic parton scattering processes and investigate elastic parton energy loss, transverse momentum broadening and their nontrivial energy and length dependence. We further investigate medium modifications of the jet shape and fragmentation functions of reconstructed jets. Contributions from t…
We give a report of medium modification of Z+jet correlations in Pb+Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider using Sherpa to generate initial Z+jet at next-leading-order matrix element matched parton shower, and the Linear Boltzmann Transport Model for jet propagation in the expanding quark-gluon-plasma. Our numerical calculations show excellent agreement with all available observables of Z+jet simultaneously in both proton + proton and Pb+Pb collisions. Our results can well explain the shift of momentum asymmetry $x_{jZ}=p_T^{jet}/p_T^Z$ as well as its mean values, the suppression of the je…
The Large Hadron Collider witnesses the highest ever production cross-section of double parton scattering processes. The production of a Z-boson along with two jets from double parton scattering provides a unique opportunity to explore the kinematics of double parton scattering processes and their dependence on the scale of the second interaction. The experimental measurement of this process is largely contaminated by Z + jets production from single parton scattering. In this paper, fragmentation properties of a jet are explored to check their sensitivity towards double parton scattering. The …
The event generator based on the higher-twist energy loss formalism -- Modular All Twist Transverse-scattering Elastic-drag and Radiation (MATTER) -- is further developed and coupled to a hydrodynamic model for studying jet modification in relativistic nuclear collisions. The probability of parton splitting is calculated using the Sudakov form factor that is constructed by a combination of vacuum and medium-induced splitting functions; and the full parton showers are simulated, including both energy-momentum and space-time evolutions of all jet partons. With the assumption that partons below a…
We report on the first results for jet observables from a time-like parton cascade integrated with hydrodynamic evolution within the EPOS3-HQ framework. The hard (jet) partons are produced along with soft partons in the initial state EPOS approach. The soft partons, represented by strings, melt into a thermalized medium which is described by a 3 dimensional event-by-event viscous hydrodynamic approach. The jet partons then propagate in the hydrodynamically expanding medium. The total jet energy gets progressively `degraded' when the partons reaching a thermal energy scale are melted into the h…
QCD predictions for final states with multiple jets in hadron collisions make use of multi-jet merging methods, which allow one to combine consistently the contributions from hard scattering matrix elements with different parton multiplicities and parton showers. In this article I consider a multi-jet merging method that has recently been proposed to take into account the effects of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) evolution and parton shower, and present studies focusing on the application of this method to jets associated with Drell-Yan (DY) production in the region of high masses.
EPOS3-Jet is an integrated framework for jet modelling in heavy ion collisions, where the initial hard (jet) partons are produced along with soft (medium) partons in the initial state EPOS approach. The jet partons then propagate in the hydrodynamically expanding medium. The energy and momentum lost by the jet partons is added to the hydrodynamic medium via the source terms. The full evolution proceeds in a concurrent mode, without separating hydrodynamic and jet parts. In this report, we examine the medium recoil effects in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV LHC energy in the EP…
We perform calculations of Z+jet cross-section taking into account the transverse momenta of the initial partons. Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) parton densities obtained with the Parton Branching method are used and higher order corrections are included via TMD parton showers in the initial state. The predictions are compared to measurements of forward Z+jet production of the LHCb collaboration at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV. We show that the results obtained in kT-factorization are in good agreement with results obtained from a NLO calculation matched with traditional parton showers. We also demon…
We present predictions for the double parton scattering (DPS) four-jet production cross sections in $pA$ collisions at the LHC. Relying on the experimental capabilities to correlate centrality with impact parameter $B$ of the proton-nucleus collision, we discuss a strategy to extract the double parton scattering contributions in $pA$ collisions, which gives direct access to double parton distribution in the nucleon. We show that the production cross sections via DPS of four jets, out of which two may be light- or heavy-quark jets, are large enough to allow the method to be used already with da…
The impact of jet quenching on $Z^0$-tagged jets in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is investigated. We employ Sharpa Monte Carlo program that combines next-to-leading order matrix elements with matched resummation of parton shower to compute the initial $Z^0$+jet production. The Linear Boltzmann Transport (LBT) model is then used to simulate the propagation, energy attenuation of and medium response induced by jet partons in the quark-gluon plasma. With both higher-order corrections and matched soft/collinear radiation as well as a sophisticated treatment …
We present our studies of four-jet double parton scattering production in proton-nucleus collisions within the framework of the PYTHIA8 event generator. We demonstrate that double absorptive processes in pA generated by the Angantyr model in PYTHIA8 give an enhancement of the total double parton scattering cross section similar to the predictions by Strikman and Treleani in 2001. Additionally, we discuss how the growth of activity in a direction of a nucleus affects an A-scaling of a total double parton scattering cross section in proton-nucleus collisions.
We discuss implications of the evolution of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distributions on the structure of multi-jet states at high energies. In particular we analyze the theoretical systematics associated with multi-jet merging. We introduce a new merging methodology incorporating TMDs, illustrate its main features and present a comparison of our theoretical results with experimental measurements for Z-boson + jets production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
We study the contribution from double parton scattering (DPS) to four-jet production at the LHC, both at the leading order accuracy and after incorporating the effects of QCD radiation. Apart from DPS, we also include and discuss the contribution from single parton scattering (SPS). We find that the QCD radiation impacts theoretical predictions significantly, with DPS contributions more affected than the SPS. We also examine a number of observables in regard to their effectiveness for discrimination between DPS and SPS events and propose sets of kinematical cuts to improve the prospects of mea…
One of the main theoretical systematics in studies of final states with large jet multiplicities at high-energy hadron colliders is associated with the merging of QCD parton showers and hard-scattering matrix elements. We present a method to incorporate the physics of transverse momentum recoils due to initial-state shower evolution into multi-jet merging algorithms by using the concept of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) distributions and the associated parton branching. We investigate the dependence on the merging scale and illustrate the impact of the new method at the level of both excl…
Nuclear modification factors of single hadrons and dihadrons at large transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) in high-energy heavy-ion collisions are studied in a next-to-leading-order (NLO) perturbative QCD parton model. Parton fragmentation functions (FFs) in $A+A$ collisions are modified due to jet energy loss which is proportional to the jet transport coefficient $\hat{q}$ characterizing the interaction between the parton jet and the produced medium. By confronting 6 current sets of NLO parton FFs for large $p_{\rm T}$ hadron productions, we extract $\hat{q}$ quantitatively via a global fit to d…
The parton branching formulation of TMD evolution has recently been used to make predictions for jet observables at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), including perturbative matching at next-to-leading order (NLO). This contribution presents results for the azimuthal Δ-ϕcorrelations in events with di-jets at large transverse momentum. It focuses on the back-to-back region of large Δ-ϕand discusses prospects for detailed studies of QCD dynamics in this region at the LHC.
