In the (Delta phi)-(Delta eta) correlation associated with a near-side jet observed by the STAR Collaboration in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC [Ref. 1-6], the ridge structure can be explained by the momentum kick model in which the ridge particles are identified as medium partons which suffer a collision with the jet and acquire a momentum kick along the jet direction. If this is indeed the correct mechanism, the ridge structure associated with the near-side jet may be used to probe the parton momentum distribution at the moment of the jet-parton collision, leading to the result that at that instant the parton temperature is slightly higher and the rapidity width substantially greater than corresponding quantities of their evolution product inclusive particles at the end point of the nucleus-nucleus collision.
The near-side ridge structure in the (Delta phi)-(Delta eta) correlation observed by the CMS Collaboration for pp collisions at 7 TeV at LHC can be explained by the momentum kick model in which the ridge particles are medium partons that suffer a collision with the jet and acquire a momentum kick along the jet direction. Similar to the early medium parton momentum distribution obtained in previous analysis for nucleus-nucleus collisions at 0.2 TeV, the early medium parton momentum distribution in pp collisions at 7 TeV exhibits a rapidity plateau as arising from particle production in a flux t…
We have measured the radiative decays phi -> eta gamma, phi ->etaprime gamma selecting pi+ pi- gamma gamma gamma final state in a sample of about 5 times 10^7 phi mesons produced at the Frascati phi factory DAFNE. We obtain Gamma(phi -> etaprime gamma)/Gamma(phi -> eta gamma)=(4.70 +- 0.47 +- 0.31) times 10^-3. From this result we derive new accurate values for the branching ratio BR(phi ->etaprime gamma) = (6.10 +- 0.61 +- 0.43) times 10^-5, and the mixing angle of pseudoscalar mesons in the flavour basis phi_P=(41.8 +1.9 -1.6) degrees.
We investigate the decay mechanism in the B^- -> phi phi K^- decay with the phi phi invariant mass below the charm threshold and in the neighborhood of the eta_c invariant mass region. Our approach is based on the use of factorization model and the knowledge of matrix elements of the weak currents. For the B meson weak transition we apply form factor formalism, while for the light mesons we use effective weak and strong Lagrangians. We find that the dominant contributions to the branching ratio come from the eta, eta' and eta(1490) pole terms of the penguin operators in the decay chains B^- ->…
KLOE has collected about 30 pb^-1 in year 2000 at the DAFNE collider, which yields the largest population of phi meson radiative decays studied so far. We present the result obtained for phi-->eta photon and phi -->eta' photon: the ratio of these two BR's has been measured to be (5.3 +- 0.5 +- 0.3) times 10^-3, leading to a very accurate determination of the mixing angle in the flavor basis (40 +1.7 -1.5 degrees) and to the most accurate determination of BR(phi -->eta' photon) to date: (6.8 +- 0.6 +-0.5) times 10^-5.
In this paper we present the fit to the recent high-statistical KLOE data on the phi -> eta pi^0 gamma decay. This decay mainly goes through the a_0 gamma intermediate state. The obtained results differ from those of the previous fits: data prefer a high a_0 mass and a considerably large a_0 coupling to the K\bar K}.
We study interference patterns in the phi -> gamma a0 + pi0 rho -> gamma pi eta and phi -> gamma f0 + pi0 rho -> gamma pi0 pi0 reactions. Taking into account the interference, we fit the experimental data and show that the background reaction does not distort the pi0eta spectrum in the decay phi -> gamma pi eta everywhere over the energy region and does not distort the pi0 pi0 spectrum in the decay phi -> gamma pi0 pi0 when the invariant mass m_{pi0 pi0} > 670 MeV. We discuss the details of the scalar meson production in the radiative decays and note that there are conclusive arguments in favo…
Neglecting smaller amplitudes the time-dependent CP asymmetry in penguin-dominated b -> s q \bar q transitions (such as B -> phi K_S) is expected to equal sin(2 beta), an expectation not borne out by the present average experimental data. I compute and discuss the correction due to the smaller amplitudes in the framework of QCD factorization.
We study the effect of b to s sbar s scalar/pseudoscalar operators, originating from penguin diagrams of neutral Higgs bosons in the MSSM, in B to K eta(') and B to phi K^* decays. These operators can be Fierz-transformed into tensor operators, and the resultant tensor operators could affect the transverse polarization amplitudes in B to phi K^* decays. We find that only when the weak annihilations in B to phi K^* into account, the polarization puzzle can be resolved, so that new physics effects are strongly suppressed and no more relevant to the enhancement of the transverse modes in B to phi…
We consider effective Lagrangian models of CP-violating vertex structure in which a $b -> uW$ vertex, proportional to $s_{13}e^{-iδ_{13}}$ with $s_{13}$ very small (milliweak interaction) and $δ_{13}$ large, is dynamically generated. A consequent, enhanced CP-violating vertex for $b\to sg$ results in an enhanced CP-violating phase in the ratio of amplitudes for $\bbar \to ϕ\KS$. We estimate that this can significantly change the $S$ parameter from the value expected in the standard model.
Within the standard model (SM), the time dependent CP asymmetries in B -> psi K_S, B -> eta' K_S and B -> phi K_S are expected to give the same result i.e. sin (2 beta). However recent measurements of the mixing induced CP asymmetries in B -> phi K_S and B -> eta' K_S modes give results whose central values differ from SM expectations. We explore the effects of new physics in the two Higgs doublet model (THDM), which allows tree level flavor changing neutral currents (so called Model III), and the model with extra vector like down quark (VLDQ). We find that the observed mixing induced CP asymm…
We study the effect of b to s sbar s scalar/pseudoscalar operators in B to K eta('), phi K^* decays. In the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), such scalar/pseudoscalar operators can be induced by the penguin diagrams of neutral Higgs bosons. These operators can be Fierz-transformed into tensor operators, and the resultant tensor operators could affect the transverse polarization amplitudes in B to phi K^* decays. A combined analysis of the decays B to phi K^* and B to K eta('), including b to s sbar s scalar/pseudoscalar operators and their Fierz-transformed tensor operators origina…
The fourth generation can give the correct trend of S_{phi K^0}, S_{pi^0 K^0} < sin2phi_1/beta, as indicated by data, and the effect, being largely leading order, is robust against hadronic uncertainties. The effect on S_{eta' K^0}, however, is diluted away by hadronic effects, and S_{eta' K^0} \simeq sin2phi_1/beta is expected. The near maximal arg[V^*_{t's}V_{t'b}] \lesssim 90^\circ that is needed could resolve the unequal direct CP violation seen in B -> K^+ pi^- and K^+ pi^0 modes, and is consistent with b ->s l^+l^- and B_s mixing constraints.
We analyse the CP asymmetry of the B -> phi K_S and B -> eta' K_S processes in general supersymmetric models. We show that chromomagnetic type of operator may play an important role in accounting for the deviation of the mixing CP asymmetry between B -> phi K_S and B -> J/psi K_S processes observed by Belle and BABAR experiments. We also show that due to the different parity in the final states of these processes, their supersymmetric contributions from the R-sector have an opposite sign, which naturally explain the large deviation between their asymmetries.
In the framework of R-parity violating (\rpv) supersymmetry, we try to find a consistent explanation for both recently measured CP asymmetry in B^0 --> phi K_S decay and the large branching ratio of B^{+/-} --> eta' K^{+/-} decay, which are inconsistent with the Standard Model (SM) prediction. We also investigate other charmless hadronic B --> PP and B --> VP decay modes whose experimental data favor the SM: for instance, recently measured CP asymmetries in B^0 --> eta^{prime} K_S and B^0 --> J / Psi K_S. We find that all the observed data can be accommodated for certain values of \rpv couplin…
The isospin violating $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^0 η$ decay is thought to be dominated by the mixing of the $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ scalar resonances. We make a theoretical evaluation of the $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^0 η$ decay extending our own previous model for other $J/Ψ$ decays into one vector meson and two pseudoscalars using the techniques of the chiral unitary approach. The scalar resonances are dynamically generated through the final state interaction of the pseudoscalar mesons implementing unitarity from the lowest order ChPT amplitudes. Besides the direct $J/ΨϕPP$ vertex, other mechanisms like the sequential ex…
We analyse the CP asymmetry of the B --> phi K and B --> eta' K processes in general supersymmetric models. We consider both gluino and chargino exchanges in a model independent way by using the mass insertion approximation method. We adopt the QCD factorization method for evaluating the corresponding hadronic matrix elements. We show that chromomagnetic type of operator may play an important role in accounting for the deviation of the mixing CP asymmetry between B --> phi K and B --> J/psi K processes observed by Belle and BaBar experiments. We also show that due to the different parity in th…
Using chiral symmetry we investigate the leading SU(3) violation in light-cone distribution functions phi_M(x) of the pion, kaon, and eta. It is shown that terms non-analytic in the quark masses do not affect the shape, and only appear in the decay constants. Predictive power is retained including the leading analytic m_q operators. With the symmetry violating corrections we derive useful model independent relations between phi_pi, phi_eta, and phi_K. Using the soft-collinear effective theory we discuss how factorization generates the subleading chiral coefficients.
The branching ratios for the neutral and charged B decay channels to $η' K$ and $ηK^*$ are well above the Standard Model expectations. Moreover, the mixing-induced CP asymmetry in $B \to ϕK_S$ is incompatible to that found in $B\to J/ψK_S$. We investigate whether a flavour-specific tree-level $b\to s \bar{s} s$ operator coming from R-parity violating supersymmetry can resolve both these discrepancies, without jeopardizing those results which are in agreement with the Standard Model. We found that it is possible to have a parameter space satisfying all these requirements, including that of a lo…
We study the rho^0 and phi decays into pi^+ pi^- gamma, pi^0 pi^0 gamma and phi into pi^0 eta gamma using a chiral unitary approach to deal with the final state interaction of the M M system. The final state interaction modifies only moderately the large momenta tail of the photon spectrum of the rho^0 --> pi^+ pi^- gamma decay. In the case of phi decay the contribution to pi^+ pi^- gamma and pi^0 pi^0 gamma decay proceeds via kaonic loops and gives a distribution of pi pi invariant masses in which the f_0(980) resonance shows up with a very distinct peak. The spectrum found for phi --> pi^0 p…
We update the values of the eta-eta' mixing angle and of the eta' gluonium content by fitting our measurement R_phi = BR(phi to eta' gamma)/ BR(phi to eta gamma) together with several vector meson radiative decays to pseudoscalars (V to P gamma), pseudoscalar mesons radiative decays to vectors (P to V gamma) and the eta' to gamma gamma, pi^0 to gamma gamma widths. From the fit we extract a gluonium fraction of Z^2_G = 0.12 +- 0.04, the pseudoscalar mixing angle psi_P = (40.4 +- 0.6) degree and the phi-omega mixing angle psi_V = (3.32 +- 0.09) degree. Z^2_G and psi_P are fairly consistent with …
Partial widths of the radiative decays $ϕ(1020)\toγf_0(980)$, $γη$, $γη'$, $γπ^0$ and $f_0(980)\toγγ$ are calculated assuming all mesons under consideration to be $q\bar q$ states: $ϕ(1020)$ is dominantly an $s\bar s$ state ($n\bar n$ component $\lesssim 1%$), $η$, $η'$ and $π^0$ are standard $q\bar q$ states, $η= n\bar n\cosθ- s\bar s\sinθ$ and $η'=n\bar n\sinθ+ s\bar s\cosθ$ with $θ\simeq 37^\circ$, and $f_0(980)$ is the $q\bar q$ meson with the flavour wave function $n\bar n\cosϕ+ s\bar s \sinϕ$. Calculated partial widths for the decays $ϕ\toγη$, $γη'$, $γπ^0$ are in a reasonable agreement …
In a recent publication by ATLAS collaboration a new observable, the so-called phi-star angle, was used for precise measurement of transverse Z momentum. One of the dominant systematic errors for this measurement originates from the theoretical control of QED final-state bremsstrahlung. At present, it is estimated at the 0.3% level for the shape of the phi-star distribution. In this paper we discuss the possible effects of the second-order QED matrix element for that quantity. For that purpose, results from simulations based on the Yennie--Frautchi--Suura (YFS) exponentiation and featuring the…
We calculate theoretically the formation spectra of eta'(958)-nucleus systems in the (p,d) reaction for the investigation of the in-medium modification of the eta' mass. We show the comprehensive numerical calculations based on a simple form of the eta' optical potential in nuclei with various potential depths. We conclude that one finds an evidence of possible attractive interaction between eta' and nucleus as peak structure appearing around the eta' threshold in light nuclei such as 11C when the attractive potential is stronger than 100 MeV and the absorption width is of order of 40 MeV or l…
We analyze CP asymmetries of B \to ϕK_S and B \to η' K_S in a supersymmetric grand unified theory in which only the third generation sfermions contained in 10(Q, U^c, E^c) of SU(5) can have a different mass from the others. One of the advantages of this nonuniversal mass model is that the first two generation sfermion masses can be large whereas both (left and right handed) stops are light so as to stabilize the weak scale. Therefore, we studied a minimal supersymmetric standard model parameter region in which a fine tuning in Higgs sector is relaxed owing to light masses of stops, gluino and …
The production of pseudo scalar, Eeta, Eta-prime, and vector, Omega, Rho, Phi, mesons in NN collisions at threshold-near energies is analyzed within a covariant effective meson-nucleon theory. It is shown that a good description of cross sections and angular distributions, for vector meson production, can be accomplished by considering meson and nucleon currents only, while for pseudo scalar production an inclusion of nucleon resonances is needed. The di-electron production from subsequent Dalitz decay of the produced mesons, $η'\to γγ^* \toγe^+e^-$ and $ω\to πγ^*\to πe^+e^-$ is also considere…
The recently observed color-suppressed B0bar to D0 pi0, D0 eta, D0 eta', Ds+ K-, D0 K0bar, D0 rho0 and D0 omega decay modes all have rates larger than expected. The color-suppressed Bs to D0 phi, D0bar phi modes, which were suggested for the extraction of the unitarity angle gamma in the Gronau-London method, could be larger than the previous estimation by one order of magnitude. Several new theoretical clean modes in Bs decays are suggested for the extraction of gamma. The proposed Bs to D0 h0, D0bar h0 decay modes with h0 = pi0, eta, eta', rho0, omega in addition to h0 = phi are free from pe…
In a recent paper, the hydrodynamic code NeXSPheRIO was used in conjunction with STAR analysis methods to study two-particle correlations as function of Delta_eta and Delta_phi. Both the ridge-like near-side and the double-hump away-side structures were obtained. However, the mechanism of ridge production was not clear. In order to understand it, we study a simple model with only one high-energy density peripheral tube in a smooth cylindrical back-ground, with longitudinal boost invariance. The results are rather surprising, but the model does produce the triple-ridge structure with one high r…
Although recent experimental results in b-->s penguin process seem to be roughly consistent with the standard model predictions, there may be still large possibilities of new physics hiding in this processes. Therefore, here we investigate systematically the potential new physics effects that may appear in time-dependent CP asymmetries of B --> phi K^0, B--> eta^\prime K^0 and B--> K^0 π^0 decay modes, by classifying the cases for the values of the mixing-induced indirect CP asymmetries, S_{phi K^0}, S_{eta^\prime K^0}, S_{K^0 pi^0} which are compared to S_{J/psi K^0}. We also show that severa…
We use a factorization theorem from the soft-collinear effective theory along with heavy quark symmetry to make model independent predictions for B-> D^(*)M where M={eta, eta',phi, omega}. Gluon production of these isosinglet mesons is included. We predict the equality of branching fractions in the B-> DM and B-> D*M channels, with corrections at order LambdaQCD/Q and alphas(Q) where Q=m_b,m_c, or E_M. We also predict that Br(B^0-> D eta')/Br(B^0-> D eta)=tan^2(theta) = 0.67 and Br(B-> D phi)/Br(B-> D omega) < 0.2, where here there are also alphas(sqrt{E*Lambda}) corrections. These results agre…
We analyze the low energy implications of a flavor blind supersymmetric scenario (where the CKM matrix is the only source of flavor violation) in the presence of new CP violating but flavor conserving phases in the soft sector. We find that the best probes of this rather restricted scenario are i) the electric dipole moments (EDMs) of the electron (d_e) and the neutron (d_n) and ii) flavor changing and CP violating processes in B systems, like the CP asymmetries in b->s gamma and B->phi(eta^')K_S, i.e. A_CP(b->s gamma) and S_phi(eta^')K_S, respectively. The non-standard values for S_phi(eta^')…
A consistent description of the pi0 pi0 invariant mass distribution in the phi(1020) -> f0(980) gamma -> pi0 pi0 gamma decay and the pi0 eta in phi(1020) -> a0(980) gamma -> pi0 eta gamma is suggested. A search for the consequences of the flavor SU(3) symmetry for the scalar mesons can be based on such an analysis. In order to accurately treat the pseudoscalar meson dynamics, which is very important for the scalar meson decays, we employ Resonance Chiral Theory.
I propose a simple explanation of the ``ridge'' seen in the near-side jet two-particle correlation function in heavy ion collisions at RHIC. This could be a cumulative shock wave produced in liquid-like matter by an energetic stopped parton. Splash of liquid in the direction opposite to the fast penetrating object is a known effect. In nucleus-nucleus collision the trigger is an escaped non-interacting parton. Partner parton could be stopped in the medium forming a conical-like shock wave with density depletion behind the stopped parton. In the proposed scenario shock waves will move in three …
We conjecture on the structure of the quark vacuum from a viewpoint somewhat different from, but perhaps supplementary to, standard philosophies. Using a rather simple dynamical Hamiltonian model, vacuum excitations carrying helicities 0 and +/-1 are discussed in connection with the dynamical stability of solutions. We speculate on how the rest masses of the light mesons pi^0, eta^0 and eta'^0 could be related to these excitations.
A unified description of the near-side and away-side structures observed in two-particle correlations as function of delta eta-delta phi is proposed for low to moderate transverse momentum. It is based on the combined effect of tubular initial conditions and hydrodynamical expansion.
We present recent results obtained by the KLOE-2 Collaboration at the DAPHNE e+e- collider. The first class of results concerns search for dark forces at the scale of 1 GeV in associated production of gamma and the U boson, in search for the Higgsstrahlung and in possible decays of phi into eta and U. The second is in neutral kaon physics, on testing the CPT and Lorentz invariance, and on search for quantum decoherence effects in entangled pairs of kaons. The third class of results concerns precision measurements in hadronic physics at low energy where transition form factors of phi to pseudos…
We study whether the nonmonotonic behavior found in the differential cross section of the phi-meson photoproduction near threshold can be described by a resonance. Namely, we add a resonance to a model consisting of Pomeron and (pi,eta) exchange by fiat and see if, with a suitable assignment of spin and parity, mass and width, as well as the coupling constants, one would be able to obtain a good description to all the data reported by the LEPS collaboration in the low-energy region. The resonant contribution is evaluated by using an effective Lagrangian approach. We find that, with the assumpt…
Hadronic final states in hadron-hadron collisions are often studied by clustering final state hadrons into jets, each jet approximately corresponding to a hard parton. The typical jet size in a high energy hadron collision is between 0.4 and 1.0 in eta-phi. On the other hand, there may be structures of interest in an event that are of a different scale to the jet size. For example, to a first approximation the underlying event is a uniform emission of radiation spanning the entire detector, colour connection effects between hard partons may fill the region between a jet and the proton remnant …
