We study global regularity properties of Sobolev homeomorphisms on $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds under the assumption of $p$-integrability of its first weak derivatives in degree $p\geq n-1$. We prove that inverse homeomorphisms have integrable first weak derivatives. For the case $p>n$ we obtain necessary conditions for existence of Sobolev homeomorphisms between manifolds. These necessary conditions based on Poincaré type inequality: $$ \inf_{c\in \mathbb R} \|u-c\mid L_{\infty}(M)\|\leq K \|u\mid L^1_{\infty}(M)\|. $$ As a corollary we obtain the following geometrical necessary condition:
{\em If there exists a Sobolev homeomorphisms $ϕ: M \to M'$, $ϕ\in W^1_p(M, M')$, $p>n$, $J(x,ϕ)\ne 0$ a. e. in $M$, of compact smooth Riemannian manifold $M$ onto Riemannian manifold $M'$ then the manifold $M'$ has finite geodesic diameter.}}
We study invertibility of bounded composition operators of Sobolev spaces. The problem is closely connected with the theory of mappings of finite distortion. If a homeomorphism $φ$ of Euclidean domains $D$ and $D'$ generates by the composition rule $φ^{\ast}f=f\circφ$ a bounded composition operator of Sobolev spaces $φ^{\ast}: L^1_{\infty}(D')\to L^1_p(D)$, $p>n-1$, has finite distortion and Luzin $N$-property then its inverse $φ^{-1}$ generates the bounded composition operator from $L^1_{p'}(D)$, $p'=p/(p-n+1)$, into $L^1_{1}(D')$.
In the present paper we study embedding operators for weighted Sobolev spaces whose weights satisfy the well-known Muckenhoupt A_p-condition. Sufficient conditions for boundedness and compactness of the embedding operators are obtained for smooth domains and domains with boundary singularities. The proposed method is based on the concept of 'generalized' quasiconformal homeomorphisms (homeomorphisms with bounded mean distortion.) The choice of the homeomorphism type depends on the choice of the corresponding weighted Sobolev space. Such classes of homeomorphisms induce bounded composition oper…
Given a Sobolev homeomorphism $f\in W^{2,1}$ in the plane we find a piecewise quadratic homeomorphism that approximates it up to a set of $ε$ measure. We show that this piecewise quadratic map can be approximated by diffeomorphisms in the $W^{2,1}$ norm on this set.
This paper investigates the differentiability of weak limits of bi-Sobolev homeomorphisms. Given $p>n-1$, consider a sequence of homeomorphisms $f_k$ with positive Jacobians $J_{f_k} >0$ almost everywhere and $\sup_k(\|f_{k}\|_{W^{1,n-1}} + \|f_{k}^{-1}\|_{W^{1,p}}) <\infty$. We prove that if $f$ and $h$ are weak limits of $f_k$ and $f_k^{-1}$, respectively, with positive Jacobians $J_f>0$ and $J_h>0$ a.e., then $h(f(x))=x$ and $f(h(y))=y$ both hold a.e.\ and $f$ and $h$ are differentiable almost everywhere.
Let $Ω\subseteq\mathbb R^2$ be a domain and let $f\in W^{1,1}(Ω,\mathbb R^2)$ be a homeomorphism (between $Ω$ and $f(Ω)$). Then there exists a sequence of smooth diffeomorphisms $f_k$ converging to $f$ in $W^{1,1}(Ω,\mathbb R^2)$ and uniformly.
Let $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ be a domain that supports the $p$-Poincaré inequality. Given a homeomorphism $φ\in L^1_p(Ω)$, for $p>n$ we show the domain $φ(Ω)$ has finite geodesic diameter. This result has a direct application to Brennan's conjecture and quasiconformal homeomorphisms. {\bf The Inverse Brennan's conjecture} states that for any simply connected plane domain $Ω' \subset\mathbb C$ with nonempty boundary and for any conformal homeomorphism $φ$ from the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ onto $Ω'$ the complex derivative $φ'$ is integrable in the degree $s$, $-2<s<2/3$. If $Ω'$ is bounded than $-2…
We show that given a homeomorphism $f:G\rightarrowΩ$ where $G$ is a open subset of $\mathbb{R}^2$ and $Ω$ is a open subset of a $2$-Ahlfors regular metric measure space supporting a weak $(1,1)$-Poincaré inequality, it holds $f\in BV_{\operatorname{loc}}(G,Ω)$ if and only $f^{-1}\in BV_{\operatorname{loc}}(Ω,G)$. Further if $f$ satisfies the Luzin N and N$^{-1}$ conditions then $f\in W^{1,1}_{\operatorname{loc}}(G,Ω)$ if and only if $f^{-1}\in W^{1,1}_{\operatorname{loc}}(Ω,G)$.
Let $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ be an open set and let $f\in W^{1,p}(Ω,\mathbb{R}^n)$ be a weak (sequential) limit of Sobolev homeomorphisms. Then $f$ is injective almost everywhere for $p>n-1$ both in the image and in the domain. For $p\leq n-1$ we construct a strong limit of homeomorphisms such that the preimage of a point is a continuum for every point in a set of positive measure in the image and a topological image of a point is a continuum for every point in a set of positive measure in the domain.
We extend the classical Hardy-Sobolev-Poincare-Wirtinger inequalities from the ordinary Lebesgue-Riesz spaces into the Grand Lebesgue ones, with exact constants evaluation.
We use the characterization of weak type inequalities via Garsia-Rodemich conditions to show self improving properties of Poincaré-Sobolev inequalities in a very general context.
Given a nondegenerate harmonic structure, we prove a Poincaré-type inequality for functions in the domain of the Dirichlet form on nested fractals. We then study the Hajlasz-Sobolev spaces on nested fractals. In particular, we describe how the "weak"-type gradient on nested fractals relates to the upper gradient defined in the context of general metric spaces.
In a previous paper we developed a new method to obtain symmetrization inequalities of Sobolev type for functions in $W_{0}^{1,1}(Ω)$. In this paper we extend our method to Sobolev functions that do not vanish at the boundary.
In this note, we establish a $L^p-$version of the Poincaré--Sobolev inequalities in the hyperbolic spaces $\mathbb H^n$. The interest of this result is that it relates both the Poincaré (or Hardy) inequality and the Sobolev inequality with the sharp constant in $\mathbb H^n$. Our approach is based on the comparison of the $L^p-$norm of gradient of the symmetric decreasing rearrangement of a function in both the hyperbolic space and the Euclidean space, and the sharp Sobolev inequalities in Euclidean spaces. This approach also gives the proof of the Poincaré--Gagliardo--Nirenberg and Poincaré--…
Let $d$ be a metric on $R^n$ and let $C^{m,(d)}(R^n)$ be the space of $C^m$-function on $R^n$ whose partial derivatives of order $m$ belong to the space $Lip(R^n;d)$. We show that the homogeneous Sobolev space $L^{m+1}_p(R^n),p>n,$ can be represented as a union of $C^{m,(d)}(R^n)$-spaces where $d$ belongs to a family of metrics on $R^n$ with certain "nice" properties. This enables us in several important cases to give intrinsic characterizations of the restrictions of Sobolev spaces to arbitrary closed subsets of $R^n$. In particular, we generalize the classical Whitney extension theorem for t…
We provide sufficient conditions for boundary Hardy inequality to hold in bounded Lipschitz domains, complement of a point (the so-called point Hardy inequality), domain above the graph of a Lipschitz function, the complement of a bounded Lipschitz domain in fractional Orlicz-Sobolev setting. As a consequence, we get sufficient conditions for regional fractional Orlicz Poincaré inequality in bounded Lipschitz domains. Necessary conditions for fractional Orlicz Hardy and regional fractional Orlicz Poincaré inequalities are also given for bounded Lipschitz domains. Various sufficient conditions …
We introduce a class of weak solutions to the quasilinear equation $-Δ_p u = σ|u|^{p-2}u$ in an open set $Ω\subset\mathbf{R}^n$. Here $p>1$, and $Δ_p u$ is the $p$-Laplacian operator. Our notion of solution is tailored to general distributional coefficients $σ$ satisfying a certain weighted Sobolev-Poincare inequality. We also study weak solutions of the closely related equation $-Δ_p v = (p-1)|\nabla v|^p + σ$, under the same conditions on $σ$. Our results for this latter equation will allow us to characterize the class of distributions $σ$ which satisfy the Sobolev-Poincare inequality, there…

By adapting some ideas of M. Ledoux \cite{ledoux2}, \cite{ledoux-stflour} and \cite{Led} to a sub-Riemannian framework we study Sobolev, Poincaré and isoperimetric inequalities associated to subelliptic diffusion operators that satisfy the generalized curvature dimension inequality that was introduced by F. Baudoin and N. Garofalo in \cite{Bau2}. Our results apply in particular on all CR Sasakian manifolds whose horizontal Webster-Tanaka-Ricci curvature is non negative, all Carnot groups with step two, and wide subclasses of principal bundles over Riemannian manifolds whose Ricci curvature is …
We establish several Poincaré--Sobolev type inequalities for the Lapalce--Beltrami operator $Δ_g$ in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb H^n$ with $n\geq 5$. These inequalities could be seen as the improved second order Poincaré inequality with remainder terms involving with the sharp Rellich inequality or sharp Sobolev inequality in $\mathbb H^n$. The novelty of these inequalities is that it combines both the sharp Poincaré inequality and the sharp Rellich inequality or the sharp Sobolev inequality for $Δ_g$ in $\mathbb H^n$. As a consequence, we obtain the Poincaré--Sobolev inequality for the seco…
Contains a further development of the V.G. Maz'ya concept of polynomial capacities.A different different approach is given together with new results. The primary application is for Hardy inequalities. This is treated in a later report. Here is given an application which consists of a reformulation of the Spectral synthesis question in terms of polynomial capacities. However so far this does not give a new proof, though a similar but different question for the nonnegative cone in Sobobolev space of order 2 is resolved.
We present a class of modified logarithmic Sobolev inequality, interpolating between Poincaré and logarithmic Sobolev inequalities, suitable for measures of the type $\exp(-|x|^\al)$ or more complex $\exp(-|x|^\al\log^β(2+|x|))$ ($\al\in]1,2[$ and $\be\in\dR$) which lead to new concentration inequalities. These modified inequalities share common properties with usual logarithmic Sobolev inequalities, as tensorisation or perturbation, and imply as well Poincaré inequality. We also study the link between these new modified logarithmic Sobolev inequalities and transportation inequalities.
Given a probability measure $μ$ supported on a convex subset $Ω$ of Euclidean space $(\mathbb{R}^d,g_0)$, we are interested in obtaining Poincaré and log-Sobolev type inequalities on $(Ω,g_0,μ)$. To this end, we change the metric $g_0$ to a more general Riemannian one $g$, adapted in a certain sense to $μ$, and perform our analysis on $(Ω,g,μ)$. The types of metrics we consider are Hessian metrics (intimately related to associated optimal-transport problems), product metrics (which are very useful when $μ$ is unconditional, i.e. invariant under reflection with respect to the principle hyperpla…
This note, mostly expository, is devoted to Poincar{é} and log-Sobolev inequalities for a class of Boltzmann-Gibbs measures with singular interaction. Such measures allow to model one-dimensional particles with confinement and singular pair interaction. The functional inequalities come from convexity. We prove and characterize optimality in the case of quadratic confinement via a factorization of the measure. This optimality phenomenon holds for all beta Hermite ensembles including the Gaussian unitary ensemble, a famous exactly solvable model of random matrix theory. We further explore exact …
This paper deals with a notion of Sobolev space $W^{1,p}$ introduced by J.Bourgain, H.Brezis and P.Mironescu by means of a seminorm involving local averages of finite differences. This seminorm was subsequently used by A.Ponce to obtain a Poincaré-type inequality. The main results that we present are a generalization of these two works to a non-Euclidean setting, namely that of Carnot groups. We show that the seminorm expressd in terms of the intrinsic distance is equivalent to the $L^p$ norm of the intrinsic gradient, and provide a Poincaré-type inequality on Carnot groups by means of a const…
