We study the phase diagram at finite temperature of a system of Fermi particles on the sites of the Bethe lattice with coordination number z and interacting through onsite U and nearest-neighbor V interactions. This is a physical realization of the extended Hubbard model in the atomic limit. By using the equations of motion method, we exactly solve the model. For an attractive intersite potential, we find, at half filling, a phase transition towards a broken particle-hole symmetry state. The critical temperature, as a function of the relevant parameters, has a re-entrant behavior as already observed in the equivalent spin-1 Ising model on the Bethe lattice.
Integrable extended Hubbard models arising from symmetric group solutions are examined in the framework of the graded Quantum Inverse Scattering Method. The Bethe ansatz equations for all these models are derived by using the algebraic Bethe ansatz method.
We apply the nested algebraic Bethe ansatz method to solve the eigenvalue problem for the SU(4) extension of the Hubbard model. The Hamiltonian is equivalent to the SU(4) graded permutation operator. The graded Yang-Baxter equation and the graded Quantum Inverse Scattering Method are used to obtain the eigenvalue of the SU(4) extension of the Hubbard model.
The energy gap between the ground state and the first excited state of the one-dimensional attractive Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian is investigated in connection with directed polymers in random media. The excitation gap Δis obtained by exact diagonalization of the Hamiltonian in the two- and three-particle sectors and also by an exact Bethe Ansatz solution in the two-particle sector. The dynamic exponent z is found to be 2. However, in the intermediate range of the size L where UL~O(1), U being the attractive interaction, the effective dynamic exponent shows an anomalous peak reaching high values …
We define one-dimensional particles with generalized exchange statistics. The exact solution of a Hubbard-type Hamiltonian constructed with such particles is achieved using the Coordinate Bethe Ansatz. The chosen deformation of the statistics is equivalent to the presence of a magnetic field produced by the particles themselves, which is present also in a ``free gas'' of these particles.
We compute the eigenfunctions, energies and Bethe equations for a class of generalized integrable Hubbard models based on gl(n|m)\oplus gl(2) superalgebras. The Bethe equations appear to be similar to the Hubbard model ones, up to a phase due to the integration of a subset of `simple' Bethe equations. We discuss relations with AdS/CFT correspondence, and with condensed matter physics.
We calculate the Hubbard bands for the half-filled Hubbard model on a Bethe lattice with infinite coordination number up to and including third order in the inverse Hubbard interaction. We employ the Kato--Takahashi perturbation theory to solve the self-consistency equation of the Dynamical Mean-Field Theory analytically for the single-impurity Anderson model in multi-chain geometry. The weight of the secondary Hubbard sub-bands is of fourth order so that the two-chain geometry is sufficient for our study. Even close to the Mott--Hubbard transition, our results for the Mott--Hubbard gap agree …
In view of a recent controversy we investigated the Mott-Hubbard transition in D=infinity with a novel cluster approach. i) We show that any truncated Bethe lattice of order n can be mapped exactly to a finite Hubbard-like cluster. ii) We evaluate the self-energy numerically for n=0,1,2 and compare with a series of self-consistent equation-of-motion solutions. iii) We find the gap to open continously at the critical U_c~2.5t* (t = t* / sqrt{4d}). iv) A low-energy theory for the Mott-Hubbard transition is developed and relations between critical exponents are presented.
The one-dimensional Hubbard model at half-filling is studied in the framework of the Composite Operator Method using a static approximation. A solution characterized by strong antiferromagnetic correlations and a gap for any nonzero on-site interaction U is found. The corresponding ground-state energy, double occupancy and specific heat are in excellent agreement with those obtained within the Bethe Ansatz. These results show that the Composite Operator Method is an appropriate framework for the half-filled Hubbard chain and can be applied to evaluate properties, like the correlation functions…
We develop a bosonization approach for one-dimensional models based on Bethe ansatz equations. The operator formalism of the exact soluble models in the low energy limit provides a systematic method to calculate the asymptotic correlation functions. As examples with and without internal degrees of freedom, the Calogero-Sutherland (C-S) model and the repulsive Hubbard model are considered respectively. We verify that the low energy behavior of the C-S model is controlled by two classes of c=1 conformal field theories, depending on whether the C-S interactions are among bosons or among fermions.…
Three kinds of integrable Kondo problems in one-dimensional extended Hubbard models are studied by means of the boundary graded quantum inverse scattering method. The boundary K matrices depending on the local moments of the impurities are presented as a nontrivial realization of the graded reflection equation algebras acting in a $(2 s_α+1)$-dimensional impurity Hilbert space. Further, these models are solved using the algebraic Bethe ansatz method and the Bethe ansatz equations are obtained.
We study the interplay between Néel-antiferromagnetism and the paramagnetic metal-insulator-transition (PMIT) on a Bethe lattice with nearest and next-nearest eighbor hopping $t_1$ and $t_2$. We concentrate in this paper on the situation at half-filling. For $t_2/t_1\to 1$ the PMIT outgrows the antiferromagnetic phase and shows a scenario similar to V$_2$O$_3$. In this parameter regime we also observe a novel magnetic phase.
Motivated by Heilmann and Lieb's work, we discuss energy level crossings for the one-dimensional Hubbard model through the Bethe ansatz, constructing explicitly the degenerate eigenstates at the crossing points. After showing the existence of solutions for the Lieb--Wu equations with one-down spin, we solve them numerically and construct Bethe ansatz eigenstates. We thus verify all the level crossings in the spectral flows observed by the numerical diagonalization method with one down-spin. For each of the solutions we obtain its energy spectral flow along the interaction parameter U. Then, we…
In this work, we present a proof of the existence of real and ordered solutions to the generalized Bethe Ansatz equations for the one dimensional Hubbard model on a finite lattice, with periodic boundary conditions. The existence of a continuous set of solutions extending from any positive U to the limit of large interaction is also shown. This continuity property, when combined with the proof that the wavefunction obtained with the generalized Bethe Ansatz is normalizable, is relevant to the question of whether or not the solution gives us the ground state of the finite system, as suggested b…
We compute the Bethe equations of generalized Hubbard models, and study their thermodynamical limit. We argue how they can be connected to the ones found in the context of AdS/CFT correspondence, in particular with the so-called dressing phase problem. We also show how the models can be interpreted, in condensed matter physics, as integrable multi-leg Hubbard models.
We numerically solve the Hubbard model on the Bethe lattice with finite coordination number $z=3$, and determine its zero-temperature phase diagram. For this purpose, we introduce and develop the `variational uniform tree state' (VUTS) algorithm, a tensor network algorithm which generalizes the variational uniform matrix product state algorithm to tree tensor networks. Our results reveal an antiferromagnetic insulating phase and a paramagnetic metallic phase, separated by a first-order doping-driven metal-insulator transition. We show that the metallic state is a Fermi liquid with coherent qua…
A new integrable model which is a variant of the one-dimensional Hubbard model is proposed. The integrability of the model is verified by presenting the associated quantum R-matrix which satisfies the Yang-Baxter equation. We argue that the new model possesses the SO(4) algebra symmetry, which contains a representation of the $η$-pairing SU(2) algebra and a spin SU(2) algebra. Additionally, the algebraic Bethe ansatz is studied by means of the quantum inverse scattering method. The spectrum of the Hamiltonian, eigenvectors, as well as the Bethe ansatz equations, are discussed.
The spectra and role in the spin dynamical properties of bound states of elementary magnetic excitations named Bethe strings that occur in some integrable spin and electronic one-dimensional models have recently been identified and realized in several materials by experiments. Corresponding theoretical studies have usually relied on the one-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet in a magnetic field. At the isotropic point, it describes the large onsite repulsion U limit of the spin degrees of freedom of the one-dimensional fermionic Hubbard model with one electron per site in a magnet…
We present the exact solution of a system of Fermi particles living on the sites of a Bethe lattice with coordination number z and interacting through on-site U and nearest-neighbor V interactions. This is a physical realization of the extended Hubbard model in the atomic limit. Within the Green's function and equations of motion formalism, we provide a comprehensive analysis of the model and we study the phase diagram at finite temperature in the whole model's parameter space, allowing for the on-site and nearest-neighbor interactions to be either repulsive or attractive. We find the existenc…
For the one-dimensional Hubbard model with Aharonov-Bohm-type magnetic flux, we study the relation between its symmetry and the number of Bethe states. First we show the existence of solutions for Lieb-Wu equations with an arbitrary number of up-spins and one down-spin, and exactly count the number of the Bethe states. The results are consistent with Takahashi's string hypothesis if the system has the so(4) symmetry. With the Aharonov-Bohm-type magnetic flux, however, the number of Bethe states increases and the standard string hypothesis does not hold. In fact, the so(4) symmetry reduces to t…
A simple picture for the spectrum of the one-dimensional Hubbard model is presented using a classification of the eigenstates based on an intuitive bound-state Bethe-Ansatz approach. This approach allows us to prove a "string hypothesis" for complex momenta and derive an exact formulation of the Bethe-Ansatz equations including all states. Among other things we show that all gapped eigenstates have the Bethe-Ansatz form, contrary to assertions in the literature. The simplest excitations in the upper Hubbard band are computed: we find an unusual dispersion close to half-filling.
On the basis of Bethe ansatz solution of one dimensional SU(4) Hubbard-like model, we study its thermodynamics properties by means of Yang-Yang thermodynamics Bethe ansatz. The Landé $g$ factor is taken into account so as to describe electrons with orbital degeneracy. The free energy at low temperature is given and the specific heat both in strong coupling and weak coupling limits are obtained.
We construct an exact map between a tight-binding model on any bipartite lattice in presence of dephasing noise and a Hubbard model with imaginary interaction strength. In one dimension, the exact many-body Liouvillian spectrum can be obtained by application of the Bethe ansatz method. We find that both the non-equilibrium steady state and the leading decay modes describing the relaxation at late times are related to the eta-pairing symmetry of the Hubbard model. We show that there is a remarkable relation between the time-evolution of an arbitrary k-point correlation function in the dissipati…
A strongly correlated electron system associated with the quantum superalgebra ${U}_q[{osp}(2|2)]$ is studied in the framework of the quantum inverse scattering method. By solving the graded reflection equation, two classes of boundary-reflection $K$-matrices leading to four kinds of possible boundary interaction terms are found. Performing the algebraic Bethe ansatz, we diagonalize the two-level transfer matrices which characterize the charge and the spin degrees of freedom, respectively. The Bethe-ansatz equations, the eigenvalues of the transfer matrices and the energy spectrum are presente…
New numerical method to calculate thermodynmic Bethe ansatz equations is proposed based on Newton's method. Thermodynamic quantities of one-dimensional Hubbard model is numerically calculated and compared with high temperature expansion and numerical results of quantum transfer matrix method by Jüttner, Klümper and Suzuki. The coincidence is surprisingly good. We get high-temperature expansion of grand potential up to $β^6$.
The Drude weight for the one-dimensional Hubbard model is investigated at finite temperatures by using the Bethe ansatz solution. Evaluating finite-size corrections to the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations, we obtain the formula for the Drude weight as the response of the system to an external gauge potential. We perform low-temperature expansions of the Drude weight in the case of half-filling as well as away from half-filling, which clearly distinguish the Mott-insulating state from the metallic state.
The one-dimensional Hubbard model with arbitrary boundary magnetic fields is solved exactly via the Bethe ansatz methods. With the coordinate Bethe ansatz in the charge sector, the second eigenvalue problem associated with the spin sector is constructed. It is shown that the second eigenvalue problem can be transformed into that of the inhomogeneous XXX spin chain with arbitrary boundary fields which can be solved via the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method.
Using the Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG), we calculate critical exponents for the one-dimensional Hubbard model with open boundary conditions with and without additional boundary potentials at both ends. A direct comparison with open boundary condition Bethe Ansatz calculations provides a good check for the DMRG calculations on large system sizes. On the other hand, the DMRG calculations provide an independent check of the predictions of Conformal Field Theory, which are needed to obtain the critical exponents from the Bethe Ansatz. From Bethe Ansatz we predict the behaviour of th…
The half-filled Hubbard model on the Bethe lattice with coordination number $z=3$ is studied using the density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method. Ground-state properties such as the energy $E$, average local magnetization $<\hat S_z>$, its fluctuations $<\hat S_z^2 > - < \hat S_z>^2$ and various spin correlation functions $<\hat S_z(i) \hat S_z(j) > - < S_z(i)> < S_z(j)>$ are determined as a function of the Coulomb interaction strength $U/t$. The calculated local magnetic moments $<\hat S_z(i)>$ increase monotonically with increasing Coulomb repulsion $U/t$ forming an antiferromagneti…
Single-particle spectral properties near the Mott transition in the one-dimensional Hubbard model are investigated by using the dynamical density-matrix renormalization group method and the Bethe ansatz. The pseudogap, hole-pocket behavior, spectral-weight transfer, and upper Hubbard band are explained in terms of spinons, holons, antiholons, and doublons. The Mott transition is characterized by the emergence of a gapless mode whose dispersion relation extends up to the order of hopping t (spin exchange J) in the weak (strong) interaction regime caused by infinitesimal doping.
The Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) is the key equation in many-body perturbation theory based on Green's functions to access response properties. Within the $GW$ approximation to the exchange-correlation kernel, the BSE has been successfully applied to several finite and infinite systems. However, it also shows some failures, such as underestimated triplet excitation energies, lack of double excitations, ground-state energy instabilities in the dissociation limit, etc. In this work, we study the performance of the BSE within the $GW$ approximation as well as the $T$-matrix approximation for the…
The Bethe Ansatz equations for the one-dimensional Hubbard model are reexamined. A new procedure is introduced to properly include bound states. The corrected equations lead to new elementary excitations away from half-filling.
Strongly correlated electron systems are generally described by tight binding lattice Hamiltonians with strong local (on site) interactions, the most popular being the Hubbard model. Although the half filled Hubbard model can be simulated by Monte Carlo(MC), physically more interesting cases beyond half filling are plagued by the sign problem. One therefore should resort to other methods. It was demonstrated recently that a systematic truncation of the set of Dyson-Schwinger equations for correlators of the Hubbard, supplemented by a \textquotedblleft covariant" calculation of correlators lead…
We study mesoscopic pairing in the one dimensional repulsive Hubbard model and its interplay with the BCS model in the canonical ensemble. The key tool is comparing the Bethe ansatz equations of the two models in the limit of small Coulomb repulsion. For the ordinary Hubbard interaction the BCS Bethe equations with infinite pairing coupling are recovered; a finite pairing is obtained by considering a further density-dependent phase-correlation in the hopping amplitude of the Hubbard model. We find that spin degrees of freedom in the Hubbard ground state are arranged in a state of the BCS type,…
A general formalism for the study of excitations above equilibrium in Bethe ansatz solvable models is presented. Nonzero temperature expressions for dressed energy, momentum, spin and charge are obtained, and it is found that the dressed spin and charge are in general momentum dependent. For an electronic model one may only have spin-charge separation at zero temperature where the ground state is half-filled and has zero magnetisation. Finally, the excitations of the Hubbard-Shastry models are examined in detail.
The boundary effects in the open Hubbard chain with boundary fields are studied. The boundary string solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations that give rise to a wave functions localized at the boundary and exponentially decreasing away from the boundary are provided. In particular, it is shown that the correct ground state of the model at half-filling contains the boundary strings.
The magnetic susceptibility and the low-temperature specific heat of the 1-dimensional Hubbard model under the integrable open-boundary conditions are discussed through the Bethe ansatz with the string hypothesis. The contributions of the boundary fields to both the susceptibility and the specific heat are obtained, and their exact expressions are analytically derived.
Site-occupation embedding theory (SOET) is an alternative formulation of density-functional theory (DFT) for model Hamiltonians where the fully-interacting Hubbard problem is mapped, in principle exactly, onto an impurity-interacting (rather than a non-interacting) one. It provides a rigorous framework for combining wavefunction (or Green function) based methods with DFT. In this work, exact expressions for the per-site energy and double occupation of the uniform Hubbard model are derived in the context of SOET. As readily seen from these derivations, the so-called bath contribution to the per…
Using a straightforward extension of the analysis of Lieb and Wu, we derive a simple analytic form for the ground state energy of a one-dimensional Hubbard ring in the atomic limit. This result is valid for an \textit{arbitrary} number of lattice sites $L$ and electrons $N \leq L$. Furthermore, our analysis, including an application of the theory of stochastic matrices, provides insight into the degeneracy and spin properties of the ground states in the atomic limit. We give numerical results which illustrate how the atomic limit is approached.
The zero temperature transition from a paramagnetic metal to a paramagnetic insulator is investigated in the Dynamical Mean Field Theory for the Hubbard model. The self-energy of the effective impurity Anderson model (on which the Hubbard model is mapped) is calculated using Wilson's Numerical Renormalization Group method. Results for quasiparticle weight, spectral function and self-energy are discussed for Bethe and hypercubic lattice. In both cases, the metal-insulator transition is found to occur via the vanishing of a quasiparticle resonance which appears to be isolated from the Hubbard ba…
Simple analytical parametrizations for the ground-state energy of the one-dimensional repulsive Hubbard model are developed. The charge-dependence of the energy is parametrized using exact results extracted from the Bethe-Ansatz. The resulting parametrization is shown to be in better agreement with highly precise data obtained from fully numerical solution of the Bethe-Ansatz equations than previous expressions [Lima et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 90, 146402 (2003)]. Unlike these earlier proposals, the present parametrization correctly predicts a positive Mott gap at half filling for any U>0. The co…
With the ionic Hubbard model (IHM) in mind, we construct a non-trivial generalization of the Bethe ansatz (BA) wave function which naturally generalizes the Lieb-Wu wave function with an ionic parameter $Δ$, and reduces to Lieb-Wu solution in the limit $Δ\to 0$. The resulting two-particle scattering matrix satisfies the Yang-Baxter equation. To the extent that the unit cells with more than two electrons (Choy-Haldane issue) are avoided on average, our wave function represents an effective soluiton for the one-dimensional IHM. The Choy-Haldane issue restricts the validity of our solution to low…
Using the recently perfected sea-boson method, we compute the momentum distribution of the one-band Hubbard model in one and two spatial dimensions. We compute the asymptotic features of the momentum distribution explicitly away from half filling for weak coupling in one and two dimensions. While the results are not exact by any means, they provide the exact asymptotics, namely they are able to reproduce the exponents obtained by Shulz in one dimension obtained using Bethe ansatz. The corresponding results in more than one dimension are therefore as believeable.
The paramagnetic phase diagram of the Hubbard model with nearest-neighbor (NN) and next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) hopping on the Bethe lattice is computed at half-filling and in the weakly doped regime using the self-energy functional approach for dynamical mean-field theory. NNN hopping breaks the particle-hole symmetry and leads to a strong asymmetry of the electron-doped and hole-doped regimes. Phase separation occurs at and near half-filling, and the critical temperature of the Mott transition is strongly suppressed.
In the theory of Bethe-ansatz integrable quantum systems, rapidities play an important role as they are used to specify many-body states, apart from phases. The physical interpretation of rapidities going back to Sutherland is that they are the asymptotic momenta after letting a quantum gas expand into a larger volume making it dilute and noninteracting. We exploit this picture to make a direct connection to quantities that are accessible in sudden-expansion experiments with ultracold quantum gases. By a direct comparison of Bethe-ansatz and time-dependent density matrix renormalization group …
The frequency-dependent conductivity is studied for the one-dimensional Hubbard model, using a selection rule, the Bethe ansatz, and symmetries associated with conservation laws. For densities where the system is metallic the absorption spectrum has two contributions, a Drude peak at $ω= 0$ separated by a pseudogap from a broad absorption band whose lower edge is characterized by a non-classical critical exponent. Our findings shed new light on the ``far infrared puzzle'' and other optical properties of metallic organic chain compounds.
We consider strongly-correlated systems described by the multi-orbital Hubbard model in the atomic limit and obtain exact expressions for the chemical potential and thermopower. We show that these expressions reduce to the Heikes formula in the appropriate limits ($k_BT \gg U$) and ($k_BT \ll U$) and obtain the full temperature dependence in between these regimes. We also investigate the effect of a magnetic field introduced through a Zeeman term and observe that the thermopower of the multi-orbital Hubbard model displays spikes as a function of magnetic field at certain special values of the …
The Bethe ansatz in its several formulations is the common tool for the exact solution of one dimensional quantum Hamiltonians. This ansatz asserts that the several eigenfunctions of the Hamiltonians are given in terms of a sum of permutations of plane waves. We present results that induce us to expect that, alternatively, the eigenfunctions of all the exact integrable quantum chains can also be expressed by a matrix product ansatz. In this ansatz the several components of the eigenfunctions are obtained through the algebraic properties of properly defined matrices. This ansatz allows an unifi…
We study the two-orbital Hubbard model in the limit of vanishing kinetic energy. The phase diagram in the $V-J$ plane, with $V$ and $J$ denoting the interorbital hybridization and exchange coupling respectively, at half filling is obtained. A singlet(dimer)-triplet transition is found for a critical value of the ratio $V/J.$ The entropy of formation, both in the mode and in the particle picture, presents a jump as the same critical line in conformity with the suggested relation between criticality and entanglement.
The scaling limit of the higher level Bethe Ansatz (HLBA) equations for a macroscopically half-filled Hubbard chain is considered. These equations practically decouple into three disjoint sets which are again of the BA type, and correspond to the secular equations of three different kinds of dressed particles (one massive and two massless). The finite size corrections and the fine structure of the spectrum show that the massless sector corresponds to a conformal field with central charge c=1 and Gaussian anomalous dimensions. The zero temperature free energy is also calculated and is found to …
We introduce a new type of Gutzwiller variational wavefunction for correlated electrons coupled to phonons, able to treat on equal footing electronic and lattice degrees of freedom. We benchmark the wavefunction in the infinite-$U$ Hubbard-Holstein model away from half-filling on a Bethe lattice, where we can directly compare with exact results by Dynamical Mean-Field Theory. For this model, we find that variational results agree perfectly well with the exact ones. In particular the wavefunction correctly describes the crossover to a heavy polaron gas upon increasing the electron-phonon coupli…
Inspired by recent results in the context of AdS/CFT integrability, we reconsider the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz equations describing the 1D fermionic Hubbard model at finite temperature. We prove that the infinite set of TBA equations are equivalent to a simple nonlinear Riemann-Hilbert problem for a finite number of unknown functions. The latter can be transformed into a set of three coupled nonlinear integral equations defined over a finite support, which can be easily solved numerically. We discuss the emergence of an exact Bethe Ansatz and the link between the TBA approach and the results…
We study the geometrical frustration of extended Hubbard model on diamond chain, where vertical lines correspond to the hopping and repulsive Coulomb interaction terms between sites, while the rest of them represent only the Coulomb repulsion one. The phase diagrams at zero temperature show quite curious phases: five types of frustrated states and four types of non-frustrated ones, ordered antiferromagnetically. Although decoration transformation was derived to spin coupling systems, this approach can be applied to electron coupling ones. Thus the extended Hubbard model can be mapped onto anot…
We study the quench dynamics of the one-dimensional Hubbard model through the Quench Action formalism. We introduce a class of integrable initial states -- expressed as product states over two sites -- for which we can provide an exact characterisation of the late-time regime. This is achieved by finding a closed-form expression for the overlaps between our states and the Bethe ansatz eigenstates, which we check explicitly in the limits of low densities and infinite repulsion. Our solution gives access to the stationary values attained by local observables (we show the explicit example of the …
We apply the recently proposed susy Hubbard operators to an atomic model. In the limiting case of free spins, we derive exact results for the entropy which are compared with a mean field + gaussian corrections description. We show how these results can be extended to the case of charge fluctuations and calculate exact results for the partition function, free energy and heat capacity of an atomic model for some simple examples. Wavefunctions of possible states are listed. We compare the accuracy of large N expansions of the susy spin operators with those obtained using `Schwinger bosons' and `A…
