We continue our study of the construction of analytical coefficients of the epsilon-expansion of hypergeometric functions and their connection with Feynman diagrams. In this paper, we apply the approach of obtaining iteratated solutions to the differential equations associated with hypergeometric functions to prove the following result (Theorem 1): The epsilon-expansion of a generalized hypergeometric function with integer values of parameters is expressible in terms of generalized polylogarithms with coefficients that are ratios of polynomials. The method used in this proof provides an efficient algorithm for calculatiing of the higher-order coefficients of Laurent expansion.
We prove the following theorems: 1) The Laurent expansions in epsilon of the Gauss hypergeometric functions 2F1(I_1+a*epsilon, I_2+b*epsilon; I_3+p/q + c epsilon; z), 2F1(I_1+p/q+a*epsilon, I_2+p/q+b*epsilon; I_3+ p/q+c*epsilon;z), 2F1(I_1+p/q+a*epsilon, I_2+b*epsilon; I_3+p/q+c*epsilon;z), where I_1,I_2,I_3,p,q are arbitrary integers, a,b,c are arbitrary numbers and epsilon is an infinitesimal parameter, are expressible in terms of multiple polylogarithms of q-roots of unity with coefficients that are ratios of polynomials; 2) The Laurent expansion of the Gauss hypergeometric function 2F1(I_1…
Hypergeometric functions provide a useful representation of Feynman diagrams occuring in precision phenomenology. In dimension regularization, the epsilon-expansion of these functions about d=4 is required. We discuss the current status of differential reduction algorithms. As an illustration, we consider the construction of the all-order epsilon-expansion of the Appell hypergeometric function about integer values of the parameters and present an explicit evaluations of the first few terms.
We briefly sketch a proof concerning the structure of the all-order epsilon-expansions of generalized hypergeometric functions with special sets of parameters.
In this talk, we discuss the algorithm for the construction of analytical coefficients of higher order epsilon expansion of some Horn type hypergeometric functions of two variables around rational values of parameters.
It is proved that the Laurent expansion of the following Gauss hypergeometric functions, 2F1(I1+a*epsilon, I2+b*ep; I3+c*epsilon;z), 2F1(I1+a*epsilon, I2+b*epsilon;I3+1/2+c*epsilon;z), 2F1(I1+1/2+a*epsilon, I2+b*epsilon; I3+c*epsilon;z), 2F1(I1+1/2+a*epsilon, I2+b*epsilon; I3+1/2+c*epsilon;z), 2F1(I1+1/2+a*epsilon,I2+1/2+b*epsilon; I3+1/2+c*epsilon;z), where I1,I2,I3 are an arbitrary integer nonnegative numbers, a,b,c are an arbitrary numbers and epsilon is an arbitrary small parameters, are expressible in terms of the harmonic polylogarithms of Remiddi and Vermaseren with polynomial coefficie…
We continue the study of the construction of analytical coefficients of the epsilon-expansion of hypergeometric functions and their connection with Feynman diagrams. In this paper, we show the following results: Theorem A: The multiple (inverse) binomial sums of arbitrary weight and depth (see Eq. (1.1)) are expressible in terms of Remiddi-Vermaseren functions. Theorem B: The epsilon expansion of a hypergeometric function with one half-integer value of parameter (see Eq. (1.2)) is expressible in terms of the harmonic polylogarithms of Remiddi and Vermaseren with coefficients that are ratios of…
Recent progress in analytical calculation of the multiple [inverse, binomial, harmonic] sums, related with epsilon-expansion of the hypergeometric function of one variable are discussed.
We review the hypergeometric function approach to Feynman diagrams. Special consideration is given to the construction of the Laurent expansion. As an illustration, we describe a collection of physically important one-loop vertex diagrams for which this approach is useful.
Higher-order diagrams required for radiative corrections to mixed electroweak and QCD processes at the LHC and anticipated future colliders will require numerically stable representations of the associated Feynman diagrams. The hypergeometric representation supplies an analytic framework that is useful for deriving such stable representations. We discuss the reduction of Feynman diagrams to master integrals, and compare integration-by-parts methods to differential reduction of hypergeometric functions. We describe the problem of constructing higher-order terms in the epsilon expansion, and cha…
It is demonstrated that the well-regularized hypergeometric functions can be evaluated directly and numerically. The package NumExp is presented for expanding hypergeometric functions and/or other transcendental functions in a small regularization parameter. The hypergeometric function is expressed as a Laurent series in the regularization parameter and the coefficients are evaluated numerically by using the multi-precision finite difference method. This elaborate expansion method works for a wide variety of hypergeometric functions, which are needed in the context of dimensional regularizatio…
Assumed that the parameters of a generalized hypergeometric function depend linearly on a small variable $\varepsilon$, the successive derivatives of the function with respect to that small variable are evaluated at $\varepsilon=0$ to obtain the coefficients of the $\varepsilon$-expansion of the function. The procedure, quite naive, benefits from simple explicit expressions of the derivatives, to any order, of the Pochhammer and reciprocal Pochhammer symbols with respect to their argument. The algorithm may be used algebraically, irrespective of the values of the parameters. It reproduces the …
The Gauss hypergeometric functions 2F1 with arbitrary values of parameters are reduced to two functions with fixed values of parameters, which differ from the original ones by integers. It is shown that in the case of integer and/or half-integer values of parameters there are only three types of algebraically independent Gauss hypergeometric functions. The epsilon-expansion of functions of one of this type (type F in our classification) demands the introduction of new functions related to generalizations of elliptic functions. For the five other types of functions the higher-order epsilon-expa…
HYPERDIRE is a project devoted to the creation of a set of Mathematica based programs for the differential reduction of hypergeometric functions. The current version includes two parts: the first one, FdFunction, for manipulations with Appell hypergeometric functions $F_D$ of $r$ variables; and the second one, FsFunction, for manipulations with Lauricella-Saran hypergeometric functions $F_S$ of three variables. Both functions are related with one-loop Feynman diagrams. The published version includes also Chapter 5 with two theorems about structure of coefficients of epsilon-expansion of the Ho…
We briefly discuss the transcendental constants generated through the epsilon-expansion of generalized hypergeometric functions and their interrelation with the "sixth root of unity."
The method of dimensional recurrences proposed by one of the authors [1,2] is applied to the evaluation of the pentagon-type scalar integral with on-shell external legs and massless internal lines. For the first time, an analytic result valid for arbitrary space-time dimension d and five arbitrary kinematic variables is presented. An explicit expression in terms of the Appell hypergeometric function F_3 and the Gauss hypergeometric function_2F_1, both admitting one-fold integral representations, is given. In the case when one kinematic variable vanishes, the integral reduces to a combination o…
The decomposition in partial fractions of the quotient of Pochhammer symbols improves considerably a method, suggested in a precedent paper, which allows one to obtain the $\varepsilon$-expansion of functions of the hypergeometric class. The procedure is applied to several Appell and Kampé de Fériet functions considered in the literature. Explicit expressions and interesting properties of the derivatives of the Pochhammer and reciprocal Pochhammer symbols, which are essential elements in the procedure, are given in an appendix.
The relationship between Feynman diagrams and hypergeometric functions is discussed. Special attention is devoted to existing techniques for the construction of the $ε$-expansion. As an example, we present a detailed discussion of the construction of the epsilon-expansion of the Appell function $F_3$ around rational values of parameters via an iterative solution of differential equations. As a by-product, we have found that the one-loop massless pentagon diagram in dimension $d=3-2ε$ is not expressible in terms of multiple polylogarithms. Another interesting example is the Puiseux-type solutio…
We determine closed and compact expressions for the epsilon-expansion of certain Gaussian hypergeometric functions expanded around half-integer values by explicitly solving for their recurrence relations. This epsilon-expansion is identified with the normalized solution of the underlying Fuchs system of four regular singular points. We compute its regularized zeta series (giving rise to two independent associators) whose ratio gives the epsilon-expansion at a specific value. Furthermore, we use the well known one-loop massive bubble integral as an example to demonstrate how to obtain all-order…
We provide new methods to straightforwardly obtain compact and analytic expressions for epsilon-expansions of functions appearing in both field and string theory amplitudes. An algebraic method is presented to explicitly solve for recurrence relations connecting different epsilon-orders of a power series solution in epsilon of a differential equation. This strategy generalizes the usual iteration by Picard's method. Our tools are demonstrated for generalized hypergeometric functions. Furthermore, we match the epsilon-expansion of specific generalized hypergeometric functions with the underlyin…
We present algorithms to evaluate two types of multiple sums, which appear in higher-order loop computations. We consider expansions of a generalized hypergeometric-type sums, $\sum_{n_1,...,n_N} [Gamma(a1.n+c1) Gamma(a2.n}+c2) ... Gamma(aM.n+cM)] / [Gamma(b1.n+d1) Gamma(b2.n+d2) ... Gamma(bM.n+dM)] x1^n1...xN^nN $ with $ai.n=\sum_{j=1}^N a_{ij}nj$, etc., in a small parameter epsilon around rational values of ci,di's. Type I sum corresponds to the case where, in the limit epsilon -> 0, the summand reduces to a rational function of nj's times x1^n1...xN^nN; ci,di's can depend on an external int…
The differential-reduction algorithm, which allows one to express generalized hypergeometric functions with parameters of arbitrary values in terms of such functions with parameters whose values differ from the original ones by integers, is discussed in the context of evaluating Feynman diagrams. Where this is possible, we compare our results with those obtained using standard techniques. It is shown that the criterion of reducibility of multiloop Feynman integrals can be reformulated in terms of the criterion of reducibility of hypergeometric functions. The relation between the numbers of mas…
We consider a class of sums over products of Z-sums whose arguments differ by a symbolic integer. Such sums appear, for instance, in the expansion of Gauss hypergeometric functions around integer indices that depend on a symbolic parameter. We present a telescopic algorithm for efficiently converting these sums into generalized polylogarithms, Z-sums, and cyclotomic harmonic sums for generic values of this parameter. This algorithm is illustrated by computing the double pentaladder integrals through ten loops, and a family of massive self-energy diagrams through $O(ε^6)$ in dimensional regular…
We show that the Lee-Pomeransky parametric representation of Feynman integrals can be understood as a solution of a certain Gel'fand-Kapranov-Zelevinsky (GKZ) system. In order to define such GKZ system, we consider the polynomial obtained from the Symanzik polynomials $g=\mathcal{U}+\mathcal{F}$ as having indeterminate coefficients. Noncompact integration cycles can be determined from the coamoeba---the argument mapping---of the algebraic variety associated with $g$. In general, we add a deformation to $g$ in order to define integrals of generic graphs as linear combinations of their canonical…
When calculating higher terms of the epsilon-expansion of massive Feynman diagrams, one needs to evaluate particular cases of multiple inverse binomial sums. These sums are related to the derivatives of certain hypergeometric functions with respect to their parameters. Exploring this connection and using it together with an approach based on generating functions, we analytically calculate a number of such infinite sums, for an arbitrary value of the argument which corresponds to an arbitrary value of the off-shell external momentum. In such a way, we find a number of new results for physically…
We consider the continuation of free and interacting scalar field theory to non-integer spacetime dimension d. We find that the correlation functions in these theories are necessarily incompatible with unitarity (or with reflection positivity in Euclidean signature). In particular, the theories contain negative norm states unless d is a positive integer. These negative norm states can be obtained via the OPE from simple positive norm operators, and are therefore an integral part of the theory. At the Wilson-Fisher fixed point the non-unitarity leads to the existence of complex anomalous dimens…
A general theory of vector-valued modular functions, holomorphic in the upper half-plane, is presented for finite dimensional representations of the modular group. This also provides a description of vector-valued modular forms of arbitrary half-integer weight. It is shown that the space of these modular functions is spanned, as a module over the polynomials in J, by the columns of a matrix that satisfies an abstract hypergeometric equation, providing a simple solution of the Riemann-Hilbert problem for representations of the modular group. Restrictions on the coefficients of this differential…
We consider an extension of the Coulomb gas picture which is motivated by Liouville theory and contains negative powers of screening operators on the same footing as positive ones. The braiding problem for chiral vertex operators in this extended framework is analyzed. We propose explicit expressions for the R-matrix with general integer screening numbers, which are given in terms of 4F3 q-hypergeometric functions through natural analytic continuations of the well-known expression for positive integer screenings. These proposals are subsequently verified using a subset of the Moore-Seiberg equ…
