This is the third and final installment in our series of papers applying the method of Atkin and Swinnerton-Dyer to deduce formulas for rank differences. The study of rank differences was initiated by Atkin and Swinnerton-Dyer in their proof of Dyson's conjectures concerning Ramanujan's congruences for the partition function. A new approach to the Dyson rank conjectures

In 1944 Dyson defined the rank of a partition as the largest part minus the number of parts, and conjectured that the residue of the rank mod 5 divides the partitions of 5n+4 into five equal classes. This gave a combinatorial explanation of Ramanujan's famous partition congruence mod 5. He made an analogous conjecture for the rank mod 7 and the partitions of 7n+5. Transformation properties for Dyson's rank function

At the 1987 Ramanujan Centenary meeting Dyson asked for a coherent group-theoretical structure for Ramanujan's mock theta functions analogous to Hecke's theory of modular forms. Many of Ramanujan's mock theta functions can be written in terms of $R(ζ,q)$, where $R(z,q)$ is the two-variable generating function of Dyson's rank function and $ζ$ is a root of unity. On the explicit construction of higher deformations of partition statistics

The modularity of the partition generating function has many important consequences, for example asymptotics and congruences for $p(n)$. In a series of papers the author and Ono \cite{BO1,BO2} connected the rank, a partition statistic introduced by Dyson, to weak Maass forms, a new class of functions which are related to modular forms and which were first considered in \cite{BF}. Sander Zwegers showed that Ramanujan's mock theta functions are $q$-hypergeometric series, whose $q$-expansion coefficients are half of the Fourier coefficients of a non-holomorphic modular form. Dyson's Ranks and Appell-Lerch Sums

Denote by $p(n)$ the number of partitions of $n$ and by $N(a,M;n)$ the number of partitions of $n$ with rank congruent to $a$ modulo $M$. We find and prove a general formula for Dyson's ranks by considering the deviation of the ranks from the average: \begin{equation*} D(a,M) := \sum_{n= 0}^{\infty}\left(N(a,M;n) - \frac{p(n)}{M}\right) q^n. \end{equation*} Using Appell--Lerch sum properties we decompose $D(a,M)$ into modular and mock modular parts so that the mock modular component is supported on certain arithmetic progressions, whose modulus we can control. Partition statistics and quasiweak Maass forms

Andrews recently introduced k-marked Durfee symbols, which are a generalization of partitions that are connected to moments of Dyson's rank statistic. He used these connections to find identities relating their generating functions as well as to prove Ramanujan-type congruences for these objects and find relations between. Congruences for Andrews' Smallest Parts Partition Function and New Congruences for Dyson's Rank

Let spt(n) denote the total number of appearances of smallest parts in the partitions of n. Recently, Andrews showed how spt(n) is related to the second rank moment, and proved some surprising Ramanujan-type congruences mod 5, 7 and 13. We prove a generalization of these congruences using known relations between rank and crank moments. We obtain explicit Ramanujan-type congruences for spt(n) mod p for p = 11, 17, 19, 29, 31 and 37.
