We consider a regular indefinite Sturm-Liouville problem with two self-adjoint boundary conditions, one being affinely dependent on the eigenparameter. We give sufficient conditions under which a basis of each root subspace for this Sturm-Liouville problem can be selected so that the union of all these bases constitutes a Riesz basis of a corresponding weighted Hilbert space.
We consider a regular indefinite Sturm-Liouville problem with two self-adjoint boundary conditions affinely dependent on the eigenparameter. We give sufficient conditions under which the root vectors of this Sturm-Liouville problem can be selected to form a Riesz basis of a corresponding weighted Hilbert space.
In this paper, we investigate the sampling analysis associated with discontinuous Sturm-Liouville problem which has transmission conditions at two points of discontinuity also contains an eigenparameter in a boundary condition and two transmission conditions. We establish briefly spectral properties of the problem and then we prove the sampling theorem associated with the problem.
In this work, we consider not only a discontinuous boundary-value problem with retarded argument and four supplementary transmission conditions at the two points of discontinuities but also, eigenparameter-dependent boundary conditions and obtain asymptotic formulas for the eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions.

In this work, we study discontinuous Sturm-Liouville type problems with eigenparameter dependent boundary condition and transmission conditions at three interior points. A self-adjoint linear operator A is defined in a suitable Hilbert space H such that the eigenvalues of such a problem coincide with those of A. We show that the eigenvalues of the problem are analytically simple, and the eigenfunctions of A are complete in H.
In this paper, we obtain a regularized trace formula for a Sturm Liouville problem which has two points of discontinuity and also contains an eigenparameter in a boundary ondition.
The purpose of this paper is to extend some spectral properties of regular Sturm-Liouville problems to the special type discontinuous boundary-value problem, which consists of a Sturm-Liouville equation together with eigenparameter-dependent boundary conditions and two supplementary transmission conditions. We construct the resolvent operator and Green's function and prove theorems about expansions in terms of eigenfunctions in modified Hilbert space $L_{2}[a, b]$. \vskip0.3cm\noindent Keywords: Boundary-value problems, transmission conditions, Resolvent operator, expansion theorem.
Sturm theory for second order differential equations was generalized to systems and higher order equations with positive leading coefficient by several authors. Here we propose a Sturm oscillation theorem for indefinite systems of even order and with Dirichlet boundary conditions having strongly indefinite leading term.
In this paper, we present a new discontinuous Sturm Liouville problem with symmetrically located discontinuities which are defined depending on a neighborhood of a midpoint of the interval. Also the problem contains an eigenparameter in one of the boundary conditions and has coupled transmission conditions at the discontinuity points. We investigate the properties of the eigenvalues, obtain asymptotic formulas for the eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions and construct Green's function of this problem.
In this paper, we investigate the sampling analysis for a new Sturm-Liouville problem with symmetrically located discontinuities which are defined to depending on a neighborhood of a midpoint of the interval. Also the problem has transmission conditions at these points of discontinuity and includes an eigenparameter in a boundary condition. We establish briefly the needed relations for the derivations of the sampling theorems and construct Green's function for the problem. Then we derive sampling representations for transforms whose kernels are either solutions or Green's functions.
In this study by applying an own technique we investigate some asymptotic approximation properties of new type discontinuous boundary-value problems, which consists of a Sturm-Liouville equation together with eigenparameter-dependent boundary and transmission conditions.
We consider a singular Sturm-Liouville expression with the indefinite weight sgn x. To this expression there is naturally a self-adjoint operator in some Krein space associated. We characterize the local definitizability of this operator in a neighbourhood of $\infty$. Moreover, in this situation, the point $\infty$ is a regular critical point. We construct an operator $A=(\sgn x)(-d^2/dx^2+q)$ with non-real spectrum accumulating to a real point. The obtained results are applied to several classes of Sturm-Liouville operators.
One important innovation here is that for the Sturm-Liouville considered equation together with eigenparameter dependent boundary conditions and two supplementary transmission conditions at one interior point. We develop Green's function method for spectral analysis of the considered problem in modified Hilbert space.
We investigate the problem of similarity to a self-adjoint operator for $J$-positive Sturm-Liouville operators $L=\frac{1}ω(-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}+q)$ with $2π$-periodic coefficients $q$ and $ω$. It is shown that if 0 is a critical point of the operator $L$, then it is a singular critical point. This gives us a new class of $J$-positive differential operators with the singular critical point 0. Also, we extend the Beals and Parfenov regularity conditions for the critical point $\infty$ to the case of operators with periodic coefficients.
We consider a regular indefinite Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problem \{$-f" + q f = λr f$} on $[a,b]$ subject to general self-adjoint boundary conditions and with a weight function $r$ which changes its sign at finitely many, so-called turning points. We give sufficient and in some cases necessary and sufficient conditions for the Riesz basis property of this eigenvalue problem. In the case of separated boundary conditions we extend the class of weight functions $r$ for which the Riesz basis property can be completely characterized in terms of the local behavior of $r$ in a neighborhood of the …
In 1996, H. Volkmer observed that the inequality \[(\int_{-1}^1\frac{1}{|r|}|f'|dx)^2 \le K^2 \int_{-1}^1|f|^2dx\int_{-1}^1\Big|\Big(\frac{1}{r}f'\Big)'\Big|^2dx \] is satisfied with some positive constant $K>0$ for a certain class of functions $f$ on $[-1,1]$ if the eigenfunctions of the problem \[ -y"=λ\, r(x)y,\quad y(-1)=y(1)=0 \] form a Riesz basis of the Hilbert space $L^2_{|r|}(-1,1)$. Here the weight $r\in L^1(-1,1)$ is assumed to satisfy $xr(x)>0$ a.e. on $[-1,1]$. We present two criteria in terms of Weyl-Titchmarsh $m$-functions for the Volkmer inequality to be valid. Using these res…
We obtain a description of the Fučik spectrum associated to the one-dimensional asymmetric problem with indefinite weights $Lu = am(t)u^+ - bn(t)u^-$ in $]T_1, T_2[$, $u'(T_1) = 0 = u'(T_2)$, where $L$ is a Sturm-Liouville operator. Our approach is based on the shooting method.
We study two problems. The first one is the similarity problem for the indefinite Sturm-Liouville operator \[ A=-(\sgn\, x)\frac{d}{wdx}\frac{d}{rdx} \] acting in $L^2_{w}(-b,b)$. It is assumed that $w,r\in L^1_{\loc}(-b,b)$ are even and positive a.e. on $(-b,b)$. The second object is the so-called HELP inequality \[(\int_{0}^b\frac{1}{\tilde{r}}|f'|\, dx)^2 \le K^2 \int_{0}^b|f|^2\tilde{w}\,dx\int_{0}^b\Big|\frac{1}{\tilde{w}}\big(\frac{1}{\tilde{r}}f'\big)'\Big|^2\tilde{w}\, dx, \] where the coefficients $\tilde{w},\tilde{r}\in L^1_{\loc}[0,b)$ are positive a.e. on $(0,b)$. Both problems are…
In this paper following the same methods in [M. Kadakal, O. Sh. Mukhtarov, Sturm-Liouville problems with discontinuities at two points, Comput. Math. Appl., 54 (2007) 1367-1379] we investigate discontinuous two-point boundary value problems with eigenparameter in the boundary conditions and with transmission conditions at the finitely many points of discontinuity. A self-adjoint linear operator A is defined in a suitable Hilbert space H such that the eigenvalues of such a problem coincide with those of A. We obtain asymptotic formulas for the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. Also we show that t…
The spectral properties of a singular left-definite Sturm-Liouville operator $JA$ are investigated and described via the properties of the corresponding right-definite selfadjoint counterpart $A$ which is obtained by substituting the indefinite weight function by its absolute value. The spectrum of the $J$-selfadjoint operator $JA$ is real and it follows that an interval $(a,b)\subset\mathbb R^+$ is a gap in the essential spectrum of $A$ if and only if both intervals $(-b,-a)$ and $(a,b)$ are gaps in the essential spectrum of the $J$-selfadjoint operator $JA$. As one of the main results it is …
We introduce GBDT version of Darboux transformation for symplectic and Hamiltonian systems as well as for Shin-Zettl systems and Sturm-Liouville equations. These are the first results on Darboux transformation for general-type Hamiltonian and for Shin-Zettl systems. The obtained results are applied to the corresponding transformations of the Weyl-Titchmarsh functions and to the construction of explicit solutions of dynamical symplectic systems, of two-way diffusion equations and of indefinite Sturm-Liouville equations. The energy of the explicit solutions of dynamical systems is expressed (in …
Sufficient conditions for the similarity of the operator $A := 1/r(x) (-d^2/dx^2 +q(x))$ with an indefinite weight $r(x)=(\sgn x)|r(x)|$ are obtained. These conditions are formulated in terms of Titchmarsh-Weyl $m$-coefficients. Sufficient conditions for the regularity of the critical points 0 and $\infty$ of $J$-nonnegative Sturm-Liouville operators are also obtained. This result is exploited to prove the regularity of 0 for various classes of Sturm-Liouville operators. This implies the similarity of the considered operators to self-adjoint ones. In particular, in the case $r(x)=\sgn x$ and $…
