The complex form of Maxwell equations has been constructed as one equation for 3-dimensional complex A-vector. The real and imaginary parts of this vector are described with use of electric and magnetic tensions accordingly. With using a theory of generalized functions for new equations, the strong shock electro-magnetic waves with the gap of tensions on fronts are considered. The conditions on wave fronts have been received. It's shown that gap of the tensions is tangent to the front of a wave, i.e. shock electromagnetic waves are transverse and charges on the front of wave are absent. Generalized laws of conservation of energy and charges have been received including ones on the fronts of shock waves. The generalized solutions of this equations and solution of Caushy problem have been constructed and the theorems of their uniqueness have been proved including the shock waves.
In this paper, based on a proposed notion of generalized conjugate harmonic pairs in the framework of complex Clifford analysis, necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of inhomogeneous perturbed generalized Moisil-Teodorescu systems in higher dimensional Euclidean spaces are proved. As an application, we derive corresponding solvability conditions for the inhomogeneous Maxwell's equations.
The Hamiltonian structure of the gauge-free gyrokinetic Vlasov-Maxwell equations is presented in terms of a Hamiltonian functional and a gyrokinetic Vlasov-Maxwell bracket. The bracket is used to show that the gyrokinetic angular-momentum conservation law can also be expressed in Hamiltonian form. The Jacobi property of the gyrokinetic Vlasov-Maxwell bracket is also demonstrated explicitly.
The covariant Hamilton-Jacobi formulation of Maxwell's equations is derived from the first-order (Palatini-like) Lagrangian using the analysis of constraints within the De~Donder-Weyl covariant Hamiltonian formalism and the corresponding polysymplectic reduction.
By using the Hamilton-Jacobi [$HJ$] framework the higher-order Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory is analyzed. The complete set of $HJ$ Hamiltonians and a generalized $HJ$ differential are reported, from which all symmetries of the theory are identified. In addition, we complete our study by performing the higher order Gitman-Lyakhovich-Tyutin [$GLT$] framework and compare the results of both formalisms.
We develop a complete Dirac's canonical analysis for an alternative action that yields Maxwell's four-dimensional equations of motion. We study in detail the full symmetries of the action by following all steps of Dirac's method in order to obtain a detailed description of symmetries. Our results indicate that such an action does not have the same symmetries than Maxwell theory, namely, the model is not a gauge theory and the number of physical degrees of freedom are different.
It is shown that Maxwell's equations in media without source can be written as a contact Hamiltonian vector field restricted to a Legendre submanifold, where this submanifold is in a fiber space of a bundle and is generated by either electromagnetic energy functional or co-energy functional. Then, it turns out that Legendre duality for this system gives the induction oriented formulation of Maxwell's equations and field intensity oriented one. Also, information geometry of the Maxwell fields is introduced and discussed.
By elementary methods, I study the Love numbers of a homogeneous, incompressible, self-gravitating sphere characterized by a generalized Maxwell rheology, whose mechanical analogue is represented by a finite or infinite system of classical Maxwell elements disposed in parallel. Analytical, previously unknown forms of the complex shear modulus for the generalized Maxwell body are found by algebraic manipulation, and studied in the particular case of systems of springs and dashpots whose strength follows a power-law distribution. We show that the sphere is asymptotically stable for any choice of…
A Hamiltonian field theory for the macroscopic Maxwell equations with fully general polarization and magnetization is stated in the language of differential forms. The precise procedure for translating the vector calculus formulation into differential forms is discussed in detail. We choose to distinguish between straight and twisted differential forms so that all integrals be taken over densities (i.e. twisted top forms). This ensures that the duality pairings, which are stated as integrals over densities, are orientation independent. The relationship between functional differentiation with r…
The Vlasov-Maxwell equations possess a Hamiltonian structure expressed in terms of a Hamiltonian functional and a functional bracket. In the present paper, the transformation ("lift") of the Vlasov-Maxwell bracket induced by the dynamical reduction of single-particle dynamics is investigated when the reduction is carried out by Lie-transform perturbation methods. The ultimate goal of this work is to derive explicit Hamiltonian formulations for the guiding-center and gyrokinetic Vlasov-Maxwell equations that have important applications in our understanding of turbulent magnetized plasmas. Here,…
The generalized Maxwell equations are considered which include an additional gradient term. Such equations describe massless particles possessing spins one and zero. We find and investigate the matrix formulation of the first order of equations under consideration. All the linearly independent solutions of the equations for a free particle are obtained in terms of the projection matrix-dyads (density matrices).
A new Hamiltonian structure of the Maxwell-Bloch equations is described. In this setting the Maxwell-Bloch equations appear as a member of a family of generalized Maxwell-Bloch systems. The family is parameterized by compact semi-simple Lie groups, the original Maxwell-Bloch system being the member corresponding to SU(2). The Hamiltonian structure is then used in the construction of a new family of symmetries and the associated conserved quantities of the Maxwell-Bloch equations.
We prove polynomial and exponential decay at infinity of eigen-vectors of partial differential operators related to radiation problems for time-harmonic generalized Maxwell systems in an exterior domain with non-smooth inhomogeneous, anisotropic coefficients converging near infinity with a certain rate towards the identity. As a canonical application we show that the corresponding eigen-values do not accumulate in R \ {0} and that by means of Eidus' limiting absorption principle a Fredholm alternative holds true.
We continue the study of the operator of generalized Maxwell equations and completely discover the behavior of the solutions of the time-harmonic equations as the frequency tends to zero. Thereby, we identify degenerate operators in terms of special 'polynomially growing' solutions of a corresponding static problem, which must be added to the 'usual' Neumann series in order to describe the low frequency asymptotic adequately.
The aim of this paper is to create a large geometrical background on the dual 1-jet space J^{1*}(T,M) for a multi-time Hamiltonian approach of the electromagnetic and gravitational physical fields. Our geometric-physical construction is achieved starting only from a given quadratic Hamiltonian function of polymomenta H, which naturally produces a canonical nonlinear connection N, a canonical Cartan N-linear connection CΓ(N) and their corresponding local distinguished (d-) torsions and curvatures. In such a context, we construct some geometrical electromagnetic-like and gravitational-like field…
We discuss the radiation problem of total reflection for a time-harmonic generalized Maxwell system in a non-smooth exterior domain with non-smooth inhomogeneous, anisotropic coefficients converging near infinity with a certain rate towards the identity. By means of the limiting absorption principle, a Fredholm alternative holds true and the eigensolutions decay polynomially resp. exponentially at infinity. We prove that the corresponding eigenvalues do not accumulate even at zero. Next, we show the convergence of the time-harmonic solutions to a solution of an electro-magneto static Maxwell s…
We consider the spinless Pauli-Fierz Hamiltonian which describes a quantum system of non-relativistic identical particles coupled to the quantized electromagnetic field. We study the time evolution in a mean-field limit where the number $N$ of charged particles gets large while the coupling to the radiation field is rescaled by $1/\sqrt{N}$. At time zero we assume that almost all charged particles are in the same one-body state (a Bose-Einstein condensate) and we assume also the photons to be close to a coherent state. We show that at later times and in the limit $N \rightarrow \infty$ the cha…
We slightly extend prior results about the derivation of the Maxwell-Schrödinger equations from the bosonic Pauli-Fierz Hamiltonian. More concretely, we show that the findings from [SIAM J. Math. Anal. 52(5), 4900-4936 (2020)] about the coherence of the quantized electromagnetic field also hold for soft photons with small energies. This is achieved with the help of an estimate from [arXiv:2202.05015] which proves that the domain of the number of photon operator is invariant during the time evolution generated by the Pauli-Fierz Hamiltonian.

This work deals with the presence of analytical vortex configurations in generalized models of the Maxwell-Higgs type in the three-dimensional spacetime. We implement a procedure that allows to decouple the first order equations, which we use to solve the model analytically. The approach is exemplified with three distinct models that show the robustness of the construction. In the third model, one finds analytical solutions that exhibit interesting compact vortex behavior.
By gauging the Maxwell spacetime algebra the standard geometric framework of Einstein gravity with cosmological constant term is extended by adding six fourvector fields A_μ^{ab}(x) associated with the six abelian tensorial charges in the Maxwell algebra. In the simplest Maxwell extension of Einstein gravity this leads to a generalized cosmological term that includes a contribution from these vector fields. We also consider going beyond the basic gravitational model by means of bilinear actions for the new Abelian gauge fields. Finally, an analogy with the supersymmetric generalization of grav…
Our goal is the discussion of the problem of mathematical interpretation of basic postulates (or `principles') of Quantum Mechanics: transitions to quantum stationary orbits, the wave-particle duality, and the probabilistic interpretation, in the context of semiclassical self-consistent Maxwell--Schrödinger equations. We discuss possible relations of these postulates to the theory of attractors of Hamiltonian nonlinear PDEs and to a new general mathematical conjecture on global attractors of G-invariant nonlinear Hamiltonian partial differential equations with a Lie symmetry group G. This conj…
The generalized Maxwell equations including an additional scalar field are considered in the first-order formalism. The gauge invariance of the Lagrangian and equations is broken resulting the appearance of a scalar field. We find the canonical and symmetrical Belinfante energy-momentum tensors. It is shown that the traces of the energy-momentum tensors are not equal to zero and the dilatation symmetry is broken in the theory considered. The matrix Hamiltonian form of equations is obtained after the exclusion of the nondynamical components. The canonical quantization is performed and the propa…
We justify the Hamilton least action principle for the Maxwell-Lorentz equations with Abraham's rotating extended electron. The main novelty in the proof is application of the variational Poincare equations on the Lie group SO(3). The variational equations allow to derive the corresponding conservation laws from general Noether theory of invariants.
The canonical reduction algorithm is applied to Maxwell and Yang-Mills equations considered as Hamiltonian systems on some fiber bundles with symplectic and connection structures. The minimum interaction principle proved to have geometric origin within the reduction method devised.
We quantize the massless p-form field that obeys the generalized Maxwell field equations in curved spacetimes of dimension n > 1. We begin by showing that the classical Cauchy problem of the generalized Maxwell field is well posed and that the field possess the expected gauge invariance. Then the classical phase space is developed in terms of gauge equivalent classes, first in terms of the Cauchy data and then reformulated in terms of Maxwell solutions. The latter is employed to quantize the field in the framework of Dimock. Finally, the resulting algebra of observables is shown to satisfy the…
Maxwell models for nonlinear kinetic equations have many applications in physics, dynamics of granular gases, economy, etc. In the present manuscript we consider such models from a very general point of view, including those with arbitrary polynomial non-linearities and in any dimension space. It is shown that the whole class of generalized Maxwell models satisfies properties which one of them can be interpreted as an operator generalization of usual Lipschitz conditions. This property allows to describe in detail a behavior of solutions to the corresponding initial value problem. In particula…
We prove the existence of a ground state of the Maxwell--Schrödinger equations in one spatial dimension, describing a specified amount of free charge under the influence of a fixed charge. For one case (equal free and fixed charge, i.e., a neutral atom), we introduce a new type of quartic Banach space, in which the Hamiltonian is naturally coercive. We also show that for a point charge, for any ratio of charge such that the ground state exists, it is symmetric and decreasing.
We develop a solution theory for a generalized electro-magneto static Maxwell system in an exterior domain with anisotropic coefficients converging at infinity with a certain rate towards the identity. Our main goal is to treat right hand side data from some polynomially weighted Sobolev spaces and obtain solutions which are up to a finite sum of special generalized spherical harmonics in another appropriately weighted Sobolev space. As a byproduct we prove a generalized spherical harmonics expansion suited for Maxwell equations. In particular, our solution theory will allow us to give meaning…
In this paper we discussed the self-adjointness of the Maxwell's equations with variable coefficients $ε$ and $μ$. Three different Lagrangian are attained. By the Legendre transformation, a multisymplectic Bridge's (Hamilton) form is obtained. Based on the multisymplectic structure, the multisymplectic conservation law of the system is derived and a nine-point Preissman multisymplectic scheme which preserve the multisymplectic conservation law is given for the Maxwell's equations in an inhomogeneous, isotropic and lossless medium. At last a numerical example is illustrated.
We use a metric invariant stress theory of continuum mechanics to formulate a simple generalization of the the basic variables of electrodynamics and Maxwell's equations to general differentiable manifolds of any dimension, thus viewing generalized electrodynamics as a special case of continuum mechanics. The basic variable is the potential, or a variation thereof, which is represented as an $r$-form in a $d$-dimensional spacetime. The stress for the case of generalized electrodynamics, is assumed to be represented by an $(d-r-1)$-form, a generalization of the Maxwell $2$-form.
We consider the extension of the general-linear and special-linear algebras by employing the Maxwell symmetry in $D$ space-time dimensions. We show how various Maxwell extensions of the ordinary space-time algebras can be obtained by a suitable contraction of generalized algebras. The extended Lie algebras could be useful in the construction of generalized gravity theories and the objects that couple to them. We also consider the gravitational dynamics of these algebras in the framework of the gauge theories of gravity. By adopting the symmetry-breaking mechanism of the Stelle-West model, we p…
The Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of electromagnetism are reviewed and the Maxwell equations are obtained from the Hamiltonian for a system of many electric charges. It is shown that three of the equations which were obtained from the Hamiltonian, namely the Lorentz force law and two Maxwell equations, can be obtained as well from a set of postulated Poisson brackets. It is shown how the results derived from these brackets can be used to reconstruct the original Lagrangian for the theory aided by some reasoning based on physical concepts.
We analyze the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of the Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory defined on a manifold with boundary for two different sets of boundary equations derived from a variational principle. We pay special attention to the identification of the infinite chains of boundary constraints and their resolution. We identify edge observables and their algebra [which corresponds to the well-known $U(1)$ Kac-Moody algebra]. Without performing any gauge fixing, and using the Hodge-Morrey theorem, we solve the Hamilton equations whenever possible. In order to give explicit solutions, we …
We use a recent {\it on-shell} Bogomol'nyi method, developed in~\cite{Atmaja:2014fha}, to construct Bogomol'nyi equations of the two-dimensional generalized Maxwell-Higgs model~\cite{Bazeia:2012uc}. The formalism can generate a large class of Bogomol'nyi equations parametrized by a constant $C_0$. The resulting equations are classified into two types, determined by $C_0=0$ and $C_0\neq0$. We identify that the ones obtained by Bazeia {\it et al}~\cite{Bazeia:2012uc} are of the type $C_0=0$. We also reveal, as in the case of ordinary vortex, that this theory does not admit Bogomol'nyi equations …
We consider generalizations of kinetic granular gas models given by Boltzmann equations of Maxwell type. These type of models for non-linear elastic or inelastic interactions, have many applications in physics, dynamics of granular gases, economy, etc. We present the problem and develop its form in the space of characteristic functions, i.e. Fourier transforms of probability measures, from a very general point of view, including those with arbitrary polynomial non-linearities and in any dimension space. We find a whole class of generalized Maxwell models that satisfy properties that characteri…
