The effects of the peculiar CP conserving phases in unparticle propagators are explored. We find that the phases have a great impact on CP-violation. We adopt the decays $B_{d}\to π^{+} π^{-}$ and $B_{d}\to \ell^{-}\ell^{+}$ as the illustrators to demonstrate the influences of these phases on the direct CP asymmetries. In particular, we emphasize that unparticle physics is the only model suggested to date that could give the direct CP asymmetries in $B_d\to \ell^{-} \ell^{+}$ as large as 15%. We also point out that the unparticle phases could be probed in $B\to K^* \ell^{+} \ell^{-}$ decays by using T-odd correlations.
We have investigated the effects of unparticles in decays $B \to l ν$. It is found that the direct CP violation in the decays, which is zero in SM, can show up due to the CP conserving phase intrinsic in unparticle physics. For $l=τ$, the direct CP asymmetry can reach 30% for the scalar unparticle contribution, and 100% for the longitudinal vector unparticle contribution under the constraints of ${\rm Br}(B\toτν)$ and $νe$ elastic scattering. If both unparticle-lepton coupling universality and unparticle-quark coupling universality are assumed the constraint from $Br(π\to μν)$ leads that the d…
We put constraints on unparticle physics, specifically on the scale $Λ_\U$ and the scale dimension $d_\U$ of unparticle operators, using (i) measurements of atomic parity violation as well as (ii) branching ratio and CP asymmetry measurements in some rare non-leptonic B decay channels.
We give a brief summary of the unparticle scenario proposed by Georgi. The CP-even phase of the propagator is exploited to study the CP-asymmetry in B+ --> tau+ + nu, which is neither experimentally searched for nor predicted by any other model. Furthermore we show that the novel CP-violation is consistent with the CPT theorem by identifying the CP-compensating mode in the unparticle sector.
We have studied the possible signals of unparticle in atomic parity violation(APV) along an isotope chain and in the NuTeV experiment. The effects of unparticle physics could be observed in APV, if the uncertainty in relative neutron/proton radius shift $δ(Δ\frac{R_N}{R_P})$ is less than a few times $10^{-4}$ by measuring the parity violating electron scattering. The constraints imposed by NuTeV experiment on unparticle physics are discussed in detail. If the NuTeV results are confirmed by future experiments, we suggest that unparticle could account for a part of NuTeV anomaly. There exist cer…
Recently H. Georgi has introduced an unparticle $\unpart$ in order to describe the low energy physics of a nontrivial scale invariant sector of an effective theory. In this work we have explored the phenomenology of an unparticle using the lepton flavour violating decay $μ^{-}\to e^{-} e^{+} e^{-}$, and found that the branching ratio of this decay is strongly dependent on the scaling dimension.
We investigate the lepton flavor violation decays of vector mesons in the scenario of the unparticle physics by considering the constraint from $μ-e$ conversion. In unparticle physics, the predictions of LFV decays of vector mesons depend strongly on the scale dimension $d_{\mathcal{U}}$. The predictions of LFV decays of vector mesons can reach the detective sensitivity in experiment in region of $3\le d_{\mathcal{U}}\le 4$, while the prediction of $μ-e$ conversion rate can meet the experimental upper limit. For the searching of the lepton flavor violation processes of charged lepton sector in…
The unparticle stuff scenario related to the notrivial IR fixed point in 4D-conformal field theory is recently suggested by Georgi. We illustrate its physical effects in Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) process. A possible signal of unparticle related to parity violation asymmetry in DIS is investigated. It is found out that the behavior of this parity violation signal is sensitive to the value of the scale dimension $d_{\cal U}$ of unpaticle.
Unparticles proposed by Georgi carry CP conserving phases in their propagators. We demonstrate that these peculiar phases have an important impact on CP violation. Without including the strong QCD phases, we study the unparticle phase effects on the direct CP asymmetries in the exclusive decays of $\bar B_d\to π^{+} π^{-}$ and $B\to πK$, in which the flavor changing neutral currents are forbidden at tree level but induced by one-loop diagrams. Interesting and consistent results comparing to the data are obtained. In addition, we find that unparticles will significantly enhance the differential…
According to the standard model, the Cabibbo-favored (CF) decays are $CP$ conserve at tree level. Observation of any finite $CP$ asymmetry can be received as a signal of new physics. In CF charm meson decays, $ D^0 \rightarrow K^- π^+ $ and $ D^+ \rightarrow K_s^0 π^+ $, the following experimental values for their $CP$ asymmetry are reported, respectively: ($0.3 \pm 0.7$) % and ($-0.41 \pm 0.09$) %. The value of the later can be attributed to the mixing of $ K^0 $ and $ \overline{K^0} $, however, its contribution is about ($-0.332 \pm 0.006 $) %. In this paper, we use these experimental result…
We propose a model that introduces a supersymmetric unparticle operator in the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model. We analyze the lowest dimension operator involving an unparticle. This operator behaves as a Standard Model gauge singlet and it introduces a new parameter into the Higgs potential which can provide an alternative way to relax the upper limit on the lightest Higgs boson mass. This operator also introduces several unparticle interactions which can induce a neutral Higgsino to decay into a spinor unparticle. It also induces violation of scale invariance around the electroweak sca…
Recently Georgi has discussed the possible existence of `Unparticles' describable by operators having non-integral scaling dimensions. With the interaction of these with the Standard Model (SM) particles being constrained only by gauge and Lorentz symmetries, it affords a new source for lepton flavour violation. Current and future muon decay experiments are shown to be very sensitive to such scenarios.
We predict the branching ratios of the lepton flavor violating Higgs decays H^0->e^{\pm} μ^{\pm}, H^0-> e^{\pm} τ^{\pm} and H^0->μ^{\pm} τ^{\pm} in the case that the lepton flavor violation is carried by the scalar unparticle mediation. We observe that their branching ratios are strongly sensitive to the unparticle scaling dimension and they can reach to the values of the order of $10^{-4}$, for the heavy lepton flavor case and for the small values of the scaling dimension.
We study unparticle effects on particle and antiparticle osillations in meson-antimeson, and muonium-antimuonium systems. Unlike usual tree level contributions to meson oscillations from heavy particle exchange with small $Γ_{12}$, the unparticle may have sizeable contributions to both $M_{12}$ and $Γ_{12}$ due to fractional dimension $d_\U$ of the unparticle. We find that very stringent constraints on the unparticle and particle interactions can be obtained. If unparticle effect dominates the contributions (which may happen in $D^0-\bar D^0$ mixing) to meson mixing parameters $x$ and $y$, we …
We investigate the effect of unparticles in the pure $ b \to d $ penguin processes $ B^0 \to K^0 \bar K^0$ and $B^{+,0} \to ϕπ^{+,0} $. Since these processes receive dominant contributions due to the {\it top} quark in the loop, direct and mixing-induced CP asymmetry parameters in these processes are expected to be vanishingly small in the standard model. We find that due to the unparticle effect sizable nonzero CP violation could be possible in these channels.
We predict the branching ratios of the lepton flavor violating Z boson decays Z\to e^{\pm} μ^{\pm}, Z\to e^{\pm} τ^{\pm} and Z\to μ^{\pm} τ^{\pm} in the case that the lepton flavor violation is carried by the scalar unparticle mediation. We observe that their BRs are strongly sensitive to the unparticle scaling dimension and the branching ratios can reach to the values of the order of 10^{-8}, for the heavy lepton flavor case, for the small values of the scaling dimension.
We study the radiative lepton flavor violating l_i -> l_j γγdecays in the case that the lepton flavor violation is induced by the scalar unparticle mediation. We restrict the scaling dimension d_u and the scalar unparticle-photon-photon coupling by using the experimental upper limit of the branching ratio of the decay μ-> e γγ. Furthermore, we predict the BRs of the other radiative decays by using the restrictions we get. We observe that the measurements of upper limits of BRs of these decays ensure considerable information for testing the possible signals coming from unparticle physics
We predict the branching ratios of the lepton flavor violating radion decays r -> e^{\pm} μ^{\pm}, r -> e^{\pm} τ^{\pm} and r ->μ^{\pm} τ^{\pm} in the framework of the Randall-Sundrum scenario that the lepton flavor violation is carried by the scalar unparticle mediation. We observe that their BRs are strongly sensitive to the unparticle scaling dimension and, for its small values, the branching ratios can reach to the values of the order of 10^{-8}, for the heavy lepton flavor case.
We investigate the effect of unparticles in the pure annihilation type decays $B^- \to D_s^-ϕ$ and $ D_s^- K^{*0}$. Since these decays have only annihilation contributions their branching ratios are expected to be very small in the standard model and the direct CP asymmetry parameters to be zero. We find that due to the unparticle effect these branching ratios can be significantly enhanced from their standard model values. Furthermore, sizable nonzero direct CP violation could also be possible in these channels due to the presence of intrinsic CP conserving phase in the unparticle propagator.
The LHCb Collaboration has recently measured the difference of time-integrated $CP$ asymmetry in $D^{0}\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}$ and $D^{0}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}$ decays, more precisely. The reported value is $ ΔA_{CP}=-0.10 \pm 0.08 (\text{stat}) \pm 0.03 (\text{syst})\% $ which indicates no evidence for $CP$ violation. We consider the possible unparticle physics contribution in this quantity and by using the LCHb data try to constrain the parameter space of unparticle stuff.
We predict the branching ratios of the lepton flavor violating Higgs decays H^0\rightarrow e^{\pm} μ^{\pm}, H^0\rightarrow e^{\pm} τ^{\pm} and H^0\rightarrow μ^{\pm} τ^{\pm} with the assumption that lepton flavor violation is due to the unparticle mediation. Here, we consider an effective interaction which breaks the conformal invariance after the electroweak symmetry breaking and causes that unparticle becomes massive. The new interaction results in a modification of the mediating unparticle propagator and brings additional contribution to the branching ratios of the lepton flavor violating d…
We have studied lepton flavor violation processes $μ\to eγ$ and $μ-e$ conversion in nuclei induced by unparticle. Both ${\rm Br}(μ\to eγ)$ and $μ-e$ conversion rate ${\rm CR}(μ-e,{\rm Nuclei})$ strongly depend on the scale dimension $d_{\cal U}$ and the unparticle coupling $λ^{ff'}_{\rm K}$(K=V, A, S, P). Present experimental upper bounds on ${\rm Br}(μ\to eγ)$, ${\rm CR}(μ-e,{\rm Ti})$ and ${\rm CR}(μ-e,{\rm Au})$ put stringent constraints on the parameters of unaprticle physics. The scale dimensions $d_{\cal U}$ around 2 are favored for the unparticle scale $Λ_{\cal U}$ of ${\cal O}(10 {\rm …
The recent measurement on the decay constant of $D_s$ shows a discrepancy between theory and experiment. We study the leptonic and semileptonic decays of $D$ and $D_s$ simultaneously within the standard model by employing a lightfront quark model. There is space by tuning phenomenological parameters which can explain the "$f_{D_s}$ puzzle" and do not contradict other experiments on the semileptonic decays. We also investigate the leptonic decays of D and $D_{s}$ with a new physics scenario, unparticle physics. The unparticle effects induce a constructive interference with the standard model co…
Unparticles ($\U$) interact weakly with particles. The direct signature of unparticles will be in the form of missing energy. We study constraints on unparticle interactions using totally invisible decay modes of $Z$, vector quarkonia $V$ and neutrinos. The constraints on the unparticle interaction scale $Λ_\U$ are very sensitive to the dimension $d_\U$ of the unparticles. From invisible $Z$ and $V$ decays, we find that with $d_\U$ close to 1 for vector $\U$, the unparticle scale $Λ_\U$ can be more than $10^4$ TeV, and for $d_\U$ around 2, the scale can be lower than one TeV. From invisible ne…
Recently the DØ Collaboration reported an observation of like-sign charge asymmetry (CA), which is about $3.2 σ$ deviation from the standard model (SM) prediction. Inspired by the observation we investigate the scalar unparticle effects, under the color charge of $SU(3)_c$ symmetry, in the CP violation in neutral B meson oscillations as well as the dispersive and absorptive parts of $\bar B_q\leftrightarrow B_q$ transition, which can be related to the CA directly. In order to illustrate the peculiar properties of unparticle, our analysis is carried out in two scenarios for the right-handed sec…
The tau is the only known lepton that can decay hadronically. From this class of decays, high precision measurements of several quantities can be extracted: the CKM matrix element $V_{us}$, the mass of the strange quark, etc. Also, as a result of its large variety of decay channels, the study of the tau lepton represents an interesting tool to search for CP violation and other new physics effects. In this work, a spin-0 unparticle is considered and its contributions to the electromagnetic and weak properties of the tau lepton are calculated. It is found that such contributions can be greater t…
We examine the unparticle CP-conserving phase effects on the direct CP asymmetry for both polarized and unpolarized lepton in the inclusive $b\to d \ell^+ \ell^-$ transition, where the flavor changing neutral currents are forbidden at tree level but are induced by one-loop penguin diagrams. The averaged polarized and unpolarized CP asymmetries depict strong dependency on the unparticle parameters. In particular, a sizable discrepancy corresponding to the standard model is achieved when the scale dimension value is $1<d_{\UP}< 2$. We see that the unparticle stuff significantly enhances, suppres…
Coupling the scale invariant unparticle sector to flavour physics and assuming that it remains scale invariant we investigate its consequences in heavy flavour physics. A drastic feature of unparticle physics is an unusual phase leading to novel CP violating phenomena. We consider the CP asymmetry in the leptonic decay B^+ -> tau^+ nu and the hadronic decay B_d -> D^+D^-, taking into account constraints of branching ratios and time dependent CP asymmetries. Generic plots are shown and it turns out that there exist parameters for which the CP violation is maximal. A prediction of a large CP asy…
We study the Bose symmetry violation through the decays of heavy vector bosons at high energies. In particular, the decay of a Z'-boson into two photons where one of the photons is the vector unparticle in the scale invariant sector is considered as a sample. We find out that the Bose symmetry might be violated in the nearly conformal sector at high energy frontier. This may be useful in phenomenological application to the CERN LHC experiments for new physics searches.
Interest has been directed recently towards low energy implications of a non-trivial conformal sector of an effective field theory with an IR fixed point (Λ), manifest in terms of ``unparticles'' with bizarre properties. We re-examine the implications of the limits on decay lifetimes of solar neutrinos for unparticle interactions. We study in detail the fundamental parameter space (Λ, M) and derive bounds on the energy scale M characterizing the new physics. We work strictly within the framework where conformal invariance holds down to low energies. We first assume that couplings of the unpart…
We investigate the implication of unparticle physics on the B_{u,d}\to (π, K) πdecays under the constraints of the B_{d,s}-\bar B_{d,s} mixing. We found that not only the unparticle parameters that belong to the flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) processes but also scaling dimension d_{\UP} could be constrained by the B_{d,s}-\bar B_{d,s} mixing phenomenology. Employing the minimum χ^2 analysis to the B_{u,d}\to (π, K) πdecays with the constraints of B_{d,s} mixing, we find that the puzzle of large branching ratio for B_{d}\to π^0 π^0 and the discrepancy between the standard model estimati…
Inspired by the recent Georgi's unparticle proposal, we study the flavor structures of the standard model (SM) particles when they couple to unparticles. At a very high energy scale, we introduce $\BZ$ charges for the SM particles, which are universal for each generation and allow $\BZ$ fields to distinguish flavor generations. At the $Λ_{\UP}$ scale, $\BZ$ operators and charges are matched onto unparticle operators and charges, respectively. In this scenario, we find that tree flavor changing neutral currents (FCNCs) can be induced by the rediagonalizations of the SM fermions. As an illustrat…
Final-state rescattering effects on the hadronic B decays and their impact on direct CP violation are examined. The phenomenology of the polarization anomaly in $B\toϕK^*$ decays is discussed.
Charm mixing and CP violation observables are examined in the light of the recently reported evidence from LHCb for CP violation in the charm sector. If the result is confirmed as being due to direct CP violation at the 1% level, its effect will need to be taken into account in the interpretation of CP violation observables. The contributions of direct and indirect CP violation to the decay rate asymmetry difference DeltaACP and the ratios of effective lifetimes AGamma and yCP are considered here. Terms relevant to the interpretation of future high precision measurements which have been neglec…
The "10$^{\rm th}$ International Workshop on the CKM Unitary Triangle" took place at the University of Heidelberg on September 17$^{\rm th}$-21$^{\rm st}$, 2018. In this write-up, we summarize the material discussed at the workshop by the Working Group 7, which focused on latest experimental results and theoretical developments in the study of mixing and $CP$ violation in the neutral $D$ system, and of $CP$ violation and decay properties of other charm mesons and baryons.
Since the discovery of CP violation more than 5 decades ago, this phenomenon is still attracting a lot of interest. Among the many fascinating aspects of this subject, this review is dedicated to direct CP violation in non-leptonic decays. The advances within the last decade have been enormous, driven by the increasingly large samples of b- and c-hadron decays, and have led to very interesting results such as large CP asymmetries in charmless B decays and the observation of direct CP violation in the charm sector. We address the quest for understanding the origin of strong phases, the importan…
We study the direct CP violation in $B^\pm\to p\bar p K^{(*)\pm}$ decays in the standard model. We point out that these three-body baryonic B decays can be important tools for detecting the direct CP violation in the charged $B$ system, in which there are no conclusive signatures yet. In particular, we show that the direct CP violating asymmetry in $B^\pm\to p\bar p K^{*\pm}$ is around 22% which supports the recent data by the BABAR Collaboration.
In the standard model, direct CP-violating asymmetries for $B^\pm \to π^\pm K$ are roughly 2% based on perturbative calculation. Rescattering effects might enhance it to at most (20-25)%. We show that lepton-number-violating couplings in supersymmetric models without R-parity are capable of inducing as large as 100% CP asymmetry in this channel. Such effects drastically modify the allowed range of the CKM parameter $γ$ arising from the combinations of the observed charged and neutral B decays in the $πK$ modes. With a multichannel analysis in B decays, one can either discover this exciting new…
Direct CP violation can exist in untagged B-meson decays to self-conjugate, three-particle final states; it would be realized as a population asymmetry in the untagged decay rate across the mirror line of the Dalitz plot of the three-body decay. We explore the numerical size of this direct CP-violating effect in a variety of B-meson decays to three pseudoscalar mesons; we show that the resulting asymmetry is comparable to the partial rate asymmetry in the analogous tagged decays, making the search for direct CP violation in the untagged decay rate, for which greater statistics accrue, advantag…
Techniques for performing model-independent searches for direct CP violation in three and four-body decays are discussed. Comments on the performance and the optimisation of a binned chisquare approach and an unbinned approach, known as the energy test, are made. The use of the energy test in the presence of background is also studied. The selection and treatment of the coordinates used to describe the phase-space of the decay are discussed. The conventional model-independent techniques, which test for P-even CP violation, are modified to create a new approach for testing for P-odd CP violatio…
We discuss the role of the radiative B decays $B \to X_{s/d} γ$ in our search for new physics focusing on the issue of direct CP violation. We discuss in some detail a SM prediction for the CP asymmetries in inclusive $b \to s/d$ transitions, namely $\mid Δ{\cal B}(B \to X_s γ) + Δ{\cal B}(B \to X_d γ) \mid \sim 1 \cdot 10^{-9}$. Any measured value in significant deviation of this estimate would indicate new sources of CP violation beyond the CKM phase.
In this paper, we focused on the recent progress of $γ/ϕ_{3}$ from $B\rightarrow DK$, DCPV effects in charmless hadronic $B_{(S)}$ decays and the prospects of SuperB and BelleII experiments.
In this letter we reinterpret and reanalyze the available data of the B meson factories showing the existence of direct experimental evidence of time reversal invariance violation in B mesons. This reinterpretation consists of using the available observables to define a new observable which, in a model independent way and without assuming CPT invariance, compares a transition between a $B^0$ and a here-defined $B_α$-state, with its time reversed transition. The observable then offers a direct way to probe time reversal invariance and it is therefore independent of any conclusion obtained from …
In the presence of both direct and indirect unitarity violation in the lepton mixing matrix, we derive a complete set of series expansion formulas for neutrino oscillation probabilities in matter of constant density. Expansions in the mass hierarchy parameter $α\equiv Δm_{21}^{2} / Δm_{31}^{2}$ and those unitarity violation parameters $s^{2}_{ij}$ (for i = 1, 2, 3 and j = 4, 5, 6) up to the first order are studied in this paper. We analyse the accuracy of the analytical series expansion formulas in different regions of L / E. A detailed numerical analysis is also performed, of which the differ…
We present a new and sensitive method to observe direct CP violation in $D$ mesons using Bose symmetry and Dalitz plot. We apply the method to processes such as $B \to D^0\bar{D}^0 P$, where $P$ is either a $K$ or a $π$. By choosing to reconstruct $D$ mesons only through their decays into CP eigenstates, we show that any asymmetry in the Dalitz plot can arise only through direct CP violation. We further show how CP violation parameters can be determined. Since the approach involves only Bose symmetry, the method is applicable to any multi-body process that involves $D^0\bar{D}^0$ in the final …
A method for clean determination of the unitarity angles alpha and gamma is proposed that uses only direct CP violation and does not require any time dependent measurements. The method takes advantage of helicity amplitudes for B_u, B_d and B_s decay to two vector mesons and can be used, at any B-facility, in conjunction with a large number of modes. It also allows for experimental tests of theoretical approximations involved.
A possible effect of direct CP violation in D->K0Spipi decay on the gamma measurement from B->DK, D->K0Spi+pi- Dalitz plot analysis is considered. Systematic uncertainty of gamma coming from the current limits on direct CP violation in D->K0Spi+pi- is estimated, and a modified model-independent procedure of B->DK, D->K0Spi+pi- Dalitz plot analysis is proposed that gives an unbiased gamma measurement even in presence of direct CP violation in charm decays. The technique is applicable to other three-body D decays such as D->K0SK+K-, D->pi+pi-pi0, etc.
In the study of CP violation within and beyond the Standard Model of particle physics, pure hadronic B decays are the key players. Improving the determination of the CKM angle $γ$ is one of the important tasks in this endeavour. Besides, the full description of pure hadronic decays due to their strong interaction dynamics remains one of the challenges. In this summary, we discuss the recent results and progress on $γ$ determinations and direct CP violation in pure hadronic B decays as presented at CKM 2018.
The recent observation of B^0_d->π^0π^0 and \bar{B}^0_d->π^0π^0 decay modes allows us to make a fresh isospin analysis of B->ππtransitions. We find that current experimental data can impose some model-independent constraints on the parameter space of direct CP violation in B_d->π^+π^- and B_d->π^0π^0. Furthermore, we establish a direct relationship between the weak phase αand the charge-averaged branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetries of B->ππdecays.
These proceedings review direct CP violation in hadronic B decays. The experimental results include those related to the measurement of the unitarity triangle angle gamma using B->D(*)K(*) decays and measurements of charmless hadronic B decays. The results reported have been made by the BABAR, Belle and LHCb collaborations. Theoretical calculations related to these decays are also summarised. The importance of inputs from the charm sector in determining gamma from B->D(*)K(*) decays is discussed. In addition, the future prospects for these measurements will be reviewed.
Motivated by the $3.8σ$ deviation from no CP violation hypothesis for the CP asymmetry (CPA) difference between $D^0\to K^+ K^-$ and $D^0\to π^+ π^-$, reported recently by LHCb and CDF, we investigate the CP violating effect due to the left-right (LR) mixing in the general LR symmetric model. In particular, in the non-manifest LR model we show that the large CPA difference could be explained, while the constraints from $(ε'/ε)_K$ and $D^0$-$\bar D^0$ are satisfied.
We study direct CP violation in the bottom baryon decays Λ_b -> f ρ^0 (ω) -> fπ^+π^- (f=n or Λ). It is found that in these decays via ρ-ωmixing the CP violation could be very large when the invariant mass of the π^+π^- pair is in the vicinity of the ωresonance. With a typical value N_c =2 in the factorization approach, the maximum CP-violating asymmetries are more than 50% and 68% for Λ_b -> n π^+π^- and Λ_b -> Λπ^+π^-, respectively. With the aid of heavy quark symmetry and phenomenological models for the hadronic wave functions of Λ_b, Λand the neutron, we estimate the branching ratios of Λ_b…
LHCb, CDF and most recently Belle have observed a large difference between direct CP asymmetries in $D^0\to K^+K^-$ and $D^0\toπ^+π^-$. We use the measured value of $ΔA_{CP}$ to constrain the magnitude and strong phase of a QCD-enhanced standard model penguin and predict its effects on direct CP asymmetry in $D^0\toπ^0π^0$ and $D^+\to K^+\bar{K}^0$.
There are different approaches for the hadronic B decay calculations, recently. In this paper, we upgrade three of them, namely factorization, QCD factorization and the perturbative QCD approach based on $k_T$ factorization, by using new parameters and full wave functions. Although they get similar results for many of the branching ratios, the direct CP asymmetries predicted by them are different, which can be tested by recent experimental measurements of B factories.
We analyze possible interpretations of the recent LHCb evidence for CP violation in D meson decays in terms of physics beyond the Standard Model. On general grounds, models in which the primary source of flavor violation is linked to the breaking of chiral symmetry (left-right flavor mixing) are natural candidates to explain this effect, via enhanced chromomagnetic operators. In the case of supersymmetric models, we identify two motivated scenarios: disoriented A-terms and split families. These structures predict other non-standard signals, such as nuclear EDMs close to their present bounds an…
This presentation at the conference "50 years of CP violation", 10 - 11 July 2014, held at Queen Mary University of London covers an introduction to time reversal and motion reversal, the phenomenology of K0-K0bar transitions, unitarity relations, the first observation of T violation in 1970, later results from Bell-Steinberger unitarity analyses, searches for T violation in K0 to pi ell nu decay amplitudes and in the transverse muon polarisation of K to pi mu nu decays, direct observation of T violation by motion reversal in K0-K0bar transitions, and "direct T violation" in K0 to pi pi, I=2 d…
Evidence of CP violation in the charm sector has been observed recently by the LHCb and CDF Collaborations. The issue of whether it can be accommodated within the standard model (SM) is examined in this talk. We conclude that the CP asymmetry difference $Δa_{CP}^{\rm dir}$ between $D^0 \to K^+ K^-$ and $D^0 \to π^+ π^-$ is of order $-(0.14\sim 0.15)%$. If the improved theoretical estimate of $Δa_{CP}^{\rm dir}$ in the SM remains to be a few per mille and the experimental measurement continues to be large with more statistics in the future, it will be clear evidence of physics beyond the SM in …
The search for rare B decays and direct CP violation at BABAR is described. The following measurements (based on integrated luminosities ranging from 56.4 to 81.9fb-1) are summarized: the inclusive branching fractions and direct CP asymmetries of B+ to h+h-h+ (h=pi, K), the exclusive branching fractions of B+ to K+pi-pi+ (where significant signals are observed in the B+ to K*0(892)pi+, B+ to f0(980)K+, B+ to chic0 K+, B+ to Dbar0 pi+ and B^+ to higher K*0 pi+ channels), the branching fractions of B+ to rho0rho+ and B+ to rho0 K*+, and finally, the branching fractions, the longitudinal componen…
We analyze the supersymmetric contributions to direct-CP-violating observables in $K \to ππγ$ decays induced by gluino-mediated magnetic-penguin operators. We find that $\epsp_{+-γ}$ and the differential width asymmetry of $K^\pm \to π^\pm π^0 γ$ decays could be substantially enhanced with respect to their Standard Model values, especially in the scenario where $\epsp/\eps$ is dominated by supersymmetric contributions. These observables could therefore provide a useful tool to search for New Physics effects in $|ΔS|=1$ transitions, complementary to $\epsp/\eps$ and rare decays.
Motivated by the recent observation of CP violation in the charm sector by LHCb, we study direct CP asymmetries in the standard model (SM) for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed two-body hadronic decays of charmed mesons using the topological-diagram approach. In this approach, the magnitude and the phase of topological weak annihilation amplitudes which arise mainly from final-state rescattering can be extracted from the data. Consequently, direct CP asymmetry $a_{dir}^{\rm (tree)}$ at tree level can be reliably estimated. In general, it lies in the range $10^{-4}<a_{dir}^{\rm (tree)}<10^{-3}$. Sh…
Direct CP violation in two-body $D\to PP$ and $D\to V\!P$ decays is studied within the framework of the topological amplitude approach for tree amplitudes and the QCD factorization approach for penguin amplitudes. It is the interference between tree and long-distance penguin and penguin-exchange amplitudes that pushes CP asymmetry difference between $D^0\to K^+K^-$ and $π^+π^-$ modes up to the per mille level. Using the same mechanism, we find that CP asymmetry can also occur at the $10^{-3}$ level in many of the $D\to V\!P$ channels or otherwise be negligibly small. There are six golden modes…
