Measurements of various particle species over an extended momentum range provide a sensitive experimental tool for investigating particle production mechanisms in hadronic collisions. Comparison of the spectral shapes from different collision centralities measured with the STAR detector at RHIC allows one to study the interplay of soft and hard particle production for mesons and investigate various baryon-meson effects. Systematic studies of identified particle spectra for various colliding systems and different incident energies provide additional insights toward the interplay between fragmentation and non-fragmentation contributions to the particle production. In these proceedings we present a systematic study of transverse momentum spectra for charged pions, protons and antiprotons from Au+Au and Cu+Cu data at sqrt(s_NN)=200 and 62.4 GeV as a function of collision centrality. We compare those measurements with p+p and d+Au data, investigating the system effects on energy loss.
Differential measurements of various particle species over an extended momentum range provide a sensitive experimental tool for investigation of energy loss mechanisms in the medium created in nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC. In these proceedings, a systematic study of transverse momentum spectra for charged pions, protons and antiprotons from Cu+Cu data at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$GeV as a function of collision centrality will be presented. Such systematic studies provide additional insights into the interplay between fragmentation and non-fragmentation contributions to the particle production. …
Studies of <p_{T}>, transverse momentum spectra and anisotropy flow from nuclear collisions at RHIC indicate early thermalization and strong collective expansion. We propose a systematic study of the anisotropy parameter $v_2$ and the transverse momentum distributions of $ϕ, Ω, D^0, Λ_C$ and $J / ψ$ in order to extract information on partonic collective flow.
Transverse momentum spectra up to 4.5 GeV/c were measured around midrapidity in Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt{s_{NN}}=17.3 GeV, for pi^{+/-}, p, pbar and K^{+/-}, by the NA49 experiment. The nuclear modification factors R_{AA}, R_{AA/pA} and R_{CP} were extracted and are compared to RHIC results at sqrt{s_{NN}}=200 GeV. The modification factor R_{AA} shows a rapid increase with transverse momentum in the covered region. The modification factors R_{AA/pA} and R_{CP} shows a saturation well below unity in the pi^{+/-} channel. The extracted R_{CP} values follow the 200 GeV RHIC results closely in the…
We present preliminary results of Non-Photonic Electron (NPE) production, NPE-hadron azimuthal correlation as well as NPE elliptic flow studies at midrapidity using a data set with high statistics and low photon conversion background from $Au+Au$ collisions at $\sqrt {S_{NN}} = 200$ GeV collected at RHIC in Run 2010.
Strong modification of event-by-event fluctuations in global observables was proposed by several authors as an indicator of the phase transition in system evolution. We report the results of the analysis of STAR TPC data on the charged multiplicity and mean transverse momentum fluctuations in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=130 GeV. We discuss the centrality dependence of the observed fluctuations and compare the results with available data from lower collision energies and ISR data.
Preliminary results are presented for two analyses of transverse energy (ET) production measured with the electromagnetic calorimeters of the Pioneering High Energy Nuclear Interaction Experiment (PHENIX), in nuclear interactions in Au+Au heavy-ion collisions created by the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Event-by-event ET distributions made across collision centrality were used in (1) measurements of 200 GeV mean ET, and (2) measurements of 200 GeV and 62.4 GeV ET distribution fluctuations. Event centrality was selected in 5% wide bins and each bin r…
Preliminary results on inclusive neutral pion production in d-Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV in the pseudo-rapidity range 0<eta<1 are presented. The measurement is performed using the STAR Barrel Electromagnetic calorimeter (BEMC). In this paper, the analysis of the first BEMC hadron measurement is described and the results are compared with earlier RHIC findings. The pi0 invariant differential cross sections show good agreement with next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculations.
We present results on charged particle and transverse energy densities measured at mid-rapidity in Au-Au collisions at sqrt(s_{NN})=200 GeV. The mean transverse energy per charged particle is derived. The results are presented as a function of centrality, which is defined by the number of participating nucleons, and compared to results obtained in Au-Au collisions at sqrt{s_{NN})=130 GeV. A comparison with calculations from various theoretical models is performed.
Preliminary results are presented on high-pT inclusive neutral pion production in d+Au collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 200 GeV in the pseudo-rapidity range 0 < eta < 1. Photons from the decay pi0->gamma,gamma are detected in the Barrel electromagnetic calorimeter of the STAR experiment at RHIC. The analysis procedure is described in detail and the results are found to be in good agreement with earlier STAR findings and with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations.
The transverse energy distributions ($E_{T}$) have been measured for Au + Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 62.4$ GeV by the STAR experiment at RHIC. They have been obtained from two measurements, the hadronic transverse energy ($E_{T}^{had}$) and the electromagnetic transverse energy($E_{T}^{em}$). $E_{T}^{had}$ has been measured from the tracks obtained by Time Projection Chamber (TPC) excluding the electrons and positrons. $E_{T}^{em}$ has been obtained by the STAR Barrel Electromagetic Calorimeter (BEMC) which measures the energy of electrons, positrons and photons. The measure of transver…
We report measurements of charmed hadron production from hadronic ($D^{0}\rightarrow Kπ$) and semileptonic ($μ$ and $e$) decays in 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. Analysis of the spectra indicates that charmed hadrons have a different radial flow pattern from light or multi-strange hadrons. Charm cross sections at mid-rapidity are extracted by combining the three independent measurements, covering the transverse momentum range that contributes to $\sim$90% of the integrated cross section. The cross sections scale with number of binary collisions of the initial nucleons, a signature of charm …
The structure of hadron-hadron correlations is investigated in proton-proton collisions. We focus on the transmission of the initial transverse momenta of partons (``intrinsic $k_T$'') to the hadron-hadron correlations. Values of the intrinsic transverse momentum obtained from experimental correlations are compared to the results of a model with partially randomized parton transverse momenta at ISR and RHIC energies. Procedures for extracting the correlations from data are discussed.
From Pythia simulations of pp collisions we determine the mean transverse momentum <Pt> of partons producing the leading and associated particles studied in di-hadron correlations. The dependence of <Pt> on the associated particle transverse momentum and expected differences at RHIC and LHC centre of mass energies are discussed.
We present the incident energy and system size dependence of the pT spectra for charged pions, protons, and anti-protons using Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions at Sqrt(sNN) = 62.4 and 200 GeV in STAR experiment at RHIC. Through these measurements in the pT range of 0.2 < pT < 10 GeV/c we conduct a systematic study of the beam energy, system size and particle species dependence of nuclear modification factors and address specific predictions from the quark coalescence models regarding the beam energy dependence of baryon enhancement in the intermediate pT (2 < pT < 6 GeV/c) region.
Using a covariant coalescence model, we study hadron production in relativistic heavy ion collisions from both soft partons in the quark-gluon plasma and hard partons in minijets. Including transverse flow of soft partons and independent fragmentation of minijet partons, the model is able to describe available experimental data on pion, kaon, and antiproton spectra. The resulting antiproton to pion ratio is seen to increase at low transverse momenta and reaches a value of about one at intermediate transverse momenta, as observed in experimental data at RHIC. A similar dependence of the antikao…
Results from the PHENIX experiment for the first RHIC run with Au-Au collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 130 GeV are presented. The systematic variation with centrality of charged particle multiplicity, transverse energy, elliptic flow, identified particle spectra and yield ratios, and production of charged particles and neutral pions at high transverse momenta are presented. Results on two-pion correlations and electron spectra are also provided, along with a discussion of plans for the second run at RHIC.
The PHOBOS experiment at RHIC has the unique capability of measuring particle production at very low transverse momenta. New results on low-transverse momentum invariant yields of pions, kaons, protons and antiprotons in 200 GeV Au+Au collisions are presented as a function of the collision centrality for the 50% most central events. In contrast to the results from d+Au collisions, no $m_{T}$ scaling is observed in the very low $p_{T}$ region. The low transverse momentum yields agree with extrapolations from intermediate transverse momentum measurements. For all collision centralities a flatten…
Identified pi^[+/-] K^[+/-], p and p-bar transverse momentum spectra at mid-rapidity in sqrt(s_NN)=130 GeV Au-Au collisions were measured by the PHENIX experiment at RHIC as a function of collision centrality. Average transverse momenta increase with the number of participating nucleons in a similar way for all particle species. The multiplicity densities scale faster than the number of participating nucleons. Kaon and nucleon yields per participant increase faster than the pion yields. In central collisions at high transverse momenta (p_T greater than 2 GeV/c), anti-proton and proton yields a…
The first results from Au-Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=130 GeV obtained with the PHENIX detector in the Year 2000 run at RHIC are presented. The mid-rapidity charged particle multiplicity and transverse energy per participating nucleon rise steadily with the number of participants, such that transverse energy per charged particle remains relatively constant as a function of centrality. Identified charged hadron spectra as well as $\bar{p}/p$ and $K^+/K^-$ ratios are discussed. Charged particle and neutral pion transverse momentum distributions in peripheral nuclear collisions are consisten…
Measuring the single transverse spin asymmetry $A_N$ for large $x_F$ Drell-Yan production provides the most robust test of our current theoretical understanding of transverse proton spin structure. This includes a measurement of the predicted sign change of the Sivers function in comparison to that found in SIDIS data. The first year of a feasibility test has been completed to define the requirements for measuring large $x_F$ Drell-Yan production at RHIC. The impact of colliding beams at a third IR at RHIC was found to be negligible and a rich jet-triggered data sample was acquired by AnDY in …
We present results on charged particle production at very low transverse momenta in the 15% most central Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV obtained with the PHOBOS detector at RHIC. The invariant yields were measured at mid-rapidity in the transverse momentum ranges from 30 to 50 MeV/c for charged pions, 90 to 130 MeV/c for charged kaons and 140 to 210 MeV/c for protons and antiprotons. No significant enhancement in low transverse momentum particle production is observed as compared to extrapolations of identified particle spectra measured at an intermediate pT range. The spectra tend t…
PHENIX measurements of high transverse momentum ($p_T$) identified hadrons in $d$+Au and Au+Au collisions are presented. The nuclear modification factors ($R_{d{\rm A}}$ and $R_{\rm AA}$) for $π^0$ and $η$ are found to be very consistent in both collision systems, respectively. Using large amount of $p+p$ and Au+Au datasets, the fractional momentum loss ($S_{\rm loss}$) and the path-length dependent yield of $π^0$ in Au+Au collisions are obtained. The hadron spectra in the most central $d$+Au and the most peripheral Au+Au collisions are studied. The spectra shapes are found to be similar in bo…
Experimental results for identified hadron spectra in AA collisions at RHIC are reviewed. Jet suppression in central AuAu collisions at 200 GeV is seen in leading meson and baryon spectra at high p_t. Enhanced baryon production at intermediate p_T (2<p_t<5 GeV/c) is related to quark content but not its mass.In d+Au collisions Cronin enhancement is observed with larger magnitude for baryons than for mesons, but this difference can not explain the baryon-to-meson ratio in Au+Au collisions. In Au+Au the observations at 62.4 GeV and 200 GeV are very similar, but smaller suppresion of the leading p…
Large transverse single-spin asymmetries (TSSA) in hadron production at forward rapidity have been observed in polarized $p$+$p$ interactions for many decades, over a large range of center-of-mass energies, and have led to the investigation of spin-momentum correlations such as the Sivers and Collins effects. In the last few years, it has been discovered at RHIC that these single-spin asymmetries may be enhanced or suppressed in $p$+$A$ collisions, and the nuclear-size and centrality dependence have been studied. A variety of phenomena have been observed and likely they do not have all a singl…
The transverse momentum spectra of identified charged particles have been measured at very low and intermediate transverse momenta in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 62.4 GeV and d+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV using the PHOBOS detector at RHIC. New results on charged particle production at very low p_T in central Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_{NN) = 200 GeV in the centrality intervals 0-6% and 6-15% are presented. A comparison of the PHOBOS low-p_T data with predictions of a recent optical model is shown. The shapes of m_T spectra for d+Au and Au+Au collisions are compared.
Recent results on identified hadrons from the PHENIX experiment in Au+Au collisions at mid-rapidity at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV are presented. The centrality dependence of transverse momentum distributions and particle ratios for identified charged hadrons are studied. The transverse flow velocity and freeze-out temperature are extracted from $p_{T}$ spectra within the framework of a hydrodynamic collective flow model. Two-particle HBT correlations for charged pions are measured in different centrality selections for a broad range of transverse momentum of the pair. Results on elliptic flow m…
Transverse momentum spectra for neutral pions have been measured by the WA98 experiment in sqrt{s_{nn}}=17.3 GeV Pb+Pb collisions at the CERN SPS and by the PHENIX experiment in sqrt{s_{nn}}=130 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. The neutral pion yields in central collisions for both reaction systems are compared to scaled transverse momentum spectra for nucleon-nucleon reactions at the respective energy. At SPS energies neutral pion production at high $p_T$ is enhanced compared to the n+n reference while at RHIC a significant suppression of high-pT neutral pions is observed.
Transverse momentum spectra up to 4.5 GeV/c around midrapidity of pi^{+/-}, p, pbar, K^{+/-} in Pb+Pb reactions were measured at sqrt{s_{NN}}=17.3 GeV by the CERN-NA49 experiment. The nuclear modification factors R_{AA} for pi^{+/-} and R_{CP} for pi^{+/-},p,pbar,K^{+/-} were extracted and are compared to RHIC results at sqrt{s_{NN}}=200 GeV. The modification factor R_{AA} shows a rapid increase with transverse momentum in the covered region. This indicates that the Cronin effect is the dominating effect in our energy range. The modification factor R_{CP}, in which the contribution of the Cron…
Detailed measurements of the azimuthal anisotropy (\v2) for identified charged particles are reported as a function of transverse momentum ($p_T$) and centrality for Au+Au collisions at \sqrtsNN = 200 GeV. The measurements indicate clear evidence for eccentricity and particle flavor scaling over a broad range of centralities and transverse rapidity $y_T$, indicating a hydrodynamical origin of the fine structure of azimuthal anisotropy at RHIC. The observed scaling supports the picture of a suddenly hadronizing (recombining) fluid of quarks. An apparent breaking of flavor scaling at relatively …
We analyze the transverse momentum distribution of $J/ψ$ mesons produced in Au + Au collisions at the top RHIC energy within a blast-wave model that accounts for a possible inhomogeneity of the charmonium distribution and/or flow fluctuations. The results imply that the transverse momentum spectra of$J/ψ$, $ϕ$ and $Ω$ hadrons measured at the RHIC can be described well if kinetic freeze-out takes place just after chemical freeze-out for these particles.
We present measurements by STAR of the anisotropic flow coefficients $v_2$ and $v_4$ as a function of particle-type, centrality, transverse momentum and pseudorapidity in Au+Au collisions at RHIC.
In this paper we present the measurement of charged pion two-particle femtoscopic correlation functions in 200 GeV Au+Au collisions, in 31 average transverse mass bins, separately for positive and negative pion pairs. Lévy-shaped source distributions yield a statistically acceptable description of the measured correlation functions, with three physical parameters: correlation strength parameter lambda, Lévy index alpha and Lévy scale parameter R. The transverse mass dependence of these Lévy parameters is then investigated and their physical interpretation is also discussed, and the appearance …
At this conference first data from RHIC has been presented. Spectra of charged hadrons and identified neutral pions obtained in central collisions exhibit a depletion at large transverse momenta compared to expectations deduced from $pp$ and $\bar{p}p$ data and lower energy heavy ion data. While spectra measured in peripheral collisions exhibit the expected power-law shape, spectra from central collisions are closer to exponential. In addition, a significant azimuthal anisotropy of high momentum charged particle production has been found. All observations are in qualitative agreement with theo…
This paper presents $v_{4}/v_{2}^2$ ratio as a function of transverse momentum ($p_{t}$), pseudorapidity ($η$) and collision centrality in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV using the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). It is found that $v_{4}/v_{2}^2$ is larger than Hydrodynamic calculations, the centrality and transverse dependence of this ratio can not be fully described by Hydrodynamics, and the pseudorapidity dependence is opposite to what one expects from Hydrodynamics. The $p_{t}$ dependence of $v_{1}$ is also presented. It is found that $v_{1}(p_{t})…
The first measurement of energy produced transverse to the beam direction at RHIC is presented. The mid-rapidity transverse energy density per participating nucleon rises steadily with the number of participants, closely paralleling the rise in charged-particle density, such that E_T / N_ch remains relatively constant as a function of centrality. The energy density calculated via Bjorken's prescription for the 2% most central Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=130 GeV is at least epsilon_Bj = 4.6 GeV/fm^3 which is a factor of 1.6 larger than found at sqrt(s_NN)=17.2 GeV (Pb+Pb at CERN).
Large transverse single spin asymmetries (SSA) were measured for pions produced in pp-collisions up to RHIC energies. Sizeable SSA were also found in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS). Theory can explain such spin effects by going beyond collinear leading-twist perturbative QCD (pQCD) to include transverse momentum dependent (TMD) distribution and fragmentation functions. One of the most interesting TMDs is the Sivers function, which provides information on the correlation between the transverse spin of the nucleon and the transverse momentum distributions of the partons in the …
The single-freeze-out model of hadron production is used to describe the particle ratios and the transverse-momentum spectra from RHIC. The emphasis is put on the new measurements done at the highest beam energy of 200 GeV. An overall very good agreement is found between the data and the model predictions. The data for different centrality windows are analyzed separately. A simple scaling of the two expansion parameters of the model with the centrality is found. Interestingly, this scaling turns out to be equivalent to the scaling of hadron production with the number of wounded nucleons.
We study the charged particle and transverse energy production mechanism from AGS, SPS, RHIC to LHC energies in the framework of nucleon and quark participants. At RHIC and LHC energies, the number of nucleons-normalized charged particle and transverse energy density in pseudorapidity, which shows a monotonic rise with centrality, turns out to be an almost centrality independent scaling behaviour when normalized to the number of participant quarks. A universal function which is a combination of logarithmic and power-law, describes well the charged particle and transverse energy production both…
The rapidity distribution and transverse spectra of most copious particles such as pions, Kaons and antiprotons from central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV and central Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV have been investigated in the framework of Landau hydrodynamical model. With a more realistic choice of freeze-out condition and the employment of lattice equation of state, we find transverse expansion of the collision systems is important to explain the observed data. With the increase of collision energy from RHIC to LHC, transverse flow becomes more and more important…
Transverse momentum spectra of particles produced in high energy collisions are very important due to their relations to the excitation degree of interacting system. To describe the transverse momentum spectra, one can use more than one probability density functions of transverse momenta, which are simply called the functions or distributions of transverse momenta in some cases. In this paper, a few distributions of transverse momenta in high energy collisions are compared with each other in terms of plots to show some quantitative differences. Meanwhile, in the framework of Tsallis statistics…
Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is a basic gauge field theory to describe strong interactions. Lattice QCD calculations predict a phase transition from hadronic matter to a deconfined, locally thermalized Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) state at high temperature and small baryon density. Plenty of exciting results from RHIC experiments in the first three years have demonstrated that a hot dense matter with strong collective motion which cannot be described with hadronic degrees of freedom was created at RHIC. Charm quarks are believed to be mostly created from initial gluon fusion in heavy ion collision…
Predictions of the single-freeze-out model for the particle spectra at RHIC are presented. The model assumes that the chemical and thermal freeze-outs occur simultaneously, and incorporates in simple terms the longitudinal and transverse flow. All resonance decays are included. The model predictions and the data are in striking agreement in the whole available range of momenta.
We evaluate $n$-particle ($n=2,3,4,5$) transverse momentum correlations for pions and kaons following from the decay of statistical clusters. These correlation functions could provide strong constraints on a possible existence of thermal clusters in the process of particle production.
The transverse momentum spectra of final-state light flavor particles produced in proton-proton (p-p), copper-copper (Cu-Cu), gold-gold (Au-Au), lead-lead (Pb-Pb), and proton-lead (p-Pb) collisions for different centralities at relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC) and large hadron collider (LHC) energies are studied in the framework of a multisource thermal model. The experimental data measured by the STAR, CMS, and ALICE Collaborations are consistent with the results calculated by the multi-component Erlang distribution and Tsallis Statistics. The effective temperature and real temperature …
We show that with a realistic treatment of spectator momentum distributions the RHIC detector trigger sensitivity is high even when RHIC is run below injection energies. In particular, a problem region with $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=10 to 60 or 80 GeV assuming a simple Fermi step model is not found when using a more realistic one. We argue also that production of fast nucleons (with momenta $> p_F$ in the nucleus rest frame) provides complementary information about the collision process.
We investigate the potentialities offered by the study of J/psi exclusive photo-production in ultra-peripheral collisions at a fixed-target experiment using the proton and lead LHC beams (generically denoted as AFTER@LHC) on hydrogen targets and at RHIC in the collider mode. We compare the expected counting rates in both set-ups. Studying Single-Transverse-Spin Asymmetries (A_N) in such a process provides a direct path to the proton Generalised Parton Distribution (GPD) E_g(x,xi,t). We evaluate the expected precision on A_N for realistic conditions with the LHCb detector in pH(pol) and PbH(pol…
The PHENIX experiment at BNL-RHIC recently reported the single transverse spin asymmetry $A_N$ for forward neutrons measured in polarized proton-nucleus collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200\,$GeV; $A_N$ in proton-aluminum and proton-gold collisions are -0.015 and 0.18, respectively, which are clearly different from $A_N=-0.08$ in proton-proton collisions. In this paper, we propose large $A_N$ for forward neutrons in ultraperipheral polarized proton-nucleus collisions as an explanation of the PHENIX measurements. The proposed model is demonstrated using two Monte Carlo simulations organized as fo…
We present results and predictions for the nuclear modification of the differential cross sections for inclusive light hadron and prompt photon production in minimum bias d+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 200$ GeV and minimum bias p+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 5$ TeV at RHIC and LHC, respectively. Our calculations combine the leading order perturbative QCD formalism with cold nuclear matter effects that arise from the elastic, inelastic and coherent multiple scattering of partons in large nuclei. We find that a theoretical approach that includes the isospin effect, Cronin effect, cold nuclear ma…
We report $J/ψ$ spectra for transverse momenta $p_T$> 5 GeV/$c$ at mid-rapidity in p+p and Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_{NN}) = 200 GeV.The inclusive $J/ψ$ spectrum and the extracted $B$-hadron feed-down are compared to models incorporating different production mechanisms. We observe significant suppression of the $J/ψ$ yields for $p_T$> 5 GeV/$c$ in 0-30% Au+Au collisions relative to the p+p yield scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions in Au+Au collisions. In 30-60% collisions, no such suppression is observed. The level of suppression is consistently less than that of high-$p_…
The method of measuring $\hat{x}_h=\hat{p}_{Ta}/\hat{p}_{Tt}$, the ratio of the away-parton transverse momentum, $\hat{p}_{T_a}$, to the trigger-parton transverse momentum, $\hat{p}_{T_t}$, using two-particle correlations at RHIC, will be reviewed. This measurement is simply related to the two new variables introduced at LHC for the di-jet fractional transverse momentum imbalance: ATLAS $A_J=(\hat{p}_{Tt}-\hat{p}_{Ta})/(\hat{p}_{Tt}+\hat{p}_{Ta})= (1-\hat{x}_h)/(1+\hat{x}_h)$; and CMS $\mean{(\hat{p}_{Tt}-\hat{p}_{Ta})/\hat{p}_{Tt}}= \mean{1-\hat{x}_h}$. Results from two-particle correlations …
Measurements of three-dimensional correlation functions of like-sign low transverse momentum kaon pairs from Au+Au collisions at top RHIC energy $\sqrt s_{NN}$=200 GeV are presented. The extracted kaon source function is narrower than the pion one and does not have the long tail along the pair transverse momentum direction. This indicates a much smaller role of long-lived resonance decays and/or of the emission duration on kaon emission. Three-dimensional Gaussian shape of the kaon source function can be adequately reproduced by Therminator simulations with resonance contributions taken into a…
Coalescence of minijet partons with the partons from the quark-gluon plasma formed in relativistic heavy ion collisions is suggested as the mechanism for production of hadrons with intermediate transverse momentum. The resulting enhanced antiproton and pion yields at intermediate transverse momentum gives a plausible explanation for the observed large antiproton to pion ratio. With further increasing momentum, the ratio is predicted to decrease and approach the small value given by independent fragmentations of minijet partons after their energy loss in the quark-gluon plasma.
We briefly review the existing psi(2S) data taken at RHIC, the Tevatron and the LHC. We systematically compare them with colour-singlet-model predictions as a function of the center-of-mass energy, of the quarkonium rapidity and of the quarkonium transverse momentum. The overall agreement is good except for large transverse momenta. This points at the existence of large NNLO corrections or points at colour-octet dominance.
Data from the Large Hadron Collider on elliptic flow correlations at low and high $p_T$ from Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02$~TeV are analyzed and interpreted in the framework of the HYDJET++ model. This model allows us to describe simultaneously the region of both low and high transverse momenta and, therefore, to reproduce the experimentally observed nontrivial centrality dependence of elliptic flow correlations. The origin of the correlations between low and high-$p_T$ flow components in peripheral lead-lead collisions is traced to correlations of particles in jets.
Jet energy loss, photon production and photon-hadron correlations are studied together at high transverse momentum in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC energies. The modification of hard jets traversing a hot and dense nuclear medium is evaluated by consistently taking into account induced gluon radiation and elastic collisions. The production of high transverse momentum photons in Au+Au collisions at RHIC is calculated by incorporating a complete set of photon-production channels. Comparison with experimental photon production and photon-hadron correlation data is performed, using a (…
We investigate the consequences of long range rapidity correlations in the Glasma. Particles produced locally in the transverse plane are correlated by approximately boost invariant flux tubes of longitudinal color electric and magnetic fields that are formed when two sheets of Colored Glass Condensate pass through one another, each acquiring a modified color charge density in the collision. We argue that such long range rapidity correlations persist during the evolution of the Quark Gluon Plasma formed later in the collision. When combined with transverse flow, these correlations reproduce ma…
We present a calculation of Pi, D and B mesons production at RHIC and LHC energies based upon the KKT model of gluon saturation. We discuss dependence of the nuclear modification factor on rapidity and transverse momentum.
We have demonstrated recently that RHIC heavy ion data concerning particle production at small and intermediate transverse momenta become very transparent, if one realizes that there are two sources of particles production: the corona -- due to the interactions of the peripheral nucleons of either nucleus, and the core -- representing the high density central zone. We extend our analysis to SPS heavy ion data. Again, we find that the nontrivial centrality dependence of particle production (being stronger than at RHIC) is simply due to an increasing corona contribution with decreasing centralit…
