In light of the recent data from BES collaboration for $χ_{c0}\to VV$, $PP$ and $SS$, and from CLEO-c for $ηη$, $η^\primeη^\prime$ and $ηη^\prime$, we present a detailed analysis of the decays of heavy quarkonia into light meson pairs such as $χ_{c0,2}\to VV$, $PP$ and $SS$ in a recently proposed parametrization scheme. An overall agreement with the data is achieved in $χ_{c0,2}\to VV$ and $PP$, while in $χ_{c0}\to SS$ we find that a possible existence of glueball-$q\bar{q}$ mixings is correlated with the OZI-rule violations, which can be further examined at CLEO-c and BESIII in $χ_{c0}\to SS$ measurement.
Encouraged by a recent observation of the B_c^+ -> B_s^0 + pi^+ decay by the LHCb collaboration we present the meson dominance predictions for other weak decays of the B_c^+ into B_s^0 or B^0 in the form of branching ratios to the observed decay.
We analyze strong decays of excited charmed and beauty mesons into a light vector meson, exploiting the effective field theory based on heavy quark (HQ) symmetries for heavy mesons, and on the hidden gauge symmetry to incorporate light vector mesons. HQ symmetries allow to classify the heavy mesons in spin doublets, and to relate decays of excited states. We build effective Lagrangian terms governing the ${\cal H}_i \to P^{(*)} V$ modes, with ${\cal H}_i$ an excited $s$, $p$, $d$ and $f$-wave heavy-light quark meson, $P,\,P^*$ the lowest-lying $J^P=(0^-,\,1^-)$ heavy-light mesons, and V a ligh…
We study whether light scalar meson nonet can survive in large values of Nc through observing how scattering amplitudes behave as Nc increases from 3 within a unitarized chiral approach. We obtain the result that vector mesons such as rho and K* survive as narrow width resonances, but all of the scalar meson nonet below 1 GeV fade out as Nc exceeds a rather small number about 6.
In this letter we study the photoproduction of scalar mesons in the intermediate energies considering distinct mixing scenarios in the description of meson physical states. The differential and integrated total cross section are computed for the cases of the mesons a_0(980), f_0(1500) and f_0(1710) focusing the GlueX energy regime with photon energy equal to 9 GeV. Our results indicate that light-quark scalar meson photoproduction is well suited for studying hybrid mesons structure.
We evaluate the decay branching ratios of $χ_{c1}\to PS$, in a quark model parametrization scheme, where $P$ and $S$ stand for pseudoscalar and scalar meson, respectively. An interesting feature of this decay process is that the $c\bar{c}$ annihilate via the pQCD hair-pin diagram is supposed to be dominant. Hence, this decay process should be sensitive to the quark components of the final-state light mesons, and would provide a great opportunity for testing the mixing relations among the scalar mesons, i.e. $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1710)$, by tagging the final state pseudoscalar meson…
LHCb measurements of $B_{d,s} \to J/ψ+ X$ are shown to be consistent with historical data on scalar and axial mesons below 2 GeV. This is in contrast to some recent interpretations of these data. Further tests of our hypotheses in other $B_{u,d,s} \to J/ψ+ X$ decay modes are suggested.
In the SU(3) symmetry limit, semileptonic $D^+\to Sl^+ν$ and $B^-\to Sl^-\barν$ decays, with $S=a_0(980)$, $f_0(980)$ and $f_0(600)$, are found to obey different sum rules in the $\bar qq$ and the tetra-quark descriptions for scalar mesons. Thus these sum rules can distinguish the two scenarios for light scalar mesons model-independently. This method also applies to the $\bar B^0\to J/ψ(η_c) S$ decays. Two kinds of SU(3) symmetry breaking effects are found to be under control, which will not spoil our method. The branching fractions of the $D^+\to Sl^+ν$, $B^-\to Sl^-\barν$ and $\bar B^0\to J/…
The complementarity between Chiral Perturbation Theory and the Linear Sigma Model is exploited to study scalar meson exchange in V->P0P0gamma decays. The recently reported experimental data on phi->pi0pi0gamma, phi->pi0etagamma and rho->pi0pi0gamma can be satisfactorily accommodated in our framework.
In the SU(3) symmetry limit, the ratio $R\equiv\frac{{\cal B}(D^+\to f_0l^+ν)+ {\cal B}(D^+\to σl^+ν)}{{\cal B}(D^+\to a_0^0l^+ν)}$ is equal to 1 if the scalar mesons are $\bar qq$ states, while it is 3 if these mesons are tentraquark states. This ratio provides a model-independent way to distinguish the descriptions for light scalar mesons . It also applies to the $B^-\to Sl^-\barν$ and $\bar B^0\to J/ψ(η_c) S$ decays. The SU(3) symmetry breaking effect is found to be under control, which will not spoil our method. The branching fractions of the $D^+\to S l^+ν$, $B^-\to S l^-\barν$ and $\bar …
The lightest charmed scalar meson is known as the $D_0^*(2300)$, which is one of the earliest new hadron resonances observed at modern $B$ factories. We show here that the parameters assigned to the lightest scalar $D$-meson are in conflict with the precise LHCb data of the decay $B^-\to D^+ π^- π^-$. On the contrary, these data can be well described by an unitarized chiral amplitude containing a much lighter charmed scalar meson, the $D_0^*(2100)$. We also extract the low-energy $S$-wave $Dπ$ phase of the decay $B^-\to D^+ π^- π^-$ from the data in a model-independent way, and show that its d…
The crucial points of physics of light scalar mesons are discussed. The special attention is given to the chiral shielding of lightest scalar mesons and the production of the well established light scalar mesons in the ϕradiative decays. Arguments in favor of the four-quark model of the a0(980) and f0(980) mesons are given.
The following topics are considered. 1. Confinement, chiral dynamics and light scalar mesons. 2. $ϕ$-meson radiative decays about nature of light scalar resonances. Arguments in favor of the four-quark model of the $a_0(980)$ and $f_0(980)$ mesons are given.
The structure of the scalar mesons has been a subject of debate for many decades. In this work we look for $\bar{q}q$ states among the physical resonances using an extended Linear Sigma Model that contains scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons both in the non-strange and strange sectors. We perform global fits of meson masses, decay widths and amplitudes in order to ascertain whether the scalar $\bar{q}q$ states are below or above 1 GeV. We find the scalar states above 1 GeV to be preferred as $\bar{q}q$ states.
For the first time, as far as we know, in field theory are found explicit forms of propagators satisfying the Källen -- Lehmann representation. To be exact, it is shown that scalar meson propagators, taking into account a virtual intermediate state contribution to the resonance self-energy, satisfy the Källen -- Lehmann representation in the wide domain of coupling constants of the light scalar mesons with the two-particle states. It is proposed to use these propagators in routine fitting data about light scalar mesons to reveal physics underlying the light scalar mesons.
Following the re-establishment of the σ(600) and the κ(900), the light scalar mesons a_0(980) and f_0(980) together with the σ(600) and the κ(900) are considered as the chiral scalar partner of pseudoscalar nonet in SU(3) chiral symmetry, and the high mass scalar mesons a_0(1450), K^*_0(1430), f_0(1370) and f_0(1710) turned out to be considered as the L=1 q\bar{q} scalar mesons. We assume that the high mass of the L=1 q\bar{q} scalar mesons is caused by the mixing with the light scalar mesons. For the structure of the light scalar mesons, we adopted the qq\bar{q}\bar{q} model in order to expla…
Charmed scalar mesons are studied. By assigning the newly observed charmed strange meson with a narrow width to one of the iso-triplet four-quark mesons, decays of the multiplet members are investigated and, as the consequence, existence of additional narrow scalar mesons is predicted. Decays of the ordinary charmed scalar mesons are also studied. In addition, it is demonstrated that four-quark mesons can play an important role in hadronic weak decays of charm mesons.
We analyze the mass spectroscopy of low and high mass scalar mesons and get the result that the coupling strengths of the mixing between low and high mass scalar mesons are very strong and the strengths of mixing for $I=1, 1/2$ scalar mesons and those of I=0 scalar mesons are almost same. Next, we analyze the decay widths and decay ratios of these mesons and get the results that the coupling constants $A'$ for $I=1, 1/2$ which represents the coupling of high mass scalar meson $N'$ -> two pseudoscalar mesons $PP$ are almost same as the coupling $A'$ for the I=0. On the other hand, the coupling …
Decays of hidden-charm scalar tetra-quark mesons as the partners of D_{s0}(2317) which has successfully been assigned to the iso-triplet scalar tetra-quark [c,n][sbar,nbar]_{I=1} meson are studied. Because OZI-rule allowed strong decays are kinematically limited, their radiative decays are expected to be important.
We propose that there coexist two scalar mesons of different structures (a conventional meson and a four-quark meson) in the recently observed broad bumps just below the large peak of the tensor meson in the D-pi mass distribution. We base this proposal on the interpretation of the charm-strange scalar meson of mass 2317 MeV as a four-quark meson. The strange counterparts of these scalar mesons are also studied.
This paper has been temporarily withdrawn by the author. A modified version will be resubmitted. One of the trivial solutions was missed with crucial bearing on conclusions.
In the covariant level-classification scheme of hadrons proposed recently, the existence of "chiral particles", scalar and axial-vector mesons as the partners of the ground-state pseudo-scalar and vector mesons, respectively, were predicted in the D meson and B meson systems, realizing a linear representation of chiral symmetry. In this work we reanalyze the B0 pi mass spectra through Z0 decays to show a possibility for the scalar B_0chi.
Despite the apparent simplicity of meson spectroscopy, light scalar mesons cannot be accommodated in the usual $q\bar q$ structure. We study the description of the scalar mesons below 2 GeV in terms of the mixing of a chiral nonet of tetraquarks with conventional $q\bar q$ states. A strong diquark-antidiquark component is found for several states. The consideration of a glueball as dictated by quenched lattice QCD drives a coherent picture of the isoscalar mesons.
Aspects of Scalar Meson Dominance in semi- and non-leptonic weak pseudoscalar meson decays are shortly discussed on the basis of the Quark-Level Linear Sigma Model.
Interactions in coupled channels pipi, KKbar and an effective 2pi2pi in scalar-isoscalar wave have been analysed. Influence of interchannel couplings on analytical structure of multichannel interaction amplitudes has been studied. Interplay of S-matrix zeroes and poles and their relation with parameters of scalar resonances has been investigated.
We investigate the finite-temperature spectral functions of heavy quarkonia by using the soft-wall AdS/QCD model. We discuss the scalar, the pseudo-scalar, the vector, and the axial-vector mesons and compare their qualitative features of the melting temperature and growing width. We find that the axial-vector meson melts earlier than the vector meson, while there appears only a slight difference between the scalar and pseudo-scalar mesons which also melt earlier than the vector meson.
We study the semileptonic decays of $D_{s}^{+}$, $D^{+}$, and $D^{0}$ mesons into the light scalar mesons [$f_{0} (500)$, $K_{0}^{\ast} (800)$, $f_{0} (980)$, and $a_{0}(980)$] and the light vector mesons [$ρ(770)$, $ω(782)$, $K^{\ast} (892)$, and $ϕ(1020)$]. With the help of a chiral unitarity approach in coupled channels, we compute the branching fractions for scalar meson processes of the semileptonic $D$ decays in a simple way. Using current known values of the branching fractions, we make predictions for the branching fractions of the semileptonic decay modes with other scalar and vector …
Non-exotic scalar-meson resonances in S-wave meson-meson scattering are studied in the light of a unitarised Schroedinger model. The resulting poles in the scattering matrices, by analytical continuation into the complex-energy plane, are grouped into nonets of isoscalar, isodoublet, and isotriplet resonances. All singularities can be related to quark-antiquark confinement states, the light-quark nonet of which has ground states at 1.3 to 1.4 GeV and level spacings of some 300-400 MeV, except for a nonet of light scalar mesons below 1 GeV. All non-exotic S-wave resonances reported by experimen…
We study, within an approximate Inverse Amplitude Method to unitarize Chiral Perturbation Theory, whether low mass scalar mesons can survive in large N_c regime, and show that vector mesons such as ρand K^* survive as narrow width resonances, but all of the scalar meson nonet below 1GeV fade out as N_c becomes large.
Some issues on the low-mass scalar mesons are discussed in relation to the chiral transition of QCD vacuum. The importance to explore the possible collective nature of the $σ$ meson is emphasized in association with the chiral properties of nuclear media.
The cross sections of the scalar meson $f_0(980)$, $a_0(980)$ and $σ(600)$ production in collision of electron and positron beams were calculated. The two-photon decays of the scalar mesons, obtained in the framework of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, were used. The quark and meson loops were taken into account.
We analyze the process $\vec γ+p\to ρ^0 π^{+}n$ at low momentum transfer focusing on a possibility of production of an exotic $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$ meson state. In particular we discuss polarization observables and conclude that linear photon polarization is instrumental for separating of the exotic wave.
By the application of a linear mass spectrum to a composite system of both the pseudoscalar and scalar meson nonets, we find three mass relations for the masses of the scalar states which suggest the $q\bar{q}$ assignment for the scalar meson nonet: $a_0(1320),$ $K_0^\ast (1430),$ $f_0(1500),$ $f_0'(980).$
We calculate the mass spectra of the pseudoscalar and scalar meson nonets in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with the 't Hooft interaction. We obtain satisfactory result for the pseudoscalar mesons. For the scalar mesons, the 't Hooft interaction somewhat increases the values of the masses. However, it is not sufficient to explain the whole scalar mass spectrum. The situation could be improved for the $σ$ and $f_0$ mesons through mixing with the glueball state. For the description of the masses of $a_0$ and $\kstar$ mesons, it is necessary to involve the other models. The strong decay widths of …
The following topics are considered. 1) Confinement, chiral dynamics, and light scalar mesons. 2) Chiral shielding of the σ(600) 3)The ϕmeson radiative decays about nature of light scalar resonances. 4) The J/ψdecays about nature of light scalar resonances. 5) The a0(980)\toγγand f0(980)\toγγdecays about nature of light scalar resonances. 6) New round in γγ\toπ^+π^-, the Belle data. 7) The a0(980)-f0(980) mixing: theory and experiment. Arguments in favor of the four-quark model of the a0(980) and f0(980) mesons are given.
We use a toy model to discuss the problem of parameterizing the possible contribution of a light scalar meson, sigma, to the final state interactions in the non leptonic decays of heavy mesons.
We present flavour-symmetric couplings for the OZI-allowed three-meson vertices of effective meson theories, which for the case of the two-meson channels to which the flavour-singlet scalar meson couples, are endowed with a correction factor with respect to the standard formula.
If the exotic baryon $Θ^+(1540)$ is a correlated $udud\bar{s}$ with $J^P = {1/2}^+$, then there should exist an exotic meson, $J^P = 1^-$ $\vartheta^+ (S=+2)$ $\to K^+K^0$ $\sim 1.6$GeV with width $O(10-100)$MeV. The $π_1(1400;1600)$ may be broad members of {\bf 10} $\pm$ \10bar in such a picture. Vector mesons in the 1.4 - 1.7GeV mass range are also compared with this picture.
We examine the interpretation of the light scalar meson nonet as bound states of the scalar diquark and the scalar antidiquark using the QCD sum rule approach. Our results are obtained by means of the operator product expansion (OPE) including operators up to dimension 8. They show no evidence of the coupling of the tetraquark states to the light scalar meson nonet.
New solutions on the scalar -- isoscalar $ππ$ phase shifts are analysed together with previous $K\bar{K}$ results using a separable potential model of three coupled channels ($ππ$, $K\bar{K}$ and an effective $2π2π$ system). Model parameters are fitted to two sets of solutions obtained in a recent analysis of the CERN-Cracow-Munich measurements of the $π^- p_{\uparrow} \to π^+ π^- n$ reaction on a polarized target. A relatively narrow (90 -- 180 MeV) scalar resonance $f_0(1400-1460)$ is found, in contrast to a much broader ($Γ\approx 500$ MeV) state emerging from the analysis of previous unpol…
First radial excitations of the scalar meson nonet and pseudoscalar mesons η, η' are described in a nonlocal chiral quark model of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio type with 't Hooft interaction. In this model simple form factors are used, which allows us to describe first radial excitations of the mesons and to conserve the gap equations describing spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry in the standard form. The external parameters of form factors are fixed by masses of excited pseudoscalar mesons and the same form factors are used for predicting the masses of excited scalar mesons. Strong decays of …
In the framework of the local Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model the radiative decay widths of the scalar mesons $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ into $ργ$ and $ωγ$ are calculated. The contributions of the quark loops and the meson loops are taken into account. For the radiative decays of the scalar meson $f_0(980)$ the contribution of the meson loops plays the dominant role. On the other side for the radiative decays of the scalar meson $a_0(980)$ the main contribution is given by the quark loops.
We discuss the recent experimental observation which suggested that the mass difference between the scalar and pseudoscalar heavy-light mesons is larger for the non-strange states than for the strange ones. After computing the chiral corrections in the heavy quark limit we show that, contrary to experiment, the mass difference in the non-strange case should be smaller.
Making use of numerous resonances discovered by the Crystal Barrel Collaboration we discuss some possible relations between the baryon and meson spectra of resonances composed of the light non-strange quarks. Our goal is to indicate new features that should be reproduced by the realistic dynamical models describing the hadron spectrum in the sector of light quarks.
The Nijmegen Unitarized Meson Model and its application to scalar mesons is briefly revisited. It is shown that all scalar states up to 1.5 GeV can be described as triplet-P-zero quark+antiquark states coupled to the OZI-allowed open and closed two-meson channels consisting of pseudoscalar and vector mesons. Crucial are the manifestation of a resonance-doubling phenomenon, typical for strong S-wave decay, and the employment of truly flavor-symmetric coupling constants. Also S-wave meson-meson scattering is thus reasonably well described, without any parameter fit.
We discuss the effect of the instanton induced, six-fermion effective Lagrangian on the decays of the lightest scalar mesons in the diquark--antidiquark picture. This addition allows for a remarkably good description of light scalar meson decays. The same effective Lagrangian produces a mixing of the lightest scalars with the positive parity q-qbar states. Comparing with previous work where the q-qbar mesons are identified with the nonet at 1200-1700 MeV, we find that the mixing required to fit the mass spectrum is in good agreement with the instanton coupling obtained from light scalar decays…
Corrections to $K_{L}^{0}\rightarrow π^{0} γγ$ decay induced by scalar meson exchange are studied within chiral perturbation theory. In spite of bad knowledge of scalar-mesons parameters, the calculated branching ratio can be changed by a few percent.
In a U(3)x U(3) quark chiral model of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio type with the 't Hooft interaction, the ground scalar isoscalar mesons and a scalar glueball are described. The glueball (dilaton) is introduced into the effective meson Lagrangian written in a chirally symmetric form on the base of scale invariance. The singlet-octet mixing of scalar isoscalar mesons and their mixing with the glueball are taken into account. Mass spectra of the scalar mesons and glueball and their strong decays are described.
We describe a four-parameter model for non-exotic meson-meson scattering, which accommodates all non-exotic mesons, hence also the light scalar mesons, as resonances and bound states characterised by complex singularities of the scattering amplitude as a function of the total invariant mass. The majority of the full $S$-matrix mesonic poles stem from an underlying confinement spectrum. However, the light scalar mesons K0*(830), a0(980), f0(400-1200), and f0(980) do not, but instead originate in 3P0-barrier semi-bound states. In the case of bound states, wave functions can be determined. For cc…
We study the effect of scalar-isoscalar $f_{0}(980)$ meson in the mechanism of the radiative $ϕ\to π^{+}π^{-}γ$ decay. A phenomenological approach is used to study this decay by considering the contributions of $σ$-meson, $ρ$-meson and $f_{0}(980)$-meson. The interference effects between different contributions are analyzed and the branching ratio for this decay is calculated. We observe that $f_0$ meson contribution is much larger than the contributions of the other terms.
Scalar form factor of the nucleon is calculated in the framework of light cone QCD sum rules, using the most general form of the baryon current. Using the result on scalar form factor of the nucleon, the nucleon-scalar "sigma" and "a_0" meson coupling constants are estimated. Our results on these couplings are in good agreement with the prediction of the external field QCD sum rules method.
We discuss a calculation of large-Nc masses of light scalar mesons from the QCD sum rules. Two methods based on the use of linear radial Regge trajectories are presented. We put a special emphasis on the appearance of pole near 0.5 GeV in the scalar isoscalar channel which emerges in both methods and presumably corresponds to the scalar sigma-meson.
We study the effects of light scalar mesons on the skyrmion properties by constructing and examining a mesonic model including pion, rho meson, and omega meson fields as well as two-quark and four-quark scalar meson fields. In our model, the physical scalar mesons are defined as mixing states of the two- and four-quark fields. We first omit the four-quark scalar meson field from the model and find that when there is no direct coupling between the two-quark scalar meson and the vector mesons, the soliton mass is smaller and the soliton size is larger for lighter scalar mesons; when direct coupl…
We present the formalism for the decay of dynamically generated scalar mesons with open- or hidden-charm and give results for the decay of D^*_{s0} (2317) to γD_s^* plus that of a hidden charm scalar meson state predicted by the theory around 3700 MeV decaying into γJ/ψ.
Based on gauge invariance, we show that the new threshold phenomenon is discovered in the ϕradiative decays ϕ\toγa0\toγ\pi0ηand ϕ\toγf0\toγ\pi0\pi0. This enables to conclude that production of the lightest scalar mesons a0(980) and f0(980) in these decays is caused by the four-quark transitions, resulting in strong restrictions on the large Nc expansions of the decay amplitudes. The analysis shows that these constraints give new evidences in favor of the four-quark nature of a0(980) and f0(980) mesons.
Semileptonic decays of D-mesons into scalar hadronic states are investigated. Two extreme cases are considered: a) the meson decays directly into an uncorrelated scalar state of two two mesons and b) the decay proceeds via resonance formation. QCD sum rules including instanton contributions are used to calculate total and differential decay rates under the two assumptions.
The scalar mesons f0(1370), f0(1500) and f0(1710) are of interest as there is as yet no consensus of their status, or indeed of the existence of the f0(1370). Radiative decays to rho and omega have been shown to provide effective probes of their structure and to discriminate among models. Scalar-meson photoproduction is proposed as an alternative and it is shown that it represents a feasible approach.
We study the strong and electromagnetic decay properties of scalar mesons above 1 GeV within a chiral approach. The scalar-isoscalar states are treated as mixed states of quarkonia and glueball configurations. A fit to the experimental decay rates listed by the Particle Data group is performed to extract phenomenological constraints on the nature of the scalar resonances. A comparison to other theoretical approaches in the scalar meson sector is discussed.
Local scale invariant theory leads to the existence of a new particle called the Weyl vector meson. We study a generalized Standard Model, which displays local scale invariance. The model contains a real scalar field, besides the Higgs multiplet and coupling between the Higgs and Weyl meson. For certain range of coupling parameters, the Weyl-Higgs coupling leads to interesting phenomenon in particle colliders as well as in cosmology. Here we study the signature of the Weyl meson in particle colliders and determine the range of coupling parameters for which it can solve the dark matter problem.
