We discuss the effect of the instanton induced, six-fermion effective Lagrangian on the decays of the lightest scalar mesons in the diquark--antidiquark picture. This addition allows for a remarkably good description of light scalar meson decays. The same effective Lagrangian produces a mixing of the lightest scalars with the positive parity q-qbar states. Comparing with previous work where the q-qbar mesons are identified with the nonet at 1200-1700 MeV, we find that the mixing required to fit the mass spectrum is in good agreement with the instanton coupling obtained from light scalar decays. A coherent picture of scalar mesons as a mixture of tetraquark states (dominating in the lightest mesons) and heavy q-qbar states (dominating in the heavier mesons) emerges.
We show that QCD contains stable four-quark QQ\qbar\qbar hadronic states in the limit where the heavy quark mass goes to infinity. (Here Q denotes a heavy quark, \qbar a light antiquark and the stability refers only to the strong interactions.) The long range binding potential is due to one pion exchange between ground state Q\qbar mesons, and is computed using chiral perturbation theory. For the Q=b, this long range potential may be sufficiently attractive to produce a weakly bound two meson state.
By assuming the existence of (quasi)-linear Regge trajectories for heavy mesons, we derive new quadratic mass relations of non-Gell-Mann-Okubo type, 6M^2(q-qbar)+3M^2(c-cbar)=8M^2(c-qbar), 20M^2(q-qbar)+5M^2(b-bbar)= 16M^2(b-qbar), q=n(=u,d),s, which show excellent agreement with experiment. We also establish the sum rule M^2(i-ibar)+M^2(j-jbar)-2M^2(j-ibar)\approx const for any pair of flavors, (i,j).
We investigate how coupling of valence q qbar to meson pairs can modify the properties of conventional q qbar and hybrid mesons. In a symmetry limit the mixing between hybrids and conventional q qbar with the same J^PC is shown to vanish. Flavor mixing between heavy and light q qbar due to meson loops is shown to be dual to the results of gluon mediated pQCD, and qualitatively different from mixing involving light flavors alone. The validity of the OZI rule for conventional q qbar and hybrid mesons is discussed.
The light-quark non-strange scalar mesons a0(980), f0(980), f0(1370), a0(1450), f0(1500) and f0(1710) are of great interest as there is no generally accepted view of their structure which can encompass q-q-qbar-qbar, molecular, q-qbar and glueball states in various combinations. It has been shown previously that the radiative decays of the scalar mesons to rho and omega are a good probe of their structure and provide good discrimination among models. Scalar meson photoproduction is proposed as an alternative to measuring radiative decays and it is shown that it is a feasible proposition.
We consider the NJL model as an effective quark theory to describe the interaction which is responsible for the quark flavor dynamics at intermediate energies. In addition to the usual ultraviolet cut-off which is necessary since the model is non-renormalizable, we also introduce an infrared cut-off which drops off the unknown confinement part of the quark interaction, which is believed to be less important for the flavor dynamics. The infrared cut-off eliminates all q-qbar thresholds, which plague the application of the usual NJL model beyond low-energy pion physics. We apply this two-cut-off…
I describe some insight obtained from a lattice calculation on the possibility that the light scalar mesons are \qbar^2 q^2 states rather than \qbar q. First I review some general features of \qbar^2 q^2 states in QCD inspired quark models. Then I describe a lattice QCD calculation of pseudoscalar meson scattering amplitudes, ignoring quark loops and quark annihilation, which finds indications that for sufficiently heavy quarks there is a stable four-quark bound state with JPC=0{++} and non-exotic flavor quantum numbers.
It is proposed that meson resonances are linear combinations of q-qbar and meson-meson (MM); baryon resonances are combinations of qqq and meson-baryon (MB). Mixing between these combinations arises via decays of confined states to meson-meson or meson-baryon. There is a precise analogy with the covalent bond in molecular physics; it helps to visualise what is happening physically. One eigenstate is lowered by the mixing; the other moves up and normally increases in width. Cusps arise at thresholds. At sharp thresholds due to S-wave 2-particle decays, these cusps play a conspicuous role in man…
The Coulomb gauge model, involving an effective QCD Hamiltonian in the Coulomb gauge, is applied to scalar hadrons. Mass predictions are presented for both conventional q-qbar meson and q-qbar-q-qbar tetra-quark states. Mixing matrix elements between these states were also computed and diagonalized to provide a reasonable description of the scalar spectrum below 2 GeV.
One-loop unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory (UChPT) calculations, suggest a different Nc behaviour for the sigma or f_0(600) and rho(770) mesons: while the rho meson becomes narrower with Nc, as is expected for a q-qbar meson, the sigma becomes broader, and its contribution to the total cross section is less and less important. On the other hand, local duality requires a cancellation between the sigma and rho amplitudes, but if there is a different Nc behaviour for them, there is a possible contradiction between the Inverse Amplitude Method (IAM) and local duality for large Nc. However, nex…
The structure of the light scalar mesons is elucidated by the investigation of the S-matrix poles and the q-qbar spectral density in a coupled channel model that includes pi-pi, K-Kbar and q-qbar channels. It is shown that the dynamical origin of the sigma and f0(980) mesons is consistent with the observed spectrum of the scalar states. The K-Kbar molecular picture of the f0(980) is in good agreement with recent experimental data on the decay phi - gamma pi pi from Novosibirsk.
Highlights in the search for nonconventional (non qqbar) meson states are the pi_1(1400) and pi_1(1600) exotic candidates. Should they exist, mounting theoretical arguments suggest that they are tetraquark molecular resonances excitable by meson rescattering. We report a new tetraquark calculation within a model field theory approximation to Quantum Chromodynamics in the Coulomb gauge supporting this conjecture. We also strengthen this claim by consistently contrasting results with exotic state predictions for hybrid (q qbar g) mesons within the same theoretical framework. Our findings confirm…
We study the possibility that the light scalar mesons are (qbar qbar q q) states rather than (qbar q). We perform a lattice QCD calculation of pseudoscalar meson scattering amplitudes, ignoring quark loops and quark annihilation, and find indications that for sufficiently heavy quarks there is a stable four-quark bound state with J^{PC}=0^{++} and non-exotic flavor quantum numbers.
We investigate the mass spectrum of 1^{+} exotic mesons with quark content (\c\s\cbar\qbar) or (\c\q\cbar\sbar), using molecular and diquark-antidiquark operators, in quenched lattice QCD with exact chiral symmetry. For the molecular operator {(\qbarγ_i\c)(\cbarγ_5\s)-(\cbarγ_i\s)(\qbarγ_5\c)} and the diquark-antidiquark operator {(\q^T C γ_i \c)(\sbar C γ_5 \cbar^T)- (\q^T C γ_5 \c)(\sbar C γ_i^T \cbar^T)}, both detect a 1^{+} resonance with mass around 4010 +- 50 MeV in the limit m_q -> m_{u,d}.
Based on the observation that K_0(1430) is lighter than its SU_3 counterpart, a_0(1450), we examine the possibility that these particles, together with f_0(1370), f_0(1500) and f_0(1710), fill a tetraquark recurrence of the sub-GeV 0^{++} nonet mixed with a glueball state. We find the picture to be consistent with the known data about the three f_0 resonances, more than the q-qbar hypothesis. Conventional spin-orbit coupling suggests the q-qbar, P-wave, nonet to lie around 1200 MeV. We review possible experimental indications of a scalar isovector resonance at 1.29 GeV, first observed by OBELI…
We explore molecular states of two open heavy-quark mesons (Q qbar)-(qbar Q) in a quark-based model in terms of a four-body non-relativistic Hamiltonian with pairwise effective interactions. Molecular states are found in the combinations of {D, D*, B, B*} with {Dbar, Dbar*, Bbar, Bbar*}, including a weakly-bound D-Dbar* state near the threshold which may be qualitatively identified as the 3872 state observed recently by the Belle Collaboration.
We investigate the 2-point correlation function for the vector current. The gluons provide dressings for both the quark self energy as well as the vector vertex function, which are described consistently by the rainbow Dyson-Schwinger equation and the inhomogeneous ladder Bethe-Salpeter equation. The form of the gluon propagator at low momenta is modeled by a 2-parameter ansatz fitting the weak pion decay constant. The quarks are confined in the sense that the quark propagator does not have a pole at timelike momenta. We determine the ground state mass in the vector channel from the Euclidean …
A menage a trois is very different from an ordinary family. Similarly, exotic hadrons with both qq and qbar q pairs have important color-space correlations that are completely absent in ordinary mesons and baryons. The presence of both types of pairs requires attention to the basic QCD physics that the q qbar interaction is much stronger than the qq interaction. This new physics in multiquark systems produces color structures totally different from those of normal hadrons, for example the ud system is utterly unlike the ud diquark in the uds Lambda baryon. The color-space correlations produce …
We discuss the classification of the light scalar mesons with mass below 2 GeV into q qbar nonets and glueballs. The information on production and decay of these states, in particular recent information on f_0(980), f_0(400-1200) (or sigma(600)) and f_0(1500) is considered. Although the data are not yet very precise the recent information is in favour of the previously developed scheme which includes f_0(980), a_0(980), K_0^*(1430), f_0(1500) into the lightest scalar nonet. The glueball in this approach appears as broad object around 1 GeV. Alternative schemes find the glueball at somewhat hig…
An outstanding mystery of charmonium physics is why the J/ψdecays prominently to pseudoscalar plus vector meson channels, such as J/ψ-> ρπand J/ψ-> K^*K, whereas the ψ'(2S) does not. We show that such decays of J/ψand their suppression for ψ'(2S) follow naturally from the existence of intrinsic charm |qbar q cbar c> Fock components of the light vector mesons.
We investigate the mass spectrum of $ 1^{++} $ exotic mesons with quark content $ (\c\q\cbar\qbar) $, using molecular and diquark-antidiquark operators, in quenched lattice QCD with exact chiral symmetry. For the molecular operator $ \{(\qbarγ_i\c)(\cbarγ_5\q)- (\cbarγ_i\q)(\qbarγ_5\c) \} $ and the diquark-antidiquark operator $ \{(\q^T C \gi \c)(\qbar C γ_5 \cbar^T)-(\qbar C \gi^T \cbar^T)(\q^T C γ_5 \c) \} $, both detect a resonance with mass around $ 3890 \pm 30 $ MeV in the limit $ m_q \to m_u $, which is naturally identified with $ X(3872) $. Further, heavier exotic meson resonance with $…
Non-leptonic D meson decays may provide a reliable testbed for the multiquark interpretation of light scalar mesons. In this letter we consider D_s decay and show that a 4-quark f_0(980) meson could induce a decay pattern, which is forbidden for a q-qbar constituent structure. Experimental tests to probe such possibilities are within reach in the near future.
The mixing between q-qbar meson and qqbar-qqbar tetra-quark states is examined within an effective QCD Coulomb gauge Hamiltonian model. Mixing matrix elements of the Hamiltonian are computed and then diagonalized yielding an improved prediction for the low-lying J^{PC} = 0^{+/- +}, 1^{--} isoscalar spectra. Mixing effects were found significant for the scalar hadrons but not for the 1^{--} states, which is consistent with the ideal mixing of vector mesons. A perturbative assessment of the exact QCD kernel is also reported.
Dispersive approaches provide model independent description of meson-meson scattering. We first review here the use of dispersion relations to obtain a model independent unitarization of Chiral Perturbation Theory amplitudes, that establish the existence of light scalar mesons and whose leading 1/N_c behavior suggest they ahve a non q-qbar dominant component. We also review the forward dispersion relation checks on conflicting experimental data and the resulting very precise pion-pion scattering scattering amplitudes.
By using unitarized two-loop Chiral Perturbation Theory partial waves to describe pion-pion scattering we find that the dominant component of the lightest scalar meson does not follow the q-qbar dependence on the number of colors that, in contrast, is obeyed by the lightest vectors. The method suggests that a subdominant q-qbar component of the f_0(600) possibly originates around 1 GeV.
We consider the solution of the Bethe-Salpeter equation in Euclidean metric for a qbar-q vector meson in the circumstance where the dressed quark propagators have time-like complex conjugate mass poles. This approximates features encountered in recent QCD modeling via the Dyson-Schwinger equations; the absence of real mass poles simulates quark confinement. The analytic continuation in the total momentum necessary to reach the mass shell for a meson sufficiently heavier than 1 GeV leads to the quark poles being within the integration domain for two variables in the standard approach. Through F…
By scaling the parameters of meson-meson unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory amplitudes according to the QCD large N_c rules, one can study the spectroscopic nature of light meson resonances. The scalars sigma, kappa f_0(980) and, possibly, the a_0(980) do not seem to behave as q-qbar states, in contrast to the vectors rho(770) and K*(892). The behavior shown by the scalars is naturally explained in terms of diagrams with intermediate $\bar q\bar q qq$-like states. Here we review our recent study and show how the results do not depend on the different fits to data.
Light scalar mesons are found to fit rather well a diquark-antidiquark description. The resulting nonet obeys mass formulae which respect, to a good extent, the OZI rule. OZI allowed strong decays are reasonably reproduced by a single amplitude describing the switch of a qbar-q pair, which transforms the state into two colourless pseudoscalar mesons. Predicted heavy states with one or more quarks replaced by charm or beauty are briefly described; they should give rise to narrow states with exotic quantum numbers.
In our phenomenological analysis of the spectroscopy of light scalar mesons we do not find compelling evidence for the existence of the low mass κ(900) or σ(600) states nor for f_0(1370) as single resonance. If the f_0(980) and and f_0(1500) are taken as members of the q qbar nonet there remains a broad object formed by f_0(400-1200) and f_0(1370) which is a glueball candidate gb(1000).
In the light scalar meson sector (M < 1.8 GeV) one expects at least one q qbar nonet and a glueball, possibly also multi-quark states. We discuss the present phenomenological evidence for sigma and kappa particles; if real, they could be members of the lightest (quark or multi-quark) nonet together possibly with a_0(980) and f_0(980). Alternatively, the lightest nonet could include f_0(980) but not sigma and kappa. Future decisive experimental studies, concerning tests of symmetry relations, especially in B-decays, are outlined.
Because quarks in hadronic states are subjected to strong QCD forces, it is not straight-forward to apply calculation obtained at the quark level to physical processes involving hadrons. In this paper we present a new approach to treat the semileptonic decays of pseudoscalar mesons. At the quark level, the process is straightforward. However, when we fold the quark-level process to the meson decay process, the complication from QCD effects come in. We make the fundamental assumption that the vertex of type M-q-qbar can be approximated by an effective constant gamma-5 coupling. With this assump…
The essential points and physical backgrounds of the covariant level-classification scheme, based on U(12)SF * O(3,1)L, are reviewed: This scheme is extended from the non-relativistic SU(6)SF * O(3)L scheme by introducing the new SU(2)-spin (rho-spin) degree of freedom, which is necessary for covariant description of composite hadrons. Our scheme predicts the existence of new type of chiral mesons and baryons (Chiralons) out of the conventional SU(6)SF * O(3)L scheme. The sigma nonet is a typical example of chiralons to be assigned to the q qbar relativistic S-wave state. The new narrow mesons…
Pole trajectories connecting light and heavy scalar mesons, both broad resonances and quasi-bound states, are computed employing a simple coupled-channel model. Instead of varying the coupling constant as in previous work, quark and meson masses are continuously changed, so as to have one scalar meson evolve smoothly into another with different flavor(s). In particular, it is shown, among several other cases, how the still controversial K0*(800) turns into the established chi_c0, via the disputed D_s(2317). Moreover, a chi'_c0(3946) is predicted, which may correspond to the recently observed Y…
We discuss how the lightest scalars, in particular the broad sigma resonance, can be understood as unitarized (qbar q) states within a unitarized quark model (UQM). The bare (qbar q) scalars are strongly distorted by hadronic mass shifts, and the (ubar u+ dbar d) state becomes a very broad resonance, with its pole at 470-i250 MeV. This is the sigma meson required by models for spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry. We also discuss the less well known phenomenon that with a large coupling there can appear two physical resonance poles on the second sheet although only one bare quark-antiquark …
The known ratio of the branching fractions for D_s^* --> D_s pi^0 and D_s^* --> D_s gamma may be used to extract the coupling of eta mesons to strange quarks once the value of the pi^0-eta mixing angle is known. This requires that realistic models for the spectra as well as the magnetic dipole (M1) decays of the heavy-light (Q qbar) mesons are available. The coupling of eta mesons to light quarks may then be estimated using SU(3) flavor symmetry. Applied to the quark model for the baryons, an eta NN pseudovector coupling constant of f_{eta NN} = 0.35^{+0.15}_{-0.25} is obtained. If the charm q…
The existence of hadrons containing gluons as constituent particles (like hybrid mesons) will involve the necessity to admit an hadronic spectroscopy beyond the naive quark model. In the QGC model, the lowest J^{PC}= 1^{-+} hybrid mesons may be built in two different modes: the GE-mode corresponding to an angular momentum between the gluon and qqbar system, while the QE-mode corresponding to an angular momentum between q and qbar. In this paper, we give an analysis of the possible 1^{-+} hybrid mesons in the 1.32-2.04 GeV mass range, and predictions on their decay. We discuss on the inconsiste…
Following the re-establishment of the σ(600) and the κ(900), the light scalar mesons a_0(980) and f_0(980) together with the σ(600) and the κ(900) are considered as the chiral scalar partner of pseudoscalar nonet in SU(3) chiral symmetry, and the high mass scalar mesons a_0(1450), K^*_0(1430), f_0(1370) and f_0(1710) turned out to be considered as the L=1 q\bar{q} scalar mesons. We assume that the high mass of the L=1 q\bar{q} scalar mesons is caused by the mixing with the light scalar mesons. For the structure of the light scalar mesons, we adopted the qq\bar{q}\bar{q} model in order to expla…
Charmed scalar mesons are studied. By assigning the newly observed charmed strange meson with a narrow width to one of the iso-triplet four-quark mesons, decays of the multiplet members are investigated and, as the consequence, existence of additional narrow scalar mesons is predicted. Decays of the ordinary charmed scalar mesons are also studied. In addition, it is demonstrated that four-quark mesons can play an important role in hadronic weak decays of charm mesons.
We analyze the mass spectroscopy of low and high mass scalar mesons and get the result that the coupling strengths of the mixing between low and high mass scalar mesons are very strong and the strengths of mixing for $I=1, 1/2$ scalar mesons and those of I=0 scalar mesons are almost same. Next, we analyze the decay widths and decay ratios of these mesons and get the results that the coupling constants $A'$ for $I=1, 1/2$ which represents the coupling of high mass scalar meson $N'$ -> two pseudoscalar mesons $PP$ are almost same as the coupling $A'$ for the I=0. On the other hand, the coupling …
Lattice calculations allow us to probe the low-lying, non-perturbative spectrum of QCD using first principles numerical methods. Here we present the low-lying spectrum in the scalar sector with vacuum quantum numbers including, in fully dynamical QCD for the first time, the mixing between glueball, q-qbar, and meson-meson operators.
We propose that there coexist two scalar mesons of different structures (a conventional meson and a four-quark meson) in the recently observed broad bumps just below the large peak of the tensor meson in the D-pi mass distribution. We base this proposal on the interpretation of the charm-strange scalar meson of mass 2317 MeV as a four-quark meson. The strange counterparts of these scalar mesons are also studied.
In the covariant level-classification scheme of hadrons proposed recently, the existence of "chiral particles", scalar and axial-vector mesons as the partners of the ground-state pseudo-scalar and vector mesons, respectively, were predicted in the D meson and B meson systems, realizing a linear representation of chiral symmetry. In this work we reanalyze the B0 pi mass spectra through Z0 decays to show a possibility for the scalar B_0chi.
Aspects of Scalar Meson Dominance in semi- and non-leptonic weak pseudoscalar meson decays are shortly discussed on the basis of the Quark-Level Linear Sigma Model.
Interactions in coupled channels pipi, KKbar and an effective 2pi2pi in scalar-isoscalar wave have been analysed. Influence of interchannel couplings on analytical structure of multichannel interaction amplitudes has been studied. Interplay of S-matrix zeroes and poles and their relation with parameters of scalar resonances has been investigated.
We investigate the finite-temperature spectral functions of heavy quarkonia by using the soft-wall AdS/QCD model. We discuss the scalar, the pseudo-scalar, the vector, and the axial-vector mesons and compare their qualitative features of the melting temperature and growing width. We find that the axial-vector meson melts earlier than the vector meson, while there appears only a slight difference between the scalar and pseudo-scalar mesons which also melt earlier than the vector meson.
Non-exotic scalar-meson resonances in S-wave meson-meson scattering are studied in the light of a unitarised Schroedinger model. The resulting poles in the scattering matrices, by analytical continuation into the complex-energy plane, are grouped into nonets of isoscalar, isodoublet, and isotriplet resonances. All singularities can be related to quark-antiquark confinement states, the light-quark nonet of which has ground states at 1.3 to 1.4 GeV and level spacings of some 300-400 MeV, except for a nonet of light scalar mesons below 1 GeV. All non-exotic S-wave resonances reported by experimen…
We study, within an approximate Inverse Amplitude Method to unitarize Chiral Perturbation Theory, whether low mass scalar mesons can survive in large N_c regime, and show that vector mesons such as ρand K^* survive as narrow width resonances, but all of the scalar meson nonet below 1GeV fade out as N_c becomes large.
Some issues on the low-mass scalar mesons are discussed in relation to the chiral transition of QCD vacuum. The importance to explore the possible collective nature of the $σ$ meson is emphasized in association with the chiral properties of nuclear media.
The cross sections of the scalar meson $f_0(980)$, $a_0(980)$ and $σ(600)$ production in collision of electron and positron beams were calculated. The two-photon decays of the scalar mesons, obtained in the framework of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, were used. The quark and meson loops were taken into account.
By the application of a linear mass spectrum to a composite system of both the pseudoscalar and scalar meson nonets, we find three mass relations for the masses of the scalar states which suggest the $q\bar{q}$ assignment for the scalar meson nonet: $a_0(1320),$ $K_0^\ast (1430),$ $f_0(1500),$ $f_0'(980).$
We calculate the mass spectra of the pseudoscalar and scalar meson nonets in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with the 't Hooft interaction. We obtain satisfactory result for the pseudoscalar mesons. For the scalar mesons, the 't Hooft interaction somewhat increases the values of the masses. However, it is not sufficient to explain the whole scalar mass spectrum. The situation could be improved for the $σ$ and $f_0$ mesons through mixing with the glueball state. For the description of the masses of $a_0$ and $\kstar$ mesons, it is necessary to involve the other models. The strong decay widths of …
We use a toy model to discuss the problem of parameterizing the possible contribution of a light scalar meson, sigma, to the final state interactions in the non leptonic decays of heavy mesons.
We present flavour-symmetric couplings for the OZI-allowed three-meson vertices of effective meson theories, which for the case of the two-meson channels to which the flavour-singlet scalar meson couples, are endowed with a correction factor with respect to the standard formula.
We examine the interpretation of the light scalar meson nonet as bound states of the scalar diquark and the scalar antidiquark using the QCD sum rule approach. Our results are obtained by means of the operator product expansion (OPE) including operators up to dimension 8. They show no evidence of the coupling of the tetraquark states to the light scalar meson nonet.
New solutions on the scalar -- isoscalar $ππ$ phase shifts are analysed together with previous $K\bar{K}$ results using a separable potential model of three coupled channels ($ππ$, $K\bar{K}$ and an effective $2π2π$ system). Model parameters are fitted to two sets of solutions obtained in a recent analysis of the CERN-Cracow-Munich measurements of the $π^- p_{\uparrow} \to π^+ π^- n$ reaction on a polarized target. A relatively narrow (90 -- 180 MeV) scalar resonance $f_0(1400-1460)$ is found, in contrast to a much broader ($Γ\approx 500$ MeV) state emerging from the analysis of previous unpol…
First radial excitations of the scalar meson nonet and pseudoscalar mesons η, η' are described in a nonlocal chiral quark model of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio type with 't Hooft interaction. In this model simple form factors are used, which allows us to describe first radial excitations of the mesons and to conserve the gap equations describing spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry in the standard form. The external parameters of form factors are fixed by masses of excited pseudoscalar mesons and the same form factors are used for predicting the masses of excited scalar mesons. Strong decays of …
In the framework of the local Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model the radiative decay widths of the scalar mesons $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ into $ργ$ and $ωγ$ are calculated. The contributions of the quark loops and the meson loops are taken into account. For the radiative decays of the scalar meson $f_0(980)$ the contribution of the meson loops plays the dominant role. On the other side for the radiative decays of the scalar meson $a_0(980)$ the main contribution is given by the quark loops.
The recent observations of f_0(980) in charmless B-decays motivate further studies of scalar particle and glueball production in these processes. Amplitudes for charmless 2-body B decays involving the members of the scalar nonet are presented based on the symmetries of the dominant penguin contribution. Different scenarios for the lightest scalar nonet are investigated in view of the presently available data. We describe the evidence from B-decays for f_0(1500) with a flavour octet like mixing and the hints towards the members of the q qbar nonet of lowest mass. There is further support for th…
The Nijmegen Unitarized Meson Model and its application to scalar mesons is briefly revisited. It is shown that all scalar states up to 1.5 GeV can be described as triplet-P-zero quark+antiquark states coupled to the OZI-allowed open and closed two-meson channels consisting of pseudoscalar and vector mesons. Crucial are the manifestation of a resonance-doubling phenomenon, typical for strong S-wave decay, and the employment of truly flavor-symmetric coupling constants. Also S-wave meson-meson scattering is thus reasonably well described, without any parameter fit.
