We use the cylindrical homomorphism and a geometric construction introduced by J. Lewis to study the Lawson homology groups of certain hypersurfaces $X\subset \mathbb{P}^{n+1}$ of degree $d\leq n+1$. Numerical data concerning the growth of torsion in the first homology of non-arithmetic hyperbolic tetrahedral groups are collected. The data provide support the speculations of Bergeron and Venkatesh on the growth of torsion homology and the regulators for lattices in SL(2,C).
We determine the integral homology of PSL4(Z) in degrees at most 5 and determine its p-part in higher degrees for the primes p>=5. In this paper we compute Lawson homology groups and semi-topological K-theory for some threefolds and fourfolds. We consider smooth complex projective varieties whose zero cycles are supported on a proper subvariety. Rationally connected varieties are examples of such varieties. The computation makes use of a technique of Bloch and Srinavas, of the Bloch-Kato conjecture and of the spectral sequence relating morphic cohomology and semi-topological K-theory.
We discuss several arithmetic aspects of Bianchi groups, especially from a computational point of view. In particular, we consider computing the homology of Bianchi groups together with the Hecke action, connections with automorphic forms, abelian varieties, Galois representations and the torsion in the homology of Bianchi groups. We formulate a "correct" version of the Quillen conjecture on linear group homology for certain arithmetic rings and provide evidence for the new conjecture. In this way we predict that the linear group homology has a direct summand looking like an unstable form of Milnor K-theory and we call this new theory "homological symbols algebra". We give methods to compute for a generalized (co-)homology theory its values on the Borel construction (EG x X)/G of a proper G-CW-complex X satisfying certain finiteness conditions.
