We obtain a general formula for the transition probabilities between any state of the algebra of the canonical commutation relations (CCR-algebra) and a squeezed quasifree state. Applications of this formula are made for the case of multimode thermal squeezed states of quantum optics using a general canonical decomposition of the correlation matrix valid for any quasifree state. In the particular case of a one mode CCR-algebra we show that the transition probability between two quasifree squeezed states is a decreasing function of the geodesic distance between the points of the upper half plane representing these states. In the special case of the purification map it is shown that the transition probability between the state of the enlarged system and the product state of real and fictitious subsystems can be a measure for the entanglement.
The evolution of the discrete Wigner function is formally similar to a probabilistic process, but the transition probabilities, like the discrete Wigner function itself, can be negative. We investigate these transition probabilities, as well as the transition rates for a continuous process, aiming particularly to give simple criteria for deciding when a set of such quantities corresponds to a legitimate quantum process. We also show how the transition rates for any Hamiltonian evolution can be worked out by expanding the Hamiltonian as a linear combination of displacement operators in the disc…
Max Born's statistical interpretation made probabilities play a major role in quantum theory. Here we show that these quantum probabilities and the classical probabilities have very different origins. While the latter always result from an assumed probability measure, the first include transition probabilities with a purely algebraic origin. Moreover, the general definition of transition probability introduced here comprises not only the well-known quantum mechanical transition probabilities between pure states or wave functions, but further physically meaningful and experimentally verifiable …
The typicality approach and the Hilbert space averaging method as its technical manifestation are important concepts of quantum statistical mechanics. Extensively used for expectation values we extend them in this paper to transition probabilities. In this context we also find that the transition probability of two random uniformly distributed states is connected to the spectral statistics of the considered operator. Furthermore, within our approach we are capable to consider distributions of matrix elements between states, that are not orthogonal. We will demonstrate our quite general result …
We present a new method implemented in our new package \textit{FitAik}, to perform least-squares fitting of calculated and experimental atomic transition probabilities, by using the mono-electronic transition integrals $\langle n\ell |r| n'\ell' \rangle$ (with $r$ the electronic radial coordinate) as adjustable quantities. \textit{FitAik} is interfaced to the Cowan suite of codes, for which it automatically writes input files and reads output files. We illustrate our procedure with the example of Er$^{+}$ ion, for which the agreement between calculated and experimental Einstein coefficients is…
We investigate the transition probabilities for the "flavor" eigenstates in the two-level quantum system, which is described by a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian with the parity and time-reversal (PT) symmetry. Particularly, we concentrate on the so-called PT-broken phase, where two eigenvalues of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian turn out to be a complex conjugate pair. In this case, we find that the transition probabilities will be unbounded in the limit of infinite time $t \to +\infty$. However, after performing a connection between a non-Hermitian system, which exhibits passive PT-symmetry and globa…
For a Landau-Zener transition in a two-level system, the probability for a particle, initially in the first level, to survive the transition and to remain in the first level, does not depend on whether or not the second level is broadened [V. M. Akulin and W. P. Schleicht, Phys. Rev. A {\bf 46}, 4110 (1992)]. In other words, the seminal Landau-Zener result applies regardless of the broadening of the second level. The same question for the multistate Landau-Zener transition is addressed in the present paper. While for integrable multistate models, where the transition does not involve interfere…
