Theoretical methods for empirical state determination of entangled two-level systems are analyzed in relation to information theory. We show that hidden variable theories would lead to a Shannon index of correlation between the entangled subsystems which is larger that that predicted by quantum mechanics. Canonical representations which have maximal correlations are treated by the use of Schmidt decomposition of the entangled states, including especially the Bohm singlet state and the GHZ entangled states. We show that quantum mechanics does not violate locality, but does violate realism.
The determination of genuine entanglement is a central problem in quantum information processing. We investigate the tripartite state as the tensor product of two bipartite entangled states by merging two systems. We show that the tripartite state is a genuinely entangled state when the range of both bipartite states are entanglement-breaking subspaces. We further investigate the tripartite state when one of the two bipartite states has rank two. Our results provide the latest progress on a conjecture proposed in the paper [Yi Shen $\textit{et al}$, J. Phys. A 53, 125302 (2020)]. We apply our …
As a result of a non-trivial mixing matrix, neutrinos cannot be simultaneously in a flavor and mass eigenstate. We formulate and discuss information entropic relations that quantify the associated quantum uncertainty. We also formulate a protocol to determine the Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) matrix from quantum manipulations and measurements on an entangled lepton-neutrino pair. The entangled state features neutrino oscillations in a conditional probability involving measurements on the lepton and the neutrino. They can be switched off by choosing a specific observable on the lepton …
In general, the state of a quantum system represented by density operator and its determination is a fundamental problem in quantum mechanics. A method of direct measurement of matrix element of density operator of a single two dimensional quantum system using weak measurement was theoretically proposed[Phys. Rev. Lett. 134, 070402(2012)] and experimentally demonstrated[Phys. Rev. Lett. 117, 120401(2016)] by Lundeen et al. Furthermore, recently the Guo-Guang Can et al.[Phys. Rev. Lett. 123, 150402(2019)] investigated the method of direct measurement of a nonlocal entangled quantum state. Howev…
Higher dimensional quantum systems (qudits) present a potentially more efficient means, compared to qubits, for implementing various information theoretic tasks. One of the ubiquitous resources in such explorations is entanglement. Entanglement Monotones (EMs) are of key importance, particularly for assessing the efficacy of a given entangled state as a resource for information theoretic tasks. Till date, investigations towards determination of EMs have focused on providing their tighter lower bounds. There is yet no general scheme available for direct determination of the EMs. Consequently, a…
Experimentally realizable quantum computers are rapidly approaching the threshold of quantum supremacy. Quantum Hamiltonian simulation promises to be one of the first practical applications for which such a device could demonstrate an advantage over all classical systems. However, these early devices will inevitably remain both noisy and small, precluding the use of quantum error correction. We use high-performance classical tools to construct, optimize, and simulate quantum circuits subject to realistic error models in order to empirically determine the "simulation capacity" of near-term simu…
We consider photonic arrays made from quantum emitters in optically coupled microcavities as a platform for entanglement generation. These offer a large degree of tunability with the possibility of site-selective optical excitation. Coherent pumping is considered to drive transitions between vacuum and entangled target states both in a time-dependent manner, and in a quantum bath engineering approach to create entanglement in the steady-state. We demonstrate a numerical scheme that allows to generalize the determination of excitation parameters to larger array sizes and different classes of en…
Scalable technologies to characterize the performance of quantum devices are crucial to creating large quantum networks and quantum processing units. Chief among the resources of quantum information processing is entanglement. Here we describe the full temporal and spatial characterization of polarization-entangled photons produced by Spontaneous Parametric Down Conversions using an intensified high-speed optical camera, Tpx3Cam. This novel technique allows for precise determination of Bell inequality parameters with minimal technical overhead, as well as novel characterization methods of the …
Trapped atomic ions are a versatile platform for studying interactions between spins and bosons by coupling the internal states of the ions to their motion. Measurement of complex motional states with multiple modes is challenging, because all motional state populations can only be measured indirectly through the spin state of ions. Here we present a general method to determine the Fock state distributions and to reconstruct the density matrix of an arbitrary multi-mode motional state. We experimentally verify the method using different entangled states of multiple radial modes in a 5-ion chai…

Quantum hypothesis testing has been greatly advanced for the binary discrimination of two states, or two channels. In this setting, we already know that quantum entanglement can be used to enhance the discrimination of two bosonic channels. Here, we remove the restriction of binary hypotheses and show that entangled photons can remarkably boost the discrimination of multiple bosonic channels. More precisely, we formulate a general problem of channel-position finding where the goal is to determine the position of a target channel among many background channels. We prove that, using entangled ph…
Analytic higher-order momentum correlation functions associated with the time-of-flight spectroscopy of three ultracold fermionic atoms singly-confined in a linear three-well optical trap are presented, corresponding to the W- and Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-type (GHZ) states that belong to characteristic classes of tripartite entanglement and represent the strong-interaction regime captured by a three-site Heisenberg Hamiltonian. The methodology introduced here contrasts with and goes beyond that based on the standard Wick's factorization scheme; it enables determination of both third-order a…
Given a non-maximally entangled state, an operationally significant question is to quantitatively assess as to what extent the state is away from the maximally entangled state, which is of importance in evaluating the efficacy of the state for its various uses as a resource. It is this question which is examined in this paper for two-qubit pure entangled states in terms of different entanglement measures like Negativity (N), Logarithmic Negativity (LN), and Entanglement of Formation (EOF). Although these entanglement measures are defined differently, to what extent they differ in quantitativel…
Shaping single-mode operation in high-power fibres requires a precise knowledge of the gain-medium optical properties. This requires accurate measurements of the refractive index differences ($Δ$n) between the core and the cladding of the fiber. We exploit a quantum optical method based on low-coherence Hong-Ou-Mandel interferometry to perform practical measurements of the refractive index difference using broadband energy-time entangled photons. The precision enhancement reached with this method is benchmarked with a classical method based on single photon interferometry. We show in classical…
Geometric Entanglement of Symmetric States and the Majorana Representation
We define an adaptive routing method for the management of quantum memory failures in the quantum Internet. In the quantum Internet, the entangled quantum states are stored in the local quantum memories of the quantum nodes. A quantum memory failure in a particular quantum node can destroy several entangled connections in the entangled network. A quantum memory failure event makes the immediate and efficient determination of shortest replacement paths an emerging issue in a quantum Internet scenario. The replacement paths omit those nodes that are affected by the quantum memory failure to prov…
In this letter, we propose a method of dark count correction in quantum state tomography of entangled photon pairs. The framework is based on a linear model of dark counts, which is imposed on the measurement formalism. The method is tested on empirical data derived from an experiment on polarization-entangled photons. We demonstrate that the numerical approach to dark count correction guarantees more reliable state reconstruction compared with standard estimation. Most importantly, however, the conceptually simple theoretical approach proves to be more efficient at entanglement quantification…
The analysis of entangled atomic ensembles and their application for interferometry beyond the standard quantum limit requires an accurate determination of the number of atoms. We present an accurate fluorescence detection technique for atoms that is fully integrated into an experimental apparatus for the production of many-particle entangled quantum states. Single-particle resolving fluorescence measurements for $1$ up to $30$ atoms are presented. According to our noise analysis, we extrapolate that the single-atom resolution extends to a limiting atom number of $390(20)$ atoms. We utilize th…
We study the entanglement between a certain qubit and the remaining system in the Schrödinger cat state prepared on the ibmq-melbourne quantum computer. The protocol, which we use for this purpose, is based on the determination of the mean value of spin corresponding to a certain qubit. We explore the dependence of the entanglement on a parameter of the Schrödinger cat state which consists of different numbers of qubits. In addition, we explore the entanglement of each qubit with the remaining system in the maximum entangled Schrödinger cat state.
