Towards a quantum Hall effect for atoms using electric fields

An atomic analogue of Landau quantization based on the Aharonov-Casher (AC) interaction is developed. The effect provides a first step towards an atomic quantum Hall system using electric fields, which may be realized in a Bose-Einstein condensate.

Quantum energy teleportation in a quantum Hall system

We propose an experimental method for a quantum protocol termed quantum energy teleportation (QET), which allows energy transportation to a remote location without physical carriers. Using a quantum Hall system as a realistic model, we discuss the physical significance of QET and estimate the order of energy gain using reasonable experimental parameters.

Quantum-Hall Quantum-Bits

Bilayer quantum Hall systems can form collective states in which electrons exhibit spontaneous interlayer phase coherence. We discuss the possibility of using bilayer quantum dot many-electron states with this property to create two-level systems that have potential advantages as quantum bits.

Geometry induced quantum Hall effect and Hall viscosity

For a particle confined to the two-dimensional helical surface embedded in four-dimensional (4D) Euclidean space, the effective Hamiltonian is deduced in the thin-layer quantization formalism. We find that the gauge structure of the effective dynamics is determined by torsion, which plays the role of U(1) gauge potential, and find that the topological structure of associated states is defined by orbital spin which originates from 4D space. Are quantum spin Hall edge modes more resilient to disorder, sample geometry and inelastic scattering than quantum Hall edge modes?

On the surface of 2D Topological insulators occur 1D quantum spin Hall(QSH) edge modes with Dirac like dispersion. Unlike quantum Hall(QH) edge modes which occur at high magnetic fields in 2DEGs, the occurrence of QSH edge modes is because of spin-orbit scattering in the bulk of the material. Noncommutative quantum Hall effect in graphene

We discuss the quantum Hall effect on a single-layer graphene in the framework of noncommutative (NC) phase space. We find it induces a shift in the Hall resistivity. Furthermore, comparison with experimental data reveals an upper bound on the magnitude of the momentum NC parameter $η$ in about $\sqrtη\leq 2.5 \, \mathrm{eV}/c$.

Quantum spin Hall effect on the porphyrin lattice

We study the physics of quantum spin Hall (QSH) effect and topological quantum phase transition on the porphyrin lattice. We show that in a special limit the pristine model on this lattice reduces to the usual topological insulator (TI) thin film model. By incorporating explicit time reversal symmetry (TRS) breaking interactions, we explore the topological properties of this model and show that it exhibits an ordinary insulator phase, a quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) phase, and a quantum spin Hall (QSH) phase.
