Fractionalization in spontaneous integer quantum Hall systems

It is widely believed that integer quantum Hall systems do not have fractional excitations. Here we show the converse to be true for a class of systems where integer quantum Hall effect emerges spontaneously due to the interplay of itinerant electrons and noncoplanar magnetic ordering. We show that magnetic $Z_2$ vortices in such systems, whose topological stability is guaranteed by the structure of the order parameter, indeed carry fractional charge.

Coulomb Oscillations in Antidots in the Integer and Fractional Quantum Hall Regimes

We report measurements of resistance oscillations in micron-scale antidots in both the integer and fractional quantum Hall regimes. In the integer regime, we conclude that oscillations are of the Coulomb type from the scaling of magnetic field period with the number of edges bound to the antidot. Based on both gate-voltage and field periods, we find at filling factor ν = 2 a tunneling charge of e and two charged edges. Generalizing this picture to the fractional regime, we find (again, based on field and gate-voltage periods) at ν = 2/3 a tunneling charge of (2/3)e and a single charged edge.

Integer effects in the entanglement and spin fluctuations of a quantum Hall system with Rashba interactions

We report distinct nonanalytic signatures in the spin-orbit entanglement of a 2D electron gas with Rashba interactions at integer values of the filling factor and at certain level crossings. The accompanying sharp changes in the bulk spin-orbit entanglement entropy can be probed by measuring the fluctuation in the transverse spin polarization of the electron gas.

Integer Quantum Hall Effect in Graphene

We study the quantum Hall effect in a monolayer graphene by using an approach based on thermodynamical properties. This can be done by considering a system of Dirac particles in an electromagnetic field and taking into account of the edges effect as a pseudo-potential varying continuously along the $x$ direction. At low temperature and in the weak electric field limit, we explicitly determine the thermodynamical potential. With this, we derive the particle numbers in terms of the quantized flux and therefore the Hall conductivity immediately follows.
